Beautiful hotel, from the moment you step out of your car, to walking into the lobby where you get a slight smell of fresh flowers and wonderful decor, to stepping out the back door to view the grounds overlooking the Pacific Ocean It is all an experience The front desk staff was wonderful and very helpful

Before our arrival the concierge’s department made us a wonderful Italian dinner reservation The little car they have to drive guests around the town is so fun and cute Our children loved Scoops, the little ice cream parlor at the family pool For those looking to be kid free, they also have a beautiful and quite adult only pool Walking around the grounds at night on your way to make S’mores (provided by the front desk) you can smell the fragrant, Angel’s trumpets which bloom at night The bed linens were so soft and comfortable, so much so, I plan to buy a set for our house It is all around a beautiful resort

Leyla Dam Jenkins

Super kid friendly, kids love the pool, the beach, the scoop shop, and they give you little gifts for them during your stay They especially love the train that comes through! Incredible staff, so friendly…perfect location, great cocktails and food! Last stay they had a really fun live Bruno Mars cover band at the bar with dancing Awesome for a family vacation

Mariella Tzoncheva

Giving them two stars for location of the hotel and ambiance One star for the staff at the patio, great service The food is mediocre at best, the drinks were just so so

After lunch we went to the pool and tried the gelato, tasted worse than any grocery store ice cream One flavor was better than the other but I tried to talk to the lady behind the counter about the quality she stuck a spoon with ice cream in her mouth and said “it tastes fine to me”! I normally wouldn’t say anything because the atmosphere was great however paying that kind of money I tend to expect the best quality food,

This classy and cozy little gem is by far the very best No issue with extra pillows or towels what so ever Clean and crisp at every turn and corner

The staff is courteous and attentive to all your needs and wants The Crocodile restaurant is excellent and makes it easy to be completely satisfied without ever leaving the groundsI would love to stay here again and am happy I am here right now

Mark Green

Sometimes it’s hard to find a good hotel where you can just relax, lying on a sun lounger by the pool, drinking a good Mojito, especially on a hot day Lemon Tree inn managed to surprise me, it’s an amazing place for the price, especially when comparing alternatives in Santa Barbara 20 minutes walk and you are already in the city center with a huge number of cool establishments, the restaurant in the hotel itself is also worth noting, it is really good, it reminds of the vintage atmosphere of the 90s, but what delicious food, it is even tastier with a 10% discount for guests

From controversial points, it is difficult to contact the staff, but given the busy days, it is quite difficult for them to answer everyone, but they try However, if you want to have a good time, this hotel is for you

Patty Hlinka

Front desk staff was amazing, personable and professional They worked very hard to honor my specific requests for where I wanted my room located That was so appreciated

From desk staff, waiters, gardeners, housekeeping and maintenance you cannot ask for better service and friendliness I have been staying at Lemon Tree when I come to SB from northern CA for over 25 years, it is like coming home There are great restaraunts all around and a new Starbucks about 1 1/2 blocks up from LemonTree on State that is awesome You can’t go wrong with Daily Grind and their heavenly scones Can’t wait for next trip to SB and Lemon Tree

Let’s start with the good: 1) the location and grounds are beautiful 2) excellent valet and customer serviceNow to the bad

we stayed this past weekend for a wedding We were so excited because of the location in SB and the photos We had to move rooms 3 times The first room the AC didn’t work and they promptly moved us to another room The second room smelled terribly of mold and was small and not at all what we were promised We tried to stay since we didn’t want to move again We tried to go to sleep hoping the smell of mold and mildew but ultimately had to move again The third room was great They gave us a discount but overall pretty disappointed in having to move multiple times and that didn’t seem out of the ordinary for this requests from the guestsOverall, the location and hotel employees were great but unfortunately didn’t match the amount of money we paid to stay

Giorgio V

Location is great for this hotel for restaurants and the pier The staff is very friendly The bath rooms looked funky and updated

There is no elevator for certain rooms The air conditioning is very loud so I suggest if it’s a cool night open the windows The two pools are great and every night they have fire pits all over to sit down and relax The rooms were clean, the bed was okay but not amazing

Robert George

Nice option right across from the beach and really close to the pier The room was smallish for four but was fine for two nights The pool was well used and clean

The staff was very friendly and answered a number of questions about eating locations The valet parking worked perfectly The fire pits are placed throughout the property so there are plenty of options for cozy, evening relaxing

Location and employees were great! The hotel was nice Rooms were pretty small as well as bathrooms I was happy there was a mini fridge to keep our drinks cool

Cons: no microwave, small room, small bed (cozy queen = full), small bathroom, small TV Overall we really liked our stay We stayed 1 night for our wedding We were able to get early check in and help with our bags Employees were helpful, friendly and attentive It’s valet parking for $25/ day It was convenient as parking in this area is difficult Walking distance to Starbucks, restaurants, cafes and shops! Definitely would stay again

Patrick Choe

Location is great Right at the heart of downtown SB, a walking distance away from Amtrak stationRooms were okay, TV sometimes lagged or showed statics

Service was okay, but room service was bad I ordered steak breakfast, but there wasn’t any forks, knifes or spoons Had to dig up disposable fork from trashcan I got elsewhere to eatAnd the menu had (prices may vary) warning, but actually costed 50% more than the listed price That isn’t simple variation; it’s nearly a scam Vending machine of any kind seems to be out of orderOverall, great location, but eat your meal elsewhere Get your snacks and drinks elsewhere I imagine any convenience store would serve you better

Jeremy Rice

Magical elevator takes you to cozy, clean and quiet rooms with comfortable beds, all expected facilities, and quality fixtures Our corner room looked onto Cota and State streets through the leafy shade of jacaranda trees Service from valet to check-in to housekeeping was welcoming, friendly and responsive to all our requests

A charming and convenient hotel, in keeping with Santa Barbara’s classy, small town atmosphere

We stayed here one night and were very satisfied The location is close to everything we wanted to be near The Funk Zone, waterfront, and downtown are all easy walking distance

The rooms are small, as others mentioned, but we’ll laid out and comfortable We enjoyed the king room with a patio Luis, the general manager, and his staff were friendly and helpful Others have mentioned that noise was an issue here since its near train station and bars and restaurants We did not hear any noise at all Definitely recommend this hotel

Alistair Bane

I liked the decor of this hotel It is very modern and attractive The bed was extremely comfortable

I have seen some people complain about the size of the roomsin their reviews to be fair, if you enjoy practicing elaborate ballroom dance routines in your hotel rooms while vacationing, it may be too small for you If you plan on sleeping, watching TV, and taking a shower, it’s all good There are nice sitting spots in the common areas as well There is ample drawer and hanger space for clothing, which is niceThere is an excellent restaurant attached It’s an easy walk to the beach and pier, as well as lots of shopping and restaurantsThe staff was very helpful and friendly I would definitely book again in the future!

H Janda

Stayed in SB for 2 nights with my wife in April 2022 This hotel was quaint and perfect for us Great location, convenient valet parking next door, very friendly staff, clean and quaint rooms

The Mexican restaurant next door was fantastic, plus if you don’t want to leave your room, they can deliver you food / beverages!Special shout out to the general manager, Luis, as he was very helpful and professional We were thankful / grateful to Luis for resolving a minor issue we had with our checkout bill He took care of us very well We will definitely be staying here again, the next time we are in SB I would recommend this hotel to anyone, you will not be disappointed

This hotel is rundown and has not been kept up The walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything in the rooms around you Rooms are small with old scratched/ dated furniture and dirty carpets

For this price point I would expect a lot more- I’ve stayed all over Santa Barbara for years and have had much nicer rooms with better service for much less money Disappointing- would not recommend

UPDATE 2022: we returned with friends in May of 2022 and found the restaurant as good as ever Because the weather is a bit fickle we weren’t sure if we wanted to sit outside or inside We started outside at the front edge of the patio in a corner and found it was too cold for the ladies

So we moved to a table closer to the covered patio But despite them bringing first two blankets and then two more it was still too cold It appeared they had too few heaters and one table had three while we had none Well we understood it would be difficult to ask a table to give up one of their heaters my wife at least found it annoying So we considered moving into the enclosed dining room but it was empty and it felt like we were out of the swing of things So the staff very kindly seated us on the covered patio with some overhead heaters that was just right I must say for tolerating our request to move THREE times the staff was very gracious each time And the food was delicious The diver scallops were excellentORIGINAL REVIEW:One of the top Santa Barbara restaurants, particularly because of the view Unfortunately the patio was closed because of a couple drops of rain and we were forced into the back room That wasn’t much fun But the food was delicious and the service was very very attentive The whole roasted chicken for two was remarkably well cooked and very tasty The ice cream desserts from Rori’s was outstanding and the bread was a wonderful surprise The charcoal apricot bread tasted amazing It doesn’t sound good but try it you’ll love it

Bryn Freedman

My friend and I decided to have a girls get away and we could not have been happier with our choice of the El Encanto Not only were the food, drinks and wine excellent, but the quality of the service was remarkableAlfredo Silva is special, genuine and could not have made our stay better

He went out of his way to take care of us helping at every turn He made the stay delightful -memorable- raising the level of our enjoymentTen fold

Really appealing updated motel calling itself a hotel The design is quite nice, but they’re aren’t done just yet Currently being renovated, so note that it’s under construction

Restaurant looked really nice, but it was closed, as it usually is on Monday and Tuesdays sadlyTried to get an espresso as we were checking out Wednesday morning, but they closed 5 mins before at 10:30Nice but missed the markWish o could do 2 and a half stars

Kevin Tate

This is a nice little hotel with competitive prices, good service, free parking and is very dog friendly The grounds were well kept, the pool was large and heated, and there was a small area where dogs could relieve themselves The room was comfortable enough but was beginning to show its age

The bed did not have a box spring so it was a bit firm, and the down pillows needed to be doubled-up to provide adequate support Shower pressure was good My only complaint was that the happy hour menu items were a bit pricey for the quantity Plan on ordering two of each item! The ambience in their outdoor dining patio was really nice

Christine Lauer

I’m giving one star not because I feel that this hotel is necessarily a one star hotel in general quality, but I paid over 550$ a night to stay here for memorial day weekend with my family and they market this hotel as a classy boutique hotel The biggest problem we had was that on Sunday night, the hotel (on a relatively small property) without any warning hosted a sorority formal, and was PACKED with college kids running around being mildly loud and disruptive to a property with kids and families in bed They played music for hours past when they said they would, loud enough to feel bass thumping while laying in bed

The teenager at the front desk kept telling she thought it would turn off soon! At which point we asked a refund for our night It is kind of cute, but it is a motel that got a kind of lackluster makeover, its lobby is very cute, and I will say the restaurant is good, but the place runs like a motel! They advertise housekeeping which we couldn’t seem to get them to provide, everyone who worked there seemed 19 years old and lacked experience in service industry The rooms are very small and don’t include many amenities, and our shower drain was clogged when we arrived, so the first one of us to take a shower was standing in 4 inches of shower water by the end of their shower, and the next person in line had to stand in the last person’s shower water left over Overall the nice things about this place were so far overshadowed by the absurd price you pay for a motel about 15-20 minutes outside of SB The advertising of the place is a little deceptive, it is basically a motel with lipstick on Don’t be fooled 😐

LOVE THIS PLACE!! Just stayed at Simpson House for my 2nd time Absolutely perfect! The service is unparalleled, the grounds are beautiful, and just love the location! We were greeted from the moment we pulled-up to the property, and the service did not end there! I was leaving early morning for a bike ride, and it would have been hours before the breakfast opened-up No problem! Frank was amazing! He got me a coffee maker for my room, and set with some snacks too

TOTALLY AWESOME SERVICE!Love this place!!!!

We stayed in October 2021 and have been attempting to deal with managers about several items that each of house lost from our luggage The items were taken out of our bags We had been told at one point that an appropriate credit would go to our credit card but that did not happen

I would not recommend staying at the Simpson House if you want to leave with all that you came with!

This is a nice hotel I went here and was satisfied with my experience I booked this hotel online and checked into it

This hotel has the doors of their rooms on the outside, so you have to walk around the hotel to get to your room However, the hotel’s parking lot stretches around the hotel, so you can park right in front of your room The room I stayed in had two beds and a bathroom with a pretty large shower, but much to my surprise, the room also had a kitchen and dining table with four chairs, which was pretty nice The interior of the room was pretty dated, but other than that it was nice This hotel has a restaurant as well with some pretty good food I gave this hotel five stars because it has nice, big rooms and a restaurant as well

Bobbi Karpinski

Outstanding service by Gabriel who not only checked in all 8 of us on our Gal Pal trip from San Diego April 10-14, 2022, he calculated what each of us should pay individually, which was a complicated procedure Later that evening, he helped us find a missing credit card At all times he was very calm, professional and listened very well

He has excellent listening skills and is very personable He was our hero!

Kelsey

Hotel is nice, but housekeeping and front desk are hopeless Do not expect any sort of housekeeping or maintenance They state their lack of housekeeping is due to COVID measures, meanwhile none of their employees were wearing masks, so it’s quite clear that this is a cost-saving excuse

However, they say they will come by to do housekeeping and give you new towels if you request itthis is a pretty big stretch of the truthDuring our stay, the toilet wouldn’t flush We called the front desk and asked them to fix it while we were out for the day They said they would Nothing happened We then called again and someone finally fixed it The maintenance person very strangely didn’t seem to have a key to our room, which I found very oddThe next day, we asked for towels while we were out Again nothing happened Our pile of towels was left in the room and we were granted no clean towels We called again Their solution to the problem was to leave a bag of towels for us on our doorknob for us to set up AND they gave us the wrong amount of towelsIt seems like the staff categorically don’t have the ability to access rooms, which is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard of for a hotel I wouldn’t stay here again

This was the most overpriced room I have booked in my 50+ years of travel The Palihouse receptionist was empathetic enough to issue a $3927 credit against the $718

73 total charge for the night, about double the cost the room should have been billed The tiny room was decoratively painted, which is the only other positive attribute I can site There was no formal clothes closet, so we left our bags packed The mini one-person dressing area was separated from the toilet by a pocket-door and had but a single small wash basin Palihouse, Santa Barbara, is strikingly over-priced and not advisable for the claustrophobic guest

Olivier LA

Charming hotel with good vibes Dynamic and super friendly staff Our room was spacious and nicely furnished, with a fireplace, deep soak tub and shower, and a private enclosed patio

Cool appliances too: Marshall speaker, Smeg fridge, Nespresso machine, etc The bed wasn’t good though The pool was kind of sad, relatively small, and neither very warm nor very clean The restaurant in the premises was average Dog friendly hotel (with one time cleaning fee) Free bicycles to borrow and visit the city In summary, great potential but finishing touches are lacking

Ethan Chumley

Cute hotel, generously sized rooms, convenient location in the Presidio neighborhood The decor is really well done, everything about our stay was nice, friendly staff, bed was comfy, and the room was quiet My only complaint is that the food at the hotel cafe was a bit lacking in both quality and quantity (good cocktails though), it’s walkable to other restaurants so it was easy to eat elsewhere

Would definitely stay here again!

Second time staying here! Pretty decent place and very well located! Close to all things! The rooms are nice, the outside common seating is a good place to have a beer (you gotta bring one) before you hit the streets Parking is available Coffee and light breakfast are available as well

Free Water bottles throughout the day are an added plus The Mexican courtyard style makes the hotel feel very cozy and welcome! Staff is attentive and friendly Price can be a bit high sometimes!

An enjoyable place to stay when visiting Santa Barbara It’s a beautiful property Our bed was very comfortable, and the view of the park across the street was decent

The staff we met were nice The parking is also good This is a prime location for someone who wishes to be a bit away from the noise and crowds of tourists But, not so far that you can’t walk to most everything

My mom and I both loved staying here! Everything about it was great It was very quiet, located in a convenient area, and parking was super easy! I loved the architecture and little lounge areas The staff were all very friendly and everything was SO clean

I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Santa Barbara! ☺️

Awesome Stay! Warren and his team associates are terrific What a hotel – and amazing restaurant as well! Had the best experience from the moment I walked in, roof top fire pit and sun setting what a view almost seemed like a movie scene with The rooms are beautiful and comfortable

Thank you to everyone who made this experience so memorable Truly above and beyond service I can’t wait to return

I’m not sure this is a 5 star hotel as stated Yes, its location is prime and has great views We booked this hotel for a quiet relaxing stay

But, starting off, we waited for our room to be ready Guest reception (the Hispanic lady?) was not at all friendly, almost rude Said our room was not ready and to wait and they would let us know when ready This was at 2pm Okay?!? After a whole day of travel, all we wanted to do was unwind, drop off the luggage and grab a bite to eat 3 hours later, still waiting, had to go and check in to see if the room was ready No one bothered to call us to let us know Thanks for that Got to the room, decent Nothing more then a Hilton or Marriott double Queen Hotel itself is choppy- meaning several different buildings Gym in one building, room in another The second night, the room next to us was having a party, very loud Called hotel staff to inform them of noise complaint, and nothing Party still goes on for a few hours until we had enough and had to leave our room No housekeeping Everything you need, you have to call and request, ie: extra towels, shampoo, even ice There’s not an ice machine! It’s a nice location, but with the experience we had, and the $1000 a night room, one would expect a lot more!!!!!!

Total waste of money Lovely room and decoration but the customer service is awful We checked in we were just given our room key and asked ‘do you have any questions’ we were quite surprised and didn’t know what to ask

There was no explanation of any of the amenities, where breakfast could be bought or anything At the end of the stay we paid a $35 a day resort fee- but have no idea what this was for? We had no tea/coffee supplied or anythingThe website is very misleading and the hotel is split over 3 buildings which means we had to cross a busy street to access the rooftop pool in another building Not ideal when in your swimsuit At the pool there is nowhere to buy snacks or a drink (or better, supplied) Pretty standard stuff for a nice hotel? We are British and used to a high level of service but this hotel did not live up This hotel cost the same per night to stay in the Shangri La in the Shard in London where the staff can not do enough for you and you feel a million dollarsSo disappointed by the hotel CalifornianUpdate- was promised to be updated on an ongoing request (via email) but am still waiting for a response 3 weeks later?? Have sent reminders twice which have been ignored Another example of fantastic customer service

Where do I begin? I can understand what everyone has said about not being very spacious but to be honest, what is made with the space given outshines that! Between the fireplace, very clean room, lovely decor, I felt very comfortable I did not want to leave and breakfast was delicious! From the beginning one of the staff members Alejandra was very friendly and accommodating compared to any other place I have stayed at Although a tight fit for parking, staff was able to find a space for our ridiculously big truck haha! The location of The Hideaway is very convenient and within area of restaurants and nearby the beach

I would stay here again and recommend to any friend or family member!

Nice boutique hotel I have to admit initial impression was not good as I found the room to be kind of small, but it is very nicely decorated, and more importantly, it was really comfortable Bed was great, AC and fridge extremely silent, and the shower was also great and very relaxing

A pity the breakfast is just grab and go (while the biscuits and bread were excellent, I found it a bit scarse) The location is not great but you have a nice walk to the beach and restaurants (10min) or better, you can drive to Arroyo Burro (5 min) which is a better beach with some waves and a great restaurant just in front of the beach In summary, a nice little hotel that I would recommend more for couples than families

This place is nice The beds are comfortable but slightly high The rooms were clean which is obviously a major plus

The rooftop area was my favorite part The pool is actually heated Bobby the front desk gentleman and both valet guys working on Sunday/Monday were very attentive I requested late checkout and they were very understanding of the situation and approved it Definitely staying here again Walking distance from pretty much anything you might need like restaurants

I stayed here after getting married at the courthouse It was beautiful! We rented the presidential suite which was amazing! We rented about 10 rooms and also the dining hall The restaurant worked with me to hand pick my menus and they even labeled the menus with our names

We got a little loud playing music and dancing so the staff made sure to close the slider doors instead of making us stopWhat a lovely hotel And they’re pet friendly! At least they were when I stayed here We will be back soon because it’s a great place walking distance to great shopping Recommend

Oscar Diosdado Murillo

I booked two rooms here for a birthday getaway Everyone in my party was pleased with the room product The property is beautiful and centrally located to a lot such as shopping, dining, etc

I hope Hampton could do more customer service training for this location I checked in on June 2 in the evening around 9:20pm and that was the only one front desk staff worked professionally as friendly and helpful The breakfast team was also good

But breakfast was not so good I liked the hotel offered the complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby anytimeThe front desk staff on June 5 was rude and unfriendly when I checked out to request a paper receipt I stayed 3 nights and it was noisy in the room You can hear the sounds from the upstairs and children’s laughs from the hallway The sofa in the room had the stain and the slide door of the shower room cannot be closed completely The Sunday price was over 300 bucks It is not worth of it I lived in Hampton Inn in Union City, CA right after this stay, and the one was totally different experience from Santa Barbara

Miss Cedar

I had an overall good experience living out of this hotel for one month Nice gym, more than one treadmill and plenty of weights for multiple people to work out Hotel was busy when I stayed so it was difficult finding close parking and the rooms have thin walls – I could hear guy snoring next door

I loved having laundry rooms on each floor – very convenient Walking distance to multiple dining options and coffee shops

Spencer Brod

My experience at the Hampton Inn was not good When I got to the hotel, I was expecting it to be serviceable, and be average That was not the case

The lady at the front was very slow with requests, and took a while to get them done The rooms were bad They didn’t supply enough towels in the bathroom, and the beds were terrible My neck has been killing me for a day due to it This should serve as a wake up call for the hotel

We really enjoyed our stay here, the pool area and jacuzzi were great with plenty of chairs and loungers to relax in The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we neededWe hadn’t planned on using the grab and go breakfast but after our first day that was all we had for breakfast

There was a good range and the cakes in the fridge were really nice! Good coffee too and the kids loved the range of cereal and fresh milk in the fridgeThomas on front desk was great, breakfast and the coffee was ready nice and early, great when you’ve arrived from a completely different time zone!

The staff at this hotel deserve 10 stars I brought my son to school and we stayed two nights The staff make you feel welcomed and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need

The room was impeccable and the grounds were very well taken care of You can tell the staff at this hotel take great pride in where they work The bed was super comfortable and breakfast was good Coffee, oatmeal and other snacks Not to mention you can grab some waters for the day I highly recommend this hotel

Rosemarie Melkowits

I almost cancelled my reservation after reading some not so nice reviews but am sooooo glad I didn’t Is it older, yes, dated, yes as some reviews said but I can tell you the rooms were very clean the beds were extremely comfortable and the courtyard was just beautiful The pool and hot tub were perfect temperature

It was only 60 degrees during our visit and the kids were in the pool that’s how warm it was Breakfast was a grab and go type, yogurt, granola bars, wrapped banana bread and lemon cake, oatmeal, cold cereals, fruit also breakfast sandwiches that you could take back to your room to heat up The lobby coffee was probably one of the best I’ve had Joel at the desk was such a great help I can’t say enough nice things about him He somehow managed to place my daughters room close enough to ours so we could help with the kids, which made our trip even more enjoyable Victoria was also helpful All in all we had a great experience and I would highly recommend to anyone

We stayed here in their ocean view suite It had such a nice room/patio! We enjoyed that we got complimentary glasses of wine with our stay Room service wasn’t going since it wasn’t the weekend, but we ate outside at the restaurant and the food and service was good

We enjoyed how they have games throughout the grounds (chess, checkers, croquet), how close it is to the beach and parks, and how the buildings are split up Great hotel and wonderful service by everyone!

I had a meeting with some VIPS We also had to discuss “Top Secret” details concerning a project

So I decided to arrange the meeting in my suite I had stayed at this hotel some years back when it was owned by the late actor and hotel owner Fess Parker He guest starred in the television 📺 series called “Daniel Boone” This property is rather largeso you may want to have a golf cart ride you to your buildingencase your not in the main lobby area The hotel has made some up gradesgone are cookiesthey use to give They were so delicious 😋 🍪😂 I included a few pictures Unfortunately I couldn’t include pictures of the lunch and equipment because these VIPS would not want to be included in an online review what I can say is my view of the ⛱️ beach was superb There is a poolSelf parkingThe bed 🛏️ was rather shorter but really comfy I really loved the 🚿 shower The buildingsyou must use a key card as a safety measure There is a park close by and an area off property where you can exercise In the end even though it’s no longer the Fess Parker It’s still a lovely place to spend a weekend, vacation or have a business lunch on property

Catherine Berry

We stayed here three nights for an anniversary getaway, and it was wonderful! The property is beautiful, a set of Mission-style buildings facing the ocean across a wide expanse of grass and palm trees Our room was very comfortable, and the accessibility features for my disabled partner were top notch However, the very best thing about our stay was the staff

From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, often anticipating our needs before we even asked I will definitely stay here again the next time I need some pampered relaxation time
