Everything is outdated and in need of updating/repairs Not very clean and only offers room service once a week If the right person came along and put the money into this it would be a prime motel again but that won’t happen under the current ownership

The only updating they did was slap some new paint on it and called it good I give this a negative 10 star rating

What can I say besides it’s a place to sleep? They had the last hotel room available in the Soo on a busy weekend, so was fortunate to have a bed Very dated décor, room smelled like smoke, and the heat didn’t work They clearly do the bare minimum maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning to keep things running, but it’s comfortable enough for a night

Friendly staff I probably wouldn’t seek out this place to stay again if other options were available, but as has been said, it’s a place to sleep

Mike

We booked here because the reviews seemed generally good and the $75 (+ tax) rate seemed reasonable However it was really terrible

Room was supposed to be non-smoking, but reeked of cigarette smoke Level of cleanliness was poor, upholstered chairs, in particular, were filthy Everything was old and worn Broken and missing tiles in bathroom There were a bunch of locals in residence, probably placed there by social services (mostly friendly, but the people in the next room appeared to be high on something) Positive notes: The guy at the office was friendly and helpful, bed was OK, and the WIFI worked, but my strong recommendation is to stay somewhere else

We previously stayed at Plaza Motor Motel for a night and fell in love immediately- a beautiful and comfortable little place! Each room is designed differently with a unique and fancy flair that makes you feel like you’re somewhere special! The rooms have always been clean, with the beds having protective coverings to ensure health and tidiness, to the harmonious flora and decorations outside the motel that make you feel relaxed and refreshed after long days of traveling Integral accommodations as well as the outside lounging area that you can tell is genuinely cared for and has the guests’ comfort in mind There is no in-house breakfast but it’s okay because it encourages you to go out and explore local options! It’s a great and pretty stay that I recommend to anyone! Don’t miss out if you visit the area! (pricing is pretty good too!) Thanks Plaza Motor Motel!

I book this place sight unseen so I was a little leery, but to my surprise it was just perfect I really can’t say enough good about it The flower gardens were just beautiful, with such a wide variety of flowers

The rooms were very clean and comfortable They did not skimp on anything The bed and pillows were very comfortable The TV, lamps, bathroom fixtures, and furniture were very nice as well The Greeting Travelers plaque on the wall really touched both of us And last but not least the owner was very nice and welcoming Rigley his dog was so cute, but we checked in during his nap so he wasn’t all that thrilled to see us, ha ha ha! We are from Florida but if we are ever so blessed to be able to come back to the Upper Peninsula again, we will definitely stay here again

We had a wonderful experience! The staff were friendly and helpful The room was obviously newly renovated and it was clean and tidy The water took a bit to get warm but it’s expected with older buildings and didn’t bother me, just let it run for a couple minutes and it got warm

The breakfast was cute, came in a little bag full of goodies! This place was quaint, simple and good quality for the amount of money you are charged to stay here

Dian Sequeira

After reading all the reviews I was expecting the worst as we had booked in a rush without reading the reviews first and everything else was sold out last minute I ensured to call the front desk before arrival to make sure the room would be clean as we were travelling with small kids The front desk receptionist was really nice over the phone and our room was pretty great

It was clean, and brand new Not sure why the others have rated this place so bad, but I felt I needed to leave a review to help out this place It is a good hotel for a night stay The breakfast is a to go bag with several items in it I would stay here again

Krista Eyman

Travelling as a single female I was hesitant to book here after reading reviews however I’m glad I did Front desk staff was very nice and helpful (even when I was having brain fog after so much driving and locked myself out of my room) The room was clean, comfortable

I actually slept really well I felt safe in the area Newly renovated They’re doing some construction still in the main lobby but that didn’t bother or affect me at all

The Location is a 6 In/out of the parking lot can be a bit scary, especially in a full sized truck But, being able to park right across from the locks, and right downtown is perfect

The room itself was okay It’s an old motel that has had some upgradesthat aren’t necessarily well executed I can forgive the windows/doors that are a bit drafty, and the lack of lighting and plugsBut, with a little work; better linens, towels, beds, increased focus on cleaning, and a bit more maintenance and you would have a sell our gem

Superb housekeeping staffReally a super place to stay!

Bed bugs discovered in numerous locations throughout room (second floor) Normally I inspect the room as soon as possible but unfortunately I had to rush out for a meeting and couldn’t until I returned that nightAfter discovering the bed bugs (and yes these were absolutely 100% bed bugs) I looked at the hotel reviews and noticed a post from ~ 3 weeks prior in which a guest brought forth their experience with bed bugs

I was extremely disappointed to see that the “owner” had responded directly to that post but questioned if the guest had actually stayed during that time instead of actually ADDRESSING the issue of the bed bugsInstead of handling this professionally and resolving this KNOWN ISSUE the owner apparently decided to not take the previous review serious, which resulted in my discovery of bed bugs and a huge headache of dry cleaning/laundry/heat treatment of all of my itemsTo be clear – I realize these things can be out of control of the staff but once a guest brings forth issues with bed bugs AND PROVIDES PHOTOS/VIDEOS it should be addressed so that future guests like myself don’t encounter that

Jim Goodall

I have been less than impressed with Hampton recently They don’t clean your room unless specifically requested The refrigerator was off on arrival

The air conditioning turned off in the middle of the night and the thermostat had to be set again Their breakfast included turkey sausage that was disgusting and the eggs were cold

We loved staying here at the RV Park Would be great if they would give us a proper placemarker for our spot, as the last 2 times our spot has been stolen by other people with no change or repurcussions (As in, the spot stealer takes our ticket down and puts their ticket with the wrong number up, but they get to keep the stolen spot anyway

)We pay for a specific spot that we chose when we arrived It is First Come First Serve except it is not, and apparently it is just a free for allIf you leave for anything, someone will take your PAID for spot Staff prioritizes the spot stealer and we are forced to move despite having picked that spot and stayed there for days This has happened 2 years in a row!Not sure that I want to come back with the stress this causes And I will no longer be recommending this location Very sad about this and hope to update this if we are presented with a proper, respectful solution

Total waste of my health, sanity, and that of my children’s as well The security here did not protect my family Then they charged me for a whole extra night’s stay when we didn’t even stay after what happened which I won’t go into detail

But if your a female be safe here, don’t go to the bathroom alone after you have a drink, because the security here won’t watch or care for your safety They don’t care about the safety of their guests, nor their childrenI would never stay here ever again I will never return here unless it’s to get a refund for my night I didn’t stay here when my court proceedings start

Anthony Lummen

The pool closes at ten all the games in the game room are either broken or steal your money The TV is small, the beds SUCK!!! They’re not pet friendly however to did not turn away our service dogs

our daughter looked out the window and said “it looks like a fancy Walmart parking lot” do not waist your time or moneyfor $210 for one night is absolutely atrociousI get better rooms for WAAAAYYYY less at nicer hotels in Vegas

staff had no masks because “they’re in the same bubble” even though we, as guests, are clearly NOT in their “bubble” My fiance and I pulled up to the parking lot and were already skeptical

we put our masks on about to go inside when were approached by a young man with fake blond hair who was not wearing a mask He asked us “which room are you checking into?” we were so weirded out so we asked him who he was he said he worked there My fiance said we would check ourselves in inside Once we got inside the lady who worked reception did not have a mask on, nor did her husband, nor did the young blond man (who we assume is her son???) As the young man brought us upstairs we noticed natzi tattoos up his leg He brought us to a room with a sink in it then informed us that we had to share a bathroom with everyone else on that level We asked to speak to management he brought us downstairs to the lady who was still not wearing her mask and told us that she would only refund us if she was able to rent the room out to someone else

There exists few words that can truly describe this place; it’s a feeling that you must experience to know what it’s like The hotel despite its age built 1888, retains its magic; it has been renovated inside New hardwood floors fresh paint new bathrooms new everything

Remember this is an ancient piece of history this building having said that there is no A/C because the hotel is very old and can not handle the load and power needed to power them They have fans but keep In mind it does tend to be cooler in summer in this region as opposed to more southern Ontario destinations The hotel has a hostel like feel There are Daily weekly and monthly rates There are permanent residents that live there, good natured people that I had the great pleasure to meet There is much love in this spot, all the staff and owners are kind down to earth persons I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for the absolutely wonderful way that I was treated when I was there It is a feeling and a vibe not a fancy hotel but strong and vibrating community One love

H3rta

Careful when you book as some rooms don’t have a washroom /shower (they are shared) People who work here are nice Location is close to waterfront

Entire building smells of smoke even though it’s a non smoking building Gross

Incredible!!! We were traveling back to Kitchener from Marie Louise Provincial Park outside Thunder Bay and we needed a room for the night to relax, we WERE in White River when I needed to stop, but there were no rooms there, no rooms in Wawa and anywhere in-betweenSo I called all the way to Sault Ste Marie and found one at the Bel-Air, in fact it was their last room with double Queens and they held it without deposit for us

It took us a little over 3 hours but they held it until we arrived around 10pmThe gentleman at the desk was super amazing as well, he knew we were on the road and after getting us booked in he took the time to tell us what and where food was available at that time so we wouldn’t be searching Huge KUDOS hereThe room was not anything special, BUT it was 2 very comfortable beds to sleep in, and as far as expectations go, it was a MOTEL room, not the 4 seasons I will absolutely 100% go out of my way to stay here above anywhere else the next time In the SaultGreat service!!!!!

Spencer Lindenberg

For the price you really can’t beat it My room was clean, spacious, and cheap There was no strong smoke smell like is usually present in cheap hotel rooms

The decor was a bit outdated, but when I’m just looking for the cheapest place to rest my head I’m not expecting anything contemporary The beds were comfortable, and the room (including the bathroom) was spotless It definitely exceeded my expectations, and the owner was very kind

David Sutton

Great spot for a great price Owner was nice and room was overall pretty good Through out the night it got a little hot with the heater on once me and my girlfriend turned on the AC it really turned the room freezing cold so just be prepared for that other that

Also the bed was bareable not the most comfortable I’ve slept in but over all the room was great for a night stay would definitely recommend

The location is perfect! I loved being within walking distance to the Locks, shopping, and dining The staff was very friendly and gave us great recommendations for restaurants We ended up eating at Lockview twice because the food was so good

Our room was recently renovated and was very cute and clean Rates were more than reasonable given the location and room quality Would definitely stay here again

LaShonda Green

It was nice, location wise, but the room was poorly cleaned between stays There was dog and human hair everywhere The clerk said they didn’t allow pets, but someone managed to sneak one in

There was a strange wet spot on the floor, not sure from where and there may have been some black mold on the bathroom floor The room was very out dated The clerk was quick to change the bedding or give us a refund to stay somewhere else, which she lied about not having a double bed room available There was one 3 doors down that was vacant and the windows were open As soon as we were leaving, she hurried to clean the room before we even got out of the parking lot Will definitely spend a little more money for a more updated motel intown or a main chain out of the city

They put the room charge on my credit card when I checked in This was the same amount as on my Express Checkout receipt Then, literally in the middle of the night, at 12:28 am they charged me another $25

00 on my credit card When questioned them they said “It’s for incidental breakages and charges It will be refunded in a couple of days” Tell me first please! For all I knew someone with my credit card had sticky fingers
