I admit, I was a little apprehensive about staying here with some of the reviews I read but will tell you, while not fancy, this hotel was great! The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff was GREAT! The breakfast was more than enough for being a continental spread Thank you Krystal for being so accommodating to my family during such a hard time! Beth was so sweet and helpful to us as well I was very pleased

The only drawbacks I would be able to mention would be that the pillows were too soft LOL

R Drevs

Not fancy or high image if you need that not your place HOWEVER if you want a good clean room at a reasonable but not cheap price this is your place Staff and owner are very helpful and and friendly

We had a very early departure and they actually made coffee rolls open an hour early for usSide note just across the street there is a drive in restaurant for quick meals BUT next to it is a delightful family owned Steakhouse well worth your time to visit

Stayed at this hotel for a work trip The rooms are clean and beds are goodThe hallways smelled like stale cigarettes

Rooms smelled like fresh paint We think they might be painting over mold and the stale cigarette smell Breakfast is bad Showers and toilets were bad Overall it’s a crappy hotel, but you can’t expect much

Not a good hotel The doors on the room looked like something had dripped down without being wiped off The mattress was so broken down, you rolled to the middle

There was a shower only, no bathtub The “business center” was a counter in the lobby There is loud music piped into the lobby This makes holding a virtual meeting impossible And the whirlpool was out of order The whirlpool was a big reason for picking the hotel I expected so much more from Holiday Inn Express

Kristopher Kick

The hotel manager, Byron, was not concerned with the issues raised and was focused on comping a night of our stayThe issues we experienced through our 8-night stay:- Many bugs in our room (gnats, spiders, earwigs, and springtails)- The room was dirty upon arrival (previous guests hair in bathroom, dust everywhere, poorly vacuumed carpet, and bugs in bathroom)- The hotel ran out of pillows and we needed to go purchase our own- The shower curtain rod is falling off the wall- The room air conditioner is not fully operational- The emergency lights in the hallway are broken and hanging by the wires- multiple amenities were not working (hot tub, ice machines, and vending machines)- The breakfast often included some items from the previous day (reheated after sitting out)With all of those negatives, the only positive about our stay (and other guests we interacted with) was DJ, who sometimes works the front desk DJ was extremely helpful (within what she was allowed to do), always friendly, and consistently listened and noted my concerns for the manager (who did virtually nothing)

A note for the owner: We stayed in room 301 from 07/16/2022-07/24/2022, feel free to contact me directly

Jessica Sallis

Where do I start

I booked a room online and got there and checked in The lobby smelt like sewage and the room smelt very musty Our dresser was being balanced up by a hanger, our furniture was broken along with our ac The kitchen sink was Disgusting 🤢 The hot tub was broken and so was the ice machine on our floor The hot tub was clearly not going to be fixed ( judging by the slime and stinky water left behind) I wouldn’t recommend a stay here We literally left and found another hotel to lodge at Now we’re out almost 30000 and waiting for them to return it to our account Don’t waste your time or money Disappointed IGH was associated with this hotel 😕

The room was ok not the best I’ve been in The shower floor made noises like you thing of falling through the floor The ice machine was broken

The front desk person said it has been broken for weeks All the main doors in to place didn’t even lock and people around the place where very shady Very little parking and the staff was even more shady The breakfast server was about the only helpful person and the night clerk was too Will never go to Crystal Lake Super 8 ever again

Carey Sherwood

The rooms are marginal Need some updating on the electronics The rooms have cable, fridge and a one cup coffee pot

As far as location McDonald’s is right next door along with a chase bank Multiple other business within walking distance Room rates (cringe) way way too high Reduce your prices Otherwise, I’d stay there again

Doris Kling

Don’t stay there Jamie, who is the daughter of the owner Is especially rude and nasty

When I was trying to have a civil conversation with her, she screamed at me She repeatedly screamed I don’t care What type of customer sevice is that I am a business owner I don’t allow my employees to act that way Her father and owner is obviously ok with treating people like that

I booked a weekend at the Victorian Rose Garden B & B with friends recently for an event in Chicago I thought I was booking just a room, but what we had was an entire experience Sherry graciously opens her home and makes you feel welcomed and more like friends than guests

We enjoyed this lovely Victorian home and all it had to offer Our room had a wonderful feel including a private bathroom with a claw foot tub If you are looking for a place without interaction from your host, this is not the place for you Sherry greats you when you arrive, sat down at breakfast to share in the conversation and was always on hand if needed If you are looking to be treated like family I would definitely recommend checking into this lovely B & B!

Michael Grossenbacher

My wife and I came out for a long weekend to reconnect and get some time away from our kid The experience was overwhelmingly positive Sherry was a fantastic host, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts were amazing

We expected the sort of continental breakfast you’d get at a hotel but instead got a different homemade meal every day – apple french toast, cheese and spinach quiche, and vegetable omelets, all with fresh fruit There’s really nothing negative I can say about this place We’ll be staying here again when we come back into town

Jennifer Moody

I had a great experience at the Victorian Rose Garden B&B I was only there for a night, but got to enjoy some quality conversations with Sherry, had a delicious breakfast, a comfortable night’s stay, and a great book on the porch I stayed in Lady Teresa’s bedroom – the bed was comfy, the air unit kept the room comfortable without being loud, and I didn’t hear any of the other guests

I actually thought the room was much bigger in person than it looked in the photos Downtown Algonquin was cute and so close – we’ll have to come back to stay so we can experience that

I was in town for a wedding and this was the hotel listed on the invite It is the only hotel in Harvard IL We ultimately did not stay the night here

We used the facilities after the wedding around midnight The water in the shower didn’t get past luke warm And drove the hour and twenty minutes to Madison, throwing $12200 away Found a bug when I moved a pillow, it wasn’t a bedbug The room was dingie I told my fiance not to sit on the couch It’s very rundown and in need of repair and updates Our door was swollen and hard to open and close The back door to the hotel didn’t lock I assume it’s only a few people operating the hotel as you have to call if no one is at the front desk The staff is polite and were very accommodating Letting us check in early so we wouldn’t miss our shuttle to the venue I don’t write this in ill will, I only hope this hotel improves

Latrisha Wright

Our air conditioning didn’t work so it had to have been about 80 degrees in the room(even felt better outside!) Also had a small child with us with health conditions so we definitely couldn’t sit in that heat We had a jacuzzi room, but the water was brown and apparently coming from the hotel staff the jet’s didn’t work either

I’ve never picked up my bags to leave a hotel so fast!

Rasheed Hudson

This place used to be okay Not amazing, but you don’t expect it to be with how inexpensive the rooms are One guy used to run the whole place and he did it smoothly and fairly efficiently

Now, the manager has hired an entire team to run the hotel and they’re running it into the ground Some of the staff is really sketchy and weird, There was talk about one of the members of staff stealing, when I try to check in they frequently don’t have a room clean and I need to wait for them to frantically clean it The final nail in the coffin was when I tried to check in and they told me they didn’t have any rooms with one bed but when I went outside there was only 4 cars in the parking lot I’ve given this place tons of business and the decline in quality feels like a betrayal

I came down to visit my son and his family I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice this Hotel and marina was It was clear there had been some updates made

It was clean; that is what I look at Very pleasant and accommodating staff The balcony facing the river was my happy place I even extended my stay an extra day The restaurant is closed; but there is no shortage of restaurants, bars or places to go within a short distance from the hotel

Mark Sturges

What a nice, quaint, little private owned hotel! I found this place because I had business dealings nearby I was impressed with the owner, Gary, as he was the one who took my reservation as well as checked me in upon arrival Great conversationalist

My room faced the river and was nice, clean, and comfortable, although it was a little small But I was solo so it was ok for me Even had a small balcony to step out on to watch the boats and jet-skis go by

Austin Olesak

This place has so much potential to be a booming hotel that if fixed up and ran right it could easily bring in $150 a night due to its prime location

Honest reviewPictures, signage, etc are very misleading The bed is extremely hard along with the pillows Bed feels like you’re laying on the floorCarpeting is old and has stains Water damage on the ceiling Cheap “repairs” made to the walls, ceiling, baseboards, and bathtub Water smells but it is well waterNo amenities or atleast very littlePositive sideShower pressure is strong almost overwhelming Very hot water Heat/AC works amazingly well No found smells other than the water No signs of bugs anywhere other than the occasional spider Front desk was very nice Easy after hour check in process Just call ahead and they’ll tell you what to doStayed 4 nights during a holidayWould I stay again? No and that’s mainly due to the extremely hard bed and hard pillow If the bed was more soft than I probably would stay again

Ashley Braun

The room was filthy when we got there, hair all over the bathroom was especially disgusting Window was wide open on this 96 degree day, 3rd level room The ac didn’t seem to be working, upon checking the whole filter was caked in dust so the cool air couldn’t really get through

Stand up mirror in the room was half behind the TV stand So that was useless for getting ready for the wedding we were going toThe continental breakfast seemed promising, we seen a few machines and a nice waffle maker When we woke up to go have continental breakfast there were 3 rotted apples, cereal spilled all over the counter and some bananas Such a disappointment even for a motel Do better super 8

Christopher Herting

This place thinks the guests who stay there are idiots They charge you for any damages to the room, which is supposed to be refunded if you don’t damage the room All I did was sleep there, didn’t watch TV, I just slept

They still charged me the damage fee They are a bunch of crooks Don’t stay here, it’s for your own good Better off sleeping in your car

Rasheed Hudson

They take a $100 deposit and it took me almost 2 weeks, multiple phone calls with them AND phone calls to my bank to get that deposit back I needed that $100 and was struggling without it and I had to literally dispute the charge with my bank in order for this place to finally give me my money back When I initially called they accused me of lying and said they gave the deposit back

Don’t trust this place

I’ve stayed here frequently over the past year Every room I’ve stayed in has always been clean, above average The beds are always comfortable and the bathrooms above average

Every front desk person I’ve dealt with is professional, courteous and effective The owner is and has done a great job I’ve never been disappointed staying here

Nicole McCarthy-Vogel

Rhianna was amazing Such a “class act” When I was waiting to move into my new place I was lucky enough to call this hotel and she accommodated me and went above and beyond to make sure my stay was relaxing and enjoyable

A big “thank you” to her for her kindness and compassion! I would definitely stay here again It is rare to encounter someone in the service industry that really takes care of people like she does Again, thank you sooo much!

Angie Dunning

Update: when I communicated the condition of the room/property, I was told I would be getting a “partial refund” Total cost for the room was $206

FOR ONE NIGHT OF FILTH! I received a refund of $30 Despicable! Which means I paid more for one night in this pig pen than I do for a night on the beach The 5 star reviews are completely bogus! The owner should be ashamed of himself A letter and photos will be going to corporateOriginal post:Just need one night thankfully Absolutely disgusting for the price Room stench is awful So dated, furniture torn up, spilled nail polish (I am assuming) on nightstand, and the comforter I don’t even want to know what the stain is The fridge has standing water and mold Update: Literally just found a bug on my daughter’s bed! And this morning found blood on my pillowcase

I stayed 6 nights because I used reward points Day 1: 1st room had a lovely view of the roof top ventilation system Just ugly

I changed rooms and the view of the parking lot was better The fire alarm went off No fire (Thank goodness) Big booger on lampshade turned my stomach Day 2: Breakfast buffet was barely edible Potatoes were dried out; gross Coffee was great! Bath mat had black slime under it Gross Fire alarm went off again FD couldn’t get elevator to work; had to hike up 5 flights of stairs Mattress was broken in on one side like sleeping in a hammock Day 3-4 Did not attempt breakfast buffet Day 5: went to pool Disgusting Big greasy ring around the entire pool Gross Staff is nice Location is great I’m done with this place

Miranda Monticelli

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary We got the king suite with the ‘jetted’ tub When we checked in, the male receptionist was very accommodating and polite

When we took a bath in the tub, the jets were broken I think if you are paying the price for a jetted tub, then you should most definitely get one The breakfast buffet was alright, but I would say not worth $20 You can get the same type of breakfast, if not more at a 2 star hotel with free food The breakfast staff was polite, and attentive The hotel was extremely disgusting I mean, especially during COVID I felt like I was staying at a one star hotel with how gross it was The receptionist explained that they were understaffed I believe that there is no excuse to be that filthy In your spare time, do some of the cleaning yourself I would never allow for my hotel to look this way Children’s handprints all over the glass and sticky door handles throughout The pool was more green than it was blue Trash laying around everywhere- inside and out Plates from the buffet had fingerprints all over them Silverware not polished Floors were dirty too When checking out, we had explained to the female receptionist that our jets were broken in our ‘jetted tub room’ She didn’t even apologize to us for the inconvenience! The hotel manager was just coming into work at the same time, and she failed to get him, or mention our concerns to him If I were in her position, I would have grabbed that manager, and offered some sort of discount since we paid for something we couldn’t even enjoy To top it off, their restaurant was shut down due to being understaffed as well, and the free lemon water was not accessible, so we didn’t get to eat dinner there Instead, we had to go out into town to get food (which took time away for our ‘hotel getaway’ experience) We will probably give this place another chance down the road, I hope they get more organized by thenStay duration: 07/24/22-07/25/22

Uri Gedalia

I stay here quite a bit Nice place Can use some upgrades

The place is recently very busy which is GREAT! Staff usually very nice and helpful BUT when you come to check in at 7:30 pm and there’s no one at the front desk because they need to run around the place putting out fires…that’s an issue I’ve been here many times and they def need more staff at the evening and night time

Hampton Inn McHenry offered a friendly check-in There was a real door on the bathroom! Yay!! This was the only one of our entire 10 day road trip involving several Hampton Inn stays We were so happy for the privacy

If Hilton would consider using real hinged bathroom doors again, we would appreciate the change There was no hot tub as in the pool pictures online It’s spot was filled with concrete The hotel seemed newly redone, and the immediate area seemed nice Mostly it was surrounded by farmland but is within less than an hour of downtown Chicago

Bri Thomas

Not only did the hotel over charge my credit card SEVEN times they laughed about doing it Jacquline charged it when I checked in, Steven charged it on the way out When we were standing in line everyone else was getting print outs of their folios (receipts)

When it was mine and my fiancés turn, we checked out and Steven said the printer “broke” and he’ll work on it It broke conveniently when it was our turn to check out because Steven was well aware of what happened He said not to worry and he’ll email us a copy of our folio He did, and the receipt said we should’ve only been charged twice, half on debit half credit For a total of $37962 and that was fine I was expecting that However, on our ride home to Tennessee I noticed my credit card was charged 5 times and my debit was charged 4 times Each charge was for $18981 I called because my bank was sending me emails notifying me of fraud on my accounts I called and spoke with Jacquline and she essentially said that it wasn’t her problem, laughed and hung up I called back and spoke to the GM, he said he was terribly sorry, released the funds immediately and profusely apologized I called back when I saw 3 more pending charges on my credit card for $18981 and again spoke to Jacquline who then transferred me to Steven Steven said I have to deal with the bank because the payment wasn’t approved, the funds were released and he had to collect payment in order to check me out If payment wasn’t collected, why was I refunded money that I was overcharged? That was a lie because my card was never once declined, money kept being withdrawn My total should have only been $37962, but the total between my two cards was $1,32867 The payment was approved MULTIPLE times and they thought it was FUNNY to keep charging my cards I had to report it all as fraud, be sent a new card and go back and fourth with the bank about why this is happening Not only did over charge my card multiple times, they laughed about and continued to authorize it until I had to report it all as fraud because apparently charging someone’s card for hundreds of dollars is absolutely hilarious according to Jacquline I also requested housekeeping service on my second day, which I never received I had to, at midnight, make my own bed because the housekeepers didn’t My fridge also went out while I was there The engineering/maintenance department was the best part of the stay They were prompt and quick to fix that issue I will never stay at another Hilton property let alone a hole in the wall joint like this one I’ll be staying exclusively with Marriott after this HORRIBLE experience This is my first and LAST time ever staying at a Hilton property Avoid this property like the plaque I could get better service at a Motel 6 than this placeAlso the room was gross The window blind had stains all over it The bathroom vanity was held together with drywall screws There was hair all in the shower from the previous guest

Well, I always read many reviews before choosing a hotel, as I did yesterday My husband and are are out of town for business about once a month and Best Western is one of our favorite hotels to stay in They are usually clean and comfortable

Anyway, as I was reading reviews for this hotel I saw several reviews where people said when they walked into their rooms they were dirty from the previous guests I thought that has to be rare But we walked in our room last night and sheets were on the floor, beds unmade We didn’t look in the bathroom to see if it was leaking My husband told the guy at the front desk, he quickly got us a different room The room smelled disgusting I Clorox wiped all of the things we would touch including the entire bathroom I used 7 wipes and all 7 were visibly dirty I Clorox wipe every hotel we stay in since Covid and this was the filthiest Best Western we have ever stayed in Linens were dingy at best, the room smelled awful there was NOTHING for breakfast The pillows and bed were comfortable enough The young men working the front desk were friendly I would only stay here again if my only other option was my car Shame on Best Western for not checking up on their hotels

Jill Spejcher

Our baseball team was placed at this hotel as a group I would not recommend this hotel for the following reasons:1 This hotel is not located in a desirable area

2 There is an awful smell throughout the entire hotel, including a strong smell of urine in the elevator3 The room had a musty, moldy smell The room appeared picked up but not thoroughly cleaned The bathroom shower had black mold in it The refrigerator was dirty The entire room was dusty Only half of the outlets worked4 The pool was green in color and had a constant drip of water from the ceiling5 The breakfast was absolutely the most disgusting hotel food I have ever experienced They had potatoes that were ice cold in the middle The eggs were a strange consistency and cold Half the labeled items were empty The coffee maker was empty You had to search the hotel for a worker to get any items refilledI am not sure how this hotel gets away with charging the prices that they do

Sarah Galbraith

The hotel and service was decent We were unfortunate enough to have some negativity with other guests Everybody else I knew at the hotel had the same issue with a man calling their room late hours of the night to talk

We also happen to have a party next door to our room They were extremely loud! Music, screaming, laughing, what sounded like wrestling or throwing furniture Somebody came up once to ask them to be quiet but I didn’t helpNo issues with the hotel or staff itself

Unfriendly and unhelpful staff especially at the front desk, not the people I would want as the face of my business Not a single one of the three that I’ve encountered has ever smiled or said hello, have a nice day not one single pleasantry was ever exchanged The woman that checked us in never even spoke until she muttered sign here

There is a much nicer much friendlier place right across the parking lot

Very outdated hotel The front desk staff were unfriendly (except for the nice gentleman who booked our stay) Bed was very uncomfortable

The carpet in the room had stains everywhere, it looked like dogs had accidents all over the floor The bathroom had a jetted tub, which I’m not sure how housekeeping would sufficiently clean Horrible coffee Didn’t bother staying to taste the breakfast We paid $191 for the night and it wasn’t worth anything close to that
