What a delightful surprise ! The Ashby Inn is a sweet, charming gem nestled into the Virginia countryside We had booked for lunch even though the menu is limited ,and we were truly very happy with our leisurely lunchOur server greeted us , and was ready to show us our requested table on the terrace but suggested it was a bit chilly ,and offered us apleasant window table inside

What a nice touch to start our meal Good service means such a lot ,and can make all the difference Thank you so much for making us feel comfortableOur lunch ended up being 3 courses ! All absolutely delicious, and so beautifully presented As a cook I truly appreciated and noticed every detail-including all the hard work involved in each step of preparation -so hats off to Chef and his crew ! BRAVO!Our server had just the right balance of being attentive without being intrusive ,or making us feel rushed as we savored every mouthfulWe left feeling happy ! After so long with Covid restrictions it was such a treat !I have never written such an extensive review before but I felt so “at home” at The Ashby Thank you all for a most enjoyable and memorable lunch We will be back !

We stayed at The Ashby Inn last weekend to celebrate my husband’s birthday The setting is so peaceful and beautiful but it is the staff’s attention to ensure a memorable stay that makes The Ashby our favorite Inn and Restaurant My husband has special dietary restrictions, so I called Wendy ahead of time to see if they could accommodate his special needs

Chef Jonathan Martin went above and beyond to prepare a special delicious meal meeting his dietary requirements for both dinner and breakfast From the special meals, to the cozy rooms, to the peaceful setting, we left The Ashby knowing we will be back soon to enjoy their amazing hospitality!

Chris Weller

Stayed in the East Dominion room in the attic of the inn Bathroom was in a separate area which was inconvenient Had we known the bathroom wasn’t in the room, we would have chosen another

No assistance to guests having to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs If you’re going to stay, try the Old Schoolhouse building or the lower level of the inn itself for more room and easier access Breakfast was very well done, in fact it was far better than our dinner at the Ashby the night before Had issues with dinner food quality but those were taken care of appropriately by the manager Service was adequate but food preparation time from the kitchen was far too long We were seated for dinner at 7:15, ordered by 7:30, got our soup by 8:05 but didn’t get our main course until 8:50 There were 10 other diners in the dining area but I wouldn’t have expected that to be an issue to create such a waitGrounds are beautiful, staff is accommodating, buildings are clean, plenty of parking, quiet area, comfortable beds, and a nice sampling of Port wine supplied to each room was a nice touch We’ll be back but will ask to have a larger room on the lower floor and make dinner plans for elsewhere

So impressed! The ladies at check in were very friendly Our room was spacious and had everything we needed The heat/air unit was not noisy like other hotels I’ve stayed at but similar to a fan I sleep with at home

The bed, sheets and pillows were very comfortable The shower was roomy I also loved the bright blue and green decor A couple things that could have made it a 5 star was more space on the bathroom sink counter and if the air in the room didn’t seem damp/humid But I would stay here again

Amber

I was hesitant at first about booking a room Most La Quinta Inns I have stayed at were older and needed much updating The hotel is really nice

Great breakfast area and lobby Very up to date Nice gym and inside pool Our room was spacious We stayed in a double bed room Our dog was in tow and the pet fee was only $20! Beds were comfy Shower and bathroom were greatThe hotel can’t control what businesses sit next door Super 8 had some sketchy people hanging out in their parking lot this morning We were on the third floor so we could see over the wall that blocks Super 8 and La Quinta Inn Overall our experience was great

T Y

The photos online make this place seem nicer than the reality The pool was green and unusable The AC wasn’t working in the lobby

When I arrived I had some coffee in the lobby which was very stale and slightly colder than room temp The breakfast was decent but they stop serving at 9am The AC in my room wouldn’t turn off so I either had to let it run at 58 degrees or turn it off I like it cold so that wasn’t too big of an issue for me personallyThe room itself was fine otherwise, bed was comfy enough Pillows not so great and there were stains on the sheets and pillows The sink is nice Shower decent not the best water pressure

WOW!!!! We got married at Rosemont last weekend 01/29/22 and I am still processing how incredible it was We rented the entire manor property for the weekend, which I can not recommend more It allowed for us to enjoy our time with guests etc and not feel like we wasted money on one rushed day

Michael, our wedding planner was a blessing He stuck by my side for the past two years and helped me create the wedding of my dreams!! Seriously, he is an expert and my biggest helper The grounds are beautiful and our winter wedding came to life with snow, fireworks, amazing food and drinks Our guests are still not over the experience they had and we will forever remember this as the best time in our entire life I wish I could do it a million times over! Thank you Rosemont !!!

Rachel Yearick

Every wedding I have photographed at the Barn here has been lovely There is something magical about the lighting with the “waterfall” background! It’s been amazing exploring the land around as I photograph couples & document their love in such a unique setting And the spotlight “last dance” option is perfection! I look forward to more weddings at the barn!

Sean and Nichole Osborn

My wife and I booked the Rosemont Manor for our wedding last Fall and had an incredible experience If you’re reading this and considering this location for your big day, we cannot recommend it enough (and we looked at a TON of venues in the Western Virginia area) First and foremost, our wedding coordinator, Michael Haymaker, went above and beyond to ensure that we were well taken care with all the additional considerations with respect to Covid

Not only that, but the entire venue staff were incredibly accommodating through our planning process and were timely in all correspondenceWhen we first toured the property, we were given the choice between hosting our event at either the manor or the barn (both located on the property) We opted for the manor and also booked the guest rooms and 2 cottages for friends and family The Bird’s Nest suite (the newly wed cottage) was perfect for my wife and I’s first night as a married couple For anyone with a taste for history or the gorgeous property, the stay is absolutely incredible and feels like a true bed and breakfast from the past It was very beautiful and super convenient to have family and friends staying on the property the whole timePlanning leading up to the event took place over a year and half and never once did we feel ignored or forgotten Between coordinating the guest stay and ensuring our vendors were updated on information they needed, we never had to question that everything was on track Michael wanted to meet with us several times to kick things off and then numerous times leading up to the event to ensure nothing fell through unseen We always knew that these meetings were important, but in hindsight, this meticulous planning and organizing was critical to the success of the event We never could have hosted anything half as extravagant without all the planning that Michael offered and assisted with Nothing was overlookedAll the work we did with Michael was highlighted and then elevated by the clear level of experience and professionalism all staff exhibited on the big day We received numerous compliments on how friendly and accommodating everyone working was My wife and I were particularly blown away by how everything just worked With the unknowns of trying to do a mostly outdoor event (Covid) we were worried about the weather, but the Rosemont staff handled everything exceptionally There was one last minute hiccup (due to an oversight on our part) and we didn’t have space in the reception area for a photobooth we had requested Michael stepped in and told me not to worry about it Needless to say, it was taken care of before we even had time to worry about it The evening was truly flawlessWe would recommend the Rosemont Manor to anyone even remotely considering it Their experience, professionalism and genuine care for their patrons was of the highest caliber You will not regret booking with Rosemont, period

Had an opportunity to stay at the Hampton Inn Winchester for a weekend and have to say that I was so pleasantly surprised by the hotel It has recently been renovated so all the rooms, lobby, meeting room space was fresh and new, which I loved! The staff could not have been any nicer Customer service was excellent! Any requests made of the staff were handled immediately and with a smile!

Shalan Brown

Stayed for 2 nights Everything was great until we had breakfast in the morning and the rude disrespectful racist breakfast attendant ruined it The lazy GM was nonchalant about the situation when I complained

Horrible way to manage a property Surprisingly this isn’t the first complaint they have gotten about her and yet she’s still there If you work hard for your money I’d advise not to say there Disrespectful employees that think it’s ok to treat people any way Sad that one person ruins the entire stay Had I not encountered that, my stay would’ve have been great

RAYNA AUSTIN

Very comfortable bed and pillows Perfectly clean and excellent use of space Large, well equipped bathroom with quick hot water and nice water pressure

Horrible breakfast Do not consider it when you seek your stay Children’s sugar cereals and yogurt, white bread, white bagels, frozen omelettes, runny oatmeal, green bananas, tough, meally apples Make a decision Do a continental with fresh fruit and a Variety of carbs OR do real, hot breakfast with fresh omlettes, potatoes, meat More doesn’t mean better when you have to go elsewhere and pay for breakfast Coffee was decent

Just came here for another great meal! I always get the duck and I’m always so happy with it! Two other items from this meal were also memorable: the French Lullaby and the salad verte! The salad was THE best salad I’ve ever had anywhere

those little crunchy herbs were divine! I loved every bite! Service is impeccable Our servers were very young compared to past visits, but they were awesome and took the best care of us Can’t wait to go back

I was very disappointed in this B&B and would not recommend My husband and I were traveling cross country on our motorcycle and after staying with family for a few days we were so looking forward to our night at L’Auberge The location is really beautiful, the grounds are lovely and Emily was very nice when we checked in

Because we had limited storage on our bike we didn’t have dress clothes with us and I asked Emily if we would be ok eating in the restaurant because of the ‘dress code’ She assured us multiple times that the menu that night was ‘casual’ and we’d be fine in our jeans or even shorts and tee shirts Emily helped us carry our bags to the Van Gogh room which was really lovely, furnishings beautiful, bed was comfortable, linens were nice and I was really looking forward to the whirlpool bath after dinner However, there was NO SHOWER in this room There is a hand held shower in the whirlpool tub but honestly, I use a hand held shower to wash my dog or clean my whirlpool It’s not feasible to expect grown adults to use that as a shower Seriously Had this been the end of the story i would have given them 4 stars for the room, even without a shower Dinner just spoiled the whole night, the entire stay We were judged by the restaurant staff based on on clothes, even tho we were GUESTS, the servers ignored us all night They had servers in black jackets and 2 on white shirts We had a white shirt, young guy, who didn’t know answers to our questions indicating he was a junior server or bus person? After waiting an HOUR for our meal, looking at our EMPTY WATER GLASSES and my EMPTY WINE GLASS while watching another table be served by every single black jacket in the place, we finally lost our patience My husband ordered chicken and no where on the menu does it say it was going to take an hour When it was finally served, BURNT the person serving said “at least it’s not raw” Wow But you know, it actually was raw and potatoes were undercooked One black jacket said she was sorry and did we want dessert? We ordered dessert to go and this time we had the other white shirt server, who was the nicest person in that restaurant We went in there expecting to spend $300 on a nice meal Instead we were ignored, served awful food and treated extremely poorly And then they had the nerve to give us a bill for $16000 The next morning neither of us wanted to go to the restaurant for breakfast so I requested it in the room instead My husband left a note when we left and I spoke with Emily about our experience but the best they would do is comp our dinner, altho I’ve yet to see the credit They advertise they are the Best High End restaurant in Virginia but let me tell you, I’m from Palm Beach, Florida and if they are the best in Virginia, you all have my sympathy Go anywhere else

Beautiful historic hotel We spent the weekend with our 6 month old son Perfect location with many restaurants and stores within walking distance

We stayed in one of the king rooms and it was the perfect size for us and our son in his pack n play The front desk even remembered our request to have a corner room so we didn’t inconvenience other guests We did have some issues with one of the elevators being out of service, but this was quickly resolved by the staff allowing us to use the service elevator since we had our stroller Overall, excellent customer service and we highly recommend this hotel if you are in the Winchester area Look forward to coming back again soon!

This hotel is lovely! Each room has lots of space, the pool is nice and unique – my guests and my sisters kids a like loved it, my mom was able to get a last minute massage, it is walkable to a lot of lovely restaurants, and the Half Note bar in the hotel Lobby is great to hang out! Oh! and large bathrooms which is great for getting ready!I worked with Felicia to book our hotel block! She was wonderful at helping us work through problems with our guests booking This is the only reason we are giving it 4 stars The booking process was rough for our guests

Every single one of our guests, including ourselves, had issues booking with the block when they called the front desk It always worked out but it was unnecessarily difficult to get a room at times It seems like there is some sort of disconnect between the block and what the front desk is able to do Also the parking with snow was a bit tricky with uncleared spots, and then the garage parking was a bit unclear with valet parking or if we could park there because the outside lot was fullOn a positive note, I booked their largest suite and it was a amazing! I had my bridal party over the night before and the day of to get ready There was also a waterfall shower and large tub!Overall, I would say book here but make sure you have more than enough rooms on hold in your block and have them a few days before the wedding as well

D & L Brannon

For the price the hotel is not worth it The front desk staff were not helpful, friendly or curious They advertised a restaurant and that’s not really true

They do have a bar that only opens at 4pm and serves only bar food A separate breakfast restaurant only serves limited breakfastBooked the Spa located within the hotel Checking the booking two days out, the day before all confirmed the spa treatment We showed up on the day and time of the reservation and they had no record of the reservation The hot tub located in the pool area was cold For the pool there was no changing roomsThey charge for parking which is fair enough In the uncovered parking area loud groups gather well into the evening, shouting and clearly drinking Not a comfortable situationThe rooms were dated Wet marks on the roof of the room caused by leaks, rooms very smallCannot recommend

There are so many positive things to say from the courteous staff to the outstanding food We had our wedding here and I can’t say enough about the amazing experience Michelle, our wedding coordinator did a fabulous job and handled everything for us

She was personable, down to earth, and made us feel special I can’t say enough good things about her The place itself is very quaint and on beautiful grounds The food is incredible This place is the best kept secret – if you’re lucky enough to find it Thank you to everyone who made our day so special We will be back!

Staying at the Hillbrook Inn and Spa was an absolute great experience The staff is wonderful and very helpful I stayed in the Spring Cottage, and it was gorgeous

I scheduled a massage for my mom and a facial for myself Both were so relaxing and calming! I also had reservations for dinner, and the food was impeccable! I have never had such amazing, tasty food I will absolutely be back for another weekend getaway! Thank you to all the staff and their hospitality!

Amy Warrington

I can not say enough good things about the Guest Services staff at the Hillbrook! They made us feel taken care of before we even got there, and greeted us as if they were genuinely excited at our arrival They even put out dog bowls and treats for our puppy Newton, who was traveling with my boyfriend and I And I haven’t even gotten to how amazing the room was! From the super comfortable king bed, to the fireplace with cozy armchairs, to the soaking tub, to the fluffy robes and towels—we were blown away by the entire space! Breakfast the next morning was phenomenal, but not complimentary like we thought

However, still highly recommend if you’re a breakfast person!

Not a good place for families! Check in was great, the staff was super friendly In our room my two children and myself fell asleep Later that night, my wife who is a smoker went outside around 11pm had her cigarette and to get our tablets from the vehicle

As she walked down the hallway a man came running down the hallway at her from behind She quickly turned around right before he tried to rob her of her belongings They were alone in the hallway, she scared him off, he then apologized and ran She was so shooken up she spent the rest of the night checking the peep hole The staff said sorry they couldn’t even access the cameras she is still traumatized by it Was supposed to receive a call from management but that phone call never came After our own investigating of the hallway we came to find out strangers who were not checked into the hotel were entering/exiting the building as they pleased without a problem using the emergency stairwell To top it all off the continental breakfast that was included had nothing as staff stated they had run out of food because no had ordered any supplies

Rachel Wineman

We have stayed at this hotel so many times when visiting my grandmother and have always really enjoyed our stay It’s more expensive than surrounding hotels, but the quality of the rooms and service made it worth it But this time, there were so many things wrong with our room

The toilet bowl had black mildew under the edges like it hadn’t been scrubbed in so long The bathroom fan was broken so the room stayed very humid with 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) showering The shower rod was broken and tipped forward so the curtain bunched in the middle and water sprayed out around the sides The blankets had stains The mini fridge wouldn’t work upon arrival We discovered it had never been defrosted and had an inch of ice on the back inside panel We spent awhile with a hair dryer defrosting it Some water got on the carpet, so we mopped it up with a towel The towel came up black, as did our feet whenever walking barefoot in the room because the carpet was filthy I understand that staffing is a problem all over right now, but the quality of this hotel has fallen dramatically while the price remains high, and I doubt we will stay here again unless convinced they have improved substantially

I hate when there’s a gap in the curtains Nice big screen TV with streaming options Water pressure in the shower This Courtyard has it all I would definitely stay here again

This was our first points redemption stay and we were excited to use a free night for a quick getaway We checked in early afternoon and although the parking lot was empty, we were denied an upgrade Our Marriott Elite status was disregarded and we were given a room right next to the elevators

The parking lot remained empty throughout the night and early morning The room was superficially cleaned by housekeeping The phone on the nightstand was dirty and appeared to not have been wiped down, including the bed headboard and other furniture doors You could see the glare of handling from sitting on the couch There was visible dirt under the tv as well The room was definitely renovated with a modern touch; however, the bathroom was disregarded in this aspect with poor lighting Despite the room being modern, the overall layout was poorly designed For example, if you wanted to lay in the bed and watch tv, the closet came in the way The ac also appeared outdated and the vents were very dirty I also found it inappropriate for housekeeping staff to knock on our door at 9am when we had the DND sign on the door knob and check out wasn’t until 11amThe location of the hotel is definitely very convenient and right off of the highway The best part of the hotel lobby was the cozy fireplace

This place was obviously a newer establishment, but man is it beautiful! Honestly, we were surprised by the quality of our room based on the price We stayed for a wedding and the service and flexibility of the staff to accommodate us was wonderful and something I’m not often used to with hotels If we find ourselves in that area again, we’ll be sure to stay again

And breakfast was wonderful!!!

Friendly staff Great breakfast with terrific hours on weekends Rooms are looking rough already for a newer hotel and could use a deep cleaning

There were oily fingerprint smears on the headboard, marker stains on the desk, dusty AC vents, etc I get hotels don’t clean everyday like they used to but this wasn’t the Marriott quality I’ve come to expect after staying over 1,420 lifetime nights

Do not book threw Expedia They charge a “Extra Guest Fee” for children! The price your given is based on 2 adultsThe room was okay, had a glass sliding door to the bathroom which was different

There was a big stain on foot stool that looked like it could of been cleaned up and there was little black hairs on the two decorative pillows Made me wonder if they actually wash them?

The staff really put this hotel above and beyond We called before with questions about the wedding block, asked questions during regarding breakfast and additional pillows/blankets, and after checkout about billing Every single time staff were super kind and helpful, especially Jennifer who we talked to at the front desk multiple times for various topics

The rooms are larger than most hotel rooms and were clean but a little dated Bathrooms were a little small but the room space more than made up for it Our pack n play fit without any issue and still plenty of room for the kids to move around We requested a room we could see the train from since the tracks run right along the property but unfortunately did not see one Our room was 302, immediately to the right of the elevators We could hear people talking when loud in the hall but generally it was a very quiet and relaxed hotel The breakfast was fantastic The hotel is very close to several restaurants and activities Will definitely stay here again on future visits to town!

I had a one night stay over and it was very pleasant The rooms were comfortable, the A/C was perfect, on full and pumping out beautiful cold air The parking is a bit challenging unless you get there early

I had my 26ft trailer with me, and luckily found a big enough spot out front They unfortunately had their restaurant closed, but had plenty of options for various foods nearbyMy biggest ♥ for this hotel is the staff I left the following day believing I got everything with me Unfortunately that was not the case I got about 20mins North on I-81, when I realized I left an envelope with $1500 on my bed, after🤬🤬🤬, I hauled A$$ back to the hotel I called guest services and told them what happened and of they found it I came screaming into the lot and ran inside And there at the desk were the cleaning staff and the manager, they said they knew it was obviously left by accident and brought it down to the front desk I was speechless, I thanked them so much The money was for my family I wished I had given them more but I couldn’t There really are good people out there

A pleasure to walk into this hotel after being on the road and staying in other not so nice hotels The travel hotel industry needs to step it up Despite all the issues these hotels are facing, this one has a bright lobby, excellent, warm staff, a very decent restaurant with lots of choices and prices that don’t shock

We had a clean, spacious room and the bed was quite comfy
