We just booked our second visit to Villa Bernese, we loved it in 2014 when we stayed for the Wine Glass Marathon The breakfast was absolutely stunning, and Tony & Marianne are just the most pleasant and kind hosts We stayed in the Jacuzzi suite last time and will be in the Valley View this next visit in October

I can’t wait to see this room!Everything about this place is tasteful and inviting Highly recommended

The best bed and breakfast place We were a bit skeptical going for a b&b in a small town, hesitated even when about to enter the premises Quickly found our fears were unfounded

A very lovely European couple (owners) welcomed us in at the door Served wine on the deck overlooking the valley, a beautiful site The room was well furnished and very comfortable Made friends with the two other couples who were their repeat guests This will be our go to place to stay when we are in Corning

GBK

If we could give Villa Bernese more stars we would An absolutely beautiful setting and home, and Tony and Marianne are the most gracious and considerate hosts you will ever meet The location is a perfect home base for visiting the Corning area and the Finger Lakes

And when you return in the evening you can relax on one of the decks with a glass of wine and enjoy the viewsMarianne is a phenomenal cook, and the breakfast she serves is beyond descriptionMarianne and Tony, we look forward to returning next year and would not even think of staying anywhere other than Villa Bernese Thanks for making our visit so specialGreg and Cindy Kosty

Great experience I stay in a different hotel almost every night and this was by far one of the best experiences Nothing flashy, just nice friendly welcoming staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed, and hot shower

You can tell the owners care about this property by the care they take in making the outside look invitingflowers, no trash And the best comment I can make about this hotel is, they own a vacuum cleaner AND THEY ACTUALLY USE IT IN THEIR HALLWAYS (If you stay in hotels as often as I do, you know what that means) Anyway, I chose this hotel based off of other reviews and I am happy I did This was a great value and I will be back

Bonnie L

This is a basic level accommodation, but one if the cleanest, friendliest places I’ve stayed It’s very quiet & not too far from the highway exit The road set up is a little weird, but after a few wrong turns & GPS help, I got my bearings

The Dennys Restaurant mentioned on the Choice website hotel listing closed during Covid, but there is a local place (Jelly Beans) with good reviews not far, as well as a Bob Evans I’ve stayed in plusher places, but I’d come back here for the value & pleasant treatment

Rebecca Buell

We needed a place to stay overnight in Corning We needed a bed to sleep and this fit the bill perfectly The staff was friendly, including the individual who plowed the parking lot and helped us get our car out of the snow

The bed was comfortable As another reviewer said, don’t let how vacant this place looks turn you off Fulfills that need at a great price

I took a trip this weekend with my girlfriend and we stayed at the RosewoodMy girlfriend picked it so I knew it would be good; imagine my pleasant and somewhat shocked surprise when it turned out to be the single best stayover that I’ve ever had in any of my travelsThe owner is one of the greatest hostesses you can imagine

The breakfasts and their presentation were royal affairs, and the room itself was old-world and unfailingly classy at all timesI could not possibly recommend this place enough If you are even within a proximal distance from Rosewood, treat yourself and STAY THEREYou will not regret one second of it

Lodging at the Gaffer Inn was a pleasant experience The room was very nice and felt larger than what I first expected it to be The location is great and offers easy access to any of the shops and restaurants in downtown Corning

Just a short drive away from places like Watkins Glen and wine country, and of course, the Corning Glass Museum, you won’t be board The bed was comphy and the AC gets cold when it hits it stride For check in, a quick stop at the burger joint below gets you your room key and access code to the upstairs doors The lodging is located above the restaurant Keep that in mind with regards to your luggage There is an indoor staircase located at the front, but there is minimal streetwise parking there, while parking in the back (public but requires payment) gives you access to the rear open air staircase Both are narrow and may be a bit difficult to carry larger suitcases up, there is no elevator Lastly, the only real complaint we had, was the doors to the bathroom and room itself were very unlevel and as such made it extremely difficult to close or open The Bathroom especially I am 200lb 6ft man and even I struggled with the bathroom door lolAll in all, would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others! Enjoy

We arrived to a pleasant reception, Wendy was very personable and gave great recommendations for things to do in the area that eveningThe hotel appeared to be clean, but upon deeper inspection our room hadn’t been thoroughly taken care of from the previous guest There was a dirty, used washcloth still hung up in the shower and there was hair in the bathroom that most definitely wasn’t ours

The breakfast area closes at 10, we were down for breakfast at 9:15 There were no plates, no napkins, no regular coffee, no milk for cereal, no hot foods We had to ask someone who was not the kitchen staff to refill the milk for usWhen checking in, it was noted that we had asked for a feather free room, which we did not get All pillows were feather pillows (those are the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever slept on, not to mention gross) Also upon check in, we were not even offered the welcome bag for Gold Elite member status I’ve never NOT been offered the chocolate and miniature bottles of water and made me question whether I had actually reserved with my accountShortly after checking OUT, my husband received a notification for a SECOND reservation in his name Neither one of us made a reservation for a second night and it was especially alarming since the first reservation was under MY name It mysteriously canceled itself but shows up as a reservation that we made and then canceled It made us wonder if we were going to be double charged (so far no, thank goodness) We don’t know who made this reservation or how but the email came at 2:22 when we were well on our way home This is NOT okWhile the staff seemed pleasant enough, I don’t think we will be staying here again We try to stay in exclusively Marriott Bonvoy hotels but I must say that I was very disappointed in the lack of amenities and attention to detail we are used to from the brand at this particular location

Bill Russo

When we we arrived, we were grated by an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff Totally new to the area, we had one day to find an appartment for a 2 year temporary relocation for my son The young lady behind the desk (I think her name is Avery or Aubery) recommended a new complex in Corning

It was exactly what we were looking for After a full day of exploring the area, we returned, exhausted, to the hotel and 10 hours later, she was still hard at work and pleaseant as ever The room was great and the lobby amenities were as well A well deserved 5 stars

Brittany Edic

We’ve stayed here plenty of times and have never had any issues or complaints Always clean rooms and comfy beds Hallways are quiet

It can be tricky making your way through the parking lot your first time here-it’s a strange layout because of the shared lot with the other hotel and the restaurant, but isnt an issue once you figure it out I would highly recommend staying here!

I’m giving this hotel 5 stars because I’ve stayed here several times over the last 4-5 years and it has never disappointed me The staff is friendly The rooms are clean

Specifically the bathroom is always clean, very important to me The beds and sheets are clean and comfortable I never have issues with too much noise or anything disturbing my stay And the breakfast is always good I will likely stay here whenever I’m in the area

Jules B

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights Pros: great location close to many restaurants and the hwy The room was clean and the bed was comfortable

Most of the staff was fairly pleasant Cons: the air conditioning is extremely high! There is no reason why they’d need to keep the hotel so cold The unit in our room was also broken and never shut off The hotel was fully booked, knowing this they were not prepared The breakfast 3 mornings in a row were out of food whether it was toast, bagels, yogurt Coffee was either cold or empty Wifi was horrible It worked in our room only if you stood by the door It was mentioned to the gentleman at the counter but was told that it was slow because so many people were using it If they are aware there is an issue just say so Many people complained about it while we were there Please improve, these are all easy things to fix!

Amy Ross

When we arrived we advised we were told we could pay cash The young girl was complaining to me why that other employee should not have told me that She then said she had to call her manager

I heard the whole conversation and heard her say I believe her but I am not sure why the other employee would say that We then came to our room It was very old, and the bed was lumpy We asked for more towels and toilet paper for the room and the same girl sighed as I was bothering her We got a fair night sleep We went to get coffee in the morning and it was ice cold I would not recommend this hotel Sadly there is other hotels on the same exit which looked more modern and they were the same price

When I was in town my stay was very delightful I encountered 2 employees here, Stephanie with my late arrival and Ashley at checkout Both extremely nice and courteous

I wanted something different for breakfast and was recommended a nice bakery on market street I believe laurabelles yes very nice compared to the other! Everything was very clean, room was nice Even though it was extremely cold during our time here, the room stayed nicely warm Will plan to stay here again when I visit my parents in March

My husband set up the stay and inform the hotel that it was our 13th anniversary on new year eve They immediately greeted us with happy anniversary, happy new years, gift bags with snacks and wine This was so special and extremely sweet of the hotel

The front desk ladies were very helpful and although their pool was out of service they were able to connect with another hotel close by who allowed us to come by for a night swim The room was wonderful We got a room with a king size bed, so much room and also a couch The bed was so comfortable It was a very nice and relaxing stay Warm breakfast and coffee in the morning We will definitely be recommending this to our friends and family and highly consider coming back Thank you for wonderful service

Wonderful hotel and location The rooms are well appointed and modern I really appreciated the attention to detail such as window blinds that black out, extra condiments for coffee, comfy couch with a small table which can be used to eat or work, extra large work table with a comfortable chair, plenty of towels, large storage space, walk-in shower

Our room overlooked the River and the view was amazing The Hotel is conveniently located near the downtown and is close to the Market ST that has several good restaurants

Awesome place! Quiet and close to restaurants and entertainment It’s my bf birthday and requested a quiet room for it and not only did I get this, they got him a birthday card and a gift bag full of goodie’s! So amazing and unexpected love they went above and beyond! Thank You! Clean room comfy beds(they are firm) Definitely will come here again if I am ever in the area! It’s the first night of the two days here and usually I wouldn’t leave a review this early but it’s spectacular

Edit; super quiet all weekend loved it! Thanks to the bartender who stuck around to give us a few birthday drinks we so needed them!

guppyheaven

Really clean and nicely designed hotel in downtown Corning yet our room had a view of river I couldn’t be more conveniently located to the Corning museum of Glass which was just two blocks away Many great restaurants exist in the area

If you’re thinking Corning is too far away don’t because the museum is a full day and the surrounding area is pretty to drive in

We were allowed to check in early which is always appreciated!! The front desk person was extremely friendly, kind and welcoming That starts off your stay on the right foot!! We reserved 4 rooms and requested them together and that was done The rooms were nice, clean and had nice accommodations like a fridge, microwave, iron and hair dryer

Only room complaint would be our bed It was rock hard! All 4 rooms were king size beds and the other 3 rooms didn’t have the problem we did with our bed We didn’t say anything and one by one as our friends stopped by our room and plopped or took a seat on our bed, each made a comment about the hardnessWe stopped in at the hotel bar and used the hot tub twice There’s also an indoor pool and gymWe were there to visit wineries and Watkins Glen When I called the hotel, the person that answered said they were close by It ended up being a 25 minute trip each way My fault for not double checking, but it definitely became a pain of a drive by the end of the weekendSince 3 out of the 4 rooms were absolutely great and the location was my fault, definitely a nice place to stay, with nice amenities and awesome staff!

Anthony

To be clear I didn’t actually stay here I’m a Hilton Diamond member and initially booked this hotel for 4 nights 3 days before, my work switched me to a different project so I had to cancel and booked another Hilton property elsewhere

Turns out I was charged by this property for 1 night even though I didn’t stay there Apparently for some reason I had to cancel outside of the 3 day window and by the time my travel actually canceled it, it was 2 days out After attempting to call and explain the situation AND with me being a Diamond member they refused to credit the charge Finally after calling Hilton I was told the charge would be reimbursed yet after more than a week I still have not received it Again I had to call Hilton Hilton has been helpful but in my 10 years of traveling I’ve never had a hotel give me such a hard time Most hotels give me no issues if I cancel same day due to my loyalty I absolutely will never book this hotel and have passed word to my company in hopes of getting them “blacklisted”

Arlene Ordway

So let me just start off by saying, the staff is AMAZING!!! They went above and beyond to accommodate my husband and I on our stay, but one place needs upgraded super bad We may have gotten a total of 4 hours of sleep and we are both so sore The whirlpool bath was nice, but the water went cold on us pretty fast

We stay here at least once a year, maybe it’s because we have gotten older, but we are just sooooo sore

Items not returned by house keeping staff Checked out if the room just to realize an hour later things were left in drawer I told the manager exactly what items where left in the room and that I can come pick it up right away

She told me housekeeping never found it How can that be? A new expensive dress and a few other items disappeared? Better hotels around that won’t steal

This hotel was pretty great The breakfast is less grotesque than most Marriotts This is in a big parking lot

Side note: Marriotts need to stop leaving breakfast beverages out in the open all day and using primitive measures to prevent people from getting them It’s more of a passive-aggressive gesture to remind me that I’m not really “at home” rather than a way to save stock By the way, the lock on the milk fridge is faultyYours truly,The Marriott Connoisseur
