The inn has great bones Great location Friendly staff

And a nice old building that embodied the feel of San Clemente well The rooms, however, need some work The shower was barely safe to stand in when the water was running, making getting cleaned up unnecessarily difficult And though the breakfast room is a good idea, it needs more breakfast options The fruit, yogurt, pastries, waffles & microwavable breakfast sandwiches are a good start, but just the addition of cereal options and milk for either cereal or the coffee would go a long way The dry dairy substitute barely makes coffee palatable if you’re used to anything else, & milk or the little creamers aren’t much more workAlso, though they supposedly gave WIFI it was very unreliable & did not seem to be a secure network even though the front desk offered a password for it–a password that either wasn’t needed or didn’t work when it was Also some sort of low-enery nightlight in the bathroom would make the room much safer at night for considerate people who don’t want to turn on the light & wake others up

We stayed 5 nights in early February Clean, friendly staff, a very good value in the north end of San Clemente Nice heated pool and spa

Good basic breakfast (coffee, tea, OJ, yogurt, avocado toast, home made waffles, granola bars, fruit) Easy walk to the ocean & beach trailhead Good food close by at The Schwack (Mexican), Super Bowl Express (take away) & the Riders Club Cafe (burgers) Ten minute walk up to Del Mar with many good restaurants and pubs

Miss Valerie

I used to come to this place and always loved it IT IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT and the receptionist was so rude and unaccomadating as I had problem walking with my sciatica She refused to help with the luggage or have someone coming to help me

the location is great, the rooms are outdated The lady with ginger hair at the breakfast place as always been nice even in the past But a bunch of the new management staff are unhelpful and mean

This is our favorite place to stay in San Clemente The staff is wonderful and friendly We checked in after a crazy two days of travel and it felt like coming home

The hotel is clean The managers are super helpful! Breakfast is always good! I would recommend this hotel, pool and all to anyone looking for a clean, friendly and convenient place to stay! Thanks STAFF for making our fifth trip as awesome as the first! We will be back!

Princess Butterfly Daisy

Best Hotel In San Clemente! It’s quiet and clean and it has the most wonderful ocean breeze The shower / Bathroom is very spa like and the towels always smell so good The breakfast is delicious and the staff is amazing

Especially Guazy she’s always professional and polite and happy to answer any of you’re questions We will definitely be back soon Don’t forget to check out the pool! It’s a must

Stayed here last weekend for a couple of days with my husband The hotel is in an excellent location–close to downtown and conveniently located next to the freeway It only took 5-7 min to drive to downtown/the pier

A big plus is they offer complimentary breakfast The room itself was clean overall They had a lot of bench space to put your luggage, hang clothes etc, which I really appreciated The bed was very comfortable! My biggest complaint was the noise from the hallway You can hear everything going on outside your door So that really got annoying, since I am a light sleeper Also a minor complaint, was that our card key had some trouble with staying active We came back to the hotel from a wedding around 1:30am and it was annoying getting to our room and not being able to get in Thankfully there was someone at the front office that was able to reactivate the card Overall, If you’re staying just a couple days, this is a good hotel that meets your needs

Spacious and comfortable beach themed designed rooms just minutes from the beach and the center of town They offer indoor parking (mostly), surf boards and are located directly across from a great brunch spot and popular donut / coffee restaurant The upper floors have a seating area that provides ocean views

You are close to the freeway but I think the price reflects that making this a great option for San Clemente

Kathy Condon

Going with a friend to explore San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, so searched the internetIt was only rated 25 stars

I had read reviews and there were so many good ones So I made reservationsGrateful parking Then went into the room remodeled and very cleanLocationdistant view of the ocean, but location provided easy access for you didn’t worry about losing your parking spaceWe would go back again

Christine Quito

Surfbreak is newly renovated and looks cute + is an easy drive down to the downtown San Clemente area You have to look over the freeway to see the ocean, but it’s not a far trip to the pierOur room floors were uneven, the shower handle came off multiple times, and the water pressure in the sink is awful

There’s no breakfast available + there was no drinking water provided Whoever designed the rooms also thought it was a good idea to have a sliding barn door for the bathroom that leaves a footlong gap instead of one that seals smells and sounds in The parking is tight and there’s not a lot of it It’s right off the freeway so pretty loud (but the AC will drown out the traffic noise) For the price you’d think you were paying for a boutique hotel, but it’s really bare bones as far as amenitiesBasically if you’re expecting a motel, head to Surfbreak If you want to lounge at the hotel you book and sit around there, I’d look for someplace else

My car was towed!!! It cost me $56500 to get my car out of the impound lot That was not my big frustration

My first frustration originated out of NO ONE being able to tell me why I was not contacted I registered late in one of the 7 ADA rooms I did not leave the hotel (Seven quick phone calls, asking the night crew)My second frustration originated from not finding anyone to drive me to the impound lot Not one taxi responded My husband asked a friend of his to take me the next dayMy third frustration originated from having no car and no food Did I mention I was diabetic? I mentioned this to the hotel Assistant Manager I was not even offered a protein bar—-nothing Did I mention the restaurant and bar were closed? Not only was I frustrated, I now had a headacheWould I stay here again? NOSonesta wants their guests to feel good staying at one of their properties Do I feel good? NOSonesta wants their team members to “communicate honestly” Did anyone communicate with meNO!!!Sonesta wants to be “synonymous with unrivaled hospitality” Huh????? What did you say??? Did I experience thisThis gets a HELL NO

This hotel is nice for the value Their renovation is nice ! I like how they redid the whole place with blue and ocean vibes The wall surfing photo is awesome

The colors and marble tiles in the bathroom is also great! Nice showers and shower head The lobby had a lot of amenities and was great for long time stayers too The only thing is they didn’t clean the pillows and sheets and towels well The whole room is very nice and clean but hopefully they can focus on these! The pillows don’t smell fresh at all and the blankets make me itchy

Katelyn Moxley

Overall place was very nice and clean All staff members were very friendly! The recent remodeling/renovations made the place feel clean and new Location is great right next to 73 and 55 freeways and really close to all the shops in costa mesa

10 min drive to the beach, 10 min drive to Fashion Island Shower renovation was nice as well with a waterfall shower head from the ceiling

Our little slice of heaven so nobody take this review to heart Most reservations are about a year in advance unless you only need a single night or two maybe here and there We’ll be coming back here for many years to come

It’s quiet, very serene, impeccable views, and having your own full kitchen is really nice also Working distance to many restaurants and Dana Point is only a brief 15 minute drive away in the morning for whale watching tours Go to Captain Dave’s website and check them out Really great people

A throwback motel which we can’t get enough of! This place has it all to celebrate our wedding anniveraries

year after yeareven our 50th! That’s how Socal cool it is Well maintainedoverlooking the San Clemente pier, beach, coastline and train stopplus a kitchen to prep our own breakfasts (we eat lunch and dinner at nearby restaurants) Of course, as constant readers we love the porches with chairs and a table for my rum and cokes and box of Goobers!! But don’t go to this place, I want to keep it for our own special hideaway

My wife and I spent two nights in one of the beach view rooms and it was very nice and comfortable The a/c unit probably knocked out any outside noises so no complaints there We met the owner who was running the office and he could not have been more accommodating

I needed a couple bandages for a scraped foot and he gave me several Super nice guy The location is a bit of a walk from downtown but the trolley stop is not far away or the walk is pretty nice too The beach is a down a short path to a public street then some stairs down to the ocean Beach chairs and a couple boogie boards are available free to guests, a nice surprise For the price this is really a nice option and if I were to come back to Laguna this would be the first place I would check for an available room Enjoyed our stayThanks

J. Levy

really great little place The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were nice white linens

Nice towels and awesome shower wish we could have stayed a little bit longer so we could have enjoyed the beach walk but had to be in overnight and go def recommend if you need a centrally located place in Laguna Beach had fridge and microwave

Antelmo Lara

Stayed for a quick 1 day trip with the family and I have to say unbeatable price you get absolutely everything with this place, the peace the view and the spacious room that is renovated Anyone looking to stay anywhere else look no further this place is definitely a little gem PS don’t go based on how the place looks from the outside I almost looked away while booking because of it and now I know it would’ve been a great mistake

We loved staying at Nomads over the weekend We had the Boat Room, which was perfect for just my husband and I The themed rooms are so fun, bright, and colorful

The little added touches in the rooms were unexpected and appreciated The ease of check in and information sent to us regularly was super helpful And to be able to go to the restaurant upstairs was such a treat after a day at the beach Oh, and the bed was terrific too!Thank you for a great stay! Thanks

Ceci LaPeti

We loved staying at Nomads Location is perfect, staff is friendly, room was comfyTheir checking process was great

The Nomads canteen has great foodI would suggest adding a night lamp to the bed sides, so you don’t need to turn all the lights on in the middle of the nightThe only reasons I downgraded my review was because of the noise and because there was no internal latch mechanism to lock the doorThe noise is not terrible, but you can definitely hear the restaurant above the rooms They do a great job providing soft noise makers and ear plugs to combat itWe will definitely come back

Monique Vancini

I love this hotel, it is themed and super clean quiet and cozy I only live 1 1/2 hours away and I still come stay here My children love it and me and my husband also come stay here alone too! Perfect for family and singles

It presents a fancy place when you 1’st walk in It’s an older hotel, room needed minor fixes, we just did without Bathroom door would not lock, and sliding door track was held down with tape and came up with use

The beds are good come with 4 pillows and comfortable Nice cold fridge, but no microwave It was fine for our needs, and they accept pets at $50 a night

Susan Ranahan

About 80 women were there for a celebratory luncheon The service was outstanding and all did an excellent job attending to so many with so few The food was served hot and fresh, and the servings were not skimpy

Taste and presentation were great! There was a lot going on and timing was important The microphones worked, the table set up was lovely and it was a very enjoyable time

Brian C

Unfortunately, didn’t even get the opportunity to stay here Had a family emergency and needed a room for the night For some reason the website was allowing us to book any room, so when I called to book the room, I was quoted significantly higher than their own site

When I asked why, she said we needed to book on the site to get that price, even though I explained that the site wasn’t working Again she said we needed to book on the site and to have a nice dayclick Hopefully they will get their site working so others won’t run into the same experience

Very clean and mostly updated They are in the renovation process, so part of the room was updated but the kitchen and bath was not, which didn’t bother me because it was still very clean and functional, and the dated parts are soon to be complete The staff was friendly and attentive

The location is terrific A quick walk across the street and over the train track via foot bridge to the ocean They do an excellent job of communicating via text to check on their guests and offer social gatherings like Margarita Monday’s and Wine Wednesday’s to create a sense of community We had friends camping at Doheny Beach just up the road It was a quick 7-10 minute walk on the beach to the campsites I’ve already recommended Surfside to a local friend looking for accommodations for her visiting family I would stay here again!

Leigh Ann Downie

In having lived in the San Clemente area for 18+ years and now relocating, finding a place to stay when I come back for work purposes has been disappointing – until this last week Capistrano Surfside Inn was a breath of fresh air My room had recently been renovated and had a beautiful ocean view

It was clean and well equipped with everything one could need The staff was attentive and very communicative in taking care of every detail I have already booked my next trip and look forward to using the BBQ on the balcony while enjoying the beautiful sunsets Thank you!

Linda Jensen

Being beachfront meant absolutely nothing here Our room overlooked the garbage bins from the Mexican restaurant next door And the same restaurant had huge floodlights that shone directly into the bedroom until late in the night keeping the room nice and light in the night 🤮🤮🤮)

We got locked out of our room when the lock on the door malfunctioned, and my partner got caught in the elevator when the door wouldn’t open to let her out We had to make reservations to use the tiny hot tub even if it was empty, but no reservations allowed for the pool, which was occupied by screaming kids at all hours The girls at the front desk were very nice and they were the only saving grace for this place $100 per night would have been too much

Desiree Garcia

We stayed in a suite with a King size bed and whirlpool hot tub The tub was amazing and well worth the upgrade The room was clean and freshly remodeled, more modern than cozy, the bed could use a couple more pillows, and because I really liked the citrus scented soap and face wash wished there was more in the room along with a bubble bath option for the hot tub

The hotel is directly across the street from the ocean and you could walk there after complementary waffles and yummy coffee along with other breakfast options The service here is awesome, friendly and professional I’m coming back as soon as possible

Sandyy Dii

I’ll start by stating that Phil and Xandria were both so very welcoming and their hospitality outshines the sun rays on the water We stayed here for 3 days and from the views to the beautiful large rooms, were all above our expectations The rooms were clean and well kept up

Both Phil and another employee personally came to our room to make sure we did not need anything and when we did they were right on it Customer service this superior is hard to come by these days we truly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back

Dwayne Favors

Yes, this is an updated older hotel Yes, the shower isn’t as hot as you probably have at home I read reviews of every hotel in Dana Point before booking for our trip, and they all have similar good and bad

This one seemed to have the best good reviews, and I’m glad The owners are amazing, gracious hosts We got a room with a beach view, so there was no one above us, and the view was great Breakfast was typical, and not something I choose a hotel for, anyway The room was clean, but there were spots of age in the bathroom Nothing of any concern, even to my extremely picky wife (who bristled harshly when I told her we were staying at a Best Western) Even she was pleasantly surprised by the hotel All-in-all, I doubt there is a better place to stay with an ocean view in the area, so book here with confidence

We had our early mother’s day dinner there last Saturday I have known Hotel Laguna for many many years The new ownership/management did a wonderful job with all the changes they have implemented

The bar opening to the patio is such a great idea The fun and positive vibe is so welcomed at the restaurant Thank you for giving us, Orange County residents such a great option for dining and having fun at a reasonable price

Such a historic place needs the attention of being upgraded Happy to be apart of itOnce its finished it can be a very energetic place to have a nice dinner on one of California’s top beachfront restaurantsGreat Job to the Super Greg who oversees the whole project

Seems a great guy to work with or work for

I’m a local and I really want to like this place I really do The hotel itself isn’t open so this is a review of the restaurant

The decor is beautiful, the views couldn’t be better, the menu looks good We came to eat in the bar right after they opened and I thought I’d give them another try even though the service was disappointing It seemed like they recruited at Fridays in Vegas We had the exact same experience this time, except worse VERY low-end service in a high-end environment I think the incongruity actually makes the poor service stand out more Either dumb down the decor or upgrade the staff First we sat in the bar, but after sitting for 10 minutes with no service at all I asked to go into the dining room I’m glad I did because the view is amazing! We were given only one menu which we had to share The waiter asked if I was ready to order after we had been seated for less than a minute and he didn’t ask for a drink order We ordered and then half the food came out 15 minutes before the other half That’s just not done! How rude! I get to choose between bad manners and cold food Not cool I don’t even think they get that wrong at Fridays! While we were still eating a busser tried to take the plate with the sauces on it It happens, but it’s annoying when you have to micromanage your table staff when trying to enjoy your meal Then when we were done eating we sat with dirty plates for half an hour while we waited for our desert We finally decided to leave without our desert We paid at the desk, not the table because we had been waiting too long The food sounded a lot better than the reality The burger was tasteless for some reason, the octopus was inedible — chewy and dry somehow at the same time The short-rib cigars were delicious tho Please please get new staff and training more befitting the vibe of the rest of the place I’d love to enjoy this place it’s so perfect in every other way The staff just needs to class it up! I’d be so happy to change my review in the future Good luck!

I stay here at least 20 times a year And the thing I look for is jumping in the spa So when this happens it absolutely sucks The could certainly do better with making sure the water pressure and shower fixers work well Maybe some new fixers that create better pressure But other then that with prices now your not finding much better with all that is offered Keep it up Love this place

Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at due to their hotel manager Lisa I contracted with San Clemente Inn for my big wedding weekend I say this with absolute assurance that every single person who booked a room through our room block had an issue

Some guests were told our room block didn’t exist (so I would call and resolve the issue on others behalf), some were told it was sold out and they needed to get a room elsewhere, some never even received a emailed confirmation following up their reservations, and some were told they didn’t have a reservation upon arrival When my guests were told it was sold out, I was then given a call to let me know that I needed to sell more rooms or they would be taking my deposit I quickly informed them of my guests that were told it was sold out (3 different occasions), to which the manager Lisa gave me such attitude and spoke over me with such a condescending tone asking for the time and date to which my guest was told this so she could listen to the phone recording I don’t keep records of my guests phone log, so I couldn’t provide that information When I followed up to resolve the issue I was informed by an employee that phone calls are NOT recorded, so I am not too sure why Lisa said this I had guests who arrived who were told they didn’t have a reservation even though they had a credit card charge Every interaction with management was met with such grief and aggression The staff at the front desk were lovely, but I must say this is a hotel ran by a manager without customer service skills We are in a time when staffing is short and so I try my hardest to be patient and kind, but the troubles we faced were met with a lack of customer care and I think the owners of this hotel should know I will not be staying here and neither will any of my 35 guests due to the difficulties they caused throughout the entire experience San Clemente Inn needs to figure out their hotel management and get a hold because this was no way to treat any customer

At first glance everything looked good, but the hotel is VERY – VERY noisy Our room was at the ground level Their floor is made of tile and you can hear every step, loud screechy sounds when upstair neighbors moved their chairs and it can be as late as 2 am or as early as 6am

Also room service didn’t do their work as often as we would like to Our room wasn’t clean for 3 days and we had a lot of trash and used towels on the floor The queen bed is comfortable, the other 2 twin beds are notOn the bright side the pool is very good It has a salt water instead of chemicals The room has a full size fridge, microwave, small stove top, even a small dishwasherMy overall stay was bitter sweet

Although we are already loyal Hampton Inn inhibitors, this particular outlet surpassed all our expectations The parking was convenient, the breakfast was fresh and diverse, the rooms and amenities were top-notch, rivaling even some of the elite perks of an Embassy Suites or a Hyatt Regency Most appreciated was the welcome extended by the desk clerk

I’m sorry I missed his name, but he went above and beyond to make us truly feel like a guest—a lost art in the hotel business Thank you for value and excellence I will stay there any chance I get to visit San Clemente in the future

To start, the price was perfect for our little getaway, our room faced the Ocean The staff was so kind, we were able to check in early, we got a 2 queen bedroom The living room was perfect for our 7 year old daughter to have her own space and watch her shows and play away from the bedroom area

We were provided with a play pin for our 6 month old (she played in that and slept in the bed due to the pin not having a mattress, but still perfect!) Waffles and coffee in the morning after a workout hit the spot! We didn’t do much around the area, it was just a relaxing vacation We are definitely coming back See you guys soon!

I warned you This place is rough It’s a small, old, disjointed hotel that is NOT worth it

Spent 2 nights here and our stay and sleep were awfulEverything is broke Our AC broke at 2am Our locks on our doors never worked The elevator broke The walls in our room were disgusting, see pictures The shower head was broken The beds were both broken and make noise The couch was broken Oh but 2 brand new TVs so that’s niceThe whole place has a funky smell, the breakfast was gross and kept running out of food The parking is a jokeThey said they “might” renovate in 2 years…so don’t say I didn’t warn youDo yourself a favor and stay by the pier Same price, less homeless people around and you’ll have a better stay Shame on you Hilton, this place is a joke

Great location, within walking distance to everything you need The building is in need of some updating, but the staff is phenomenal Christine at the front desk was the most helpful and friendly person we’ve ever met! Knowledgeable of the area and willing to do whatever she could to make our stay great! Even lent my friend her hairspray while we were getting ready for a wedding

Wendy was also great and gave us good good food recommendations Will definitely be back Thanks for a great stay

I loved this place! They were super helpful and accommodating We had booked a room nearby at the Beachfront Inn two months in advance who decided they could get more money by giving our room to someone else since the mask mandate had been lifted and things got busy We were 800 miles from home and left with nowhere to go and one day notice to find something else

I’m so glad we found the Dana Point Marina Inn because they saved us They were the friendliest staff and gave us a ton of information on food, activities and shopping in the area They kept our luggage for us so we could get lunch while we waited for our room to be cleaned They also let us in to hang out at the pool while we waited The rooms were clean and it was nice to have a balcony to sit on and take in the fresh ocean air

Beautiful hotel room The couch is the only downside it’s not great But the view from the patio is stunning

The bed was firm, pillows comfortable, front desk guy was super nice getting us checked in very late Breakfast had some tasty pastries, juice, milk, coffee, yogurt, cereal and boiled eggs Fridge and microwave in the room is a nice addition Very happy with our stay here

Femme Fatale

If I could give a negative rating i would For starters, they didn’t give me the room I booked Second this place is not clean at all

the toilet was dirty and the bathroom smelled Oh and don’t get tricked with the beachfront more like street front There is nothing close to the beach about this place The personal did not comeOff as friendly or helpful at all Breakfast sucks Basically spend your money elsewhere

We booked a beachfront suite for our anniversary An hour in the suite my fiance comes out of the bathroom soaking because water was pouring out of the ceiling They moved us to another “suite” before we saw it they told us it was going to be better and bigger

It wasn’t it was partial view and smaller Which is fine but they still wanted to charge us the same I looked on their website it was at least a $30 difference per nightThe next day I’m in my room and a man came in my room through the balcony, please note this happened on the 3rd floor Its been a hassle trying to get this fixed We stayed 4/13-4/15 They really didn’t seem to care or take anything into consideration

We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in August The accommodations were perfect as we were looking for a quiet place to relax and recharge The Cottage had just been redone and had everything we needed

Loved that we had our own kitchen for nights we did not want to go out We brought our bikes which were safely kept in the courtyard right outside our door I would highly recommend this adorable getaway for anyone It is close to town and the beaches Aneta & her husband were so kind and accommodating 5 stars for sure and we will be returning when we can getaway

Wow Just wow

From the moment we accidentally startled Bill in reception, we knew we were in for a good stay Him and his wife Sandra are possibly the most hospitable people on the planet They’ve opened up their stunning period home to lucky guests like us and treat them like royalty Quaint, well appointed and incredibly spacious room with a high bed fit for a King and Queen The garden surrounding the property is sprawling and buzzing with life and my fiance adored spending time amongst the flora The breakfast; hand delivered each morning at 8am to a distinctive knock from Bill is generous, delicious and prepared with love by Sandra, you can tell We will recommend to anyone going to California to stay here and we really hope to be back again Amazing

The rooms are very nice – we got one that had a beautiful ocean view on the third floor Only problem with the ocean view is that you get the traffic noise and if you’re sensitive to noise, don’t get an ocean view room They are very clean and nicely decorated and the owners are extremely nice and helpful

I would stay there again in a heart beat!!

Nori Y

Room was very clean and in great condition, staff was greatI was on the back side and did not notice any freeway noise Parking was mostly in a small parking garage with a low ceiling with a few more spots in the back, if you have a large vehicle I would check ahead first

The staff was great making sure I was able to park were I would be comfortable

Destiny Flores

The staff was absolutely horrible to my elderly mother We will not go back And during the evening they gave her room away and a perfect stranger (thankfully not a crazy) walked in her room

Almost giving her another heart attack then the front desk called her room rudely asking what she was doing in there It wasnt handled professionally at all Thankfully they “found her reservation and my mother could stay” This is not a big hotel UnacceptableAnd the beds were not great and extremely cheap patio chairs

Our time there was very nice, but the room is dated and some of the furniture could use some repair/scratch treatment They could also update the chairs in the room to something a little more comfortable Otherwise, the breakfast was basically continental/American and had some decent choices

The hotel is also conveniently located to shopping and many good restaurants and fast food places I would recommend them to anyone who wants a decent place to stay for a reasonable price

Sue H

My cousin and his wife stayed here to be close to my Mom in Laguna Woods They were given a discount on the room, and breakfast was included They reported it was very nice

There was a fridge in the room and she loved the heat lamp and plush towels in the bathroom! It was very clean and they loved the beautiful grounds They would definitely stay here again

Tommy Savage

Great clean rooms with a so-so continent breakfast, but it is free, so how can I complain The brightest point of the hotel besides it’s cleanliness, great sized rooms and fair prices is the staff that works there They are the most helpful individuals I have ever met

They were always concerned about my needs and did everything they could to take care of everything for me It didn’t matter if it was the morning shift or evening shift they were all fantastic! Thank you ladies and gentlemen for being true professionals!
