Should be titled the Jewel of Pennsylvania I cant believe we stumbled onto this amazing place to stay Amazing communication leading up to our stay

Welcoming from the hosts and great accommodations We stayed in the zebra room which was so spacious and the bathroom was well stocked complete with separate shower and claw tub bath The whole home is amazing with 15(?) Foot ceilings! Original woodwork every where from the 19th century And so restful and quiet But my goodness, the breakfast by Mrs Jyoti was fit for royalty We had multiple courses with table side service by the most gracious host I have ever had in a Bed and Breakfast stay!!! If you plan to visit anywhere in Pennsylvania this is the place to stay

We stumbled upon this jewel in the beautiful historic town of Holidaysburg Our room was clean, gorgeous, and spacious Breakfast was served in the great room decorated with antiques and restored musical instruments

Our breakfast was wonderful: fresh fruit, cheese, meat to start followed by the best oatmeal I have ever had and then eggs, toast, and bacon The robust coffee made in the fancy French press completed the meal And our host was so friendly and helpful So happy we found this

We spent 3 nights here in mid-August and have only superlatives to describe the delights of the Allegheny Street B & B The old house, with its high ceilings, lovely decoration, and interesting details, is quiet and peaceful It is scrupulously clean

Our room was comfortable, and the many thoughtful touches pleased us very much (fresh flowers in the room!) We slept very well in the comfortable bed with luxurious sheets Our hosts spoiled us with enormous, delicious, multi-course breakfasts In short, we look forward to coming back!

This place was awesome when I stayed two years ago, however, I can’t say the same today 2 years ago, in the midst of the holiday season, I booked a room through the hotels website and had no issues The room was large and clean, and despite there being no breakfast or gym/pool due to Covid, it was a great deal for the price

Now let’s fast forward to this evening I booked a non-refundable reservation through a travel site to save 10% (my first mistake apparently) I get to the hotel to check in and the lady behind the desk asks if I’m from Altoona I tell her yes and she says she can’t give me a room Apparently there’s a policy in place that they don’t rent to people within a 50 mile radius Why, you may ask? I know as well as you do She told me the policy has been in place since at least she started working there 23 years ago, nevermind the fact that I was able to get a room less than 2 years ago with no issues, hassles, or questions asked Okay, now I’d understand if it was a major holiday and they were on the verge of being booked solid, but no, it’s just a regular Friday night, no Curve game in town, no special events in town

I’ve stayed here a number of times over the past two years and almost all have been pleasant experiences Clean comfy beads are always a highlight for meThe bathrooms are a little worn but very clean, and the water pressure and temperature are always great

The free muffins and yogurts at breakfast is portable enough for me to take with me on the next legs of my tripOn one occasion my male companion stayed outside to have a cigarette while I checked in and headed up to our room When he tried to come in and go past, the older woman at the front desk stopped him and then proceeded to call me in the room to make sure I really was expecting someone As a woman who normally travels alone, I really appreciated this gesture and her effort to keep me safe from potential harmMy first visit was during the height of Covid, and I didn’t love that the young woman at the front desk didn’t seem bothered to pull her mask up over her nose But I suppose it was still better than the several men who were hanging around in the lobby maskless and taking turns going out to smoke directly in front of the doors so that the smoke wafted in Luckily I had a room on the second floor that time to the smoke didn’t bother me much after I walked away

GOOD and BADLongtome Marriott Gold and Vistana member here Nice hotel and staff at front desk excellent

But dated rooms Furniture doors not closing, toilet flushing issues in room (and toilet in room next door cycling every 15 seconds, requiring a maintenance check In addition, big rip in desk chair seatingMost disconcerting, only TWO baggage carts for entire hotel located at front entrance Had to sit and wait 15 minutes in lobby for one to become available This is unacceptable for a hotel with five floors, over 100 rooms, 4+ different entrances due to parking surrounding hotel, and attached to county convention centerI highly recommend to less than SIX luggage be made available at any given time, spread out among all the entrances Sometimes people are jerks and simply leave them on the hotel floors and do not return them TWO simply is not enough and I betcha many prior customers, besides me, have had an issue with thisStaff excellent But spend some $s from you capital/supplies budget and buy numerous more luggage carts! Especially to help larger families

Pleasantly surprised by our stay at the Comfort Suites in Altoona We have a large family and we were quite comfortable in their suite Two queen beds and a pull out

We wrote in the special requests asking for two cribs for our twins and they had them ready upon our arrival Hotel was clean, well maintained and the free breakfast was constantly being replenished and tended to Staff all had smiles and were attentive and kind We’ve stayed in far more expensive hotels with a much lower level of service You’re doing a great job

This is a sick hotel It smells of mold and mildew, and attempts by staff to spray “freshener” are overwhelming It instantly triggered my allergies and gave me a headache

I stayed here a couple years ago without any problems Management has failed to properly maintain this property, and it has ruined the appeal Stay elsewhereUpdate: The manager took note of my feedback, reached out to us directly, and refunded our points We made other plans for the weekend It appears to me that the pool area had a ventilation problem and it has impacted the entire facility Professional mitigation and restoration services are in order for this hotel Allergy sufferers beware

Bella Benedum

Asked for towels last night and they only had one bath towel and no more We had to use the pool towels The next morning I came down for breakfast at 7:17 and there was nothing

There was no one at the front desk, another hotel guest had to yell “hello is anyone here?” And after a couple minutes a girl walked out who had looked like she had just woken up She was asked where the breakfast was which she barely gave any response at all She didn’t care Another hotel guest finally suggested she should at least bring out bagels or something which she did The front desk lady kept running to the back hiding I guess so she didn’t have to deal with guests complaining, leaving the desk unattended once more Finally at 7:43 someone showed up and brought out stuff for waffles You can’t advertise hot breakfast and not have anything The way the girl handled the situation was very poor Not one apology from anyone, nothing

What’s not to love about a place that practically reeks (in a good way!) with the aroma of railroading from every historic inch? Unpretentious but clean and comfortable rooms, a killer porch to watch the parade of massive trains go by, tons of railroad memorabilia, books and pictures to pour over during the slow moments, and tasty communal breakfasts to boot! New owner Alex, taking over from founder and longtime owner Tom Davis (RIP) is keeping the original spirit alive and making subtle-but-substantial improvements to the property, which is sure to enhance the experience further Not to be missed if you’re a train lover!

Kenneth Bell

I stayed at the Station Inn recently just after the new owners took over the establishment My stay was excellent and I highly recommend this placeFirst and foremost, this is a place for rail fans young and old

Trains are rumbling by just yards from the front porch and inn 24/7, which I was expecting and was not disappointed You can spend the whole day doing this but there are also plenty of other rail related activities in the surrounding area which makes this place a prime home base for your rail activitiesAll of these activities are easily found on line or the friendly inn keepers and staff can direct you in the right direction The world famous horseshoe curve is the most well know attraction which is close by to the innThe breakfasts were hearty, plentiful and delicious Plan on good conversations w the other guestsSome rooms face the tracks so it’s trains 24/7, again, which I went for but if you don’t want that ask for a room not trackside, it’s probably quieter I however enjoyed the late and early trains, watching bedside w one eye open and then falling back asleepThere are some great restaurants close walking distance from the inn Definitely recommend this place for kids and I would expect to have kids as guests during weekends and over school holidaysIf you enjoy train watching in a friendly, comfortable environment w a front row seat then this can’t be beat!

Sarah Beckham Hooff

Absolutely amazing hospitality — our interactions with both owners and guests were warm, inviting, and full of train-nerd delights! (But also fyi, not inaccessible to those who just like trains casually and/or have had to read too much Thomas to their kids along the way)Too many times these days, one settles on the cheapest option, staying in sterile, cookie cutter hospitality establishments The Station Inn was an *experience* that left a huge impression on me and my family and turned a dreary day of travel (including a flat tire) into the best day of our trip! Rooms are affordable, amenable, clean, and full of “granny house” character

Sir Topham Hat would approve, and so do we!

My entire family and I, really enjoyed our stay at the Fairfield Inn, at this location The room was clean and inviting The service was excellent, everyone involved in our stay went above and beyond

The kids really enjoyed the pool and my wife and I took advantage of the night time outdoor atmosphere, located behind the hotel My wife really like the outdoor fire pit

Alice Barnes

Very disappointing stay, we made our reservation in March for a handicap one bedroom suite, our check-in date was July 20-24 for our family reunion By the way our entire family stays here, every year, so when we arrived to check in, no problem, until we got to the room, which was a King single mini suite, it was handicap accessible, but only the shower! My husband is an amputee and the reason we booked so far in advance was to make sure we had the 2 beds that are normal height for transition, we got one king size bed that was so high, he could not access We went to the front desk and they said our suite was not available due to an extended stay client that did not check out, shouldn’t have someone told us this?! The front desk person, said well there is a sofa, too low! At this point we had no other choice, between the family reunion, a baseball tournament and a festival, all other hotels are full

Then we find out no housekeeping, the hotel is 100% capacity and no housekeeping, come on Marriott! We get into the room, no trash bags, we had to request them, unacceptable in my opinion Mold on the shower curtain, again unacceptable for a Marriott The floors were so dirty, that if you walked across with no shoes, your feet were black I could go on and on but I will send it to Marriott corporate As I said, our family stays here every year, average of 50 people on average of at 3 days, for the past 10 years! Maybe it is time to take our business somewhere else! Very disappointing for a mega chain of hotels

Upon arriving at the hotel I found it was very welcoming and clean from the outside The checkin experience was very good and went quickly When I got to my room the first thing I noticed was how good it smelled and it gave me a welcoming feeling

Everything in the room was clean for the most part, but the top bed sheet had some kind of stain on it that was slightly off-putting I also noticed that when trying to use the shades the inner darkening cover was broken and I had to get it back in the track, but even then it came down fast and hard so I don’t think they were installed properly The bathroom was very clean and had a great selection of dove soap products Lastly I also enjoyed the breakfast as they had the standard selection you always get at a Holiday Inn Express

Jennifer Whitson

Checked off every box Beds are fluffy unlike many other hotels I like the variety offered in pillow firmness

Great breakfast options for many different diets Several protein options (hard boiled eggs, omelettes, yogurt, peanut butter) in addition to carb options (to-order pancakes, cereals, cinnamon rolls, muffins, toast, bagels and cream cheese), whole fruit, oatmeal (instant so might have sugars) My only wondering is how the suites differ from standard rooms size-wise? The pull out couch is almost next to the second bed It would be quite snug for a family of 5 or 6 people for more than a night or 2

Aaron Maass

Awesome experience Great views, location, and staff Front desk was extremely accommodating and had great recommendations for things to do and where to eat

Our room was also upgraded after our initial room would not open due to a malfunction in the electronic openerHuge fan of this Holiday Inn and would definitely stay again next time I’m in Altoona
