Stayed here before and now we know not to stay again First time we were here owners were rude to our guests, we chalked it up to maybe them having a bad day, the next year we came, again our guests and us were treated poorly We are not a loud and obnoxious bunch, we are just looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy

It doesn’t take much effort to start a conversation with a hello or good morning We have many other options to choose from in lakes country and now we know better Thanks for ruining 2 vacations

Came to Bemidji for grandson’s high school graduation and enjoyed four nights in this lovely, well-maintained B & B Breakfasts were very good, and there is a small living area with kitchen for snacks, etc and convenient wash machines

Jill’s flexibility and hospitality were the best There is a great view of the lake, and we heard loons in the evening! This was wonderful for a former Minnesotan! It is easy to walk into town along the lake for other meals Dick was gone most of the time, but both he and Jill have good stories!

Spent two weeks here and had a wonderful experience! The staff were all friendly, hospitable, and very capable at their jobs The staff are really the highlight of this hotel and you can tell management is doing great work The hotel itself was clean, smelled fresh, and all the amenities worked as expected

The breakfast is good as far as continental style breakfasts go It’s in a scenic, quiet location (for now, seems to be a bunch of development going in) and easy to get to, with a view of the lake from one side of the hotel The rooms themselves are very nice with appropriate lighting, comfortable furniture (most importantly the bed!), and practical bathrooms There is a restaurant attached for convenience Highly recommend a stay here!

Paul Mazzeno

I worked for a week of out of the hotel while my son was in a local camp The staff helped me rearrange my reservation and went an extra step to make my long stay more comfortable The room was comfortable and the desk was plenty big enough for me to set up my laptop, dock, and a large monitor

The view of the lake from that side of the hotel is great and there is immediate access to the walking/bike path I walked about 125 miles along the path to the downtown each night for dinner (a few really good places to eat) There’s a small community beach a short walk away and there is a mini-golf being built about the same short distance The breakfast was nice, there is plenty of room in the lobby to hang out (even with a larger group), there’s a nice patio out back with plenty of seating, and the I used the hot tub in the pool area a couple times I didn’t try the gym, but they a little of everything you find in most basic hotel workout rooms

Jodi Stockeland

We were guests during college graduation week, & we would definitely stay here again! The front desk team were all very helpful, friendly, & pleasant Our rooms were clean & nice The view of the lake was beautiful

And, their breakfasts are amazing!!! So many options to choose fromThe Tavern, which is connected, was an added bonus if you wanted a cocktail or a bite to eatAll in all, a very nice place to stay!!!

We had another great experience with Kohl’s Resort! We did a family vacation with our adult kids and their families and we all had a fabulous time This resort is full of activities if you want to participate or it’s perfect to just hang out and relax Ashley and Brian, the owners, are very attentive to any needs and just super nice people to visit with

We are already booked for next year!

We didn’t want to leave Kohl’s Resort The hosts were gracious and wonderful!!! They were so accommodating & down-to-earth! After a 9 hour drive, it was so wonderful to be met with such kindness The cabin was SPOTLESS

The beds were so comfy and we could de-stress and enjoy time with our adult kids! I usually have a hard time sleeping and that was NOT the case at Kohl’s It holds a very special place in our hearts and we cannot wait to return God bless you as you take care of God’s Country in Northern MN!

BE WARNED! Owner is a money hungry joke We left the place clean as we moved in and charged us 150 dollars to clean Umm cleaning is apart of owning a rental property

Wants to charge to clean the laundry room when it was left exactly like it was before use Owner also comes in and out of YOUR property (THE ONE YOUR RENTING) without any warnings don’t ask don’t let you know ahead of time just walks in Very unprofessional and ILLEGAL! Place is great looks awesome but the owner tacking on fees and such automatically taking out of your deposit he sends 2 weeks later is a joke! ID AVOID I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN!

Ted Ernste

Great place to stay Newly renovated cabins and the owner is one of the nicest, most accommodating men I’ve ever had at a place He went above and beyond to make us comfortable and feel welcome

Plenty of stuff to do like paddle boards, paddle boats, a ping pong table, he even let us use his family’s bike I would recommend this place to anyone and I am definitely planning on going again

Just had lunch there and looked in the shop I was inquiring about a sweatshirt and as staff was willing to check to see if they had other sizes A coworker that was on the phone grabbed a piece of paper and wrote the word NO on it and handed it to the nice staff who was willing to look

It was an experience that left a bad feeling about the shop they haveThe food and drinks were amazing and I loved that they tended to my dog just as they did for us

Brad Cramer

I want to like this place, but I can’t Our experience at Ruttger’s was poor We came during a busy time, so I’m guessing that’s why it was so expensive, but >$1000 or three nights?! This stay wasn’t worth half that, and that’s not the biggest issue

We stayed in the Cedar Lodge When you first arrive you’ll notice how dated the room is (if you look at the website, notice the strategically angled photos) That’s acceptable, but then you’re hit with a smell of wet sulfur (rotten eggs) you know you’ve made a bad choice Upon exploration of the room, you’ll see the laundry list of issues beyond the dated decor and smell Our beds were made, but the room wasn’t clean Scraps of trash on the floor, dust and residue on surfaces, odd little flakes that looked like poppy seeds in the bed sheets, freezer in need of defrost, dents scrapes and holes in the walls and furniture, and a half broken futon as the couch The water also smelled awful I took a shower and my entire body itched afterwardsIt’s worth noting that I told staff, and the manager that handles housekeeping did her best to make it right But even after that, there was still scraps of trash in places and some surfaces still dusty/sticky/grimy and the room smelled bad the entire stay The only reprieve was to open the windows but two of the three days it was in the upper 80’sThe lake is fun, and the restaurant has good food We didn’t use the pool but it also looked very dated They have fun water toys kids can use But all the good here was overshadowed by our awful roomTLDR: Overpriced, dirty and smelly, not thoroughly cleaned, dated, poor quality of furniture Fun lake and good restaurant

David Scott

Nice remodeled main lodge and the front desk staff were great Also, nice waterfront area But, our cabin was disappointing, to say the least

Yes, it’s old (1915) and we signed up for “rustic”, but it’s moldy, dilapidated, and the electrical is downright scary Loose plugs, exposed wires and overloaded circuits all around the place I have stayed in rustic accomodations before and that usually means simple and charming This is just poorly maintained, damaged and downright dangerous I’d call it scam rustic Would have hoped they could treat their historic cabins with a bit more care and respect, especially for $500/night

I enjoyed myself staying here I loved how my room came with a microwave and mini fridge Very accommodating especially when I do lots of traveling and I pack and bring my own food

I absolutely loved going down for breakfast with the beautiful views of the lake which was frozen and I seen people out ice fishing Very intriguing! My room was also clean and the bed was comfortable

Missy Isles

We are currently checked in to DoubleTree and are absolutely loving our stay! They have a beautiful lobby with breathtaking views of the lake Our room was clean, spacious, and suited our needs for our three night stay It’s located in a very convenient location, just a short drive from downtown, shopping, and restaurants

Easy access to the Green Mill restaurant next door They have a lovely looking breakfast buffet, which we have not yet tried (but it smelled incredible when we walked by this morning) There is a nice-looking pool area that also has beautiful views of the lake Everyone we met has been very friendly and welcoming The next time we visit Bemidji, DoubleTree will be the hotel for us!

Morningstar is simply not fit for occupation Do not be fooled by the website and brochure The following is the true reality of the place:The cabin has:A rotting/disintegrating exterior and doors that do not lock properly nor close

Fans with grime and build up that we would not use or touch even if hot inside cabinExtremely uncomfortable/old/stained bed and mattress – akin to a bad pull out couch feel A couch that is old, worn and saggy and smells like an extreme case of body odorUnsafe bed for children (or anyone) with sharp metal ledges coming off bed frame(s)Vintage fridge that is rusting out and has gross build-up upon rust…all in a place where you store your foodA bathroom ventilation screen that is overwhelmed with years upon years of potential mold/mildew and rust buildupTap water that is to be questioned whether or not it has been treated/filtered based on appearance and taste and gastrointestinal upset we experiencedSloped cabin flooring and a kitchen table where items roll off of potentially due to a foundation that is visibly crackingLeaking faucet, broken pots and pansMorningstar’s location itself that is packed with mobile homes with chain-smoking inhabitants whose plumes of cigarette smoke came into our cabin and was overwhelming The resort’s website grounds map does not accurately depict closeness and sheer number of mobile homesThe main dock is uneven and sloping with many dangers Also, the dock slips are very exposed to any form of west wind and your boat can get beat up even with bumpers The dock is missing numerous deck boards with exposed rusty nails/screws There are fixed electrical cords that are submerged in water and are potentially “hot” right near where they have a dock ladder for people to use for jumping and swimming from The “boat landing” is nothing more than a slightly depressed sandy area near beach with loose rocks and big ruts There was no sign of concrete or a true rampThe fish cleaning house has screens completely ripped out and is absolutely infested with dangerous wasps, bees and fliesOverall, the grounds are very unkept and this is a site that is overrun with sand There was no sign of anyone caring for the property the days we were there In fact, we left early and would not stay there for free in future For similar rates, there are much nicer and safer places like Joe’s – which is on same lake with a protected harbor(s) and some allow dogsWe contacted Morningstar’s owners George and Cindy with concerns and were completely ignored Unsafe

Danielle Prestegard

This resort was VERY kid friendly!! They had a swing set, a great beach area and the lodge even had space for them to play without needing to be supervised The cabin was very clean and stocked with all the kitchen and bed linen necessities It also had cable and central air

The lake had great fishing and it was close to bigger lakes

Aaron W

Great customer service by all employees I came in contact with Everyone was friendly, attentive, and helpful The lobby area was cozy, warm, and convenient for getting some work done on my computer as there was plenty of space

The room was super clean – no issues The pool/hot tub area is open until 12 for adults, which I greatly appreciated I enjoy using the hot tub in the winter when I travel but seems like so many hotels close the hot tub so early and by the time I get back to the hotel after dinner and/or drinks, there is no opportunity to take advantage of it Also, the breakfast is available until 10 am, which is awesome, as I feel like most hotels stop serving breakfast too early in the morning The whole stay was smooth and seamless The only thing I would say is that I think the rooms are a bit overpriced but there could be various explanations as to why I’d stay again

Owen Dahl (ND FRMBOY)

This has to be the nicest hotel in the Wyndham chain that I have stayed at The whole facility was clean and well maintained The young man at the desk met us with a smile and made sure check in was quick and easy and we each got a fresh cookie

Although the king room was not real big it was roomy enough for the two of us The room and furnishings appear to be nearly new The bed was very comfortable and the HVAC worked as it should The bathroom was spotless and the shower provided plenty of hot water Breakfast was better than what I have been used because of covid There was plenty of fresh coffee, scrambled eggs and ham, along with a waffle maker There was a variety of fresh fruits, yogurt and cereal too All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful I didn’t get to the pool but I did see people enjoying it This hotel will be put into my Wyndham favorites list

Adam Kuznia

Started off great, Cassie greeted us at close to midnight after a long day and was very friendly She even let us hang out in the hot tub a couple of minutes past closing time after our late arrival The next day, the staff attitude took a rough turn

Most hotels I’ve stayed will allow guests a grace period or a little later checkout Not here, the lady is by the book and told us 11 is the latest because they are booked for tonight and filling up fast When we left, the parking lot was empty No new guests were here It’s sad when you blow $200 on an average room and a urine filled hot tub and the staff doesn’t have the courtesy to allow you a few extra minutes to get ready after a late arrival Would not recommend Will go back to the usual Hampton or Doubletree across town next time we’re in town
