We love staying in rooms with a jacuzzi tub in room Not only did Blue Heron Inn have that, but it also had so much more The view from our room was absolutely stunning! There is anything you could possibly want close

The staff were super friendly, and honestly it felt like being at home Rooms were clean and the entire place just makes you feel comfortable I would not hesitate to stay here again next time in town In fact we have already started talking about a return visit

Melissa Womack

We did our reservation online, after I got a message asking what time we would be arriving When we arrived the room was read and the staff was very friendly Over all the room was clean, cloud use a good dusting would not pass a white glove for sure but as far as bed sheets, bathroom and floors it was clean

We had a suite with a lake view The jet tub was amazing personally my favorite after a 8 hour road trip It was very relaxing and cleanThe view from the room balcony was relaxing The only down fall was there were a lot of spiders on the balcony Besides that it was nice to sit outside and relax When it comes to sleeping the bed was soft I loved it but my fiancé didn’t But he still slept good Very cute and not a lot of noise at night Breakfast was good and check is at noon We come up often to La porte and have stayed at almost all the hotels in the area and by far this is the best one We are planning to come up in Dec and already booked a room hereI will note it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like the newer hotels across the street but for us it was well worth the money

Emily Gosselin

We stayed here after visiting Indiana Dunes National Park and we are so happy we didThe Inn has an older feel to it and as others have mentioned, it could use an update in areas but overall the Blue Heron is incredibly clean and everyone on staff is so friendly that you feel like you are at home We have never stayed at a place where our dogs were so welcomed and that made a world of difference to us

Also, the big perk is that it’s right on the water and if you want to take a walk to get some fresh air, there’s a nice little park where you can sit by the water right next door and watch the sun set or you can cross the street, walk a block and take the Chessie trailThere’s a distinct unique charm to this place and my husband and I hope to visit it again soon

Not your cookie-cutter hotel chain here Rustic, more of a homey feel Our room was extremely quiet – no noise from the floor above or adjoining rooms

Decent sized pool as well as a sauna Good assortment at complimentary breakfast Hotel is tucked away in a scenic, wooded residential area A lot better than being situated next to a busy interstate highway Really, good value for the money Would stay again in a heartbeat

Shawna Ard

We absolutely love everything about this place Clean, good breakfast, great view, warm heated pool and friendly staff The only thing I would change is enforcing the rules posted by the pool especially the kids out by 9 and adult time after

We tried going to the pool yesterday wasn’t even packed but the few kids were jumping screaming water all over the place Which I get I’m a mom Just be nice to actually enjoy the pool without all the extra like the signs state in the pool area but is not enforced We can’t wait for our next stay 🙂🙂 Oh the jacuzzi tub rooms amazing ❤️❤️

Honest review here! We ended up killing about 7 roaches total throughout our stay Maybe we just had a bad room One of which was IN our bed that I had been sleeping with

I don’t usually leave reviews but thought it was worth mentioning Especially since I was paranoid after that checking the bed every night (I’m pregnant so extra paranoid) We just stayed here for a week It is a really cute and quaint place But definitely room for potential No one wants to sleep with roaches in their bed 🙁 but staff was nice Definitely dated but we like that aspect about the lodges we stay at There’s a pizza place next door It’s in a wooded area so the balcony out back was beautiful…just no chairs to sit on and enjoy it which was a bummer Breakfast wasn’t anything great (sausage and pastries…one day there was eggs) and kind of got less options as the week went along but it’s complimentary so not complaining! Can’t beat the price and we got our room last minute Just won’t be coming back unfortunately

This hotel was disgusting upon arrival The toilet seat had spots of what looked to be urine on it The shower had black hair on the floor

The comforter also had hair under the folded area up top I was instantly turned off and felt like I shouldn’t even let my 10 month old be on the floor There was rust debris on the side tables of the bed and the TV stand everything in the room was old and dated I was very dissatisfied and disappointed I was glad that we were only staying one night I would have not been able to be comfortable here any longer than that

Loni Flowers

This was a very nice place to stay Rooms where clean, smelled nice No complaints there

I loved that they had lemon water at the entrance! The continental breakfast was so good! I was pleasantly surprised! The lady that was working the breakfast was so nice and pleasant They had WAFFLES! We will be staying there again The price was a bit much, but I think it was because of an event that was going on I’m hoping it comes down A very nice place to stay! I recommend 👌

Mike Weaver

I had to stay here for a week for a class, and on the second night I backed my truck up to far and got stuck in the trench I really appreciate how above and beyond the Manger went to help me out and made sure I was able to continue my school

The rooms are fantastic The food was amazing, and all of the staff members were very hospitable and polite I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling, as I will be only using this hotel in the future

Carmen’s Critiques

Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the location of this lodge It is very romantic dark lighting in the lounge and the cavatappi pasta sauce was literally the best sauce I have ever had We came on a Monday night and reservations were not needed, but we did hear that the lodge was fully booked

It is a beautiful property with loads of amenities and the lodge itself is chic rustic!

alexis harris

The room was spacious and the bed was amazing! There was a little game nook on our floor It was a very cozy place There was a ceiling leak in the hall with a bucket beneath it

that wasn’t awesome The drive up the the lodge was over the river and through the woods The ponds/lake in the woods around the lodge looked murky, but we did also visit in an April that was still basically winter All in all, a nice stay

Great staff Friendly and helpful Enjoyed having the bikes to ride as well as the beach chairs, umbrella, and beach towels

The Inn is just a quick 5 minutes to the beach It is a public beach but it wasn’t very crowed either day we were thereWe stayed in the Chardonnay Room Good size room with a couple of comfortable chairs The pillows were a bit hard for our taste The bath room is small but that is expected for an older buildingThe garden area is very nice We got lunch at The Whistlestop right up the street and ate outside at the InnBreakfast was solid I really liked the peach smoothie we had on day 2The Inn is very convenient to New Buffalo and St Joseph but into as busy as both of those towns We’d comeback stay again

A very sweet hidden gem of a bed and breakfast! Very cozy location amidst a residential area right off the beach Short walk to the water We felt very welcomed and taken care of by Maryanne and Lori, we loved the cookies and popcorn treats they had for all the guests, as well as the wine social hour where we met a few other people also staying at the inn

Amazing breakfast as well And the fireplace in our rooms – wow! Thank you for a great stay we will be back 💜

Joe Ballerini

The Inn at Union Pier is in a word, is awesome! Clean, welcoming, relaxing and the most friendly owner and associates I have ever encountered Our weekend stay was in late February, so we got to experience the unique antique Swedish ceramic stoves Breakfast was good and “happy hour” was fun as we enjoyed local Michigan wines and shared our daily activities with other guests

The walk to the shoreline is a 5 minute walk We have found our weekend getaway, and will definitely return

This is our 2nd time staying here and we loved it just as much as last year The new stairs to the private beach is a great plus and the new mattresses were so comfy! The old charm of the building is a great way to disconnect and relax The frog pond in the back is one of our favorite ways to enjoy the evening

The rooms are clean and the grounds are well maintained The staff is so friendly and welcoming The large front porch lined with rocking chairs makes for a nice relaxing touch We loved it so much we are already booked for our stay next year!

Just came back from a mini vacation at the Lakeside Inn Beautiful vintage inn feels like the setting of an Agatha Christie novel Lots of architectural and decor eye candy

A great place to sit and read, walk, visit and contemplate the beauty of Lake Michigan Staff lovely Not for those expecting all the extras of an ultra luxury hotel Definitely from another time and wonderful for it Simple Quiet Lovely

Larry Cook

Have stayed multiple times here and at their sister location; Gordon Beach Inn Both locations have an old school charm, have always been clean, and reasonably priced Both are in close proximity to Lake Michigan

Staff are always friendly and accommodating Both locations have pet friendly rooms which make it even easier if you’re traveling with dogs Some rooms are larger than others, so read each room description before you make your reservation It’s a nice retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of today’s world Enjoy the peace and quiet!

Decided to return for our anniversary after a couple years and still find it a very nice place to stay Staff is very accommodating and helpful Would have been 5 stars but for a plumbing issue related to renovations

the only issue we’ve ever had since staying here over the years Management addressed things to our satisfaction and we would not hesitate to return

Linda Oberg

We stayed this last Sunday and Monday night The rooms were very clean Each room has a patio or balcony facing the marina

We ate breakfast and dinner there During the week the eat in area of restaurant is closed, but you can order from the menu for pick up and eat in your room The food was very good Less than a mile walk to the beach and to restaurants I do think the rooms are a little over-priced, but you are paying for the view & location

Kristin Kerrigan

This resort salvaged a birthday trip & made it an absolutely wonderful 3 day stay! From being able to get a room day of arrival, to the beautiful marina views this resort did not disappointThe coffee shop & restaurant on the property were convenient & delicious The pool was a wonderful accommodation that we used everyday (towels provided)

This resort is about a 15 minute walk to the main strip for food, drinks & entertainment It is also a short drive from some of the main wineries/breweries in MichiganI am looking forward to coming back again soon!

Lakeside Cabins Resort is amazing! There was so much for our kids to do The weekend activities (archery, arts and crafts) were a nice treat Having basketball, volleyball, a large field to play in, plus the lake with kayaks and paddle boards were perfect for our family!! We didn’t even leave the resort until our second full day there

The only negative would be that the hiking trail was too overgrown to go for a hike Everything else about the cabin and the resort were absolutely amazing!

Kyle Wilson

Cabin resort geared towards kids/families Fishing, beach, kayaks, wake boards, two swimming pools, shuffle board, playground, craft opportunities for kids, archery, basketball, volleyball, etc Our cabin had 3 mattresses, a full bathroom, and a full kitchen with fridge, microwave, and oven/stove

The porch was enclosed and there was a nice fire pit in the backyard behind the cabin The decor was very outdated and the cabins inside felt more trailer homes, but it’s a massive upgrade compared to sleeping in tents like we often do Its just an observation We appreciated the amenities very much and the staff were all very kind and helpful The kids enjoyed the experience

Lauren Miller

kathleen miller actually – had a great time at the resort, perfect for families and young kids willlove it! 7 and 9 year old grandsons had a great time fishing, kayaking, paddleboards, basketball and pools! lots of options for activitiesthe resort is well-taken care of and responsive when there were issues ( locked out of cabin and broken toilet handle ) cabins are basic but comfy and love the screen porches

other patrons were friendly and respectful after hours and it’s close to lots of restaurants and wineries as well

BEAUTIFUL place Had everything we needed; stove, fridge, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, and a roomy living room with a nice dining table The best part was the view, we were right down the stairs and had a lovely view of the beach and lake

Plus there’s a grill right outside and they keep the area very clean! Also if you’re looking for a good place to eat or get groceries, it’s all super close I cannot wait to come back here!

The mood of this hotel is definitely low key and chic From the moment I walked into the lobby I felt welcomed and relaxed The hunter green paint paired with the black and white wall art instantly made me feel like there was a good time to be had

I did not want to leave the space This is the first place that I’ve stayed where the room looks better than the photos online Shout out to the interior designer The staff was very attentive and committed to us enjoying our stay Thanks to Ashley for always answering our questions and recommending cool places to experience Michigan

Love this place! Perfect, easy getaway from Chicago for couples We have been here several times, both before and after their renovation Love the details of the new renovation, rooms are well decorated and clean

When we stay we always eat at the restaurant, the ravioli and salmon are great and the restaurant has a nice vibe My favorite thing hands down is the free breakfast basket We always have a great time here Highly recommend!

Absolutely the best experience! We went for a little getaway from Chicago and we had the most wonderful experience! The kayaking was a lot of fun, and we also hiked the middle trail! The greenhouse, micro farm, and antique store were all so beautiful and fun to explore! The breakfast (and brownies in the kitchen) was delicious and they accommodated to my lactose intolerant needs! They delivered it to our room and it was beautifully set up The staff members were all so welcoming and friendly We stayed in Silver Maple and the room was designed so well! The jacuzzi tub was perfect for a relaxing weekend

We hope to come back soon and will be recommending Goldberry Woods to everyone 🙂

We had an excellent time, I highly recommend for a couples weekend retreat We celebrated our 8 year anniversary and it was a relaxing and romantic getaway The hosts are nice, the amenities are awesome and the property is beautiful

We hiked around the trails (beginner level), saw animals and the river The breakfast was amazing, the covered pool and jacuzzi so cool! This is also 10 mins from New Buffalo which has great restaurants and the beach We stayed in the Silver Maple room, which has good morning lighting that isn’t harsh when waking up The common spaces are also pleasant and filled with games and plenty of seating area We will be back again!

We had a family reunion at Goldberry Woods and rented the entire inn & barn for our extended family of 18+ people The inn was perfect Every bedroom had an en suite allowing each family to have their own space and there were multiple suites with two sleeping areas that were great for those of us with small children

The place was extremely clean and the hosts were helpful and professional We will be coming back again next year I would highly recommend Goldberry Woods!

Nice and clean Moving across the country and comfort was very important for someone with a bad back and hip dysplasiaThe bed was very comfortable and lived up to the Hilton standard

The bathroom was very small and not quite what I expectedI was expecting a 4 star hotel since that is what it is advertised as, but it definitely is not more than a 3 star in my opinionThat being said it was still a nice, clean and quiet, small hotel

Great place to stay Especially within the last 2 months and became pet friendly which made it even more appealing to us to stay while traveling While visiting 11 national parks in 2 weeks we stayed at many places including Red roofs and super rates but then again you get what you pay for

The Hilton was an amazing place to stay just for comfort and also for being able to sit down with your pet out of secluded restaurant area that is set aside for them and us and have a regular meal and not have to go water out somewhere Definitely found a new places to stay for our next travel adventures

Our family really enjoyed staying at this bed and breakfast Train rooms are adorable and trains go by constantlyIt felt like you were riding on a real train when they go by

You hear them all night but they have earplugs if you need Beautiful lodge with a fireplace so lovely The people that own it are so welcoming and friendly Delicious breakfast, they had it early because we had to leave at 9 They were so accommodating We will be back!

Margaret Sen

So I’m really torn about the reviewCons: trains go through about every 20 minutes Even though there are earplugs, you will hear trains BLOW HORN throughout night

It vibrates the whole room You will not sleepPros: Unique , great for train enthusiasts, can hang out in depot, benches to watch trains, great owners, good breakfast, free parking, fire pit and grill to use, free parking when stay, nice accommodations like a regular hotel Next to a two block Main Street that has food and ice cream parlorSo go for the fun but do not expect to sleepIf you want to rent the depot I can see how that can be greatThe caboose only sleeps two The box car and the upstairs with balcony sleep 4

ArizonaRails

If you’re a railfan who loves the wide variety of trains that roll by, then this is definitely one of the best places to stay at! Located less than a block from Norfolk Southern’s Chicago Line, this is definitely the place for some of the best action that’s out there! Mr Riley is someone you’ll easily get along with, and also gets along with all railfans who gather at this truly special place right in the heart of historic downtown Chesterton I can’t wait for my next trip out there someday again real soon! 😁-AZRails
