My stay on Friday, February 25th was much more unsatisfactory than the previous nights stay I was given a room on the first floor, it was extremely noisy, the shower head needs replaced, water did not flow properly The room had a damp feeling, and it had an unpleasant odor

The breakfast was absolutely awful Muffins are all you can spare to give people for breakfast????Shame on you You could have fresh fruit, and other breakfast products that would not break the bank!!! Coffee was good My 3rd floor room the previous night was a completely different experience I was comfortable, it was quiet, no smell I never expected the second night to be anything less than I had experienced the the night before

Dayan Escobar

The smell of the entire place was degustingThe bathroom wasn’t clean They didn’t even changed the toilet paper from the people that was previously there

The place was very noisy I could hear people having sex during quiet hoursThe staff members were not very friendlyThe only good thing was the location Otherwise I would give this hotel 1 start

We stayed at the hotel

8 months ago I never left a view Great service I needed a place to stay the night before my surgery See we live a hour away so this helped us out very much We were given a breakfast bag due to the breakfast bar was closed A huge shout out the the group of ladies in the meeting room, sewing there hearts out on those sewing machines Very friendly Also great my PS4 hooked right up to the TV We will be back Thanks

Mary, the night desk lady, was super friendly and accommodating for a late night check-in and assisted us in getting 2 roll away beds Megan, the morning desk lady, was super friendly at assisting in additional morning shower towels! The breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve seen at a Marriott Property The rooms, amenities, decor, etc

was modern and very clean Everyone was super inviting and friendly, even for a one night stay

Richard Marmorstein

Made us and our two dogs feel so welcome when we checked in, even handed us some dog biscuits! That meant a lot Some “dog-friendly” hotels make you feel like your dogs are barely tolerated, but here we felt very welcomeIt was really great to have the dishes/dishwasher/full-sized fridge

The pool was great, open until 11

Very nice hotel to go toVery clean, nice and helpful employees The room I was in was very spacious, comforting, and came with a lot more than I expected

Bathroom was a good size with lots of room to moveCons:* Shower faucet was not my liking and not convenient* Placement of AC was a big no for me personally* Lamp lights were fine, but would have preferred other sources of light

George Latkey

Clean, comfortable, great staff, easy check in and check out Great food but pricey, however you get what you pay for Probably one of the best places for a conference in the state

Has shuttle service which is very convenient Keep some cash handy to tip the concierge staff They are extremely helpful and a couple bucks for the shuttle service to be dropped off or picked up is definitely worth it

Mark Brennan

The hotel and surrounding areas are beautiful, including an interior courtyard garden that’s visible from the rooms The staff was very courteous and friendly The rooms are nothing extraordinary, but they were pleasant and the beds were comfortable

It is located at a great spot on campus, within walking distance of the Nittany Lion statue and several main campus buildings Our stay was paid for by the alumni association so I can’t speak to the price/value, but overall it was an enjoyable stay

Stayed here with my crew (I’m a photographer) last weekend The whole day occurred at the venue, from the morning through to the ceremony and the event It went great

Was very convenient for everything to be in one place with the space to host it all with room to spareThe room was nice and had a pullout couch, too, which was greatWould definitely recommend The Penn Stater to anyone looking to host an event or wedding in the areaWill come back to this review to post pics!

Christopher Jones

Everyone from the front desk staff to the servers to housekeepers were very friendly The fastest hotel elevators I’ve ever been in My 2 queen bed room was very clean and very cozy with a very comfortable bed

little bonus- I was on the 4th floor and there was a great view of the horizon over the trees the only petty gripe I have is that the bathroom was small The hotel has 2 restaurants, The Pub and The Garden Breakfast at the garden was standard breakfast, I didn’t get a chance to have the Sunday brunch but it looked incredible The Pub has a nice assortment of salads and sandwiches I had the Caesar and House Steak salad and both were great They are known for their Reuben and there is a good reason for it it was incredible! The crispy coated french fries were great also You will not leave there hungry, i guarantee it The fitness center has a nice little variety of machines with some weights Nothing exciting but totally gets the job done The pool area looked clean, but I didn’t partake The campus/ downtown area and major stores are within a 5 minute drive Would stay there again for sure

JJ

I wasn’t there for a conference, just an overnight stay Staff, pub and lobby are great But, the industrial design of the early 90s interior isn’t holding up

If hospital designs are your thing, you’ll feel rejuvenated at the Penn Stater Come on! Isn’t this supposed to be Penn State? Work that junk! In the rooms, let’s see some PSU blue and white, add some nice Penn State prints to the walls, and for god’s sake, put blankets/comforters on the beds for some weight- it felt like I was sleeping under a curtain runner Check! You’ll also see that reasonably sized TVs have come down incredibly from 2005- no need for guests to fumble with binoculars So, great people, great downstairs But, upstairs it has only slightly more charm and sophistication of a local maternity ward or mental hospital Sort of weird

Vik Ohstrom

My stay was wonderful! Hotel staff were extremely helpful, from helping me rearrange my stay after travel difficulties and finding a quiet place for me to take a phone call after my scheduled check out GT and Samantha were especially helpful and so nice! The quality of customer service is really what set this stay apart from other hotels I’ve stayed at The room was good and clean, very comfortable bed and nice hot shower

The free wifi was fast and reliable, allowing me to take video calls and stream shows/music I was able to both be productive and relax on my business trip, truly an excellent experience

Karl Peterman

As an IHG member, I’ve seen many HIE hotels This was the first I’ve stayed in since the pandemic and as nice as it was perhaps this location is still suffering from minor staffing issues… breakfast was definitely sub par compared with other HIE properties Hot food was not kept stocked and they ran out of cinnamon buns

Relatively minor issues though The hotel is generally clean and in good shape Our room was as expected though the AC/heat unit needed service as it was noisy- we just kept it off at night Internet seemed fine Note that our two bed unit had a walk in shower not a tub, so if you’re travelling with little ones, be sure to ask if that’s an issue for you Definitely a nice location though on the North side of campus and away from much of the downtown noise

Eric DiMemmo

I stayed there for one night July 3rd into July 4th I had a really great experience Check in was fast and easy

The room was very nice and modern The bed was extremely comfortable The room had a microwave and refrigerator, a nice TV, a desk and a comfortable couch The bathroom was beautiful I’m a very tall man and the shower was perfect The stay was very quiet and peaceful I got to just relax The complementary breakfast was small, but enjoyable Anyone complaining about anything is just being nit picky For $120 room, I was highly satisfied My only concern was the very informal checkout You basically just leave your room key and go, but overall it was a pleasant experience I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable, yet luxurious option

Beds were comfortable Breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty We were there for the weekend but decided to leave after my daughter didn’t make the team she was trying out for, they only charged me one night without me even asking, wow! Dana Halkowski

Very comfortable, extremely clean and quiet The host was friendly and gracious We had a room on the second floor

These second floor rooms have a very high vaulted ceiling, making it feel airy and roomy There are windows on both sides of the room-one set looks out on a residential neighborhood, but because you are on the second floor, you are not looking directly into anyone’s house There are also windows on the hallway side, but they are near the top of the vaulted ceiling so you can keep the curtains open for light without having other guests look into your roomThe room is extremely quiet The night we were there, every room was filled, but we did not hear any sounds from the other rooms or the hallwayAbsolutely best value in State College! We paid nearly three times as much for a room at a different hotel on our last visit The Roadway Inn beats that one for cleanliness, comfort and staff friendliness

Thomas Price

I stayed at this location on a prior occasion It is a very nice motel Clean and a good location

On my most recent trip to State College, I stopped by the motel,, and I made reservations for a future stay

Call 📞(810) 545-8210 a 11 night stay at this hotel through It an incredible deal In fact, it was such a great deal, I still can’t figure out how the hotel can make any money Just $60 a night for 2 persons with free breakfast and daily cleaning

The rooms are clean and there is free parking (which is a big bonus) There is a laundry room that operates only using coins but the reception will happily convert your notes to quartersFor all of these reasons, it deserves 5 stars, but what really endeared e to this place was the staff I happened to reach the place at 11am after a long 5 hour drive from New York I know the check in is only after 3 pm but decided to give it a try anyway The reception lady was very helpful After finding there is a room available, she did an early check in for meExcellent place to stay in State College

Scott P.

Surpassed expectations Melissa at the front desk was lively, friendly and helpful She made us feel welcome and set the tone for the entire stay

The woman running the breakfast service checked in routinely to make sure we had everything we needed, to which the answer was yes Ample options for a great free breakfast I enjoyed a crisp malted Belgium waffle There was also yogurt and juice Something you don’t see too often are ready to heat egg ham and cheese muffin sandwiches The room was immaculate, smelled fresh and looked clean and well maintained I will look for Sleep branded hotels in the future based on my stay here

It just barely hit the 3 star mark for me While it’s a newer hotel therefore cosmetically it doesn’t call for a lot what it is lacking is overall deep cleaning As well all of the side entrance doors that your suppose to have your key card to enter stay unlocked making it possible for anyone to gain access regardless if they are staying here or not

The phone in the room doesn’t work The bathtub backed up with water while showering The breakfast was ok The cinnamon rolls were the highlight of the options available for breakfast The area seems safe There is a sheets gas station located extremely close which is great for food options The experience def isn’t & wasn’t worth the $170/night we paid whatsoever!

I can’t help much hereI was only there for a few hours for our nursing agency’s mandatory skills training

howeverwe were in a small conference room so there were only 2-3 nurses plus maybe 5 or 6 instuctors in a certain block period of timethe problem was there was no a/c in the roomthe desk clerk had tried to change the thermostat setting but got nowhere as it appeared to be preset and locked at that settingthere was no airflow so finally one of the instructors opened one of the doors to get a little airflowif I was a business paying for the use of a small conference room I would complain as it was too hot for comfortit was in the low 90’s outdoors so it was very uncomfortable with no airflow

Karla M

We stay here for work It’s always clean, and comfortable Housekeepers are always kind

Front desk are there to help when you need them Whenever we had any issues they explained the situation and made us feel better Wish the pool was open all season! And, if you have issues with the TV, I was told there’s always a tech guy on site 👍

9Mbps internet speed This was not one of those hotels where you get the bedroom and then an entry room Just one small room, although the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet

The breakfast was OK, although they only had those little oatmeal packets rather than the simmering bowl of oatmeal like their competitors All in all, good, but not great

Phoned Leek25 (Redstone Works)

High quality spacious rooms with very comfy beds, and good bathroom area Wifi is a bit wacky (sometimes lags for no reason randomly + small bandwidth) The “free breakfast” is literally just a cheese & egg sandwich home made by then and it is of bad quality

Like I would eat their sandwich only if I had $5 to my name Location of hotel is very convenient with many convenience stores and food areas located all around Overall it’s a good hotel Though I think you could find easily better/cheaper alternatives I had to pick this one because it’s one of the rare few that accept 18 year olds (literally 2 in state college)

Thompson JT

It’s an ok hotel as an option if you need to be in the Penn State area It’s only 10 minutes from the campus It’s relatively clean for it’s price and brand

Some baby brown ants in the room and the bathroom HVAC vent looked like it needed to be vacuumed badly The amenities were nice in the room and the Continental breakfast was more than adequate and had the typical Belgian waffle do it yourself stuff I love that

Family reunion in a meeting room Room was nice with a good table for a business meetingFriendly staff

“Quiet hours” after 10pmSign in the lobby said “housekeeoing service on request” (not daily in every room) – this makes a lot of sense, especially with staffing shortages which seem to be everywhere

Michele Walker

Excellent Location and Staff was so accommodating The continental breakfast was great There were so many choices between French toast, waffles, bacon, variety of cereals, oatmeal, fruits, muffins, hot chocolate, coffee, variety of teas and more things I can’t remember

The room was comfortable and very clean I come up every year around this time to work and always stay here and I am never disappointedIt was sad to see that the restaurant was closed We always eat at the restaurant next door but unfortunately it was closed down this year

FRAUDULENT BUSINESS- DO NOT MAKE A HOTEL RESERVATIONWe booked a hotel reservation at Carnegie House and received an electronic confirmation however, when we arrived at the hotel they claimed that they did not have a reservation for us We asked if they had a room and the front desk manager said that he did not know and he needed to call his manager who was not onsite He refused to call the manager in front of us and instead went into the back to call

When he came back he said that they did not have a room Clearly they had a room because he had the hotel computer in front of him He said that the manager did not answer, so how did he suddenly know that he did not have a room?He also said that they were having issues with 3rd party sites overbooking the hotel However, we did not book with a 3rd party site We booked with the hotel directly If they knew that they were having issues with overbooking, why did they not bother to alert everyone who had a reservation online that there may be a problem? We had traveled from the West Coast and this happened at 9:45 PM, so it was very late and we had no place to stayWhat is very odd is that I called the hotel the day before to check on amenities in the room We were left a message by the hotel to say that they were looking forward to our arrival Another odd thing is that they had our personal information in their system How was that possible if they did not have our reservation? We had never stayed at the hotel beforeThe front desk person said that the manager would contact us first thing the next morning when she was back in Of course, we never heard anything the next day or any day afterUnless you want to be stranded in State College without a room, I recommend that you NOT make a reservation to stay at this hotel

Restaurant review (I did not stay)The chefs do a really good job of preparing classy dishes that aren’t pretentious That’s actually a hard act to pull off, and both times I went here I was satisfied

Everything I had was superb, but the real winners tonight were the wild mushroom risotto and the lamb wellington My immediate impression was that the apple dessert is probably the crown jewel of the desert menu, but I wound up going with the chocolate tart instead I don’t even normally like fruit with my chocolate, but honestly I couldn’t think of any way to possibly improve that dish even if I wanted to It was really greatThe vegetables in the salads were succulent and, from my taste, fresh I think they’re grown locally The chilled lobster salad was also very good, but don’t be afraid to add a little more pepper if the server offers itOn that note, the wait staff was also phenomenal (Toni also was an excellent server) The food and service were timed perfectlyThe only quibble I have is that I wish they didn’t serve the oysters on a bed of seaweed I get that it’s fragrant and adds to the presentation of the dish, but I personally don’t like inedible, decorative components on my plate That said, that’s more personal preference than anything (and I still order these every time I go)If you’re on the fence, this a great option in State College for fine dining Give it a shot

While in town for graduation we decided to stay at Carnegie house and had a delightful time The front desk was extremely helpful, and accommodated us throughout the trip The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, and the bathrooms were quite large

We’d definitely come back!
