The hallway carpet looks Iike it hasn’t been vacuumed for weeks, floor in the elevator was grossly dirty, housekeeping knocked then opened the door to come inside & woke us up @ 9:30 am-we had the do not disturb sign on our door, the sunday front desk woman charged our room to my sisters cc when we were going to split the charges, she didn’t listen to my complaints & rudely told me the receipt was for the room “obviously” when I asked what the receipt was for The American flag should be replaced with a flag that it not torn & ratty looking I will say the room was quiet & the bed was comfy

Will not stay there again

We picked this hotel specifically for the children’s wading pool, and I was so it excited for my little fish to see it and swim He loves water When we arrived Lisa at the front desk, was unable to pull up our reservation

I had booked online, so I went out to get my phone for the confirmation number My heart sunk, when I realized I booked it for the wrong date I had booked it for the day I made it, instead of that following Saturday Lisa was able to confirm I wasn’t charged for my original booking mistake, but she was actually able to get me a room for that night Orginally, I had requested 2 queens, unfortunately they did not have that available but they had a king suite It didn’t matter, I would have taken anything We could have easily returned home that evening but we really wanted to take advantage of the pool We were happy with our stay Our room was good My son loved the pool Staff was great Especially Lisa!

Half the hotel has been renovated and the other half has not They try to stick everyone in the non renovated half

I’m guessing to preserve the renovationsThe staff is rude and not very helpful And don’t think being a diamond member makes a difference I am and still got horrible serviceNo air conditioning in the halls (expect to sweat on hot days waiting for the elevator, which takes forever), ice machines not working, gym had no water and the property hasn’t been cleaned in forever The floors are filthy!Wrote an email to the manager and never got a response Pretty bad!

Doug Moore

Glenn O’Connell the manager runs a tight ship there! Liz and Mike also made our stay perfectThe staff were friendly and accomodating, the rooms were spacious and clean, the breakfast buffet was delicious, and the hotel lobby was a great location for taking some pictures for our family reunionWhen my relatives from around the country saw how nice our hotel was they checked out of their hotel rooms at another hotel and came to the West Des Moines Hilton Garden Inn

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of several eateries and the mallKeep up the good work Team Glenn helped make our family reunion perfect We had flowen in from all 4 corners of the USA for this event and we couldn’t be happier with our stayIn other words: Well done and thank you!

Wonderful! We stayed for the past three nights and just had a great time The staff was very accommodating and friendly The breakfast was amazing, a very nice hot breakfast 🙂 We were there with a baseball team for state tournament and it was just a great experience for everyone

The rooms were clean (a bit small) but clean! The beds are very comfortable and this was just a great experience overall I would definitely recommend!

Esther Johnson

The place was the cleanest of any hotels that I have slept in for years! We walked into our room and were met with a wonderful fresh smell! The room was quiet and we slept the best we have ever slept on the first night at a new place/bed The breakfast was very good The hostess did a wonderful job of keeping things supplied and counters wiped clean

Thank you so much!

I am quite disappointed with my stay at this hotel, the staff was amazing but my review is regarding the hotel and lack of amenities itself I generally stay at the Hampton Inn on Mills Civic and there are many differences This hotel does not allow you to change the input on the TV (I usually bring a fire stick to watch the shows my kids and I like and my kids like to play their Nintendo switch) they literally locked the menu so you are forced to purchase movies and shows, anything worth watching you have to pay for

This hotel also does not have a microwave in the room, breakfast is also less robust than the one on Mills Civic, the rooms are smaller and the water does not get very hot in the shower I definitely will not stay at this hotel again and will stick with the Hampton Inn I am used to on Mills Civic, I just hope these changes were not a corporate initiative negatively impacting this whole chain of hotels

Nice hotel Reasonable rate Friendly check-in person

Good location Near several restaurants and some shoppingIf it matters to you, there is no hot tub Workout center looked nice; I didn’t use itI would stay here againReally liked that the decaf coffee gave three choices in strength I think the regular did too(I rarely give a five star as I see that as exceptional)

We had to go to a funeral in Des Moines and this is what we chose It was quite at night and it had restaurants across the street The room was very nice and the pool area was nice sized for the kido’s and adults to use at the same time

The only thing I was a little unhappy with was the breakfast the next morning Not much available at first and it was all cold I arrived about 10 minutes after my husband and brother-in -law, and they were sitting and eating a bananna and cold cereal because the eggs were ice cold A little later they had cheese omelets available which were good They also didn’t have decaf coffee available which is all I can drink It sure would have tasted good with my eggs

Beautiful lobby and nice front desk staff Rooms were roomy and comfortable Very clean

Beds were comfy Bathroom was beautiful and we loved the shower AC worked ok until the morning we were checking out Ice maker was convenient Nice location with great shopping nearby Bar was spendy Laundry room needs to be bigger 1 washer and 1 dryer for a hotel this large is not accommodating at all Pool was great The kids loved it

Laura Young

I’d recommend against staying here I reserved a king suite for 3 guest to stay with m club accessBE AWARE!!!!! The sofas are NOT pull out beds

The M club is closed on the weekends Also they will only give you two breakfast vouchers no matter how many people are stayingThe WiFi says it’s going to charge you which is crazy for a hotelThe room was very nice and reasonably clean But I’m never coming back

Tom Nurre

This hotel failed at EVEY opportunity to give good customer service I called the hotel on Wednesday to cancel our Friday night stay but still wanted keep our Saturday reservation This was group rate for a sports team and the assistant manager stated he couldn’t cancel my Friday stay stating that according to the team contract it states changes must be made at least 3 days before the first night, 3 days! I asked him to send me a copy of the agreement and in that agreement there was NO wording stating 3 or even 1 day was required to make a change

I was forwarded to the sales manager to discuss this situation and after much discussion she stated she could change it but I would have to pay $229 + tax for the Saturday night stay when the online rate for this hotel was listed at $169, clearly gouging me She stated $229 is the going rate in the area as there are many activities going on in the DesMoines area, keep in mind that this is not a high end hotel Spoke again with the assistant manager and he finally gave me the online rate for a 1 night stay THEN we checked into the hotel on Saturday and they stated they were having plumbing issues and couldn’t give us our original 2 bed reservation and put us in a 1 bed with a pull out Is this a coincidence? Who knows but am VERY disappointed in the management, the sales manager and this hotel Beware

I’m in between on if this deserves the full 2 stars! The staff were excellent, friendly, and attentive, but busy They do deserve the full 5 stars However, the rooms/amenities do not

I’ve stayed in “discount” hotel chains that are nicer/cleaner than the Stoney Creek was First the room – we just had a basic king size room, they were spacious The bed was comfortable, and the pillows/linens were too However, the cleanliness of the rooms was lacking Our comforter had a couple stains on it The main garbage can still had some papers in it, and our bathroom had crumbs in the toilet paper dispenser area Not to mention we only had 2 towels in our bathroom upon check-in With that said, we simply needed a place to sleep and we were able to do that The walls are pretty thin, and the hotel was packed The pool area was simply disgusting There were so many people in that area, and it was absolutely freezing cold That might be fun in the summer but a cold Iowa spring and it wasn’t conducive to swimming Which made it so that the hot tub area was packed of children, and less than bathwater warm I spent all of 5 minutes in the area and it was more than enough, my husband and son stayed awhile longer but my son froze the entire time I’ll assume it’s a bit warmer when the outdoor (connected pool) can be utilized But they should note that the indoor pool isn’t heated for those staying in the winter/colder time of the year The halls were outdated, and dark, but the hotel was large The breakfast was decent They had a few options, and they kept it clean despite how busy the hotel was All in all, it’s definitely a bit more run down and pricey than other hotels in the area

Bridgette Wiggins

After a long day of travel we were greeted with a warm and welcoming smile Despite a hiccup beyond her control, the woman at the front desk was patient, understanding and worked diligently to help us to get checked in The hotel itself is excellent

Lovely accommodations and a clean room were a welcome respite for us weary travelers We will make a point to come back here Highly recommended

Kayla Van Gorp

We booked 2 nights in one of the family suites with a bunkbed! The room was great, exactly as pictured on the website Very clean and the kids loved the bunkbed! The pool looked cooler online than it was in person It was also very small compared to what I was expecting based on pictures

The whirlpool was also down for our whole stay which was disappointingThe breakfast setup was very nice, something different each morning we were there There was an automatic pancake maker which was very neat and actually very tastyWe would definitely stay here again!

I was greeted with friendly staff The facilities are updated Staff are not masked which concerns me

I cannot tell who works here as they aren’t dressed any different than anyone else in the hotel The first room I was assigned to smelled like sulfur and the staff gladly moved me to another room which was better I echo what another reviewer shared about not being able to control the fan speed in the room Breakfast is pretty good, though it wasn’t refreshed quick enough and staff shared they weren’t prepared for so many people Sunday morning Again, I’m concerned that staff aren’t wearing masks, especially by the food

D H

We arrived at 4, an hour after we were supposed to be able to check in There were no clean rooms We sat in the lobby, which was full of other guests waiting to get in, for an hour and a half

The host told us she was sorry that they didn’t have the room we had booked clean, but could give us another one It was a smaller room and we did not receive any discount I paid $185 for that room Also, there were no clean towels for the pool, because there wasn’t anyone there to do laundry When I checked out, I didn’t get a receipt email or paper Will not be staying here again

Great little hotel Rooms were very clean and tidy The faucet was loose in the bathroom but everything else was nice

The pool is very large with lots of windows for some nice light The location was a bit confusing as there are two hotels right next to each other The tall sign looks like it is for the adjacent hotel There are two restaurants within walking distance The room came with three sets of towels so if you’re traveling with more than that you’ll have to ask for more towels

Thomas Slater

It was kind of gross

without getting into too much detail The toilet seat was not cleaned (let’s just say that) The table was sticky with I’m not sure what Pillows and sheets were stuffed into drawers that wouldn’t stay shut Due to the number of people in our room, we’d requested a pull-out bed with additional linens We got neither The room itself was in some sort of remodeling purgatory, and smelled of a musty basement and an old ash tray It may have been tolerable had they’re not been 1,372 kids running up and down the halls day and night Oh, did I mention the TWO times someone though it funny to pull the fire alarm at 12:45am and again at 2:15am? Yeah, good times When I tried calling to the front desk to convey our concerns, no one answered When we went down to the front desk to inquire about a different room, no one was there I only saw one young lady running around doing everything for the entire hotel the entire length of our stay She’s a saintshe deserves better Do better, Country Inn Waste Of Money

Dale and Connie Jo Toyne

Absolutely loved our room, the staff and the atmosphere I see people complaining about dated furniture; they looked quaint, quirky, and wonderfully eclectic to me The bed was the best one we had in our week of travel

The pool clean Bathroom towels thick I will take slightly off color patchwork in exchange for the thick towels We will definitely be back If you want an officious atmosphere with sterile surroundings lacking in character, and a snooty staff, go elsewhere

Let me start by saying the hotel itself is pretty nice, we just had a pretty terrible experienceWe had to wait 45 minutes after arriving at the desk to actually check into our room Apparently they didn’t have any of the room type we reserved clean and ready (at 10 pm)

We said we would be fine with whatever, but apparently the lady at the front desk couldn’t find our same rate in a different room Instead of calling the manager to get an override code or something (it seemed in a discussion with a co-worker the manager is mean and didn’t want to be bothered) they elected to make us wait 30 minutes while the room was cleanedFinally, after about 45 minutes we were in our room (with a free bottle of water), and the room was nice Spacious, clean, and the bed is super soft (There is a lot of mold in the bathroom ceiling, but the rest of it seems very new and well kept) THEN at 2pm we woke up to someone using a key to try and enter our room! We had the deadbolt and slider lock on, thankfully, but what in the world? In the morning, I couldn’t get the key to work after breakfast (which is very good with lots of options) My guess is they entered something into the system wrong and tried to give someone else our roomI’m usually very pleased with Marriott hotels, but this stay was dismal Staff were nice, but obviously undertrained (if they tried to give away our room and couldn’t get it for us in the first place), and Marriott definitely needs to hire more housekeeping staff if they can’t have rooms ready at 10 at night I’m glad our next stay is at a Hilton hotel

Mitch Crews

The location was convenient and the staff was very nice The condition of the hotel is where the issues are There’s clearly water damage throughout the hotel, you can see it on the ceiling (starting in the lobby) and smell it through out the building

This unfortunately carried through to our room as well, mold on the ceiling in the bathroom and a mild dew smell in the room It looks like it went through a renovation in the last few years but not a good one I would recommend looking at other options in the area, there’s plenty of better ones in this price range

The Kristler’s

35 stars Not really a “bad” hotel, but not one I’d likely stay at again

Air conditioner had strong moldy smell Room is surface wiped, but not really clean Closet door was off its track was broken Small but many stains on walls, floors, etc Mini fridge is frozen over Low flow toilets barley flush Bones are good, but need major update and cleaning Staff was friendly and area was decent

Pros: The room itself was updated, clean, and comfortable One of the nicer Marriott rooms I’ve stayed in for comparable price range The staff was very friendly at check-in and throughout the stay and plenty of parking

Cons: Hallways and common areas were not that I expect out of Marriott Very dark and poorly lit The walls and doors in the hallways had black scuff marks (very noticeable when all the doors and trim are white) all over the place; a little Magic Eraser can go a long ways Aside from the waffle station, the breakfast looked unappetizing (egg whites seemingly swimming in egg juice) and off-colored breakfast sausage

Travis Olives

Newish Marriott Shares the edge of a parking lot with a local mallOverall, clean and well-kempt

Our room – 2 bedroom suite with kitchenette – was fineA few things that we liked: easy checkin Quiet location Quite clean The suite itself was set up excellently for our family of 6 Breakfast was adequate with standard prefab hire food, but don’t expect more than that Hearty selection of milks, soy milks of varied kinds (chocolate, skim, 2%, etc)A few things that were lacking: the heat had clearly not been on, and the room was in the high 50s to low 60s (early march) when we arrived, and since we arrived late in the evening, this made bedtime hard for the kids They were cold Front desk staff readily brought an extra blanket, but it wasn’t too welcoming A light was out on the ceiling, a bit irritating but no big deal TVs had obviously been screwed around with (bolted to the tables, which felt a bit off) and I spent 10 minutes futzing with the wiring to make the cable work Finally, the bathroom was huge, which was great (maybe an ADA room that I didn’t realize?) but peeling paint and a moderately good shower headNo huge downer staying here but overall will probably look elsewhere next time we cruise through from Minneapolis

Debbie Dahl

This hotel is still using covid as an excuse not to service your rooms No rugs in the bathrooms and staff doesn’t make beds or replace towels Standard mediocre breakfast

Good Location Paying $250 per night for a room seems like some service should be included They don’t even replace toilet paper And the front desk doesn’t answer their phone This is like camping out Please note that their description claims that they refresh your room every day including towel changes and making your bed Not true VERY Cheap

24hr pool, complimentary social hours, on top of their complimentary breakfasts STAY HERE!! They have the best front desk concierge, Michelle I’ve recommended this place to my friends and family already

The suite was very spacious for my family of 4 A big THANK YOU to Michelle for all the accommodations and service she provided throughout our stay Everyone enjoyed the pool It would’ve ranked 5/5 if the hot tub wasn’t working Next time

Stargazer

The hotel is conveniently located and the front desk clerk was polite Unfortunately, he gave us a key card for someone else’s room that was already occupied So you can imagine the surprise when we open the door and there was a family watching television, sitting on the couch

They were incredibly understanding, surprisingly We went right back to the front desk and they corrected the situation and gave us a free upgrade This is just a note of caution that you should always lock both locks on your hotel room door, just to be safeThe fridge and toilet were very loud, for some reason The TV remote in the bedroom wouldn’t control power or volume Small issues but make a difference The continental breakfast wasn’t available as of 7:15, so not sure what happened thereAll in all, it’s a comfortable place with decent amenities, but for the amount we paid and the other issues, probably would not return

Callie D

Overall very nice and clean hotel The 24 hour pool was very convenient Loved the breakfast plenty of choices

My only complaint is that the walls are thin I woke up at 12:30 at night to hear a very loud sexual session going on Lots of banging on the wall and moaning I don’t think beds should share the same wall in hotels for this reason

Rooms were clean and nice We thought they had continental breakfast, but they did not There is a restaurant in the hotel that served a buffet breakfast

Food was not real good, hashbrowns were not completely cooked, bacon was over cooked Price was high for the meal Service was very good in both the restaurant and hotel They also did not have a microwave we could use Put on the robe they furnished and my husband’s had a container of chew in the pocket All in all not the best but not the worst stay either

Update to my previous 1 star rating This was a lovely hotel; clean, new, well maintained After having a not so good customer service experience I was asked to call them via an email and they finally after 2 weeks were able to offer over half off our stay ( after already paying for a night that we missed booked)

Satisfied but wish it would not have taken going out of my way to write a review

The hotel was small but very cozy The room I had was nice The best were comfortable and there was enough space

Though I had the room to myself, I feel like it could easily be a good room for a small family of three or fourA Hy-Vee grocery store was down the street along with several fast food restaurants within the same parking lot So there’s a few choices for foodThey offer breakfast, however I didn’t stay for breakfast since I had a business meeting to attend to If I was in the area again, I would probably stay here again

Booked months in advance and within the window for a wedding block discount, we were initially told the block “couldn’t be found” when we booked the room, but then came to find out it did upon check in Management denied any accommodation Oh well, right? Wrong

Both nights the smoke detector’s high pitched low battery beeping prevented me from sleeping During the first night they checked on the smoke alarm and I was informed I can’t switch rooms but maintenance would be in to fix it the next day It stopped during the next day but started again just in time for bed the next night Obviously maintenance didn’t come in to fix it The door to the room is broken and we were told you have to jiggle the handle a specific way to open it They know about it but still book the room The daytime front desk clerk who helped us was the only good part of the stay, she was a sweetheart Poor management, lied to about the wedding block, no accommodations, trashy rooms – it’s highly recommended you stay elsewhere There are plenty of other hotels in the area

The room was nice and clean Glad I travel with my own shampoo and conditioner because they have full size pump bottles that anyone can open and tamper with The staff was rude and unpleasant which made it a horrible stay

There were two staff members behind the desk (I’m assuming the lady was staff because she didn’t have on a uniform or name tag) and we had to ask them to make more breakfast because there was nothing there A big golfing group was there and had gobbled it up quick, which they should have anticipated When we asked for food they complained that it was just them and the third person hadn’t shown up How is that my problem? I could understand if there was only one person but there was two When we checked out the lady in no uniform or name tag was friendly till we said we wanted a receipt then the exasperatedly helped us Nice hotel horrible staff

My husband and I were traveling from CT to CA and this was one of our stops along the way This is by far the best place we have stayed at in a while, even compared to hotels in our old local area Checking in took less than 5 minutes and the front desk staff was super friendly, room was super clean, bed was comfy, they have nice big TVs, a spacious shower and complimentary breakfast! 10/10 would recommend!!

Very nice hotel Had a few moment of confusion trying to identify the hotel as one sign says “Mainstay” and I missed the other sign that said “Sleep Inn” Only weird part for me was the area along the Parkway

Few food places and at 8pm they were closed The area seems too new to have any depth of choices Knowing that, I’d stay here again
