Best value for an excellent hotel on the island! The bar and restaurant on the premises are very convenient with great food and live music enjoyed with toes in the sand overlooking the beach! Our room was nice and clean, very comfortable bed! The staff were incredibly courteous and helpful and maintained great communication during the whole stay, ensuring we had clean towels and sheets when needed The beach right off the hotel is close and has beautiful sunrises Right around the corner to the southwest in front of the neighboring property is another beach that was calmer and even has a shallow protected area for kids

We also took advantage of the free bike rentals at the hotel and took the bike path along the coast for around 6 miles one way The bike path starts very close to the hotel, passes several beautiful beaches, and is nice and flat We took advantage of the hotel’s hot tub almost every night of our stay Its nice and warm 🙂 We highly recommend getting a pool/garden view room so you can sit on the patio and enjoy the views Only thing that would be good to improve if possible would be the small sink area in the bathroom, but we recognize that they are limited in what they can do within the footprint of the rooms without major renovations We hope to come back and stay again!

First of all there is no elevator and no bell boy service and the old guy at the front desk when we arrived in the height of summer was unhelpful with directions No bell boy is fine as it’s a 3 star hotel but then the rooms weren’t super clean They seemed clean from the top but the bathroom was wet and the phone in our initial room didn’t work

Good location and beach front which was fantastic Make sure to book sea view rooms as those are the ones that faces the main pool and ocean The pool view rooms faces a pool in the back that will make you feel like you are in a very cheap motel and depressing to be honest We paid over 200 some odd dollars a night so didn’t want that 4 star because it is rated as a 3 star hotel Service isn’t the best from some of the front staff and the microwave isn’t in every building and it was dirty I let the staff and the front desk know but it wasn’t cleaned not even once during my entire 4 night stay The beach and lava lava restaurant which is separate entity from the hotel is what made me give this place 4 star and the fact that the manager accommodated our requests The staffs are hit or miss Some are exceptionally great like you’d expect form hospitality staff at a hotel but the old guy shouldn’t be working in the front

Carrie Ehasz

This is a cute, quaint, nostalgic Hawaii hotel It has a throwback to the 60s vibe it’s open and airy and right on the water

They have an amazing restaurant as well All of the dining tables are literally in the sand Toes in the sand right on the water! The staff was friendly and accommodating doesn’t get much better! You will not be disappointed to enjoy your stay on Kauai at Kauai Shores!

Nice hotel! We had one of the newly renovated rooms, which was clean and modern (although the mattress was a bit lumpy) Staff was uniformly nice and helpful Pool was huge (five hot tubs!) and we never felt like we were fighting for lounge chairs

Beach was fine — probably good for paddle boarding and playing in the waves, but you’ll need to go elsewhere if you want to snorkel Location was nice; there weren’t a lot of other resorts around, so the town of Lihue felt a little less touristy than, say, Poipu And the beaches of Poipu and the restaurants in Kapa’a were both a short drive away (And there were still some nice little shops and restaurants nearby, including my favorite coffee place on the island) The hotel is still under renovation, but I barely noticed the construction at all Similarly, even though the hotel is, like, 5 minutes away from the airport, there was no plane noise or anything (except maybe once or twice when I mistook it for distant thunder)

We just finished lunch at the restaurant The view and service were great However, the fish tacos were underwhelming

The fish was seasoned but the slaw/veggies were not The fish to veggie ratio was way off-a very small piece of fish Also, the tacos was served with and enormous amount of sour cream and a two big slices of jalapeño- not edible I would not order this again

We arranged to have dinner at the fine dining restaurant at Timbers The photos online of the food preparation looked beautiful and enticing Timbers assured us they would shuttle us to their restaurant and back to our resort

Well, that did not happen They were too busy to keep their commitment to pick us up and shuttle us to Timbers from the Marriott Resort We shrugged that off and found transportation After dinner, we were surprised that the concierge said they were understaffed and would not be able to shuttle us back to the resortand it was rainingThe food was decent enough but not worth going to Timbers I think they really need to staff up and ensure that they can keep their promises before they reach out for people to come visit their Hualani restaurant

No a/c and we felt this was not promoted or mentioned anywhere on their website Google should update the amenities since it is misleading It felt like fancy camping because you can hear everyone else around and above you since all doors and windows are open for air flow

Scenery is beautiful but can be very windy No walking trails Restaurant and coffee house both closed unexpectedly and we did not get notice Friendly staff At times you feel like an intruder because units are all privately owned Certain folks gave off status vibes and owners tend to dominate common areas On the flip side we met some very friendly and nice owners too Overall with taxes and resort fees it cost about $500/night which we felt was not worth the cost Exploring the remote part of the island was a cool experience but now that we’ve done it we probably wouldn’t come back We appreciated reading about their efforts to help the community during the flood(s)

Claudia Imperato

I live on Maui and still totally amazed how incredibly gorgeous Hanalei is I would recommend this resort if you don’t want the overpriced and hotel cookie cutter experience This place had a local, almost old Hawaii vibe that I love and find very relaxing

The pool area is new etc but who cares you have insane beaches/rivers etc close by The free shuttle operated by Tyler was 5 star He is awesome and loves showing people his Hanalei The only negatives are the units are individually owned and our unit was pretty dated The coffee machine was so cheap and the kitchen cupboards could have been upgraded Our friends units were way newer The other thing that was a bit lame was check out is at 10:00am and the front desk lady called Lei called me at 10:01 am to make sure we were getting out it was almost funny but It kinda ruined the vibe that the other distaff had created Kewake is also front desk and she is all Aloha

Harm Wilkinson

First timers to the islands what a wonderful secluded resort Our room was right on the water overlooking the bay

Sunrises were spectacular Staff were all very helpful They were still working their way through new arrangements with Covid, so not all services were available but if we needed anything, all we had to do was ask We are returning in 2023, already booked!

While the location is good that is where it ends with this resort At check in they want you to sign up for a “resort update” This is not an update but rather a timeshare presentation for Wyndham

Our room was in the “Canoe” building This building needs a lot of TLC Upon arrival our key card wouldn’t work as there was a problem with the key pad The room had a musty smell, furnishings are dated , sofa needs cleaning, sofa bed mattress is stained The room needs a good cleaning and makeover Maintenance of the building is poor There is no housekeeping services provided unless your stay is over 10 days If you want a change of towels or sheets you need to request them and they will only deliver them to your room A broom is provided for you to use if you want clean floors We booked a rental vehicle through the resort and were charged for 2 additional days They acknowledged that this was their error however would not give us a refund There is no management at the resort with authority to offer refunds Decisions are made by a staff member talking to their supervisor by phone who is living on a different island Definitely would not recommend this resort

David Burton

Nice ocean views from most every room and you have a full kitchen Beautiful sunrise’s Nice pool with Beach Boy tiki bar with food

Beach not for swimming, but very scenic Very well manicured gardens and grounds Large shopping area across the hotel parking lot Reservations need to be made far in advance (a week) for the restaurant This is primarily a timeshare resort, so everything should be pre-paid if you stay a week, but this one charges an extra $10 per day upon arrival? New for me?

James Suarez

The walls are paper thin You can hear your neighbors snoring at night the walls are so thin The plaza across the street is convenient! Great breakfast at the market across the street

Most likely wont stay here again At least the entrance looks pretty! One more Less star for not being helped properly at the concierge, I’m not old so they must not think I have money

This is such a good find if you want something away from it all and easy access to the whole island It is a simple Inn with a lot of surprising perksThe staff are amazing and they make you feel at home from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave

The room itself is very comfortable with multiple options for pillows The air-conditioning is definitely a plus and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have encountered at a hotelThey offer free coffee and tea 24 hours a day and has a huge variety of flavored syrup to add in The coffee is grown right there on the island! The breakfast is simple, but filling with oatmeal (complete with mix-ins), assorted pastries, and fresh citrusThere are towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, and coolers you can borrow for any day of your stayThey have a few hotel cats who are super friendly and one who made our trip even better Tigger stayed in our room every night to provide comfort and companyOverall, I would highly recommend this as the place to stay on Kauai! We will definitely be back!

Karen Borger

We had a wonderful stay here for our 40th anniversary The staff surprised us with complimentary wine! The grounds were beautifully landscaped, and we enjoyed the mountain views We were treated to the most beautiful rainbow we’ve ever seen, right by our room! Amazing

The hotel offers beach chairs, umbrellas, etc for guests to borrow Such a great idea The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful Our room was supplied with fresh towels every day, and we appreciated the refrigerator (larger than expected!) and microwave

Michael Medina

The warm welcome and Aloha are felt right from the start when you are greeted at the Front Desk Complimentary coffee and tea are offered 24/7, and so is breakfast in the morning The ice machine works and is clean

The room is clean The bathroom is clean The grounds are clean The pool is clean Really excellently maintained Plus there are beach gears that you can borrow, as well as pool towels The water pressure is surprisingly strong, which is not always the case for hotels these days It’s close to convenience stores, restaurants and beaches We’re definitely coming back and staying here again

This is our first time at this property and after visiting several other Marriott Villas, this is the nicest The rooms have more space, larger laundry area and they have the double sliders which open your entire room up to the patio The staff was polite and also demonstrated excellent customer service when we asked for items for the villa

David Wright

This is the 7th Vacation Club property I have stayed at These rooms are by far the most spacious and best layout of the other places The master bath is great

I love the shower The walkout to the balcony provides incredible views The negative to this resort is it doesn’t have beach access nor does it have a bar Honestly Costco and Target are 2 miles away and both display a wide variety of beer, liquor and wine We went to the ocean twice, but preferred the pool The ocean was rough and weather hit or miss for the 6 days we were hereAlso if you think of the main road going around Kauai as a U, the resort is in the bottom right of the U You are at most a 45 minute drive to anywhere on the island

Chris Boggs

We enjoyed our stay here and would book it again It does require having a rental car, but you could say that for most places if you plan to truly explore the island It would be nice if they get on the same page with Timbers and help guests navigate to the shoreline walk by the golf course, which is allowed even though someone at the desk made it seem taboo

Such a beautiful hotel, we chose a oceanfront room and our room was pretty much close to the sea We had an amazing stay , for the six day we were there , they cleaned our room just once You can get fresh water and towels every morning at the reception

There is a really good restaurant next to the hotel and if you are staying at the hotel you can get free appetizers at this restaurant Bull Shed

Kevin Hoover

We had a one night stay (we are on the island for 3 weeks and had a 1 day gap) and we’re able to check in early (1:00 pm vs the normal 3:00 pm) Our room on the second floor at the end of the second building is nice & clean and has a great view of the ocean

Double beds and a small bathroom, mini fridge and coffee maker, a large TV and multiple USB ports on the lamps and the small clock The balcony was nice and has two chairs (not very comfortable for long stays) and a small table The Grab & Go breakfast was okay, considering what the pandemic has done to normal communal breakfasts We also “rented at no charge” a couple of bikes for a half hour trip on a nearby path The staff are friendly and efficient in their tasks A nice “ boutique” hotel with great views!Only negative comment would be about the chickens that are everywhere! The roosters are doing their thing all day and night and it becomes annoying very quickly, but it seems to be part of the Hawaiian experience these days

Kelly

Everything about this hotel is it’s proximity to the ocean It seems that almost any room has an ocean view – if not directly facing, from a side balcony As others have mentioned there is a small table & two chairs on the balcony which allow you to sit outside but aren’t very comfortable

The property however is very dated – I would NEVER call it a boutique hotel as indicated on the websiteWhen you reserve you can’t select bed type (listed as double or king) We arrived late after delayed travel – I didn’t even think to indicate that a king was preferred (as we’re a couple) Ended up with two doubles and just slept Lucy & Ricky style Just seems like you should be able to select bed type with your reservation I take responsibility for not asking to change it but was frankly too tired on arrival and we only stayed three nightsThis has the potential to be a great hotel if they worked it’s mid century style design and did some necessary rehab But currently the building just feels like a sad, old hotel that needs serious renovation As far as our room, maybe we ended up with a weird one? It was on the second floor & was a rather strange room with beams interrupting the corners of the room (so you couldn’t even walk out one of the sliding doors b/c the beam was in the way) There appeared to be somewhat newish carpeting but looks like there was a left over border of short pile orange carpet around the edges which was bizarre (& smelled musty) The louver window frame in the bathroom is literally eroding around the edges & corners (and does face the walkway) One of our sliding doors wouldn’t lock (which is really basic upkeep) There are fire pits on the property, but one of the nights we wished to use them, they weren’t even lit (and the weather would have allowed it) Overall we selected this room based on other reviews and the site images The images must be from their best or most rehabbed room? One positive, the room does have an A/C unit, but you can get by with screen doors & an overhead fan and hear the oceanSomething I’ve noticed lately – at this hotel and a few others There seems to be a very fine line between a two and three star hotel While this is listed as a three, I don’t think filtered water in the lobby, a free water bottle and having a yoga class in the morning should categorize it as such – I would consider it more of a two 1/2 given the overall condition of the hotel & our room (maybe others are in better shape?) I say this comparatively to the four star hotel we stayed at on another part of the island – difference was beyond vast

I’ve done it all inclusive with a swim-up bar Sometimes it’s not fun to be surrounded by 20 drunk people in the same pool This was an amazing experience I highly suggest looking at the pictures others have posted the insides of these rooms are remodeled and are an absolute beautiful experience

Perfectly located within walking distance of the grocery store and a few restaurants During my stay the beach was still being worked on so there is no sand but you can still walk around and enjoy the new ecosystem with the rocks The only downside was and I don’t know if this is the case in every room but our two bedroom had a pull out bed couch thing in one of them and my fiance was six months pregnant Not enough to lose a star but be aware of this

Kay Doolittle

We hoped with extra covid travel requirements in early Dec 2021, we’d have a quieter & more relaxing stay vs many prior visitsSadly two other units brought screaming babies with them (why – your children were constantly crying??) & someone also had a dog that barked (never knew animals were even allowed @ KK and we’ve been coming here for decades

That said; unit was clean, well stocked and very comfortable Pool was a little cold; but doable

We had an amazing stay The beach was literally a minutes walk Our neighbors were fairly quiet

It was very relaxing and loved the area right outside our place to exercise They stocked us up with everything we would need Soap, shampoo, some laundry pouches, towels, and a guide book The space felt like home while out here for work I would definitely come back here

STAY AWAY!!! I stayed at other locations throughout Kauai and this is by Far the worst one You have no sense of Hawaii at all because of the location in Kapaa is so touristy and corporate But not to mention the dead end location with a drop box for parking info?? Trying to navigate through the cement paths to find our little condo

Once we get in it smelled like a dirty motel room Everything is outdated and the bathroom can barely fit one person The “king sized bed” we asked for, yea that’s just 2 twin sized beds pushed next to each other with a memory form sheet so cheap that it hangs off extra on the bed The best part of this place is the patio view!!! Gorgeous back drop to the right But not worth the cost to stay here Trust me, there’s definitely better places

I LOVED this resort! We just got back form 13 days there and I didn’t want to leave! It is set in a private community so even driving into the resort was beautiful, set on a golf course and well maintained houses all around as you drive in The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable and the food in the restaurant was delicious!!! If I ever visit Kauai again I wouldn’t even bother looking at other places! It was pretty much perfect! Parking was a bit of an issue it seemed due to outside visitors coming to eat at the restaurant but that was pretty minimal and some stuff was under construction, but it never interrupted anything The walk to the beach was a nice healthy and beautiful walk and they have drivers in carts for anyone who couldn’t or didn’t want to make it on foot

The view from the beach was breathtaking!Mountains and ocean, what is better than that? The staff was friendly and attentive and the pool and hot tub were beautiful! One of a kind resort:) I’d highly recommend this place!

This resort was amazing, the view from any of the buildings is great and it is peaceful, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony when we’re not swimming in the bay Accommodations are very roomy and clean They provide beach towels so need to pack those and you can exchange them for fresh ones everyday if you need to

The pool is beautiful and a great option if you have had enough sand and surf for the day It is quiet after 10pm and you can really enjoy having your patio doors open and sitting out enjoying the night air

I have been coming here for years If you stay for a few nights you definitely won’t regret itSuch a beautiful view if you have an oceanside room It had everything we needed and was very clean and cared for We didn’t really use any of the pool amenities but the room was a great place to chill between our many adventures on the island!

Bryan

Solid location, right next to the beach The pool was wonderful and they have many activities to do They just refurbished their tennis court

The rooms are well equipped with amenities Highly recommend, especially if you’re part of the timeshare We had a party of 12 in four rooms and no complaints Located in a god distance from all the island has to offer Will and would come again

Love it Love Kauai And this location is great if you want to be in the middle and you want to go to North Shore and you want to go to South Shore

It’s right on the ocean so you can hear the waves at night, and wake up to a glorious sunrise coming over the ocean The rooms are good, they’re clean, the bed was comfortable It’s not a five star all inclusive resort, so don’t expect that

Beautiful small hotel right on the water Hands down the MOST comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept on Rooms are right on the water with beautiful sunrise views

Would have given 5 stars but the rooms need some updating and minor repairs in the restroom The staff was incredible and the pool is amazing I would definitely stay here again Everything you need is within walking distance

Mae Taurus54

Solo female traveler , stayed here for a day The room was clean and from my room the view was a amazing The only complaint I had was the A/C, it didn’t work very well

The reason being for the 5 stars is for their customer service I had a tour from 9am to 3pm I needed someone to watch my luggage, until the tour was over So I was able to get my luggage and leave straight out for my flight

Wow this hotel was beyond anything we expected The location of it is amazing and its very centrally located, the service was top-notch and the offered free amenities like bikes and movies We got to talk to one of the ladies that worked here and she mentioned that it was family owned and that the staff is well taken care of

My only regret was booking this through bookingcom and not direct so that more of the money would have gone to the property! If you like to support small and local while getting the service of a high-end hotel this is the place to stay

No exaggeration when I say, the best place we’ve ever stayed on a vacation We were originally planning on staying only 2 nights and then going to a resort, but Alexis convinced us to do the whole stay here and thank goodness she did The views are breathtaking, the food is amazing, and the bed was probably cozier than my own at home

There’s nothing like coming back after a long day out and relaxing on the porch looking out over the valley while enjoying some of the delicious food they keep stocked 24 hours a day The entire staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, they were able to provide great recommendations for places to go and see and what to do during our stay We will be coming back for sure!

Nicolette Devlin

This place is incredible! The view from the balcony is breathtaking Alexis and Mike were so amazing and super accommodating If you are looking for a place that is a true getaway this is the spot for you

The breakfast was so tasty, the salt water pool facing the gardens was so beautiful and Alexis/Mike were so helpful in things to do on the island! We will definitely be back:)

Heather Edwards

We had the most amazing stay at Marjorie’s for our honeymoon We stayed in the Tradewinds and had a large lanai with beautiful, sprawling jungle views, which made for a great sunset watch Jim made delicious diverse breakfasts each morning and was so friendly and inviting

They have everything you need for a beach day (chairs, coolers, snacks) which made it super easy Would absolutely stay here again!

We are Marriott members and stayed at the other Sheraton in Kauai and it was wonderful We wanted to stay at a different location to explore all of the island so we picked this Sheraton as well While we loved the location of our room that was a partial ocean view, it was a small room

But the view was great and we loved waking up in the morning and just walking out to the beach from the room That was our favorite part of the stay here However, for some reason it was really difficult to get enough shower gel for 2 people! Shower gel was not replenished in the rooms daily Next time we will have to bring our own shower gel and shampoo Our shower was terrible and both the shower and faucet for the tub would run at the same time Also, our room key expired after the first night so we had to wait for an engineer to go to our room to charge the door before we could get in back in really late at night We noticed there is basically no security at this hotel as anyone could walk into the buildings where our rooms were I wish that there was a code to get into the door or that we would have to use our room key to access the door Also, as Marriott members, we get later check out everywhere but they were only able to extend it an hour, which didn’t help because we wanted somewhere to relax right before our flight back but it was not enough time so we had to go elsewhere to wait

After reading some less than stellar reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect, but we had a great experience at this resort We had an ocean view room that was extremely spacious, quiet, clean, comfortable (& cool thanks to AC), with a fantastic view The staff were very friendly and we loved the amenities like the beach chairs, beach umbrellas, bikes, towels, and refillable water stations

We also liked that they had cultural activities (lei making, ukulele classes) and we felt so lucky that we happened to be staying there on a night when a free local event was being held that included a lei contest and live music/hula show We truly felt the spirit of Aloha at this event! The pool and hot tub were very nice and it wasn’t difficult to get a pool chair when you wanted one The location was great – centrally located to go explore the island and near lots of dining options I am very sensitive to noise and we did not have any problems whatsoever My only complaint is that we were not able to earn points for our stay since it was booked through Costco travel Hopefully we can come back again soon, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at this resort It is located in arguably the best/central location of the island It is 45 min from south or north shore

Another underrated aspect of the hotel is its size While it isn’t a large resort, it has everything a resort should but not overwhelming The service was really exceptional Food at breakfast/cafe/pool was good Overall room had all amenities one would need and was nicely appointed

Overall this is a beautiful resort in a great location We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants, shopping, and the beach The grounds are immaculate and absolutely beautiful

The front staff could be a little more friendly and helpful Our room was much smaller than we expected from the pictures Also, the provided bamboo tripod for hanging towels on the lanai needs to be attached to the wall While I was sitting outside, the wind blew and it hit me in the head I’m glad it didn’t fall on my 3 year old This is a great resort overall and I would stay here again

George N

Great location, lovely and well maintained grounds, friendly staff Close to eating and shopping venues (walking distance), so you don’t always need your car Coconut Marketplace nearby with a decent market for food and coffee

Nice pool and poolside bar Room was fine, liked having the refrigerator, sink and microwave Nice lanai to enjoy the ocean view Can swim at the beach in front of the resort, but need to be careful Kid friendly beach very close by A/C Parking was pretty full, so could be a challenge some evenings Will be back, was the perfect resort for us

Lori Reynolds

Great location on the beach, walkable to shops and restaurants Very friendly and helpful staff The grounds are pretty and immaculately kept

They have a beach/pool bar with happy hour from 3-6Older resort but well maintained Reasonable nightly rates compared to many in area Only negative is that most of the rooms are small for more than 2 people
