Overall, it was pretty good We had a small issue with our sheets, and the lovely lady at the front desk, Tammy, came to our room personally and delivered new sheets, and offered to help us change them out Then as we were checking out the next morning, she had left a note to give us a gift card for the trouble

The hotel was fine Tammy, was FANTASTIC!

Stayed here a few times moving back and forth from Memphis to WI Peru is a little off the highway (~10 min), but totally worth itRooms are very clean and the beds are really comfortable

AC works great (always a necessity for me), and the corner store in the lobby has some great snacks Also, only a few steps away from Jalapeños: one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever eaten at!

2 people with us got food poisoning from the scrambled eggsEdit we’ve since contacted the hotel and asked to be refunded got spoken to rudely from the staff there Contacted customer service where we were told it would be easy to be refunded for that waited a week to hear back from them for them to say they contacted the hotel and can’t refund us for what? This is trash service needed another hotel this weekend DEFINITELY will never stay here again

This hotel is older but relatively well maintained The rooms are clean and comfortable and reasonably priced This is a great place to stay for visitors to Starved Rock who do not want to pay Lodge prices

The staff were all so nice and helpful! It is right across the street from a McDonald’s, less than a block from Cindy’s on 39, and across another street is a Taco Bell, and next door is a gas station so if you need anything, you’ve got options The hotel is pet friendly so you get to see some doggos, which always adds to a place in my opinion The only less than ideal things about it are: A) if you’re on the first floor, you can hear just about every footfall from the second floor But if you stay on the second floor that doesn’t seem to be a problem B) the rooms that used to be smoking rooms have been very well cleaned and restored but if you’re very sensitive to the smell of cigarettes you may still be able to detect it We didn’t find that it was bothersome but I know there are folks out there that might not be as comfortable with it and should probably request a room that was non smoking

The staff an manager are super nice There was a snow storm we got there bit early an they still let us into the room Witch was so nice as was not safe to drive around

they keep lobby mopped up from the snow room was super clean An pool looked spotless Nice place to stay an great team working there THANK YOU FOR TREATING US LIKE FAMILY

Jamie Johnson

A/C worked great Front desk staff seemed nice No elevator and we had 4 suitcases

But that is not the worst by far! Trashes were left on each floor by housekeeping ? ALL afternoon and night Just trashy Literally Some doors were missing the classic door markers so staff must have written on paper with pencil the room numbers 😂 The whole hotel smelled like cheese dip and tortillas The town is a ghost town Will never be coming back

This place is lovely – perfect location walking distance from bars and restaurants We stayed in the Serengeti cottage and it was really cool layout and design It felt like a quaint hotel with a lot of character rather than a bed an breakfast; such a cool set up! Everything was clean and really well maintained

Great amenities and service Breakfast was delivered to our room by the nicest gentleman that owns the antique store 2 doors down and it was delicious Truly a great place to stay!

Rather than leave a standard review, I’d like to relay a little story about our recent stay at Lander’s HouseI had gotten ill and my girlfriend and I needed to leave town fairly quickly Unfortunately, she forgot to grab her medications in our haste

It wasn’t until we got home in Michigan that we realized what we missed Peter went out of his way to find the medicine and a way to ship them to us on a weekendPeter takes care of his guests (even after their stay!) and is very easy to get a hold of if there are any questions

Hands down, a magical place to stay! Love the history and very authentic lodge feel Staff is very friendly! Dinner was very tasty, service by Emily was attentive and friendly Great drink menu

We stayed in a cabin and loved being able to make a fire at night Only one word of caution, walls are shared, so you can hear others too well, be respectful of your neighbors Outstanding state park with so many natural beauties to explore! ❤️

I absolutely and utterly adore this place Kudos for their docents/volunteers who lead hikes and other educational programs More kudos for their well-maintained walking paths

From eagle watching in winter to river cruise in summer, this place is an absolute gem But I don’t live close enough!! (haha)But really, a day spent here, walking and perhaps grab lunch at their pub, or a night (or weekend) here at the lodge, spells perfectionThankful for outdoor spaces such as this!!

My wife and I stayed in the Chippewa cabin two nights but we both wished we’d had time to stay for at least three or four The cabins are very clean and comfortable, the area is secluded, and the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful; they really do want to make sure you enjoy your stay Terisa, the owner, is incredibly organized, stays in touch and is on top of everything

What a great getaway spot!

Nancey Trandel

Exactly as promised this place is relaxing! If you need to check in with WiFi you are able to do so in the office I was offered an easy chair and got to share the space with two wonderful, friendly dogs We suggested adding some mirrors in the bedrooms and replacing the grill which had seen better days

It worked, though! We spent each evening around the fire pit and it was awesome! Despite really high temperatures the setting in the trees and a lovely breeze kept us very comfortable It was fun to see young families enjoying their stays, too, but the cabins are spaced far enough apart that we felt we had ample privacy We would recommend Kishauwau Cabins to others and we might just go back!

Moon Deb

Peaceful, quiet, clean and comfortable

exactly the type of environment to de-stress, relax and get away & disconnect Most cabins are generously spaced out on site for privacy Cabins are equipped with most everything you need so you don’t have to haul many supplies Our first visit was a winter retreat; we will definitely be back to enjoy it in the warmer months

Just tried to book a trip to our favorite Illinois travel destination, but it appears that the Brightwood inn may have sold and is not currently available for stays 🙁 we’ve had a great time visiting over the last 7 years and if they’re truly closed, we wanted to thank Kevin and Sharon for all their hospitality over the years and wish them the best!!

Victoria Bazilevych

My partner and I discovered Brightwood Inn accidentally and we couldn’t have been happier It’s an idyllic getaway with everything you need Our room was spacious with jacuzzi and cozy sitting area outside

The property is located in the vicinity of Matthiessen & Starved Rock State Parks It is such a beautiful place that is taken care of by thoughtful and friendly people We had amazing time talking to Sharon and Kevin and we wish them to thrive and let this property be discovered by a countless number of people in the future Thank you for you

Bugrahan Cigdemoglu

Shanon and Kevin are exceptional hosts Such a great place to return to and relax after a beautiful hike at the Starved Rock Kind, thoughtful, honest, pet-friendly hosts

Typically this place is a great place to stay However, they are doing a complete remodel on the 2nd floor, with customers on the 1st and 3rd floor Construction of the hotel continued into the very late evening (After 9pm) for two nights in a row

Paying $200 a night, one should be able to have piece and quiet well after working hours AFter complaining multiple times to the front desk clerk, that attitude was more like “oh well” Any staff member should not allow any construction work after normal business hours and should have the respect of their customers in mind Bad Business!!

Daniel Kaufman

A great experience that started with a very friendly front desk attendantThe room was not new but clean and the bed was comfortable Plenty of hot water and “in-shower” shampoo/conditioner/shower gel

The breakfast bar was plentiful and fresh Another friendly attendant in the morning The only negative to note is there was an issue with the curtains not working properly But when mentioned to the front desk it was written down and I’m quite sure it was addressedWould definitely stay again! Thanks Holiday Inn Express!!!!!
