The Popular Outcasts & Genuine Outcasts

I had a wonderful stay at The Gryphon House You never know what to expect when staying at a Bed & Breakfast but The Gryphon House exceeded all expectations Upon arrival we were greeted by Teresa, the owner of the house, who was incredibly accommodating, even helping us carry in our bags

Teresa greeted me by name and welcomed my girlfriend and I like we were old friends We stayed in The Tuscany on the back side of the house, it was warm and inviting with a great sitting area with a fireplace for warming the room, small kitchen, fantastic bathtub for soaking and a large shower We didn’t spend much time in the room as I was in town performing but the time we did spend was comfortable, quiet, and inviting The main sitting area in the common area of the house is decorated in vintage elegant style Above all else we were conveniently located to so many Boston sites I would highly recommend The Gryphon House to anyone visiting Boston

Jason Smith

I was put up at the Gryphon House when I interviewed for my job here in Boston, and I have to say that I was beyond impressed The room I had was the Tuscany room, and it was easily the most amazing hotel experience I’ve ever had Of course, this is coming from the guy who has, previously, slept on the floor of a room full of other people to save money

maybe I’m easily wowedThe bathroom was amazing jet tub separate from the huge, glass shower Fireplace in the room that you control The best bed I’ve had at a hotel Breakfast was continental bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee/tea Oh, free coffee and tea anytime in the lobby I loved the feel of staying in a very old house, and not in a Holiday Inn (which we have stayed in several times here in Boston)I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a completely relaxing stay away from home I have no clue as to the price, as I did not pay for the stay, but can easily vouch for the amenities and service

James Beswick

I only stayed one night for a conference but will definitely return The building is really beautiful and well-maintained, while the room I had was spacious and equipped with everything you could need (including a kitchen and fireplace)The staff here really made my stay – they went above and beyond in every way for their guests

The main lobby area is stocked with snacks, coffee, teas, fruit all day long, while the breakfast is generous selection of different items that are delivered to your room (tip: the house-made granola is excellent) There are board games in the lobby area, and the WiFi was fast so I have nothing to complain about!

My husband and I stayed at the Kendall Hotel 18 years ago and loved it then We came back in April with two teenage children and we were so pleased that it was just as charming and personable as we remembered So much better than staying in a chain hotel

The staff is great and make you feel like family Great breakfast, the waffles are amazing and nice variety of food choices The Cambridge area is so clean and beautiful and just a few step to the T

Kaitlin Gee

We booked our reservation directly through their main website Fantastic boutique hotel with short walking distance to MIT/Kendall Square station The manager (Brenda) is thoughtful and has great restaurant suggestions for foodies that also support the local small businesses in the area

The front desk staff were courteous and willing to help in any way they were able Room was clean and came with a few thoughtful amenities to make the stay feel much more at home while we were in Cambridge Quick continental breakfast helped us to get out of the morning slog as jump start our day more easily Thank you so much; we really hope to stay with Kendall Hotel again

I’m still currently in the hotel but based on last night and this morning me and my boyfriend are loving itCheck in was quick and easy the guy at the front was nice and answered our questions! The staff has been really great whenever we pass them or ask questions Our room was small but perfect for just us two

It was nice and clean the tv can connect to your phone which was niceThe shower water pressure was amazing! The bed was so comfortable And there is a restaurant in the hotel which so far looks amazing but we’re currently waiting for our food!My boyfriend and I can’t wait to come back here as soon as possible!

Benjamin B

At the end of the day a great stay But there were issues to start off with which could have been handled better… you don’t tell a customer who complains about the smell of weed in the room that it is legal in the state It’s legal to smoke cigarettes as well, but you don’t want it in the room

Period But the rest of the staff let me change rooms and they were fantastic! Really great! So thanks!

Ellie C.

I was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised! The room even though it’s small , it’s clean and service was amazing The concierges were all very welcoming and helpful They have complimentary water bottles in every floor and coffee, tea , cappuccino and water also available 24 hrs in there waiting area

It’s also close to many good restaurants and historic places

We stayed for 7 days and the vibes of the hotel was amazing! The housekeeping staff was some hard working ladies The front desk staff was just as amazing! The rooms was a little small but it worked since we didn’t spend to much time in there anyways The conspire in the lower level was my favorite spot to be in, if I wasn’t out on the town! If I am ever back in the area Revolution will be the hotel I stay in

Rachel Morrison

Had such a great time staying here for our anniversary weekend! The hotel is so fun, the staff so kind and helpful, and they also have a delicious coffee shop right at the front for easy breakfasts It’s easy walking distance to so many things, especially the Boston Common, and is in such a beautiful neighborhood They also left a bottle of wine and a note in our room – Which was so thoughtful! 🙂

Justin Downs

Rooms are very small for the bed size/floorspace ratio, even considering the shared bathroom-block concept Design and accoutrements add a level of comfort and thoughtfulness, but some material choices are low worry and feel cheap Lobby design and decor however are impeccable and pay homage to the building and the area’s history

Also the private bathroom units within the shared washroom spaces are very welcoming and provide the privacy level on par with any included in the bedroom spaces, even while being non-traditional concept

Parking was an absolute nightmare There’s also no one to greet you when you show up Also they require you to hand store your car keys downstairs with other people’s keys in case they have to move your vehicle in an emergency

I’m really uncomfortable with that but I didn’t really have a choice because I didn’t know that was the rule until I got there I feel like that’s definitely something that you should state ahead of time LOL Also the breakfast was pretty lame I wouldn’t stay here again unless I absolutely positively had to Also just a suggestion you might want to put something down in the tub so it’s not so slippery Even if you just put down some textured adhesives or somethingAlso it was pretty weird that our personal information was clipped to the outside of the house where anyone could have just walked up and took the key and saw our personal information It was a sealed envelope but it’s not hard to open an envelope Essentially every single envelope has a key in it and therefore anyone just walking by could let themselves into the house Quite bizarre

James Landrum

I have never stayed at a bnb before I was a little nervous but it worked out well We were going to be very busy, needed a place to lay our head and that is about it

The place was clean and easy to find if the construction is done on the road that gets you to Littell Road It was in an area close to the train Which can get you anywhere pretty quickly The area seems nice and people seemed friendly Unfortunately didn’t get to have breakfast the only morning I could there The only small complaint I had was I was staying with a male friend and I requested 2 twin beds for the room but it was not set up that way There was a king mattress on two twin beds I roll when I sleep and he snores majorly! I put pillows down the middle to at least stop me from rolling on him I would do this place again, nice to see they allow kids

Stephen Kelley

This is a wonderful B&B Yes, because of Covid-19, they don’t yet have breakfast But who cares? Breuggers Bagels is around the corner and Trader Joe’s practically next door

Great location, quite clean and amazingly quiet Such a fair price too! Plus they have the best green tea soap Second time here Great both times Highly recommend it!

The room was spotless The beds were very comfortable The kitchen had everything you’d need to prepare a meal (I didn’t use it except to make instant noodles, though)

The room was just pretty modern in general Breakfast tasted normal The staff was friendly The pool was a little small, but it was warm and clean I didn’t go to the gym, so I can’t say anything about it However, the location wasn’t the best Most of the landmarks in Boston are pretty far away

Kelly

Our 4 night stay has been amazing, we leave tomorrow and it’s sad to have it end Breakfast was great every morning, the room is spotless, valet is quick, housekeeping is friendly, and the view is breathtaking (Room 851 is magnificent)! It’s so close to everything you could want to do in Boston This place helped make our trip to Boston awesome

Deborah Raskin

Beautiful hotel, rooms are nice Sheets on the bed are too small, they keep sliding off, very annoying But bed is comfortable and pillows are good

The main area is cold with the exterior door opening at the same time the interior door opens, so bring a sweater to breakfast The food is good, coffee is hot and all the staff was terrific, very helpful and kept everything full and tables cleanIf you like to work out, the gym is fully equipped and very clean The pool is very small so during a busy time it’s more a place to lean against a wall, not to swim for exercise The valet parking is good, all valet staff we dealt with were very nice The drop off area is poorly designed, too tight High chance to bump into another carUber service in the area is terrific, thanks to all the guys for the timely pick up and drop offWe will return to see some more of Boston in warmer weather Thank you to all staff at the hotel

I’ve only been in the Boston area for 8 days but so far so good 👍 I’m loving my accommodations It’s a unique large home that’s clean, the owners are inviting, friendly down to earth people It’s in a fairly decent neighborhood and very close to shopping of all kinds and local eateries

It’s also within 30mins (on public transit) of BWH which is great for me I’m saving a lot of $$$ not having to get an Uber everyday!

I stayed at The Amory Guest House in October 2016 and I was amazed by how clean everything was The beds are really comfortable too I believe they have memory foam mattresses The location is perfect just a few blocks from the subway Central Square a few minutes from Boston and right between Harvard and MIT

They have lots of bathrooms and they are very clean They also offer free breakfast and their kitchen is available for the guests to use I was really happy to be able to play the piano from the living room I totally recommend it and I surely will come back

I’ve stayed at this hotel twice now Once two years ago right after it opened and just last week The decor has aged well and both stays were pleasant

The bed was comfy and the room and common areas clean This is a very dog friendly property The elevators are fast enoughThe rooms include a small kitchenette adequately equipped with utensils, plates, pots, toaster, coffee maker etcThe room included two eating bars with two stools and an extremely comfy sectional The bathroom had a large walk in shower with a rainfall shower and the option of a handheld wand (great for small kids or your dog) The water pressure was good but could have been a tad warmerParking is a lot adjacent but a bit of a walk I’ll stay here again Very good free breakfast

Keith Pfeifle

Great Hotel, the room was spacious and the kitchenette was very nice to have The down stairs area pool and lobby where both fantastic Hotel staff was very helpful

It was a short walk to the Silver Line and a longer walk to the Red Line The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5, was the breakfast My wife loved the breakfast, personally I felt it was a bit froufrou I prefer the standard breakfast offerings at hotels, but I got to draw the line at buckwheat pancakes w/ Nutella It wasn’t a bad breakfast, just not what I like We will definitely consider staying there again A good hotel can either make or break a vacation, this place help make a great vacation

Ryan Whedon

The room was great, I booked this because of my experiences are generally good at this brand Front desk was hot and cold, never a consistent experience This hotel definitely did not have the Heavenly Bed, which was a bummer as I needed a good night sleep

Breakfast was alright, nothing worth waking up for however 1/2 mile walk from the Silver Line which is convenient if you came from the airport like I did

Nice stop on our summer trip The room was very clean and comfortable! It was a nice surprise to have almost a full kitchen in the room Was able to order take out and eat on dishes in the room! Has a nice little laundry room and was able to get our laundry done with no problems! Very secure hotel as you have to use your room key to use the elevator

Danielle Pientka (DIYDanielle)

For one night at $500, I think I expected more Parking is an additional $20 and the parking lot is open, not locked as the app suggested But I don’t think there are other options for parking so it is what it is

There is shorter term parking ~1 hr for visitors Lobby bathrooms are locked so you need to ask for a code at the front deskI love the rooms and the size of them Great for a longer stay and good for larger families Location is good and parking, while paid, is easy There is local shopping and food that you can walk to, but don’t go too far out of the “mall” zone because some other areas don’t seem safeThe free breakfast was okay I have an egg allergy and it was hard to find things to eat and nothing was labeled with allergens Staff couldn’t tell me if the bagels had egg (it’s nice when hotels offer a few wrapped individual items where I can check the ingredients myself, I know they’re busy) The cereal was labeled with brand names but the cheerios were certainly NOT brand name Cheerios (at least not the basic kind) I wouldn’t care but the taste was different which had me concerned about possible allergensAt check in, we were told the price was 4x what we thought and told it was a 4 day stay (so that made sense) They said the computer was messed up so I’m hoping our credit card reflects the one night only that we booked forI love that the gym is attached to the laundry so you can workout while you do laundry Great for a longer stay

Kat Carlos

Location seems sketchy Don’t wander far from the hotelEasy smooth check in with the hilton app

Great room deal, with decent breakfast ( but watch out for random homeless people who would come in and pretend to be hotel guests) $20 for open self parking (neighborhood did not feel safe)Never had housekeeping even after we reported the condition of the room when we arrived There was left over food in the fridge, candy wrappers, pretzels and jellybeans scattered in the room (My toddler picked up a few and almost ate it) They had posters on the room stating that they take “cleanliness seriously” That never happened

I had a nice comfortable room with a king bed The room came with a stand up shower instead of a tub The small kitchen was perfect size for one person and came with some nice extras

Front desk staff was very helpful Swimming pool has salt water a little cold for my liking The workout area is nice and very clean The Housekeeping staff are excellent Great price for a night so near downtown Boston Special thanks to Melvin at the front desk Outstanding service!

Kevin Wilson

This particular Homewood, was very comfortable, easy to navigate throughout my stay The room was well appointed, and clean I like my travels stays with minimal interaction with the hotel staff

This has always been my travel MO even prior to COVID, so the HIlton app, is a godsend, getting in and out of the hotel requires minimal to no hotel staff interaction, I get my bill timely and the room accommodations are as close to home as I can possibly hope for The Bed is super comfortable, and the bathroom, and accompaniments plentyThe kitchen is basically home away from home They could improve on the in room coffee machines though This is the only area to me, that cheapens the experience Great in room coffee matters The machines and coffee are the only area in vast need of improvement All else was fantastic

Monica Steinmuller

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days the second week of August I would like to commend the gentleman overseeing the breakfast area Every morning we were there, even though at some moments he needed to hussle because of the many guests at the breakfast area, he greeted everyone with a smile on his face and with the words “Welcome to Breakfast”

He made our day every day Thank you!

Nice location as it is right by the red line into downtown Boston Also pet friendly with additional $100 per night $15 per night per car for parking

Breakfast was available and it had a pretty good spread There is a night bar which we didn’t check out since we have kids but the hotel in general was kid friendly as well Worth the stay if you are stopping for a day by Boston and driving through

Paige Richmond

We stayed for over a week and their card service consistently never worked Their staff had to guide us to our room everyone, so it was always a hassle to get into the room we paid for Some staff are friendly, while others act annoyed when they have to help guests

Also, we have to constantly ask for toilet paper and clean towels, etc The rooms are pretty nice and breakfast is OK It’s right near the North Quincy T stop which is convenient

Very expensive for a hostel, at least the night I was there Maybe the rates are a lot better on other days I guess they were taking full advantage of the ridiculously priced hotels in the area

Front desk staff were okay, but not super friendly with me I immediately began to wonder if I should be there, because I’m a mid 40s woman, and maybe they prefer younger people Then I got in the elevator and saw a large sign that said, “to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and it’s people through hosteling” I’m still scratching my head over this moto and the way I felt just seconds prior I don’t want to be one of those people who pick something apart and misconstrue the real meaning of things, but I did feel that they “ESPECIALLY” prefer younger travelers The experience left me feeling unwelcome and a little sad I can learn a lot from younger people and they can learn a lot from me Together, and not “especially” one or the other, is what I want and need Other than that, the place was clean with nice sharable spaces I only needed a place to sleep and then left

Would definitely stay again Doors are noisy and the six bed dorm rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but the staff work hard to maintain the hostel Spacious kitchen and lounge areas

The hostel is very colorful with wall art and paintings There is a little cafe adjacent to the front desk Lots of windows and natural sunlight Hostel is centrally located within walking distance to public transportation in around the city Boston is very lively Luv the city vibe

This was my very first time staying in a hostel I chose this hostel because it was rated higher than the $300-400 a nite hotels in the Boston area I was NOT disappointed

The staff is VERY helpful The facility is very clean and safe All the common areas are spacious and clean as well The travelers I met while there were friendly and quiet I had a great experience

We stayed here for eight nights while on our vacation in Boston We really enjoyed this hotel Our room with a king studio

It gave us plenty of space to stretch out It had a full kitchen and a sleeper sofa The room was kept very clean by the maid service The hotel has a very nice complementary breakfast in the morning I loved that they had choices for anyone that might even have diet restrictions They would have vegetarian sausage, turkey sausage, waffles, eggs, home fries, even sweet potato home fries a couple of times The staff at the front desk was always very helpful and friendly We enjoyed this location because it was very close to the red line It also has numerous choices of restaurants within walking distance Overall I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel in Cambridge Massachusetts again

usual refurbished hotel where they keep the old infrastructure it looks nice and clean but AC is super noisy Once you shut down AC and unplug the fridge (my friend had to unplug the dishwasher too) it becomes decently quiet

I asked for a quiet room on my reservation which the hotel staff ignored: i ended up on the street and not in the back every morning i got woken up by street works or neighbor shower before 6amRoom service is every other day but you pay the same price each night of course nobody tells you when you book or check-inThe breakfast is below average OJ and bagels are fine avoid eggs and bacon!

Everything was perfect about our stay from fulfilling our request for a higher floor room with a view, to the breakfast staff meeting our request for a “hot” vegetarian item We were leaving at about 5am on the final day and the breakfast doesn’t open until 6:30am/7am, but the staff was very nice enough for us to let us pick a few bakery and refrigerated items for to go that early morning The room was VERY spacious with a fully stocked kitchen with pots and pans

It was very helpful for the Uber Eats delivery we had one of the nights as we could eat in the “real” plates and use the silverware We put the left overs in the fridge The entire staff of the hotel was very respectful and ever smiling Having a Starbucks attached to the hotel was great and the exit thru the Starbucks to the parking garage was super convenient

We stayed here for my daughter’s 8th grade graduation trip The place was nice and clean Our issues were with the very poor front desk staff that did not help

I was fraudulently charged for “damages” there were no damages to the room I had a police report stating such we hadn’t even checked out yet, and did not request housekeeping I was very upset and yelling when I was told I was charged $500 for damages (there were none) and even offered a video of proof the night shift front desk were rude and unhelpful I asked them to call the cops so that they could go up and look at the room with me, since the front desk refused to do so The cops could not find damage and felt bad for telling us we had to leave because the teenagers left to run the place at night said so I was in such disbelief in how this was handled I was exhausted at 11:00 at night after a day in cape cod I was met with an attitude and accusations, instead of apologies and solutions This has been the worst hotel stay experience of my entire life! I will never again stay at a Hyatt hotel! We did finally get someone who was apologetic (not any of the hotel management staff but the accounting department) and he refunded the extra money taken out I was offered nothing to rectify the situation, like the amount of the hotel room for the night we were forced to leave All and all this was a nightmare hotel! Good luck to those who choose to stay here!

The room is spacious and roomy It feels inviting and fresh The bathroom is very accommodating and open

The layout of the room makes it feels more like a suite There is no microwave in the room though The complimentary breakfast consists of: eggs, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, sausage, apples, pears, oranges and more The breakfast room is large and accommodates many people The hotel is near the train station (less than 10 minute drive) The pool is under construction now too

Brian Kelley

My room wasn’t clean, the toilet was running all night, and the refrigerator was broken During the same stay, my colleague experienced an issue where they accused him of smoking in his room He’s never smoked and recently went through a drug test and screening for an upcoming surgery

The Hotel was a nice place in 2018-19 and seems to either have new management or just a bunch of people who don’t care I would recommend staying somewhere else If you stay here, take a defensive stance, take photos of your room, and document things during your stay You never know what they’ll accuse you of after you leave

Nicely renovated hotel- I stayed here in 2018 and it was much darker and dreary With the renovations, it’s much brighter and modern looking and feels more inviting as you walk in The rooms have new furniture, including pretty comfortable pull-out sofas

I only had 2 minor issues- the thermostat and the gym The thermostat is the newer “occupancy-sensing” ones, and you only get to change the temperature in a 5 degree range (67-72) The unit was constantly turning on and off about every 45 seconds when set to auto, and eventually I figured out after setting it to run the fan constantly it wouldn’t keep turning on and off However I had to do this 2 or 3 times before it would stay like this; it kept shutting off completelyThe gym is nicely equipped, however the thermostat is set at 72 and it is locked in a cage There’s no fan or any airflow, and it was almost unbearably stuffy once I used the treadmill The room temperature was 74 after 15 minutes of cardio (the heat was actually on)The hot tub was closed, and looked like it had been closed for awhile The evening social was only on Wednesday and was good, but was basically just soup/saladOtherwise, breakfast was good, staff was friendly, it’s 30 seconds from the highway, the bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed my stay

We stayed here for a family wedding for 3 nights (supposed to be 4) Rooms were clean and spacious Our room door lock didn’t work well – resulting in us having a very hard time leaving the room and having safety worries

I understand that these things happen, but the initial reaction from staff was “that’s just how it is” – and we’d have to wait a couple days for it to be fixed Not the Hilton quality service we are used to, especially as Diamond members but given the family wedding location we had no option but to stay We did leave a day earlier than planned and spent more $$ to stay at the Canopy Hilton in Boston which was amazingIf you need to be in this area, the hotel is fine but not exceptional We found the Hilton Garden Inn down the road to have a great restaurant and would likely prefer to stay there if we are ever back in the area

Stayed here last night after exploring in Boston with my kids We are from Maine and decided to stay here Pros: nice area

Can rest easy and feel safe The hotel it’s self is beautiful! Breakfast had a variety and was included in stay Very friendly customer service for check in Alot of restaurants close by Cons: the main reason I stayed here was because they had a hottub which wasn’t working Also when we got to pool a family was having a birthday party in pool room It was so full we had nowhere to even sit We came back later on and my daughter said it was freezing which I know it was because she had goosebumps and was shivering The king studio was a decent size and looked nice untill I found a big black hair in shower and none of us used it also the top of the fridge was so dusty evidently Noone has cleaned it in a while Makes u wonder how throughly rooms are cleaned Also it was nowhere in my reservation online that they would charge me a $250 deposit when I checked it I’ve never paid that much for a deposit it was more than room Luckily I had it in bank but what about people who didn’t and wasn’t told about it Overall we had a decent stay but unsure if we will be back unfortunately

We just finished a 25 week stay here The staff is superb, helpful and SUPER friendly

Breakfast is great with lots of variety Rooms are large with ample storage space Bed was comfy Our little dog Lily was super happy here and the staff was generous with treats and affection – yay Ceta! The only drawback was that over the two weeks, other customers were showing up with their dogs and not picking up their poop Not sure what Residence Inn can do about it but I had to be careful walking in the grass so as to not step in excrement

Clean, modern, and spacious Easy access from the highway Recommend if you are in the area

Only minor gripe is the slow elevators, but obviously that’s not a big deal

The outside amenities are great! The front has a lovely area to eat and hang out The back has a nice balcony to eat as well The full kitchen is great to use – they have everything you could need to cook

Overall the house is lovely and has a great ambianceThe rooms, however, are quite small and uninviting We stayed on the third floor where there was barely room for the bed alone The bed looked like it had not been changed in the last 10 years with a visible dip in the center of the bed It was uncomfortable and the two pillows were also not ideal The bathroom was terribly small – you couldn’t sit without your knees hitting the wall The towels were not clean, there was hair in itOverall, the amenities and the house are amazing – bonus points for included parking! But the room was just not worth the stay

Tori Brewster

The Longwood Inn was exactly what we hoped it would be- charming, exceedingly helpful and communicative staff, and great location- less than 10 minute walk to the T and a bunch of great restaurants in Brookline I really appreciated how the automatically added towels once they saw there were three of us vs just two Our room was warm- and quiet, despite facing the street

I really appreciated how homey the kitchen and living/ main rooms felt Will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Boston!
