The best hostel!!!!! I stayed here for a week (in a private queen room) and couldn’t fault it at all Super modern, clean and awesome The rooftop bar was a huge plus, although not open every night so be aware of that

Great location to get to downtown on the bus or walk to some cool restaurants Staff were lovely Seriously can’t stop thinking about how cool the place was, wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels before and this genuinely was the nicest Don’t miss it!

Great idea, has potential, lacking in executionI stayed in one of the 4 bed female dorms for 2 nights I was very excited about a new hostel in Portland

I’ve stayed in many a European hostel so am familiar with the structure and price bracket The facility is clean and modern and the attached cafe and rooftop bar are nice amenities Unfortunately I was too exhausted the first night to check out the rooftop bar, and on the second night it was mostly blocked off for a private event that appeared to also block the computer room area, which I was planning to use I wish that guests were priority in the use of space, especially considering that the price for 2 nights came to $103 total for a dorm room which is higher than most hostelsThe layout of the shared dorms is great in theory – enter into a common area with a small locker for luggage storage and 2 toilets/2 showers shared by 3 – 4 bed dorm rooms which are accessed through this room I would think the intention behind this is to keep non-sleeping activities out of the quiet spaces for sleeping However, the lockers are too small so luggage ends up in the room anyway The photos on the website failed to show single window dorm rooms, which have a more claustrophobic feel The bunks don’t seem to be bolted to the wall, which allows them to shake a fair bit when getting in or outThe most disappointing part of the layout is that despite what seems like careful planning of intentional quiet spaces, the doors are all THE loudest self closing doors in a space with no sound absorption so you constantly hear the slam of doors at any hour someone comes in or uses the bathroom I understand rugs would be hard to keep clean, but some kind of sound absorption paired with soft-close doors would be a huge upgrade to this spaceOverall, the hostel served it’s purpose of offering a reasonably affordable and clean place to stay in a great location And all the staff I encountered seem great

Perfect place to launch a college reunion trip Lolo Pass was ideal for our group and we used a ton of the first-class accommodations We enjoyed the rooftop views, the coffee at the cafe and even participated in a local wine tasting event held in the lobby

This was an excellent accommodation for this guest attending a weekend workshop in the area The host was accommodating, responding to a special request to have the suite ready for an early check-in if possible The host was attentive and assisted the guest with getting acquainted with the suite and neighborhood

The accommodations were well-cared for and clean The bed was comfortable and the suite was well appointed for comfort and function The street noise was minimal and the windows could be opened It was a welcome place to retreat to after a full day This guest’s forgotten item was immediately sent back in the post It is an Airbnb I would book again and highly recommend

Basic and cozy, a delightful change for this hotel-chain-weary traveler Parking is steps from the door The suite is clean, comfortable and scent/odor-free

Both kitchen and bath exhaust fans vent to the outside, which is becoming increasingly hard to find The heat and AC both work well The place is carefully appointed and well maintained, from sturdy fixtures to gleaming caulk around the tub I particularly enjoyed cooking and dining there – quality dishes and flatware, full size fridge and a large, deep stainless sink Plenty of good cookware and utensils too I appreciated the thoughtful touches like warm lighting in the main area / bright lighting in the bath, extra light bulbs, two spectacular books on Oregon and a splendid picture over the bed of Vista House overlooking the Gorge, shades that you can open either up or down, closet stocked with plenty of nice new wooden hangers, extra pillow/softest-on-earth-blanket and even an umbrella!, and rolling nightstand for easy access to the outlet behind Jane (owner) was refreshingly genuine and pleasant to interact with A hidden gemPS To correct three previous reviewers, this is neither an apartment, AirBnb nor hotel It’s more like having your own mini-home-away-from-home It’s more personal, with higher quality amenities than an apartment or hotel, without the uneasiness of staying in someone else’s home like an AirBnb For my purposes it’s the best of all worlds

Would highly recommend this place for anyone that wants to feel like they have a “home” to go to instead of a hotel room My husband and I enjoy having our own kitchen space so when I found this place so close to where my daughter was staying in Portland I knew that this was where we needed to be We were not disappointed! While they don’t book through any of the internet travel sites (which made my husband skeptical) Jane is awesome at returning phone calls and emails and she graciously worked with us even though our dates had to change

There was a personal letter for us upon arrival, one brief visit in the parking lot, a phone call to make sure that we had everything that we needed and a “thank you” post card after we returned home The room was neat, clean and very well equipped – even provided coffee for the coffee maker so she gets an extra star for that!

I picked this place for our girls trip to Portland since we wanted a fun place to stay It looked cute in the photos and all was well after booking I checked the website when we landed in Portland to see what time we could check in and it was not until 3pm so we decided to go explore since we couldn’t check in

I got a call later from the owner asking what time we would be there and this was at around 1pm I was confused but was told that she would leave a key in a spot for usWhen we arrived there was not a lot of street parking but after stalking a car we found a spot in front of the house The outside is really cute with a great porch Inside is kind of an adventure Great vintage pieces and good Victorian accentsI asked the owner of there was anyone else staying the night we were and she said all but one room was full! We decided to haul our luggage upstairs to our room and check it out The shared shower room upstairs was pretty dirty! There was dirt and ants in the shower and small black hairsWe got back from dinner at 8pm and literally the house was dark There was no one there We tried finding a glass for water and found that the kitchen was barricaded with something behind the door stopping us from going in thereWhen we woke up the next morning, still no one was there I just wish the owner would have called us and told us we were the only ones there for security and safety reasonsI would not stay here again

I have travelled from abroad to stay in Portland and landed upon the Portland International Guesthouse on Google search And, man, have I come to the right placeGroggy, I arrived late on Sunday but Tim made it very clear and easy to check in when I got to their guesthouse, a welcome relief

To top it off, both Tim and Stephen went out of their way to answer my many questions (many of them dumb questions!) and accommodate my needs, practically bending over backwards to make my stay as pleasant as possible, even recommending favourite food haunts It felt like I was staying with close friendsThe guesthouse is listed as 3-star but with all that Tim and Stephen have done, 5-star is really more appropriate It’s lovely and understanding folks like Stephen and Tim that make me want to stay in PortlandThank you both!

The historic White Eagle is one of my favorite McMenamins locations The people, the food, the beer, the staff, and the atmosphere here is amazing Live music is a regular occurrence

You can book a stay in the hotel that runs above the establishment, yet be prepared to hear music and fun below The rooms are cozy and provide the basics, but the bathrooms are usually communal and located elsewhere close by Rooms are all individually named, designed and painted in the true and unique McMenamins style You can’t help but feel the history and imagine the past when visiting the White Eagle

Oran Schwinn (Scruluce)

A very Portland experience! Completely sketchy in all the best ways!Shared single toilets and showers (2 each) down the hall from any/all of the rooms (single rooms, locking doors)first floor bar/pub lots of local brews on tap, with reasonably priced flights

Friendly and welcoming staff all aroundLive music nightly

Loretta Owens-Crousser

White Eagle gives McMenamins a bad name Yes, their food and drinks are great The atmosphere and vibe are what you expect when you enter a McMenamins

Here is the reality, The White Eagle is a few blocks from the top trauma hospital in Oregon People walk in there to escape the trauma they are dealing with in their everyday life The staff at the White Eagle need to be mindful of the stresses that people might be dealing with when they walk in Did their loved one just pass? Are they here as they struggle with the decisions they face when they walk out the door, seeking a brief moment of normalcy? When a customer walks in, states they are on a tight time limit, just wants a brief escape from the trauma they are dealing with they don’t want to be harassed 6 times in the space of an hour if they are there for the “show” and it’s $1000 if you are there after the show starts The White Eagle is one of the VERY FEW places near this hospital! Show some compassion, consider where you are located ! DO BETTER !!!

I was between ratings in this stay I have a relative that put us up in this guesthouse that lives in the area HIGHLY recommend the area as all the restaurants and shops are very walkable and such a beautiful area in a lively neighborhood

Contactless check in was a plus, we stayed in the Beverly cleary room which faces the front of the guesthouse keeping in mind spring to fall there is an ac unit in the window so you hear quite a bit (We turned on the fan feature and it drowned everything out) It was a large room with its own bathroom The public guest areas were very nice and always clean with breakfast accommodations and a fridge (Though they only had one tiny drawer for guests) My only reason for not doing 5 stars was because of a staff member who came off very cold and unwelcoming I believe she was actually one of the owners I heard someone in the hall so opened the door and as I stood in the doorway I say hello! And her response was “mask!” (These are required in their public areas at this time) I then say ok… we are staying here almost a week and we were just wondering if we could get more towels? She responds with “they are right next to you, As it states in the welcome letter Mind you this was a very brisk tone like we were being a nuisance Well I read and reread that letter and it says to ask if someone is available … so we were just following direction I have worked in all industries and would not talk a to patron this way Many different ways to have handled this Other than that there was a gentleman that was there on arrival, very nice, as well as the cleaning staff

***This review was written about a stay during COVID***Exceeded our expectations! The website photos did not do the room justice We stayed in the first floor studio and it was a lot larger than expected Bed was very comfortable, shower was very nice

Most important to us (we were traveling with a packed car) there was a parking lot attached to the property, we were able to move things very easily from our car to the roomBreakfast was grab and go, perfect for our situation Would gladly stay again next time we are in the PNW

At first I felt this was the best hostel I ever visited then I saw further

Shiny, offering good food, activities and location, there were large piles of dirty sheets in both the dorm rooms and it took THREE tries to get the staff to clean them up, no vacuuming  Odd for such a nice place  Poor room cleaning, lack of supervision   THEN two weaknesses appeared  Perhaps as cause and effect, Portland in general is challenged by homeless everywhere, and this place is in the best neighborhood in the city  The locked gates and vigilant security kind of make this feel like Fort Apache  The CONTROL factor goes overboard with staff on a steaming summer night telling me and a friend who are talking softly in the outdoor area we must leave since it is 10pm sharp  This is the same staff member who when serving a single cup of regular coffee, that’s it, checks diligently if SHE got a tip  Free bagel, which they obsessively count (you get just one)  The staff is PRECISE, tight cheap, CONTROLLED doing ONLY and exactly is requiredAgain, the hostel is beautiful and “well” runThe final overriding fishy element is having been there for 4 nights, interacting with 20 or so staff, only TWO showed the slightest humanity These two did not do ONLY as they were directed, and it’s those who the big boss should point to when “training” his obsessively controlled staff  The two Great Staff members are Chris at the Front Desk and Ginger  They are like real people!  The 15 or so often rotating staff members are mostly young pretty girls with tight clothes who do ONLY and  EXACTLY as they are programmed  This attitude is not necessary, even if you are in Fort Apache PortlandNice Hostel, give Ginger and Chris a raisePS, on my last day I saw a supervisor interviewing yet another young pretty job applicant The Supervisor used a computer doing an EXTENSIVE question analysis I couldn’t help wanting to intrude and say, “ask her if she likes people! What would you do if a customer wanted a refill on his coffee?”IBM trains staff to treat each customer as SPECIAL Show this to the big boss who made me leave a kitchen area because he was having a staff meeting and removed an UNplayed guitar from my hands because it was getting near 10pmGood hostel, Super Neighborhood Lots of electronic locks around the place – The motto: OMG! People are TALKING after 10pm!

This place exceeded my expectations, it was really well maintained Everyone was friendly, both the workers and guest I would recommend staying here if you’re passing through, they are knowledgeable and helpful

The Hostel was spacious and the bathrooms were clean It looked cool inside and in the backyard My only small issue was that the beds would make noise from movement, like high squeaking It didn’t bother me, but it bothered the guy in the bunk next to me and he was angry And his anger and huffing and puffing bothered me more than the slightly squeaky bed But comfort wise they good, the rooms didn’t get overly warm either Dope place 🙂

A

Sleeping in the 8 person dorm is a little unusual, but tolerable Nice bed, decent blankets, decent pillows Temperature control leaves a bit to be desired

If you can, bring some headphones you can sleep comfortably in There is a sense of community that’s very inviting Staff was helpful, and went out of their way to make sure I got the new codes to the room and building Overall good accomodations, and a great experience And, of course, the price is absolutely unbeatable Great restaurants and shopping nearby If you can tolerate sleeping in the presence of others (or get a room) you owe it to yourself to stay here

What a pleasant surprise after a week-long trip camping on the coast Gail was filling in for the owners and answered our call an hour before arriving and told us a room was available on a Friday night She provided top-notch hospitality, great conversation, and a great breakfast

We loved playing cards on the porch at night and watching a movie in the downstairs theaterRooms are nicely decorated Slept with the windows open in late August Would definitely stay again!

We decided we needed a mental break, and spent the last two days at the coziest B&B ever, located in the heart of MilwaukieThe grounds were astoundingly beautiful, and made us feel like we were hidden away from the world We booked the Winter Garden suite, and we had the biggest bathroom I’ve ever had, complete with a coffee cart and fireplace

The daily breakfast was so delicious, and you could have as much as you wanted Most of all, we loved the downstairs movie room, where we watched four films in two daysI’m grateful for the rest and recuperation, the quiet moments, the hot baths, the naps in the canopy bed, and curling up in a cozy chair reading
