Four stars because I have first world problems Obviously this place is beautiful I just think management is missing the small things that make it great Things like doors swinging the wrong way which makes it difficult to get luggage in and out

How about the fact that the sign at the pool says “poo” service? Where’s the missing L? Air conditioning is also weak The new buildings on the Kona side are absolutely a lower quality than the Kohala buildings Would I stay here again? Yes But come on Show me you actually care about your facility

Scott Moore

So far so good Like the fact that we don’t have to go back to the same spot year after year This was first time in big island

I would say this would not be good for kids Everything is on site and you take a shuttle around which was neat to all the shops This is definitely a different type of vacation compared to going to Honolulu The pace is a kotore slower and relaxed

Souad Christina

Absolutely in love with this place Peaceful, tranquil but close enough to everything and everywhere you’d want to explore We stayed in the Red Barn, which is HUGE and so private and self-contained with everything you need including its own parking, kitchen, terrace, and lounge

It’s like a very large and very beautiful studio apartment The rest of the property is simply stunning, with breathtaking views The breakfast is some of the best on the island (especially the banana pancakes!) and the staff are so kind and helpful Boutique luxury at its best Will definitely return

Frank Walter

My partner, and friends, love this Inn The setting is spectacular, set in the middle of a coffee farm, overlooking the ocean The service from the staff was great

We really enjoyed meeting them The rooms are beautiful and the public space is charming You could easily stay on the property the whole time and have a great trip We also enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and afternoon snacks We ordered dinner in one night and ate in the dining room Was a great experience Highly recommend!

Rebecca Yount

Such an incredible stay! The inn is more beautiful in person than in pictures, and I didn’t think that was possible Hosts are very aware of current safety precautions and uphold those to the greatest extent, but there is still a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere The beautiful breakfasts, amenities, concierge guidance, and daily afternoon baked treats could not have been better

You will be so glad you booked here!

The rooms were clean, spacious and current We did not have an ocean view but we didn’t pay for one! Highlights would be watching the dolphins, sitting by the pool, friendly staff, thank you Annie This is focused on serving the guest families, pool areas were clean and neat with plenty of towels and sunning chairs for relaxing

Things to be aware of: daily charge for parking, overly pricey food You need a rental car

Emily Murphy

This place may be perfect for some, but we hated it the moment we arrived Check in area was crowded, parking was a nightmare, an employee tried to sell us on a time share, and the tram took longer than walking Also we were not loving the Japanese decor everywhere- we spent a lot of $ to come to Hawaii and enjoy the beauty of this culture! We’re checking out early and going back to the Outrigger

The grounds were gorgeous The staff was lovely The amenities were excellent

The bed was perfect for one of us and a little hard for the other The view of our garden from our patio was as beautiful as anything on the entire island I don’t know what’s wrong with the people who gave this place one star I think they must take negativity with them everywhere they go

Ralph Roe

Tremendous stay from the minute we arrived until we completed check-out Staff was friendly and professional and seemed to care that we were being taken care of The facility is magnificent

With the ability to use the other Hilton facilities, it opens up another opportunity to see more The two bedroom we stayed in was absolutely perfect for our stay Clean and fresh All appliances worked well and the washer/dryer is a blessing when staying a week Not sure when I will visit this site again because there are so many places still on our list, but this is definitely worth another relaxing visit About 20-25 minutes north of the Kona airport, the transit is easy So much to see within a couple hours of the Kohala Suites 1 1/2 hours to Hilo Less than an hour to Waimea and about 25 hours from Volcano National Park This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken

Lindsey Dillon

The resort itself is beautiful, staff is friendly and accommodating BUT our room was infested with roaches Like not a few an entire freaking army of them Roaches came out of the knobs on the stove, an entire family was living in the coffee pot, the bathroom had large and small roaches scurrying over the walls

I’ve stayed in many Hawaiian resorts and never seen as many roaches in the rooms as I have here Their solution was putting a few sticky traps, which did nothing

Jen Burke

We enjoyed the educational displays about Hawaiian history and culture The little shops on the first floor were so convenient! We tried the coffee and the shave ice place Rooms were fine

I booked the standard view and our rooms overlooked the tennis court and parking lot The location was nice for walking around town The little beach right outside the hotel was a good calm spot to practice our snorkel skills

Mary Perez

Location is good and easily able to walk to places to eat The coffee shop and shaved ice spot are good! The pool could be better kept and a server checking to see if anyone needed anything rather then having to go to the bar to request a drink/food The food a the grill by the pool wasn’t anything special and the drinks weren’t that great

Service was okayBiggest complaint, room only gets cleaned every 3 days Even though on the website it says daily cleaning They did not say this at check in, we had to ask why are room hadn’t been cleaned yet and that’s when we found out

Brady Timme

Way over priced for a view of the asphalt roof an parking lot Rooms were recently renovated, however it was down incredibly cheap

The bathrooms are tiny The food pricing is astronomical for what is at best, a golden corral buffet $100 for 2 to have breakfast? Come on The “free” beach chairs are a scam Kona boys beach gear only has maybe 20 chairs So if you’re not first there, you’re not getting a chair But you’ll still be charged the resort fee The parking is terrible You pay $22 a day for them to oversell the lot Multiple times we had to leave an just drive for a bit in hopes a spot was open when we got back again First night found blood on the towels Called the desk No towels were ever brought Had to go down an grab them This is an extremely expensive hotel that felt like a cheaply done motel The history in the area is amazing but there are much better hotels in the area for less The little beach access isn’t even worth it as half our visit it was filled with boats doing a regatta so you could not safely swim as they were constantly launching boats on the beach Everything about this hotel is over booking and charging an hoping the consumers don’t actually try to use all amenities they’re being charged for

Nicely manicured property, but the rules are very strict No smoking within gated areas and no drone flying I wish the plaza had more dining options but the pandemic hit this place hard

Had to drive 15+ minutes to visit a more affordable store to stock up I recommend going to Costco and getting food for longer stays Otherwise go to Waikoloa village queens Market for food

ali pishghadamian

Beautiful, immaculate, peaceful resort with incredible lobby and interior design Every staff member remembers and greets you, often by name Restaurants have tasty food, but portions are small and prices are high

The restaurants also close early, and offsite eateries are miles away as the resort itself is in a rather remote location

Mike Parker

Was not a guest, just someone needing help when Hertz mistakenly sent my rental car to this resort instead of the main Waikoloa/Waimea pickup at the Fairmont Orchid Hertz was of absolutely no help on their mistake and basically said we were put of luck as cars at Mauna Lani are for their resort guests only There were no other cars available due to very high demand and low supply due to the pandemic

We called Mauna Lani just to see what was possible and received service far above and beyond anything we could have asked for The front desk brought the car up the main valet area, had the contract ready to go, gave us some water bottles, and was in all regards the model of hospitalityTo be perfectly honest, Mauna Lani is a bit beyond my normal travel cost allowance, but they have made me a fan and I will definitely give them a look on my next Big Island Adventure

The Bay Club is perfect! The suites are quite spacious There were 4 of us staying here and we never felt like we were tripping over each other The bedrooms are quite large

The living room and dining room areas were very comfortable The balconies provide ample space to comfortably hang out and enjoy the views of the mountainWe’ve stayed in three Hilton resorts on the island, and this is by far the best and roomiest I would definitely recommend stating here I can assure you, I will be a return guest

Erik Olson

We stayed here for 10 days during our Hawaii trip and loved it Rooms are spacious with a good view We enjoyed a turkey outside one day and all the feral cats

Three pools were available, and our 7 year old couldn’t stay out of the water It was nice to be able to grill at night alsoThis was our first time at a resort, so we have no comparison, but it was a great experience

Paul McClaren

The rooms haven’t been upgraded in a really long time The washing machine sounds like it is on its last legs There are next to no places to charge devices

The TVs are dumb so you can’t get Netflix or Prime They don’t heat the pools However, the grounds are beautiful and the lanai is really nice This is a great place for adults that just want to relax and enjoy The golf course is also really nice if you golf I don’t

Michelle Hayes

Nice, unexpected surprise, but the check-in process was a complete disaster Short-staffed front desk made the wait incredibly long even at off hours The staff member who finally waited on us, however, was extremely efficient

I only booked one night to be close to the airport for an early morning flight but I wish it had been a longer stay The bar area and restaurant is right on the water but not all seats have an ocean view The pool area looked great The room was updated and the bed was very comfortable I’d definitely return if I’m ever back on the island

H G

Nice older property Renovated rooms are better than average Comfortable King bed

Daily housekeeping, which is a rarity these days, was a welcome perk and kept things nice and clean The luau was fun Beautiful location on the shore, but no beach, just lava rocks Downtown has it’s seedy areas and problems If you’re coming to the big island, this is a solid choice for a decent price, but I’d recommend you skip the big island altogether Outside of the volcano, there is little draw and the smaller islands are nicer

Stephany Vargas

Great place over all! Always kept the room clean and refilled Very nice pool, but absolutely loved the ocean pool! We also loved the refillable water bottle station The sliding doors were very loud, it was a good way to wake each other up 😂 The view was definitely the best

Everything was conveniently at walking distance, like beaches, shops, and restaurants All good places They offer a lot! (Took these epic pics at the hotel)

A truly amazing resort with the most attentive and kind staff This property is one of the most stunning resorts I have been too Offering 4 different pools, 5 different restaurants, and oceanfront access you have everything you need here

Our hotel room was spacious, beautifully designed, clean, and best of all… one of the most comfy beds I’ve ever slept in! Cannot recommend this establishment more

Vivienne Doyle

My husband and I just stayed here for our honeymoon and it was everything we wanted and more! Our room was excellent and the resort itself is amazing Our room had complimentary champagne and goodies and there was a card congratulating us Everything you need/want is on the resort from activities to dining

The staff was beyond compare Literally every single person we came into contact with was helpful and extremely polite and somehow all the servers and the like remembered us by name despite seeing hundreds of people a day We also recommend getting their detoxifying mud & volcanic clay application, it was our favorite!

CD

My wife and I booked for five nights I’m a hot sleeper, and so without a cooling mattress pad, I cannot sleep well unless the bedroom is at or below 63 degrees F I was told by hotel staff that their A/C system in their rooms could provide this

But after the first night it was clear the “coolest” their system could reach was 69 degrees Even with the ceiling fan on and covered with only a sheet, I literally woke up dripping sweat It was miserableThe front desk suggested, of course, that I talk to engineering And, of course, the engineer told me – in the most disdainful manner that I have ever been spoken to by anyone – that they would have to change the systems of the entire resort in order to change mine, implying that was clearly out of the questionThe bed was also extremely soft, so much so that my back went out I asked them twice the 2nd day if they could provide a firmer mattress, which they twice refused After desperately asking a third time, they agreed but the replacement was so hard it was actually painful to sleep on, since I’m a side sleeperI also dropped off two silk shirts the morning after I arrived for their “24 hour” dry cleaning service After 34+ hours later had to call to ask why the shirts had not been returned When they were finally returned, my black shirt had visible white spots on it (soap?), some of which I rinsed out in the sink and hand-dried with the hair dryer When I got tired of that I called housekeeping and asked why my shirts were returned with spots on them I was told, dismissively, that there were no spots on them So, apparently, both my wife and I were hallucinatingAfter two nights I asked to check out early, in order to end this torture session I was told that I would have to pay a penalty fee!Keep in mind that we were paying several thousand dollars a night for this place Service this bad is simply not worth that price In fact it’s not worth any priceWe won’t be returning

This resort is excellent, from the top down From the moment you arrive, the staff and management makes sure you have the entire Hawaiian experience We were greeted with leis and Hawaiian drinks at valet, walked to the front desk and seamlessly checked in

William Apa, one of the resort managers that happened to be at the front desk, also took the time to walk us to our room and showed us the various facilities Our ocean front room was exceptional The room is very clean and everything is brand new and renovated It didn’t lack a single thing The bathroom supplies are perfect, and the outdoor patio area is amazing The pool and staff are also incredible The pools are beautiful, well kept and clean They have great outdoor games like corn hole, and plenty of equipment to enjoy the day (snorkels, footballs, etc) We didn’t bring our 3 young kids, but it’s certainly a kid-friendly hotel Their food is also far-above average and exceptional Often times resorts lack in their food quality, but not this resort The Canoe House is one of the best restaurants in the world – and we’ve visited numerous throughout the world The room service and other restaurants and bars are also fantastic Overall, this place can’t get much better!

Jessica Rodriguez

I stayed at the Mauna Lani Resort for a week The staff is incredibly polite, housekeeping was wonderful, and food was delicious The sunrise canoe experience was amazing, highly recommend! The guys at the surf shack were very informative and well knowledgeable in the Hawaiian culture and history

We had an unfortunate event happen to us where there was some flooding that occurred in our room due to heavy rain the day before we left Some of our personal items got ruined and all of our newly bought items as well Matt – with management, and his team, was quick to rectify the situation and went above and beyond our expectations Although the incident was upsetting, Matt made sure to take care of us so the rest of our stay was enjoyable To be quite honest, the flooding incident doesn’t even cross our minds due to the fact that the issue was resolved in its entirety It was as if it never happened Great all around experience and exceptional customer service!!! If we ever stay again on the big island, we will be coming here

Marcin Wilczak

What a great experience, the entire facility looks upgraded even though they might be working on some aspects The view from the oceanfront rooms was perfect, they were really able to take 70’s architecture and make it modern The open, shaded space of the hotel is just extraordinary, all the private spaces to sit at, all the couches, hammocks spread around the space with perfect mix of palms and other plants just creates a paradise feel

The outdoor gym was a plus Almost entirety of the hotel is outdoors, an open space under a huge lanai, which doesn’t require having a mask Restaurant breakfast was outdoors and it was delicious The oceanfront cabanas were underutilized but are amazing, for $375 you can get the cabanas afternoon which come with beer, lotions, two drinks from alcohol menu and two appetizers It’s $450 the entire day

Wonderful resort with so much to do! Wish we had more time to spend here Will definitely return Snorkeling in the lagoon was great; even with poor visibility there was still plenty of fish and turtles to see, and you can swim under the bridge out to the open ocean or access the beach directly if you prefer, or swim in one of several pools and enjoy the water slides

There’s a train and boats to get you around the property, but don’t miss the covered, curated art walk that runs the entire length, and the meandering outdoor walking paths offer plenty to discover as well Views are amazing, pools are beautiful, the dolphins are great, the scenery is breathtaking Food from the different restaurants on property was delicious but unsurprisingly overpriced Front desk staff extremely helpful Took off 1 star because there were several areas needing repairs and upkeep, the conflicts in decor and aesthetic were odd, and apparently some names of buildings had changed but not all the signs were updated with the new names, so I overheard some confusion from other guests about what was where Everything else was so amazing that it’s easy to overlook the issues Looking forward to our next visit

Jeanette Oliveira

The resort is nice if you want to be confined to just that area It has a rail system that is not worth the wait to get where you need to go Old and slow

The rooms were so old and dated Carpets are just gross! Sandy and dirty The $60000 a night price was not worth the price The food that we had was so overpriced for something inedible They trap you in this resort, making it so far to your car you are discouraged to leave, so you are forced to pay extremely high prices to eat The grounds are well cared for and the lagoon area and swimming pool are great for family’s with children As someone who lives here, you would be better off buying a day pass to use the facilities and stay somewhere else Making it easier to enjoy local eateries and beaches It will be a much better experience and better on your wallet

Lynn Albrecht

The rooms were clean, pretty much standard, the birds in the atrium will wake you up every morning The food at the lagoon grill was great The luau I’d have to give it an average

The location of this resort is fantastic It’s right on the ocean It’s beautiful Overall I’d have to give it a 10 The people are great, friendly, helpful The food and items There are overpriced If you leave the resort and go into town, you’ll get food much cheaper and your items much cheaper Again overall I would go back

We stayed at a condo here for two weeks and it was amazing The condo was the perfect size Three bedrooms to accommodate everyone in our family comfortably

The grounds are very well groomed and maintained The Beach Club (pool & restaurant) are excellent The pool is good for all ages, especially young children The views are awesome too with spectacular sunsets each night The restaurant serves phenomenal food as well We’ll definitely look to come back to the resort sometime again

Ariel Jones

Came here with a big group There was about 20 of us 15 adults and 5 kids We had a blast! The rooms were amazing, staff was super friendly, and you could walk to Queen’s and Kings Village

(15 miles one way) whenever we were on the property and not exploring the island we were usually hanging by the pool/bar My husband, brother, and dad golfed 3 times on the course Their favorite of the 3 were beach and Kings Only thing I would change is to have a beach we could visit on site Other than that it’s a perfect spot to vacation at

Channing McCabe

We came here to visit some friends and had a really delicious lunch The service was great and the food was absolutely incredible We were expecting some pretty subpar burgers and food but the burgers were great

The tacos had fresh fish The fried green beans were absolutely incredible The shrimp was seasoned so perfectly with a little kick but not too spicy and the salads were fresh and decadent If you’re in this area, I would highly recommend stopping by for a meal and the views were beyond amazing!

Wonderful property Our party stayed in 2 units, a 1 bed/15 bath, and a 2 bed/2

5 bath Both were wonderful, clean and comfortable The pool was great and we hardly had anyone there at the same time The beach club was perfect with lounge chairs and trees for shade The restaurant was expensive but great for convenience Will definitely stay again

2 stars for the view and kitchen The place is very difficult to find in the dark Hyatt advertises as a RESORT w pool, restaurant, lots of RESORT stuff

DO NOT BE FOOLED!! THERE IS NONE OF THIS UNLESS YOU DRIVE ELSEWHERE!!The 2 bedroom unit we rented had a nice kitchen and a gorgeous balcony That was IT The bathrooms were beyond OLD and terrible Im talking right out of EARLY 1970’s The master had cabinets that were so worn I refused to touch them The shower was small, like a 32″ stall, no shelf, no place for anything and OLD OLD OLD Just GROSS SAME with second bath Now don’t get me started on second bedroom Two of the CRAPPIEST twin beds ever TWINS!! I sat on the balcony at 11pm, SOBBING IT WAS THAT BAD We had no choice but to spend that one night Then we checked out I AM STILL WAITING FOR A CREDIT and will be disputing it with American Express NOT AS ADVERTISED!! OMG RUN FROM THIS PLACE The second bath seemed even older, if possible The living area reminded me of the 70’s ski chalets It was nice but not up to date Kitchen had been redone and was nice, but I couldn’t shower in the kitchenI was in touch immediately with the staff of the resort and let them know I was disgusted The following day as soon as we had reservations confirmed with the WESTIN RESORT, I immediately told her we were checking out She told me where to leave the keys in the unit, which I did We were NOT there 24 hoursand it appears they are charging me for the entire week NOT RIGHT WHEN the unit was NOT as advertised The shampoo containers had been used and were only partially full i mean all around NO JUST NOHawaii has a water conservation program and this place had ZERO conservation measures in placeDO NOT STAY HERE! THERE ARE ZERO AMENITIES accessible easilyMUST DRIVE EVERYWHERE And the place is SO OLD MY GRANDPARENTS could have a reminiscing party NO

Hidden gem of Big island resort We were blown away It’s not a hotel

It’s a residence but it even comes with full size fridge and laundry and dryer, kitchen utensils and laundry detergent!!! Hotel has some advantages like room services but if you want to have a care-free relaxing vacation (quality supermarket is near by as well) this place really is for you We will definitely come back
