We stayed here while visiting Portsmouth I love the vintage inspired decor that gives a nod to the motor inn legacy of Howard Johnson The rooms were clean, good size, reasonably priced

There was a microwave and mini fridge There is coin laundry downstairs Nothing special, but a decently priced no frills hotel in a convenient location

Kurt Lambert

You can definitely do better than this hotel Air conditioning unit sounded like a jet engine when it was running They said they might be able to move us if a room opened up

The breakfast is a weak selection of yogurt, oatmeal, and juice Frozen breakfast “hot pocket” has to be obtained from the front deskif you can find them when you want to eat We will not be returning

I’ve been spending weekends at this Inn for a little while now I live with 6 other people and need some time to myself occasionally and so far have been extremely pleased with the accommodations as well as the staff Unfortunately yesterday my experience was not so great

The manager was on duty at the desk and booked my room Ground floor, which I don’t like but was too tired to ask him to change it as he was handing me the already activated keys and I just wanted to get some sleep To my great disappointment, when I got into my room, it was a room for someone with special needs The bathroom was enormous but with nothing in it Assistance bars all over the walls, no counter space whatsoever except just enough to surround the sink My feet didn’t even touch the floor when I used the commode The bar in the closet was about 2 1/2 feet off the floor so my clothes were touching the ground The bed felt like this mattress had been there for quite some time and the rugs were worn I mentioned to the manager that I didn’t like the room and his response was “Really?” That’s it Really In my experience it’s procedure to inform the guest if you can only offer a room other than what they are requesting I’m sure it would be a great room, excepting the mattress, for someone in a wheelchair, but I am not, and now I am not comfortable renting here as I believe the management has no interest in pleasing the guest, only in getting as many rooms filled as possible in any way he can I’d also like to add that I’ve never had a problem with any other desk clerk They are all very pleasant and willing to accommodate I’ve only had one other complaint when staying there and was immediately offered another room But as I was able to fix the problem myself, I didn’t take it But it was nice to be given the option I would never had accepted the room I stayed in last night, had I been informed before checking in Sadly, I’ll be looking for something else for my weekends in the future Although I enjoyed most of my stays, I feel that if management doesn’t care about the guests comfort, there can only be more problems in the future

Charming hotel with amazing restaurant and friendly staff First, Salt is an amazing restaurant It has the best lobster bisque I’ve ever tried! They also make great drinks

Also, I accidentally fat fingered the reservation and hit the wrong date They had no problem waiving the change fee from bookingcom, and just fixed it on the spot Super classy organization that is very fitting of the building they’re managing I’ve stayed there about 6-10 times And love it each time

Katie G

Prior to our recent stay at the Wentworth by the Sea, I read up on the reviews listed on this page I was very weary of my booking after looking at all the negative comments but kept our reservation in hopes that our opinion would be different than thoseWell, it was wonderful

The hotel, the restaurant, the staff, everything was fantastic My husband and I spent two nights in a water view king suite which looked out over the marina on either side The heated floors in the bathroom were just an added perk to an already lovely roomWe ate at Salt and the food was magnificent The lobster bisque, while pricey, is an experience all should tryCould we afford to stay there during peak season? Definitely not Is this hotel in need of some cosmetic touchups? Sure But would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to getaway for a few nights We will definitely be back!

I was so not blown away by this place For $650 a night it time to step up the details I was non stop disappointed

I understand times are hard w staff/supply but don’t sell at $650 if you are going to give motel 8 serviceDirty aged room Had old water bottles under bed So dusty Aged room w molding coming off Robes had holes and stains Pretty sure the mismatched toiletries were used beforeRoom service was terrible Use to be a point of luxury Breakfast missing stuff – comes with one cold cup of coffee instead of a warmer pot Just junk and no extras like jams for breads Our order was missing half its items and no even consideration of complimentingFor a place like this you’d think there would be some extra details like some water in lobby, maybe some coffee – nothingPaid $170 for one night for dog – there’s no trash bins outside to dispose of waste Don’t let them in outdoor pool area When you stay at Westin you get a bowl, plush bed… if you are going to welcome dogs – welcomeThem Sure are paying for themBathrooms in public area were filthy and towels in pool area constantly goneSo disappointed

Everything was good My only issues were 1) the hotelscom listing was wrong about everything (check out time plus there is no pool here), and the maid was rude when I was on my way out the door at 11:03 (check out is 11:00, she didn’t care that my confirmation email said 12:00)

Pretty much the only hotel is Durham, though, so not horribly priced considered they effectively have a monopoly

Sarah Landgraf

The front desk staff charged my credit card while I was filling out a form that they asked me to fill out with my car information When I turned around the guy was swiping my credit card through the machine without even so much as asking me or informing that they were charging me for the entire cost of the room after it was booked (and presumably paid for) under my mothers name/ her card!! When I inquired if they had simply run the card for incidentals, they informed me they had run the card for the entire cost of the room Since it was my understanding the room was already paid for, they informed me that they only could have run the card that was used at booking with written authorization from the cardholder which they offered to email my mother

I have never run across this policy prior to this and I am definitely not impressed with this experience Perhaps, it is purely out of principal that you inform the customer of the charge prior to running their card In conclusion, customer service here is shameful and to future customers: don’t give them your credit card without knowing what they will charge to it when they swipe it through the card reader behind your back

Ended up at Hampton Inn Kittery for over 3-weeks on business While hotels are typically not ideal long-term, I could have asked for a better experience Location is perfect, within walking distance of the Outlet Mall, eateries, the highway

The shipyard and downtown Portsmouth are minutes away The staff is amazing—friendly and professional The pool and state of the art fitness center are a bonus Decent continental breakfast Hot and cold options Nice sized rooms with desk and small kitchen area (minus a stove)

Kris Tangen

For the cost of the room I felt like the Hampton Inn Kittery was good value! The good: the bed was comfortable, the cost of the room wasn’t bad for a king suite (under 200 a night), the hotel provides a free breakfast every morning which had a lot of unique options it wasn’t a continental it was an actual breakfast and the quality of the food wasn’t awful which you kind of expect it to be for a free breakfast, the location of the hotel was perfect for the beach, for visiting Portsmouth, for visiting York, etc the staff were friendly, helpful, and did an excellent jobThe less than stellar: the room smelled like mildew, the bathroom toilet did not flush fully so you had to flush twice regardless of what was occupying the bowl The pool smelled of mildew

We were walked in on by cleaning staff who thought the room was empty which I don’t hold against the cleaning staff but I was worried that they ended our reservation early because the staff only clean by request or when your room is emptyOverall I would recommend this place if you’re in Maine looking for a good location and good value, not without its faults but for the cost it got the job done!

Penny-Ellen Terr

I have worked in the hospitality industry for decades and seen it all when staying at hotels Seriously, I have many stories, but I have to say my stay at the Kittery Hampton Inn & Suites was beyond exceptional What made it so great? The General Manager, Reid, and the AGM, Justin

Both gentleman went out of their way to make my 2-week stay pleasurable They greeted me each morning by name and always asked if I needed anything Even the housekeeper asked to carry my breakfast try to my room one morning Seriously nice people who strive to accommodate! The hotel is immaculate, the location is in walking distance to restaurants & shopping, and the breakfast (which is include) was unique and delightful They also have a huge front lawn to walk your dog The management at this property definitely goes the extra mile, so many thanks This was my first stay at this property- but whenever I am in the area it will be my hotel of choice Hats off the Reid & Justin!!

I stayed at the Garrison for 8 days for work From Jamie and her colleagues at the front desk, who consistently went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed, to the amazing landscaper I never met but whose beautiful flowers, lively bird-feeders, and hotel-replica handmade birdhouse I admire, this place was a perfect place to spend the week for work In spite of the hotel apparently being totally full while I was there, and also serving canine guests, my room was **so quiet**

It was amazing liked it so much I’ll be stopping there next weekend (assuming I can get a room for us) on our family road trip next weekend

Angel Earth

This is a nice hotel located right next to/behind Dunkin Donuts and CVS I had the ‘Efficiency Room’ with a King size bed It was a quite and pleasant stay for me which is what I wanted

I gave 4 stars due to there being a narrow shower stall instead of a bathtub and also that the bed was a bit too soft as it felt like your back is sinking into the bed Otherwise, they have good amenities, a decent breakfast and is in a convenient location

Rachel Hansen

I would give this review a negative 5 if I could We booked a room and then canceled it immediately We were charged almost $400 for a “no show

” When we called they refused to give us a refund and told us, “they could have sold the room 20 times over that night” and “it wasn’t there issue” Now when we try to call they screen our phone calls and do not answer The one time I got through and spoke to Kathy, she told me that the hotel manager Tanya wasn’t available and that she would call me back Of course, Tanya never called back When I asked when she would be available Kathy said, “Oh you know, it is just so hard to tell with her I don’t know” Clearly they are avoiding us So very difficult to give a review on a hotel room that we never actually stayed in and were charged full price EXTREMELY disappointed in their customer service When I tried to explain our situation, it was clear they had zero empathy They are just a money hungry company who can care less about their customers

JJ Johnson (JJs2Cents Vlog)

We stayed for about 7 weeks They cleaned the room completely 1 time in that whole period Additionally they changed the sheets on the beds two other times

The cleaning staff did not perform even close to expectations We have stayed at Hilton brand hotels for over two decades and this was the worst experience yet because of the lack of professional and reliable cleaning staff Lastly, the back stairwell stunk awfully almost the whole time we were there It smelled as though someone was smoking blunts in it daily They attempted to open the doors and clean it a couple times but it consistently smelled awful The front desk staff was completely apathetic and unresponsive They were polite But never really followed through with any level of customer care or appreciation Also the management staff or whoever runs the credit card authorizations repeatedly (more than 10 times) ran nearly 3 times the authorizations that were required for the week This had the effect of tying up the available credit on my business expense travel card I contacted the management staff about this 4 times and it was never fixed Unfortunately I cannot recommend staying at this hotel I know I certainly will not ever stay there again Additionally, the hotel parking is not friendly for oversized vehicles or vehicles with trailers If you are hauling a trailer you will likely have to disconnect the trailer and park your vehicle next to it Otherwise you will take up multiple spots which will likely cause someone to not have a spot because the lot is so small Furthermore, the bathroom shower rod was broken and barely hanging on the wall and the shower curtain was all moldy and nasty In the two decades of staying with Hilton brand hotels I have never once had any of these issues or written a bad review But this experience required someone to say something because the upper level management needs to know what is going on so that it can be fixed It felt like we were staying in a very low quality road side motel not a hotel that charges two hundred dollars per night

Tracey Rosette

My sister and I took our kids here for an overnight getaway 2 adults 4 kids in their suite, it was Fantastic! Plenty of room for the kids to play plus plenty of room to sleep We brought an air mattress just in case, yet we never took it out of the car

We had an incident with the bathroom exhaust heater, it melted the plastic oddly enough and it smelled like burnt plastic in our entire room, they with no hesitation switched our room immediately Same room just different floorOur kids loved the pool and unlike other places it stays open later than usual Breakfast was also fantastic I really can’t think of anything that we disliked about this place It was great!

Ashley Lundberg

Catfished again by someone who must have taken the hotel photos 10 years ago The room looks very little like the pictures The couch is stained so bad that I won’t even sit on it

Chunks of wood missing from the dressers, end tables, desk etc The room smells like wet dog and the carpet is absolutely filthy My once white socks are literally black I gave 3 stars, because the price is great Also, know that you will hear planes (very loud and clear) all day and night, which I expected, but others might not think about The kitchen is dirty, dirty dishes in the dishwasher (fridge is very clean though) The bed is awful, very very uncomfortable but the pillows are nice and linens are clean In summary, do not expect to find what you saw in the photos They are supposedly under renovation, so hopefully this will change eventually, but I would never stay here again You definitely get what you pay for here, and to some people I’m sure this is fine, but just don’t expect luxury or an updated space I called the front desk to let them know about the couch stains and they basically said, yea we know, but nothing we can do about it and noted it on my room account Not their fault, they were very nice

A unique experience in this out-of-the-way hotel While everything on the surface seemed to be good, there were a few notable, interesting things The staff and service seem to be top notch

The continental breakfast was as you would expect it to be, small items to eat, without much fanfare The thing that got us was the fact that when we entered our suite, we were greeted with a heavily stained carpet Seeing as we were not at the beach, or someplace where this would be normal, it threw red flags as to how the room would be But the room turned out to be pretty fantastic With separate bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms, it was perfect for our large family The only other semi-complaint would be the inundating smell of chlorine bleach when you first enter the main lobby (not a bad thing, per se, since it denotes cleanliness) But the lack of other smells commonly associated with hotels nowadays (weed, mold, mildew, etc) was a pleasant surprise The elevator was a bit rickety, especially for family members that have phobias in them But the rate of speed was highly-respectable The flow of water to the showers was great, but the temperature could use tweaking on the fourth floor The staff were ubër-friendly, including a kind woman at the breakfast offering chocolate chips for our waffles, or the front desk woman who was kind to greet us when we would come downstairs The breakfast area was very clean and tidy; well-maintained But that stain remained the downfall of the adventure for my wife and daughter I would give it a solid 47 stars, but cannot go the full 5, although I gave it 5 for the overall (Also, a HUGE bonus was being right next to a Mexican restaurant — Margaritas — with easy access to and from, but that’s not really a thing to hitch or kick a review)

We loved that our family could spread out in a suite of two rooms, one with a queen bed, and another with two doubles plus fridge, microwave, desk, chair and counter We don’t mind sharing a bathroom so appreciated not having to pay for two whole rooms and just a bit extra for the suite It was also very convenient to be able to charge electric vehicle overnight for a small additional charge

Our room was never cleaned during the three nights we stayed, which wasn’t a problem for us, but some people might not like it The breakfast wasn’t great, but we didn’t expect that for the price We will probably stay here again

David MacLeod

I was very pleased with this motel The service was courteous and efficient Very friendly and helpful owners

This is why a motel owned and operated are superior to big Franchise I was travelling from Southwest Florida which I have done for several years I must say the BEST motel I stayed in Room was very comfortable and TV selection was great Location was near I95 and close to Gas and restaurants

Joshua Bryant

The Port Inn was good Not amazing, but certainly not bad either The room was a mixture of the outdated and updated

There was also a bit of a smell in there that we couldn’t quite track down However, the room was overall clean and the staff was friendly We also loved that they have complementary electric car chargers Overall, I would stay there again for the price we paid

Holiday inn definitely has great consistency If you’ve been to one Holiday inn express in NH then you know what the other Holiday inns here will be like I like how the room design is consistent across their different locations

The staff here are very courteous, the beds are comfy, and the room is cleanYou can check my other reviews if you want to compare the room design

My girlfriend, our daughter and I stayed here a week ago and I decided to look at my bank account and I had a 63 dollar charge from the Hotel So I called and asked what its for and they said it was for stained pillow cases from hair dye Only 1 case was stained and it was stained lightly

It’s not like we broke something in the bathroom or the TV I would get that But it’s a pillow case and my girlfriend didn’t realize her hair dye came out on the pillow case Also I thought there was a $50 dollar incidental charge that you won’t get back if something happens

The shower is really nice The room fridge and microwave are very nice Larger than I expected Lobby is comfortable and nicely decorated Staff is pleasant and helpful Location is good but shuttle service was a bit slow Hallway noise late at night woke me but it was not loud nor prolonged

I travel for work and am cooped up in hotels 90% of the year This hotel refused to clean my room, and then when they finally did they wouldn’t change bedding I had been staying here for over 3 weeks and refused to change bedding

After longer talks they finally came and changed bedding As a diamond member this should’ve been addressed and never occur again However, this is the second Marriott in 2 months that refused to clean rooms Some say it is because of extended stays Last Marriott was only a week stay and refused to Clean Here at this Marriott, I am staying for 2 months and they won’t Clean more than once a week That would be fine if they changed bedding but I had to specifically ask for new bedding as it wasn’t changed Very frustrating to be living on the road and dealing with this Am I not paying a new room price everyday? Why has cleaning been restricted to once a week? Shouldn’t it be every day cleaned if I am paying the same price everyday? Isn’t that in the agreement or something? Very upset from my stay here

At check in, first thing that was said “we don’t service the rooms every day You will be here 5 nights so you get 1 service day” Really? I’m paying up to $400 per night and you can’t even service the room? You had to pay for breakfast

Prices were crazy high $11 for a breakfast burrito? $3 for a soda out of the machine I will not be back, in fact this place pushed me to find a different brand other than Marriott They try to squeeze every penny out of you even though you pay through the nose for their rooms

BEWARE!!!! STOLEN JEWELRY!!!! We came here for a short get-a-way because we heard it was a beautiful area and we were enjoying it until this happened We asked to have the room cleaned once! I had a jewelry pouch in a zipped travel bag and now some pieces are gone! Everyone is defending the room cleaner and hotel! To everyone’s point that this has not happened here at this hotel before, and that the room cleaner has never done anything like this before, well, this has NEVER happened to us before! We have been married almost 40 years and have traveled many times, and this has NEVER happened to us before all I know is that I had the jewelry when I got here and now it is GONE! Diamonds that have been in my family for over are 100 years, GONE! I am totally devastated and now have this to remember Portsmouth NH

my heart is totally broken over these diamonds that have been in our family for over 100 years I was entrusted with them for our family and now they are gone! It may seem like it just money to someone, but these were so much more for our family Now, there gone and I will never get them back!

I stayed one night on my own to get a little peace and quiet away, and this place was absolutely perfect Super easy check-in and check-out, the inn itself was cozy, clean, and very welcoming I stayed in Room 6, love the decor and simplicity

Beds were heaven This is a gem, thank you! I will definitely be back! Also, I really appreciated the mocha coffee to go:)

My husband and I stayed here for our 2nd anniversary We had a fantastic stay! We were surprised with champagne to celebrate our anniversary, had an amazing view from our bedroom window, and were shocked at how quiet the Inn was! The location is great! Just a quick trip into downtown Kittery or the outlets, and a short, 3 min drive over the bridge to Portsmouth Overall, our stay at the Water Street Inn was perfect!

Cam Bradley

I am not even sure where to start First, the had parking for every room so no need to worry about where the car is going for the night Covid friendly doesn’t matter much to me BUT you can get into the house and your room just by using a code in case you don’t want to talk to anyone

However, I would recommend talking to the owners because they are very nice people! Just a few minutes after we arrived, they came up to our room and gave us complimentary champagne (ice cold) because we were there for our 2nd wedding anniversary! The room very nice and had everything you need to stay a few nights Shampoo, body wash, free boxed water, and the downstairs area has a nice shared fridge along with tea and coffee all the time Btw, our room had a beautiful view of the Portsmouth skylineAmazing stay and would gladly recommend to anyone who wants a nice getaway to Maine/New Hampshire

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Ale House Inn The gentleman at the front desk, I believe his name was Aiden, was extremely nice and accommodatingWe loved the common area

It is cozy and has nitro cold brew on tap, snacks, and a cribbage board (along with other games) which my husband and brother in law enjoyed playingI would definitely recommend to others and would love to stay here again

Sandra Robishaw

The contactess check in system is stressful You need the confirmation email handy, then a confirmation code texted to you, then you need to download an app and open the key there Just not ideal and too many steps

Then, the key expired after we went to breakfast so we had to call someone to help us get back in The fancy coffee self serve bar was never set up or stocked during our stay so we never got to enjoy The tub wouldn’t fill either The room was comfortable and very conveniently located (walkable to downtown), so that aspect was great

Gina T.

Old school charm, check in & out is easy Great location to all shops, the water, restaurants; all in walking distance Room was small but pretty clean

One small window with not much of a view Only spoke to one staff member; he was very polite & friendly They have a great free Nitro Cold Brew coffee area Elevator is super slow & old Took the stairs most of the time You have to pay for a parking spot I would stay again

Very nice Every member of staff we came in contact with was polite Rooms were clean

Pool was clean The grounds were nicely kept with beautiful flowers I loved the 24 hour coffee bar I wish they had iced water provided there though The breakfast spoiled us It was great everyday and I’m going to miss having a hot breakfast just down the hall Definitely a nice hotel and I recommend it

Zack Dresser

Pleased with accommodations and friendly staff Location is close to many restaurants/stores/coffee shops which was nice I accidentally left my headphone case in my room when I checked out and called and talked to Summer about it

They were really kind and helpful in looking for my lost item They found them and promptly mailed them back to me at home I am so appreciative for this hotel’s help!

Lana McEachnie

Everything else was great but I’m all about the cleanliness of the bathroom We were in room 208 and I couldn’t shower before leaving this morning because the shower had so much mold I took pictures

Also, we were awakened at 4am by a loud pinging noise – I think from someone above us showering I took a video It came from in the walls and stopped when the shower was done Do better Hampton Inn!! Edited to say: Regarding your response, I’m confused as to why you’re asking me to spend more of my time to reach out to you again The pictures show the problem, the room number – I would hope you’ve already sent someone in to fix this Have a good day

Would NOT recommend staying here!! Rooms are small, bathtub gross They never told us the pool was closed which was the only reason we booked this hotel We left the hotel right after check in to go somewhere else (that was nicer and MUCH better!)

They refused to cancel or give me a refund Worst customer service ever!! I asked if I could go through Expedia to get a refund and they said if Expedia called they would tell them not to give me a refund They also ran my card for $114 and when I looked at my bank acct it said it was run for $164 When I called they said they charge an ‘Incidental’ Fee of $50 that eventually falls off – and they never mentioned that either!! I’ve been trying to contact the manager who is avoiding my phone calls This place was just a travesty and scam all around For $20 more we went to the Juniper Hill Hotel in Ogunquit which I 100% recommend – spacious, clean, nice rooms, friendly staff, and a working pool!
