I have stayed in a LOT of hotels and this one is amazing! The history behind it alone is reason to come back but the interior is a perfect combination of the historic building and modern touches The grounds are pristine and beautiful, good selection of food and beverages in the market, a clean but homey smell throughout I will absolutely be coming back!

Joe King

Wonderful inn Modern touches expertly woven in with older architecture If you like old wooden interiors but the comforts of modern furnishings and bathrooms then this is the place to stay

Very clean as well The Second Chance Bistro offered excellent dinners and breakfasts The staff is very friendly and conversational and very helpful as well Only a short walk from the hotel to the heart of downtown Staunton Look forward to returning there in the spring

When we got to our room, we found that the smell of dog wasn’t to our liking, when I called she QUICKLY gave us a New room and even met us at the elevator to give us updated keys You know things cant be perfect, to me, its how you Correct mistakes that matters!Jacquie even let me get breakfast early and ya GOT to LOVE That!Steve at the desk made sure that my travel would be 10% happier

people who love to be nice should be paid more!

Stephen G

For a non-plus BW, they do a great job Friendly staff greeting upon enteringroom clean and well prepped

no condition in bathroom? What’s up with that? Breakfast is what you would expect from a standard BW, prepackaged stuff to microwave Linens and towels sufficient King bed is starting to cup at edges and should be replacedOverall facilities are well maintained with everything working, but a bit dated, like wallpaperelevator works wellEasy off and on highway or getting to town and shopping center

Lindsay Zolad Coughlan

We stayed one night on the way to our final vacation destination The place is dog friendly but it shouldn’t smell like a kennel The free breakfast was subpar

The shampoo was enough for my head let alone me and my husband The bed was soo hard and the mattress was thin we woke up sore The room was hot and stuffy no matter how much we turned up the air The whole stay was very disappointing On the way back we canceled our stay and switched to a different hotel

The Inn is absolutely gorgeous! The staff is accommodating, the room was clean and nicely arranged and we got delicious treats to enjoy (at an additional charge, but was a cute touch!) Breakfast was included in with the stay, and within walking distance is the Pippin Vinyard The scenery is amazing, we will definitely be coming back to stay in one of the larger accommodations so we can bring the children

Edit 3/13/22: Again, the annual visit left nothing wanting The rooms are clean and quiet, there is wifi connection if needed, and tons to do locally The breakfast was definitely worth the trip alone, as we haven’t had a dutch baby pancake in a long while The innkeepers are always warm and inviting, and have a great pulse on local places to see, eat, etc The inn is situated near the vineyard, which makes it a short walk over to avoid lines All in all, still a favorite of ours over other B&Bs we’ve stayed!

Jan Garrabrandt

GREAT place – you can feel the history just by looking at the lock on the door! I fell in love with the place immediately just thinking of all the folks that stayed here – some quite famous!Breakfast was yummy and since our host Jim was a history teacher, it was also super interesting Plus a great place to talk politics! We explored several wineries, the Blue Ridge tunnel, and James Monroe’s Highland Most historical sites are located nearby, along with eating in Charlottesville

Beautiful rooms filled with interesting antiques in a quiet setting Even though our weather wasn’t perfect, when the innkeeper greats you in the pouring rain holding an umbrella, you really can’t ask for any better service I should know – I’m an innkeeper myself! Don’t miss Gabriele Rausse Winery Beautiful relaxed setting with good wine, home-pressed olive oil and fresh baked baguettes YUM

We love this place!! After dropping off our youngest at UVA we decided to kick off our ’empty nest’ with a little vacation Pippin Hill is all it was cracked up to be We were absolutely thrilled how much the Inn exceeded our expectations!Room was exactly what we expected

Hot and humid outside and the a/c was able to keep up Big and comfortable bed Plenty of room to spread out Shower was exceptionally large and luxurious!Breakfast was exceptional Don’t skip breakfast – the conversations with the owner and other guests were perfect Three couples had just dropped off a kid at college, so we had much in common(other guests were there for a wedding at the inn)The owner is a wealth of knowledge about the history of the inn the surrounding area and current things happening in the areaI definitely see us returning in the future In fact, we talked with family this morning about using the inn as a place to meet in the future

I was traveling under the worst of circumstances, a death in the family I had so many things go wrong trying to make arrangements for travel and all it entails This hotel was such an oasis

The night clerk Travis was amazing at making sure I had everything I needed The room was spacious, clean, and more than I needed The price was really great for the room I would recommend this hotel anytime you’re in the area Hands down , the best service and value in the area

Kristine Shifflett

My husband and I were highly impressed with this hotel! The highlight was Gloria at the front desk She went above and beyond to make our stay special and gave us recommendations on where to go in Staunton The view is great and it’s worth getting a suite with a mountain view! We were there when it was snowing and sat in the window and enjoyed the view and the snow coming down

We did feel like our bathroom wasn’t as clean as it could have been, but maybe we just caught them on an off day Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations at this price point The breakfast, while nothing spectacular, is included and we were thankful they were even offering a warm breakfast, since a lot of hotels these days offer only light snacks because of Covid They even put warm chocolate cookies out at 8pm every night! Thank you Gloria for being so welcoming and friendly to us! You made our weekend getaway special! We will definitely be back!

Found this wonderful Bed & Breakfast online yesterday and booked it right there and then after deciding spontaneously to stay while visiting wine country for a day Linda & Wayne were nothing but nice, accommodating, with a great sense of humor and nothing less of amazing upon our arrival Since our overnight stay was unexpected and we literally had nothing with us; Linda was kind enough to offer to drive us to local stores to pick up necessities and clothes

It only got better from there – we ended up having an amazing evening with the hosts, while chatting and laughing and hearing stories about the history and a little tour of the house Our room was amazing and bed was beyond comfortable with fresh linens Next morning we enjoyed our marvelous homemade breakfast served in the most beautiful fine bone china, again in the company of wonderful hosts Entire house is very clean and truly unique Definitely makes you feel like you went back straight to early 1900’s with so much character and uniquenessHaving travelled many places in the world and stayed at various high end hotels, and this being my first B&B experience – I can say, hands down, this will be one of the most memorable stays! If you like a genuine, quaint, home away from home place – look no further! If you are looking for someone to carry your bags around, this is probably not for you However, if you’re looking for a true unique gem in wine country to make your trip truly unforgettable – this is it! Thank you Linda & Wayne for making our little adventure most memorable and making us feel truly home!

I had the best experience at Belle Hearth After a long day of drinking wine and watching polo, a friend and I made the last-minute decision to stay in the Charlottesville area while our other three friends drove home to Hampton Roads We showed up at Belle Hearth with nothing but our purses and the innkeeper, Linda offered to drive my friend to get clothes and travel necessities

While they did that, I took a much-needed nap When I woke up Linda and Wayne were so gracious They told us where to grab a bite to eat and gave us a tour of their beautiful, historic home They even taped their Sunday night shows to hang out with us It was one of those rare experiences that I am so grateful to have had They told us breakfast was at 8:30am but I think we all knew we weren’t going to make it to that So around 10:30, when we finally strolled out of our room, totally not expecting breakfast, Linda and Wayne were in the dining room and had saved breakfast for us It was so sweet, kind and unexpected I felt like I was staying at a family friend’s home the entire time It was much more comfortable than your average hotel and the hosts were the cutest I highly recommend staying at Belle Hearth It made me want to stay only at B&Bs next time I travel! Thanks for everything Linda & Wayne 🙂

If you like you Bed and Breakfast with a side of attitude and knick-knacks this one is for you! My husband and I travel frequently and this was one of the worst experiences with any kind of lodging we have ever had I encourage you to read the Yelp and lower reviews on Google and Trip Advisor as it is very consistent with our experiences They treat their guests like children instead of paying customers

Admonishing them for being “late” to breakfast after five minutes, as well as continuing to tell my husband and I (and then my mother) in front of other guests that we weren’t expected and there was not room at the table for us and they “should have been told” (my mother had explained we would be coming the second night, they were told multiple times apparently they just wanted the money but didn’t want to provide the services for the second night booked room??) To be fair, the beds were decent and room cleanliness was okay so if driving through and its your only option go for it just skip the breakfast drama They are tired of “ungrateful guests” their words not mine Personally I’m not too fond of ungrateful businesses Take your money and your vacation elsewhere (unless you enjoy this type of treatment)

We have not even spent the night yet and I have nothing but great things to say about this place Booking was simple and received information day before When we arrived Megan met up with us and she was extremely kind and helpful

She gave us a tour of the beautiful property and some general info about the place She also provided with us with everything we need to make our stay comfortable It is very clean and beautifully decorated A lot of decor I noticed was from England where I’m originally from, which really brought me back to home You can sit outside, drink coffee and watch the cows If I was to ever get married again I would definitely consider this place The room is big but very homely I just adore this place and will be back! Thank you for accommodating us at your lovely place!

What a great local place We stayed in the cottage and loved the white picket fence and landscaping We were able to view another room in the barn building and it was just as lovely with amazing views

The Saltbox Cafe

An excellent stay at this adorable and quaint B&B! The room was very comfortable, the food was scrumptious, property is well kept, clean and welcoming The owners were so nice and accommodating Loved the location

We were able to visit 7 breweries/wineries and the caverns in just a day Highly recommend Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast for anyone looking to just disconnect from the crazy world and enjoy a little R&R!

John Adams

The accommodations were amazing The house is full of history which were described in lovely books left in each cozy bedroom The hosts were very attentive to our needs, beginning with the day we actually made the reservations

They called to ask about any special needs or foods to avoid during our stay The home cooked breakfast on both days was scrumptious and very fillingOrquida and Dan were wonderful hosts and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable We are looking forward to going back

Donna Moser

We spent two nights at the B and B and the owners were so friendly and accommodating We had a flat tire on the way and arrived after midnight and they waited up for us and had the lights on and door unlocked We went on the tunnel hike and were not aware that you need flashlights and they gave us lights to use on our hike

Met up with a buddy for Fourth of July weekend and decided to stayed here The hotel itself looks great and is very clean Friendly staff and plenty of breakfast options

Conveniently off of I-81 and I-64 and just a short drive to the southern end of Shenandoah National Park (A must if you are visiting the area) Only thing that I would say is that the bed in the room was not as comfy, but manageable Overall, great place to stay for a short getaway I would recommend

Elaine Shaw

It was a halfway point on a long trip, and in the past I’ve stayed at “economic” places that were just down right nasty It was well worth spending a little more to stay at Comfort Inn! The woman at the desk at check in was awesome! Room was clean, bathroom was huge, AC worked great, and bed was super comfy! I would’ve given 5 stars but there was no regular coffee or creamer in the room for the coffeemaker, and evidently the last person that stayed left her false eyelashes behind, eww

Gino U.

No complaints with this place Room was clean, everything around it was clean and the lady at the front desk was wonderful and let me check in early after I explained my situation to her Great location near the highway as well but not close enough to hear a lot of traffic (at least I didn’t notice it)

Would recommend to anyone staying in the area

The staff were very nice but the actual hotel was not the best Confusing layout, the room was across from housekeeping which would be fine but the room smelled of strong mildew, I’m guessing from the housekeeping room itself The view was also not nice and it was confusing finding a room in the bottom level, overall would have been okay if it was a cheaper price

Not worth the money

The hotel staff was polite and professional both during check in and check out The hotel was conveniently located off the interstate with lots of restaurants and shopping near by The room was warm, clean and inviting upon arrival

I liked how there were dispensers in the bathroom for hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner The bed was not too hard or too soft and the pillows were just right The breakfast was good as well There was a lot of variety: sausage, eggs, cereal, juice and waffles Overall I loved this hotel and would stay here again in the future

Tiffanie G Hairston

I reserved a room here for the indoor pool The pool was closed without any advance warning My daughter and I were dressed for the pool, got down there and a sign on the door said it was closed with no explanation why

Front desk said sorry with no compensation Light fixtures in room were dusty and rusted Water took a long time to get hot for a shower Seemed to be a much older hotel Had to look in the closet for a rack to put suitcase on and blow dryer Those items should be out But the room didn’t have any bugs and bathroom was clean We won’t be back

Rooms were clean and guest service was excellent The outside vending machine purveyor should check their faulty equipment I had to walk to a gas station for treats 🙁 The covid breakfast is finally over and they served hot breakfasts again

The washer and dryer were convenient and detergent was available at the front desk I’d recommend it for business professionals, construction crews, but not families because the pool was outside and right now it’s covered (2/08-2/12)

Richard Jennings

We were visiting family and found this place to be convenient to where our kids live Rates were good, reviews as well So I booked 2 nights

When we got there we were greeted at the front desk by a very pleasant women and she gave us all the info we needed When got to the room, there was a slight odor, hard to describe, and we noticed the carpet was dirty and night stands had cup rings on them Which means they weren’t wiped clean We told the lady at the front desk about the dirt and she said someone would take care of it in the morning Next morning we went for breakfast Very tasty and a good selection The lady working the breakfast room was super friendly We were out for the day and when we came back to change, we found the same dirt on the floor Very disappointed, considering that we pointed out the unfinished work and they didn’t care enough to get it done Bed was very comfortable and overall the room was decent Bathroom needed to be cleaned with more attention to detail

Redd Smith

There was no shower curtain in the shower, the beds were hard, the pillows were paper thin, there was one towel for a two-bedroom room booked for four people?Oh, and the best part is we woke up covered in ants and that’s super fun The food we had brought with us, covered in ants Our clothes, covered in ants

I’m beyond disappointed with this experience

Recently went here after not going for several years, but I don’t think I’ll be going back It may be great if you’re an owner there, but for the public lift lines were simply too longI’ve been skiing for here for 35 years and never had lines this long here, even on holidays

And yes, I know one of the benefits of being an owner is to get quick-pass through lift lines, but when I see the same owners go through the line 5 times during my wait, it starts to seem a bit extremeBefore you even get to the slopes, you’ll need to find a parking spot I recommend getting there early because finding a parking spot was a nightmare The owner’s lot was of course not even half full all day, seems like it could have been better utilized These things aren’t the owner’s fault and I don’t begrudge them the privileges they paid for, this was a failure of Wintergreen to manage their resourcesI wasn’t real thrilled with lift operations safety either I worked at Wintergreen in high school, so I understand you don’t want slow down or stop the lifts unless you really have to, but some of the lift attendants were either not paying attention or didn’t know their role I saw several instances, and was involved in one where they kept the lift moving and were unloading people off at the top when someone had fallen the off-ramp Was there some room to get around them? Sure, but trying to get 5 people off a lift and all the way over to one side is pretty much impossible in 10 ftI could go on about how I was told to buy the non-refundable lift tickets before renting skis, only to find out they were sold out of skis, or about the somewhat ridiculous lack of seating in the restaurants, but I think you get the pictureThey get 2 stars because the snow was great and there weren’t any real ice patches, but next time I’m going to just drive the few extra hours and go to Snowshoe – the good just doesn’t outweigh the bad anymore

Beware If you do not get your equipment rental LOCKED down there is ZERO ability to get ANY refund for your lift tickets Rigidity at the utmost

Son purchased a lift ticket as gift to girlfriend, drove from Louisville, KY stayed, spent money in the area, etc, and when no equipment was available was not refunded at all, not even partially No equipment anywhere No rain check, no voucher Keith made it clear that refunds for injury or military deployment was available, so good news if you are called to war or break a leg you are good! The long legalese is there in fine print when you roll to the bottom of the agreement that you check off, so be sure to do that while standing in a 50 deep person line A voucher or something would’ve ensured more rolling into Nelson Co at a later date but I’m sure tourism folks and chamber will be glad to know of the taste left in mouths of visitors Beware poor college students #daysofcustomerservicearegone

My husband and I stayed here over Christmas with our two dogs in the Womack 16 room Our stay was incredible! Our dogs were so comfy, the room was perfect for a long weekend even with 2 big dogs (no size restriction is the best!) My husband and I are both vegan and they made sure to have multiple delicious options for us for breakfast which was greatly appreciated and greatly exceeded our expectations! They made us feel truly welcome and at home

The location is also amazing, right downtown but also so close to Mary Baldwin which made it easy to take the dogs on walks with plenty of grass We will definitely stay here again, looking forward to it! Such a charming and lovely place with outstanding hospitality

The location was great! Walking distance to the main streets in Staunton that had exceptional restaurants and shops The breakfasts were all homemade and beautiful to look at The servers were gracious and accommodating

The room was a different story The room lacked any of the charm that you’d expect in an historic bed and breakfast The only thing historic value was the sleigh bed The sofa and chair looked like it came from a college dorm room The TV was an ancient, huge like the kind we all got rid of as soon as soon as flat screen were available We were given microfiber towels that were old and looked dirty and you never got really dry I use the same kind to clean the car We had to ask for cotton and even those looked very old Because it was partially underground (we were told it would be darker), it felt damp When I got home and opened my suitcase, all of my clothes were damp and smelled like the room

Wonderful stay here Really unique experience in a really cool boutique B&B Ross was an awesome host and when he found out my wife’s eating preferences (vegan), he went out of his way to have avocado, tomato and toast and plant-based yogurt and warm nuts available

And then the cats…wow! There’s also a cat rescue that we were allowed to visit Ross and his wife Brooke are working hard to make the world a better place and you should go and see them if you’re in the Staunton area

My wife and I had such an amazing stay at Iris Inn The staff is very attentive and so welcoming The entire experience was personalized and we felt like we were at home

The cabin we stayed in was very modern, beautiful, and so comfortable Everything offered on the menu is delicious and the chef is amazing Don’t forget to book a massage while you’re staying She took away years of built up tension from both of us This was our first stay and definitely will not be our last!

My husband and I just enjoyed a two-day getaway to this inn and it was fabulous We stayed in one of the cabins Firstly, it was well cleaned and stocked with kitchen necessities for a home away from home stay

The staff and keeper were very friendly, communicated well, and extremely accommodating The views and relaxation our cabin offered were just what we needed for some R&R The cost of this stay is worth every penny We can’t wait to book another wonderful stay at The Iris Inn

Sarah Hebert

We stayed at the Iris Inn for our wedding weekend in April 2022 We were in the Hawks Nest Cottage and it was beautiful The space was clean, and comfortable

We used the cottage for the bride and her attendants to get ready, and the photos are wonderful with the view of Waynesboro below We didn’t mention that we were getting married when booking but the inn keeper saw the bride leaving and we were gifted a cook book and bottle of wine as a wedding gift Staff was very accommodating and the location is perfect! We loved the amenities

LOVE staying here! It’s beautiful and the Staff are friendly If you stop by the Office, they will happily give you trail recommendations or any info you need OR if you want to be alone, each cabin feels private

It’s rural and rustic but had everything we needed for a romantic getaway We’ve come 2 years in a row, and we will come back next year

We had a really lovely time staying at Montfair Farms It’s a rustic, peaceful getaway at the near Shenandoah National Park The trails on the property are really nice along with its proximity to places like Sugar Hollow

We stayed in cabin #3 with our 1 year old and dog, Charley We’d love to return some day and will be recommending it to friends!

Catherine Weston

Loved this find! I spontaneously wanted to do something special for valentine’s day after what’s been a very stressful year; this was such an awesome DOG FRIENDLY find! We were able to bring our fuzz ball with us (who loved the property, all the animals, and the dog cover for the futon 😉) as we toured the local wineries, explored Charlottesville and did what we love most — stayed in a rustic cabin The staff was super friendly and the cabin was the perfect unplugged getaway The only thing I wished for was at least a broom to help tidy up from the insane amount of mud — we would have loved to help!

Beautiful hotel! Hotel lobby attendant David checked my husband and I in David was very professional, friendly and informative We stayed one night in the old wing of the hotel

Room was cozy Just perfect for the two of us Both the room and bathroom were clean, and the bed mattress and bed linens were very comfortable Thick bath towels were great too We will definitely be returning for another stay at Hotel 24 South!

Perfect location, clean, well-appointed room, friendly/helpful staff, comfortable king sized bed, convenient parking in garage under the hotel We stayed for 3 nights and explored the Staunton & the Shenandoah Valley region Was a great home base for our visit

Don’t expect to dine at the hotel as the restaurant isn’t open, but they have basic breakfast items available each morning (coffee, yogurt, fruit, etc) and there are plenty of nice lunch & dinner options in the downtown area, right around the corner from the hotel, just steps away Then hotel even has laundry facilities for guests, if needed, which was convenient for us since we were on a long road trip through the south We will return for sure!

Janet Fiorentino

We were able to secure a review at the last minute when our original reservation at another destination was cancelled The hotel was dog friendly and located in the historical area of Staunton Lots of restaurants, shops, bars, etc

within walking distance It’s an older hotel but updated, yet still keeps it charm You park at a nearby garage for a nominal fee a day I found the hotel staff very friendly You can get breakfast in the morning for a fee and the hotel has a bar on Friday and Saturday nights There is also an onsite gym Room comfortable–there were a few stains on the rug, but it was a pet friendly room My only complaint was minor–when getting into bed, we noticed the sheet (under the comforter) was wet We guessed perhaps the housekeeper did not change sheets after the last persons checked out and just straightened the comforter on top I called the front desk and they handled the situation quite professionally They brought us fresh sheets and had brand new sheets put on the bed the next morning I know many places are having to cut down on housekeeping staff, so I don’t fault them for the mistake–I appreciate how they handled it
