Construction on the floor above started at 7 am Wasn’t informed before booking It’s annoying when you need sleep, as the weather was hot and exhausting

A vacation nightmareOn a good note, the pool was spacious and relaxing like bathwater Could have had more umbrellas for shade, as NC is hotService n/a, but staff was very friendly People in the south are super friendlyBeds felt like soft clouds A lot of charging ports in the rooms Automatic air conditioningAmple parking lots Parking spaces are incredibly thin Not good for larger vehicles Perhaps a designated area for larger vehicles?Spacious refrigerator in room is a plus Can hold 2 gallon jugs of water and food for a few meals No microwave, but I eat raw, so it was greatAs sleep is important for alertness and functioning, the only disappointment was the constant knocking on the floor above my bedThanks for reading ❤️

Spent a couple of nights there with my wife while she attended a conference at the hotel Room was clean and neat, bedding was comfortable with plenty of pillows Room had small refrigerator, desk space plus a comfortable chair with foot stool

My wife had a $20 hamburger from the hotel restaurant but I didn’t try the food She said the meeting spaces were good with a variety of setups and meeting room sizes available Staff was friendly and helpful as needed

Zoya Yeprem

I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip The hotel is fine and provides all the basics you need for a business trip The hotel has a nice lobby with lots of space to sit comfortably while charging your devices, nice and spacious meeting rooms and a cozy bar to hang out after hours

Currently the breakfast is served at the cafe in the lobby and you can pick from menu items — so no continental buffet — whichI liked However the rooms could be much better for a 4-star hotel My room had cracked walls, dysfunctional power outlets and leaking bath tubFor those who like their morning runs or enjoy walking around, there is a 4-mile walking path/trail that you can access by exiting the hotel parking from Slater Rd and then crossing the street

For the hotel itself? Five star experience, no question about it From the valet, to the folks checking you in- you’ll never find a more pleasant staff than you do here Almost everything I asked for was met with “of course”

The only negative that I experienced was saying on multiple occasions when asked if I was celebrating anything special was that I wanted to make this stay truly special and celebratory because I was FINALLY doing something for myself after 13 years and 5 children, but I think being a mom and finally getting the chance to do something for myself is not necessarily a celebratory event I’m a bit sad that my very serious request to make this stay as special as possible was ignored, especially knowing the lengths the hotel has gone through for friends on just regular staysThe Heron- I’m completely upset and almost scared to go back here I had a 1030am reservation for brunch, my server approached me about 3 times in the 2 hours I was here Upon approaching the manager about feeling disregarded, she argued with me that she was sure that was not his intent (impact vs Intent should definitely be discussed) This was neither helpful nor a solution to the issue The worst part of it was the staff talking about me smoking as a direct insult to me bringing up the lack of service 1 I asked to sit outside to be able to smoke, 2 There is no signage or anything I could see that lets you know what part of the patio is ok to smoke on, and 3 I immediately moved as soon as I was made aware The only “good” interaction was the front desk employee, I believe Rachel was her name, who was the only one to ask how my service and meal was, who complemented my head wrap, and told me how wonderful my perfume was It’s almost painful to write this review, as a black woman if I point out flawed service I’m “angry” As a black person, I’m just looking for something for “free” Upon hearing my complaint the manager offered to “send something up to my room”, and after paying my bill, STILL tipping my server 20%, and the total amount of money I’ve spent there since the beginning of my stay it felt like a gross insult Will a $15 dessert sent up to my room change my dining experience? Will it change how hostile it feels knowing how I was referred to? Will it change arguing with me about intent? No

I had an interesting experience during my stay at the Umstead I went for a work trip celebration- I think we had a total of 10 rooms booked They did allow me to check-in early which was great

I was staying by myself and had a great corner room overlooking the pool with a large balcony I was getting settled in and had just taken a shower and an employee walked into my room without knocking I am not sure what the policy is, but being such a prestigious hotel, and employee should first check to see if anyone has booked the room and if they couldn’t do that, then at least knock first before entering without warningOf course I was startled and screamed because I wasn’t expecting anyone to be in my roomI called down to the front desk just to let them know what happened and to advise their staff to knock before entering a roomBesides that strange experience, the spa service was good, as was room service for breakfast and later that nightI am not sure if I would go out of my way to stay there again, but overall it is a nice hotel

Catherine Lowe

I had a amazing deep tissue massage with Kyle, I highly recommend him! The spa still limits guests to 1 hour for use of amenities after your service, which is a bit frustrating In addition, locals are limited to booking spa appointments as they are held for hotel guests only Hopefully in the future they will consider changing this policy as it is very hard to get an appointment

Overall the facility is super clean and spa service was outstanding as always!

Perfect? No But this staff is the best in the business Hot water and working shower fixtures would have made it perfect

But that is not on this staff, that’s on corporate This staff was amazing They took care of all my requests, through text checked on me and were the first to say hello when I went to the lobby I would definitely stay again and with the renovation the hotel might come up to the standards of your staff

Nice hotel Nothing stands out to make it great Breakfast buffet is likely the worst I’ve ever had at any hotel

This definitely needs to be addressed It was horribleLocation is great Rooms are clean Maintenance was lacking in the bathroom The toilet was the loudest I’ve ever heard Sounded like a small bomb exploding every time the toilet was flushed Quite disturbing

LeeAnna Hoit

Pros: convenient location, nice and updated rooms, beautiful viewsCons: only cable on tv, parking is a little annoying Small parking lot for hotel

If you’re not one of the lucky few you have to park a little far off in a general parking lotLove this place and will continue staying here for my business travel

This hotel is one of the cleanest and one with some of the friendliest staff we have ever experienced Our rooms were clean and fresh and the beds were very comfortable The view out our window was beautiful! We loved our stay here

The bathroom was exceptionally clean and had all the extras in case you may have forgotten something Outstanding place to stay!

Tara Richardson

I travel frequently for business and was very impressed with the cleanliness of my room Before unpacking, I always wipe down everything with Lysol Wipes There was not any dust/dirt discovered (a first)! Additionally, the view (rear of hotel) and color scheme provided a very peaceful experience

Breakfast was a plus and the staff, very friendly Thank you!

I enjoyed my stay here! The staff was kind & informative I was properly greeted and quickly checked in The staff recommended some superb dinner recommendations

I ended up getting shrimp tacos & blackened salmon with Caesar salad The breakfast feature was amazing, however the breakfast is not complimentary The food is quite delicious and worth it The hotel is convenient with access to onsite dining & a mini grocery pantry The decor was well decorated & inviting The rooms were adequate and allow for a comfortable rest The only downside of the stay was a few noticeable stains on the linens & curtains; also the room could benefit from being deodorized Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to others

Jennifer Royall

Definitely clean, which is my #1 concern these days in looking for hotels My whole bed seemed to shake when my neighbor let their room door slam several times overnight I also had a hard time getting my devices on the hotel WiFi until I went to the lobby

Overall a good stay, but you might consider these things when decided which hotel to stay at since there are so many in the area of similar price/quality

Steve Biskie

Arrived today 30 minutes after the start of checkin-and it was a mess There were people in front of me saying they had been in line for 30 minutes Apparently the hotel is sold out today, a bunch of guests checked out late, the cleaning crew was still working but not communicating which rooms were ready in real time, and the staff was visibly flustered

The room quality was very good, however, and I like that there is a small refrigerator There is also ample desk space and a comfy bed

The staff is extremely friendly, from the overnight front desk staff to the bartender Thank you so much for the great experience I’ve stayed at many Alofts, all over the US & this is by far THE BEST Aloft I’ve ever stayed at in my life, possibly the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at; they make you feel like family! Alexis is extremely sweet Maria loves mine & my wife’s dogs

Dwight is honestly my hero, we had the best conversation and I truly appreciate him for all that he does! Robin, the bartender is I’ve ever had an experience with, and I have been to a lot of bars! Edie is amazing! Thank you all for everything you do!

Jenny Wright

We had a large group of 47 high school students plus chaperones, visiting Raleigh for the first time for a choral convention The Aloft is within walking distance of many dining options and has a little convenience store with snacks, drinks, and breakfast options The hotel staff was more than accommodating during our stay, keeping in close contact with our group and anticipating our needs – everything from extra towels to an impromptu birthday party for a member of our group

I highly recommend this hotel for your group needs They’ll take care of you!

Madison Hardin

This hotel is absolutely excellent I stay here quite frequently because I have a lot of friends who live in the area Robin and Cy are super friendly individuals who make me feel like I’m part of the aloft family every single time I visit

They refer to me by name without having to remind them The rooms are wonderful for the price and clean If you frequently visit downtown raleigh this is the place to be Even if you’re just visiting for a single time, the staff will make you feel like you’ve visited 100x Can’t recommend this hotel enough

10/10!! My boyfriend and I had the best experience here this weekend Very clean and the bed was so comfortable! Parking was confusing but the location of the hotel is amazing Walking distance from good food, bars, shops, and a Sunday morning farmers market! The staff is LOVELY! Monia and Kelsie were so sweet and hospitable and need a raise!! This is our new favorite hotel!

Maja Peklic

Very nice hotel in the heart of Raleigh North hillsIf you are staying on a lower floor of the hotel looking towards the busy street with bars and restaurants, there is a tendency that it could be a bit noisy in the room – especially on the weekendsThe service is really friendly and outgoing! The breakfast is delicious

One weakness is that there are not many gluten free options for breakfast – so if you are on a gluten free diet there won’t be many carb options (no gluten free bread, oats, cereals) for you for breakfast Nevertheless, fruits, cheese, meat and eggs are still a delicious option

Richard Benzinger

The place seems to be trying hard to keep things cheap, while disguising this fact as modern elegance and simplicity The room has an Ikea-like open coat rack rather than a closet And the bench/shelf/desk thing across from the bed looks like Motel 6 with some accent lights added

In fairness: it’s clean; it’s convenient; the desk clerks are friendly enough But I couldn’t begin to imagine anybody thinking of this place fondly

My partner arrived before I did & received one key Once I arrived, I asked for a key and the lady at the front desk informed me that I had “e-checked-in” I had not

She asked me how I knew my room number if I had not “e-checked-in”, in which I proceeded to tell her that my partner had already checked-in (he told me the rm #), but he only received one key I had to ask for a key 3 times before she gave me one (after showing id) The lady did not inform me of breakfast, any amenities or the check-out timeAs a Diamond status member have have the ability to do late check-out, in which we wanted to do We called the front desk & was told we had until 1230 (typically we would have a much later time than this)I value hospitality and great customer service- unfortunately we did not receive it here

Needed a place to stay at the last minute and one with good reviews which this one had so I booked The night manager was accommodating and friendly but my room was not in the best shape There was a large sticky spot on the night stand due to what looked like a spilled drink and there was quite a bit of hair in the bathroom

Luckly I travel with wipe antibacterial wipes and cleaned the spill up because it was to late to have housekeeping come I called the next day about the hair and several hours later, the bathroom was cleaned The next day, housekeeping knocked on my door 2xs even while I had my do not disturb sign up Have no idea why, they just said sorry when I answered I never once was offered any kinda discount These rooms cost to much to have these issues Good luck Hopefully, you will have a better experience like the rest of the folks have had

We are so glad we stayed here on our trip to Raleigh! We both enjoy experiences vs generic hotels and The Store has that in spadesJohn was very welcoming, had an extensive knowledge of Raleigh restaurants and history, and put up graciously with my questions about architecture and the building All of the spaces are beautiful

The room we stayed in was small, but well thought out and many amenities and toiletries were provided that exceeded my expectations The location was pretty much “5 minutes from everything” except for a couple of wedding events that were *gasp* 10 minutes drive awayWe would love to come back and just enjoy the space and Raleigh when we don’t have an event to attend Thanks John!

Nicole Snyder

My partner Kristofer and I had a truly wonderful stay at the Store while in Raleigh for the Tobacco Road Marathon The accommodations are beautiful, functional, clean, and cozy The Store is a beautifully designed building and we really loved all of the thoughtful design touches- John is an architect and his passion shows

I really can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our weekend in Raleigh and that was honestly due to John’s spot-on recommendations We dined at several chef-owned restaurants all of which were fantastic We enjoyed craft beer, wine, and coffee at recommended locations as well Seriously, there wasn’t a single miss The Store is well located – we were able to walk almost everyplace we visitedJohn is a warm and welcoming host who clearly cares about his guests We really appreciate everything that he did to make our stay as comfortable as possible and we’ve been telling all of our friends and family to make their way to the Store in Raleigh Go!

Vanessa Alexander

Staying at The Store is a must for anyone wanting a true historical neighborhood, delightful and informative host, and ideal location to surrounding Raleigh interests! Like it’s namesake, John Reese provided every detail that you could think of – down to mini makeup wipes, mouth wash, snacks, and community recommendations The space is meticulously clean and bright The beautiful open transformation of the historical store is both unique and modern

We enjoyed our stay here Liked the modern design of the property, plenty of areas to relax and enjoy outdoors Pretty good rooms, though wear and tear shows and the property could be cleaner overall

Though the restrooms in the lobby were spotless We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant on property, though I personally enjoyed breakfast more The staff did let us know in advance that the menu was limited and they were short staffed at dinner, but it was still a good experience, no significant delays or bad food We had burgers and tacos and wings as appetizer at dinner, loved the wings and burger, tacos could be better At breakfast we had pancakes, French toast, and corned beef hash, all were very good And Staff was very friendly

The staff is friendly and helpfulThe ambiance is welcoming and relaxingConvenient location to NC State and Raleigh area!Close to public market -open 365 days a year🙌!Great trails for running/walking just outside by the lake!Delicious & healthy breakfast choices

This is one of my top favorite Marriott hotels to stay at! I would come back to Raleigh just to stay a few nights at this hotel I love that it’s in the university campus! It’s surrounded by trees and nature which is so rare to find in a hotel these days! The lobby, patio, deck and pool area are simply amazing! So inviting to just hang around! They even offer free recreational games to play on their lawn! There is an ice and water machine in each hallway! This was a huge perk for us since we take our refillable water bottles everywhere! The hallways smell amazing because they have a diffuser running in each hallway as well The rooms were fantastic! They weren’t your standard boring hotel decor

Each room has wolf decor including the pillows and blanketsThis hotel does cater to alumni and parents of current students but I absolutely loved my stay here and would stay again whenever I am in Raleigh

Our stay here was one of the best hotel stays I’ve had in a while! The staff; everyone from the front desk, to housekeeping, to facilities, were SO friendly and accommodating My husband had to work during our stay and the wifi was strong and there were plenty of little nooks to camp out in around the lobby when he wanted to leave the roomThe pool was HEAVEN for a toddler

Seriously, I would travel hundreds of miles for this pool It wore my kid out and I didn’t even have to get inEverything was clean and comfortable and the hotel smells amazing I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area!

The rooms are nice, spacious and clean, we stayed for two nights The hotel staff was friendly Michelle, the manager is extremely nice and accommodate me for a one night stay after we tried to check in but was told all the rooms were sold out

Not sure how that could happen when we had a reservation Nevertheless, we were given a free night so it was ok The stay itself was anything but peaceful Constant jumping and running above our room the first night, then on night two screaming kids, loud TVs and running on the second night I dealt with both incidents for hours until I finally reached out to the hotel staff On night two of the loudness, I reached out to the staff at close to 10pm The staff came upstairs directly to the room that was making the noise on night two, so I appreciated that Although while lessened, they just turned up the TV extremely loud watching a movie until after midnight I just tried to fall asleep and eventually did Needless to say, it wasn’t an enjoyable or peaceful trip I used to enjoy staying here pre-pandemic Not so much now They are constantly booked to capacity it seems and I understand why, it’s in close proximity to a lot of places and walkable But, I can’t recommend this hotel because of the noise factor alone Either the walls are extremely thin or this hotel attracts very rude people Either way, I won’t be back Two stars for the staff

Oh boy! What a place this is! My husband surprised me with a stay here for our anniversary! This hotel EXCEEDED my expectations! From the front desk staff (5/2/22- sorry I don’t remember names but there’s the date so they can be recognized if they worked that day), to the waitress Maya in the restaurant to the wonderful sweet housekeeper (5/3/22) that waited outside our room at checkout to give us more time! I mean it was amazing! I’m a Marriott girl but The Mayton is my new spot for sure The complimentary bikes for rent are a cute touch that we enjoyed using The rooms were clean and spacious! Room service the next morning was hot and speedy as well! I can’t say enough about this place! We can’t wait to return!

Such a gorgeous hotel! Everything here is just luxury!!! I took a small tour of the building and every moment was unforgettable! Every room is very fancy inside, so I think you will enjoy your stay! The rooms are a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth every penny! If you are looking to stay in Downtown Cary, this is the place to go to! I would 100% recommend this place!

Decent hotel, though not what I was expecting Online, this place exudes a boutique hotel vibe In person, it felt like we were at any given chain hotel

Our room had noticeable dust on the walls, which was random One of the towel hooks in the bathroom was also broken The room has a “noise masking” (white noise) feature, but the loudest setting was still surprisingly quiet We were disappointed by this, as the noise from the restaurant down below was considerable during the evening There are hardwoods throughout the place, which makes it a little noisier than other hotels I’ve stayed in Breakfast at the restaurant was good, though pricey Parking is a trick, though you likely know that going into it (parking in downtown Cary isn’t great in general) Overall, I’m not sure I would recommend this hotel to my friends or family It’s not a horrible place by any stretch, just not great

This hotel is very charming and in a beautiful location There are trails surrounding the hotel, and I love the covered bridge you drive under to enter The main lobby is cozy and welcoming

Additionally the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating I needed to lay my baby down for a nap and they let me have an unusually late check-out and didn’t make me feel guilty for asking My only drawback was our room wasn’t very well kept up and a little dirty (the bottom of the tub was brown) Other than that I really enjoyed our stay

It is even difficult where to start The room was like a cave So dark that we needed to have the lights on all the time

Old, bad maintained furniture Filthy, if you want it to be cleaned you had to call one day in advance Cleaning by the way was poor It was still dirty and sticky after cleaning Stinky room like if we were at La Quinta The toilet clogged and there was huge centipedes coming out from the sink The pillows where minimal, difficult to sleep The experience was so bad that I checked out one day in advance But Hilton charged the full five nights anyway

Very upscale place Rooms seem a little outdated but still very nice Place was clean as a top and for as busy as it was, very quiet and peaceful

Tucked away in a quiet location and the surrounding outdoor area was pleasant Pool/chill area outside was top notch Staff very freindly and helpful I will be coming back next time I visit the area
