Came to Bemidji for grandson’s high school graduation and enjoyed four nights in this lovely, well-maintained B & B Breakfasts were very good, and there is a small living area with kitchen for snacks, etc and convenient wash machines

Jill’s flexibility and hospitality were the best There is a great view of the lake, and we heard loons in the evening! This was wonderful for a former Minnesotan! It is easy to walk into town along the lake for other meals Dick was gone most of the time, but both he and Jill have good stories!

Nice clean place Friendly staff Continental breakfast was very good

Nice view of the lake while eating breakfast Breakfast attendant Jenny works hard to keep the breakfast area clean and full Room could use some new furniture and updates but the bed is very comfy The jacuzzi was nice Used it as more of a tub though as the button to turn on looked broken

Linda Nelson

We had a GREAT experience The room was nice and clean Check in was easy

They have a nice pool area with a hot tub that extends outside through the side of the building HUGE beach front area with a small dock with a bench Nice outdoor seating area and a really, really good breakfast You can tell the breakfast ladies really care about the quality I’d definitely stay here again The only hiccup was our bill was $40 higher in the end than shown on the internet when booking It was supposed to be $180 but our bill came out to $220 Never took a screen shot of reservation price so I didn’t bother disputing with front desk I would stay here again so if you want to send me a credit for next time I would greatly appreciate it!

Amy Pickus

Greatest experience in a hotel we have ever experienced We booked the whirlpool suite and we all know what we expect in the whirlpool, this was the first time there was nothing extra floating The bathrooms not a piece of anyone else’s hair present

The place was absolutely immaculate! To say friendly and accommodating staff is a complete understatement No where did you go without being greeted and asked if you needed anything The breakfast was definitely one of the more elaborate for a free continental breakfast Even the breakfast staff greeting everyone with a good morning, is there anything else you need or we can get you Absolutely incredible experience from booking to check out I highly recommend for your stay if you need lodging in Bemidji

BE WARNED! Owner is a money hungry joke We left the place clean as we moved in and charged us 150 dollars to clean Umm cleaning is apart of owning a rental property

Wants to charge to clean the laundry room when it was left exactly like it was before use Owner also comes in and out of YOUR property (THE ONE YOUR RENTING) without any warnings don’t ask don’t let you know ahead of time just walks in Very unprofessional and ILLEGAL! Place is great looks awesome but the owner tacking on fees and such automatically taking out of your deposit he sends 2 weeks later is a joke! ID AVOID I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN!

Ted Ernste

Great place to stay Newly renovated cabins and the owner is one of the nicest, most accommodating men I’ve ever had at a place He went above and beyond to make us comfortable and feel welcome

Plenty of stuff to do like paddle boards, paddle boats, a ping pong table, he even let us use his family’s bike I would recommend this place to anyone and I am definitely planning on going again

I’d give this hotel TEN STARS!will definitely stay here always when we come up The rooms a VERY nice, great upgrades, AND VERY CLEAN!!The shower (I know sounds weird) is INCREDIBLE!! The water pressure is the BEST, I have NEVER had such amazing water pressure, and is nice n hot If it had a seat in the shower, it’d be perfect! The kitchette is awesome

Full size fridge and the room is well equipped We’re staying due to business for a couple weeks I can only imagine what they’re two room king suites are like! The staff are very nice and professionalDEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!AND THEY ARE PET FRIENDLY!!

Ladies at the front desk weren’t didn’t seem to enthusiastic about anything Floors weren’t vacuumed well if at all Our dog found a pretzel right away and my sister, in a different room, found a contact lens

There was a storm that knocked power out for a bit and apparently that keeps the refrigerators off until they come through and do something They didn’t tell anyone this and we ended throwing a bunch of food away On the plus side, beds were comfy and the hotel is very quiet

Experienced racial discrimination today in Bemidji Candlewood Walked in to get a hotel room we drove 7 hours, was greeted by Lynn I asked if they had any rooms for tonight, very quickly she said no

Wouldn’t look in the computer She said unless we had a reservation the answer was NO We looked online after leaving and rooms were in fact available We called 30 min later and asked for a room for tonight and quickly the answer was YES ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STAY HEREWe have stayed here many of times in the past as I have family in this town LYNN Is a terrible employee who needs to lose her job and find a new one in a city NOT populated by anyone of color

Just had lunch there and looked in the shop I was inquiring about a sweatshirt and as staff was willing to check to see if they had other sizes A coworker that was on the phone grabbed a piece of paper and wrote the word NO on it and handed it to the nice staff who was willing to look

It was an experience that left a bad feeling about the shop they haveThe food and drinks were amazing and I loved that they tended to my dog just as they did for us

Brad Cramer

I want to like this place, but I can’t Our experience at Ruttger’s was poor We came during a busy time, so I’m guessing that’s why it was so expensive, but >$1000 or three nights?! This stay wasn’t worth half that, and that’s not the biggest issue

We stayed in the Cedar Lodge When you first arrive you’ll notice how dated the room is (if you look at the website, notice the strategically angled photos) That’s acceptable, but then you’re hit with a smell of wet sulfur (rotten eggs) you know you’ve made a bad choice Upon exploration of the room, you’ll see the laundry list of issues beyond the dated decor and smell Our beds were made, but the room wasn’t clean Scraps of trash on the floor, dust and residue on surfaces, odd little flakes that looked like poppy seeds in the bed sheets, freezer in need of defrost, dents scrapes and holes in the walls and furniture, and a half broken futon as the couch The water also smelled awful I took a shower and my entire body itched afterwardsIt’s worth noting that I told staff, and the manager that handles housekeeping did her best to make it right But even after that, there was still scraps of trash in places and some surfaces still dusty/sticky/grimy and the room smelled bad the entire stay The only reprieve was to open the windows but two of the three days it was in the upper 80’sThe lake is fun, and the restaurant has good food We didn’t use the pool but it also looked very dated They have fun water toys kids can use But all the good here was overshadowed by our awful roomTLDR: Overpriced, dirty and smelly, not thoroughly cleaned, dated, poor quality of furniture Fun lake and good restaurant

David Scott

Nice remodeled main lodge and the front desk staff were great Also, nice waterfront area But, our cabin was disappointing, to say the least

Yes, it’s old (1915) and we signed up for “rustic”, but it’s moldy, dilapidated, and the electrical is downright scary Loose plugs, exposed wires and overloaded circuits all around the place I have stayed in rustic accomodations before and that usually means simple and charming This is just poorly maintained, damaged and downright dangerous I’d call it scam rustic Would have hoped they could treat their historic cabins with a bit more care and respect, especially for $500/night

Great customer service by all employees I came in contact with Everyone was friendly, attentive, and helpful The lobby area was cozy, warm, and convenient for getting some work done on my computer as there was plenty of space

The room was super clean – no issues The pool/hot tub area is open until 12 for adults, which I greatly appreciated I enjoy using the hot tub in the winter when I travel but seems like so many hotels close the hot tub so early and by the time I get back to the hotel after dinner and/or drinks, there is no opportunity to take advantage of it Also, the breakfast is available until 10 am, which is awesome, as I feel like most hotels stop serving breakfast too early in the morning The whole stay was smooth and seamless The only thing I would say is that I think the rooms are a bit overpriced but there could be various explanations as to why I’d stay again

Owen Dahl (ND FRMBOY)

This has to be the nicest hotel in the Wyndham chain that I have stayed at The whole facility was clean and well maintained The young man at the desk met us with a smile and made sure check in was quick and easy and we each got a fresh cookie

Although the king room was not real big it was roomy enough for the two of us The room and furnishings appear to be nearly new The bed was very comfortable and the HVAC worked as it should The bathroom was spotless and the shower provided plenty of hot water Breakfast was better than what I have been used because of covid There was plenty of fresh coffee, scrambled eggs and ham, along with a waffle maker There was a variety of fresh fruits, yogurt and cereal too All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful I didn’t get to the pool but I did see people enjoying it This hotel will be put into my Wyndham favorites list

Adam Kuznia

Started off great, Cassie greeted us at close to midnight after a long day and was very friendly She even let us hang out in the hot tub a couple of minutes past closing time after our late arrival The next day, the staff attitude took a rough turn

Most hotels I’ve stayed will allow guests a grace period or a little later checkout Not here, the lady is by the book and told us 11 is the latest because they are booked for tonight and filling up fast When we left, the parking lot was empty No new guests were here It’s sad when you blow $200 on an average room and a urine filled hot tub and the staff doesn’t have the courtesy to allow you a few extra minutes to get ready after a late arrival Would not recommend Will go back to the usual Hampton or Doubletree across town next time we’re in town

The owners, Scott and Sue, are just lovely people! The resort is clean and family-oriented with lots of things to do, if that’s your jam However, it’s also a great place to just unwind and relax We stayed in an RV site, which was centrally located next to the shower house and play area

We got to enjoy the fish fry/ potluck which is held every Wednesday! So much fun! Everyone introduces themselves, so you get to meet your neighbors, which is great! If you’re looking for a party place, don’t bother, but if you’re looking for a great resort experience, I would highly recommend!

I have many fond memories of this resort The fishing is always wonderful It feels like a home away from home

Ownership has always been outstanding What makes this resort is the people The people that travel there, the people that own the resort It is such a family friendly environmentBeautiful lake, The loons on the water at night, I miss going there so much!

Spent two weeks here and had a wonderful experience! The staff were all friendly, hospitable, and very capable at their jobs The staff are really the highlight of this hotel and you can tell management is doing great work The hotel itself was clean, smelled fresh, and all the amenities worked as expected

The breakfast is good as far as continental style breakfasts go It’s in a scenic, quiet location (for now, seems to be a bunch of development going in) and easy to get to, with a view of the lake from one side of the hotel The rooms themselves are very nice with appropriate lighting, comfortable furniture (most importantly the bed!), and practical bathrooms There is a restaurant attached for convenience Highly recommend a stay here!

Paul Mazzeno

I worked for a week of out of the hotel while my son was in a local camp The staff helped me rearrange my reservation and went an extra step to make my long stay more comfortable The room was comfortable and the desk was plenty big enough for me to set up my laptop, dock, and a large monitor

The view of the lake from that side of the hotel is great and there is immediate access to the walking/bike path I walked about 125 miles along the path to the downtown each night for dinner (a few really good places to eat) There’s a small community beach a short walk away and there is a mini-golf being built about the same short distance The breakfast was nice, there is plenty of room in the lobby to hang out (even with a larger group), there’s a nice patio out back with plenty of seating, and the I used the hot tub in the pool area a couple times I didn’t try the gym, but they a little of everything you find in most basic hotel workout rooms

Jodi Stockeland

We were guests during college graduation week, & we would definitely stay here again! The front desk team were all very helpful, friendly, & pleasant Our rooms were clean & nice The view of the lake was beautiful

And, their breakfasts are amazing!!! So many options to choose fromThe Tavern, which is connected, was an added bonus if you wanted a cocktail or a bite to eatAll in all, a very nice place to stay!!!

Easy access to the Green Mill restaurant next door They have a lovely looking breakfast buffet, which we have not yet tried (but it smelled incredible when we walked by this morning) There is a nice-looking pool area that also has beautiful views of the lake Everyone we met has been very friendly and welcoming The next time we visit Bemidji, DoubleTree will be the hotel for us!
