We had a great stay, the rooms were very clean and we even had a balcony with our room! The included breakfast is adequate, but nothing to ride to ride home about The front desk lady was also so helpful & answered any questions I had Parking was also easy and we never had trouble finding a spot

I would say if you’re going to spend time in Carmel as well, this is the perfect central location to it

Erika Vanecek

We enjoyed staying here with two small kids Rooms are good sized and clean – ours had two Queens, a futon, a desk and chair and a small table with two chairs, and a balcony I loved the fact that there is a place for the kids to sit and eat their snacks or breakfast in the room

Continental breakfast was perfect for us – waffles, toast, biscuits and gravy, cereal, oatmeal, etc No air conditioning but it was the cool season; the space heater worked well to keep us warm Two minute walk to Friendly Plaza or the Library for kids to blow off steam Will be back!

Dianne Hansen

Very nice older hotel Our bathroom was extremely clean From everyone I asked, no one in Monterey has air conditioning nor did our room

It did have a hard-working heater and a lovely fireplace which they gave us a duraflame log each night which was perfect Breakfast was very basic but we appreciated having something to eat before starting our day I enjoyed the shared back deck off our room overlooking a babbling Brook It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay

Clean comfy rooms, excellent service and perfect, centralized location! Staff is very friendly and love dogs Service is excellent and helpful to answer questions about the area The outside dining for their restaurant is super nice looking with the fire

It’s a step down into a patio and privacy is additionally provided by plants and arbour Pool is clean and warmed around 81F They have a little grass section with provided doggy bags from a dispenser though you can freely walk your pet anywhere There are complimentary ice makers outside nearby rooms The area is very safe, we walked around the city at night, lots of options for eating near by! We will come again though may opt for a bigger room

Great stay Our flight had to divert here and we spent a few hours calling around to find a place to stay within our travel budget The staff was incredibly accommodating

The hotel is clean and beds are very comfortable Breakfast was great They have cereal, fruit, yogurt, muffins, eggs, sausage, and diy waffles Larry and Raul’s service at the front desk were top notch Our travel receipts have to be done a very specific way and they worked with us multiple times to make sure everything was correct for our reimbursements I highly recommend this place

After staying at the Howard Johnson’s on John Street, which is a Grand Dump and completely disgusting, a few weeks before for my stay at this Best Western, l didn’t expect to much When I walked into this Best Western l was blown away It was beautiful, fresh, and clean

It exceded my expectations of what I normally expect in a quality hotel The service was fantastic Ginger at the front desk is absolutely awesome She’s super friendly, professional, and kind It was Memorial Day holiday weekend and most of the hotels were sold out Ginger went above and beyond when she was able to help my family members that booked a room over at the Howard Johnson’s They we’re completely disgusted, upset, and refused to stay there She was able to get them a room at this Best Western They were over joyed I loved every minute of my stay The free breakfast is absolutely great I’m talking scrambled eggs, bacon, sausageso much veriety There’s a fantastic pool I really didn’t want to go home I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Salinas area

Valet Parking : $45/ DayRegular parking 1 block away : $35/ DayStaff: Super friendly ! Very welcoming 👍🏻Location: is amazing! A lot to do within walking distance Bars, restaurants, great view, the aquariumHighly recommended, the hotel over all was very clean, the room was impeccable very nicely arranged

Will definitely be coming back Came for a conference and the conference rooms are great! The food they served was also very good 👍🏻

A R (Golfpilot)

Feels like a holiday inn with a good location with the Intercontinental brand and price slapped on top Everything here has its caveats Staff is friendly, but there isn’t enough of them

Restaurant is good, if you can get a reservation There is a spa, but it’s probably not open The room is nice, but it’s dated at least 5 years and it’s wear showsUnable to get room service Here 3 nights One day they promised it between 9-11 and showed up at 3 while we were in the roomTried to make a reservation for the restaurant 2 days in advance and we were told they were booked, but we could do room service “it comes from the same kitchen”The bed mattress is worn, not a great sleep Bathroom cabinets are water damaged and calcium deposits on the shower headAll these things are fine for a low end 4 star hotel But expect more at an intercontinental

Kim Owen-Cravy

We’re been to this hotel 2 times The first time was just a night and we had to force ourselves to leave the next day to make another reservation in another town We came to Monterey early this time so we can stay 2 nights this time

The ocean view rooms with balconies are AMAZING! The rooms are gorgeous and very clean and every staff, including cleaning, are very friendly and helpfulFrom our balcony, we’ve seen lots of otters, pelicans, and other birds We’ve also seen whales and seals The sound of the waves is very relaxing… hard to get motivated, but that’s the point of this vacation! Lots of great, nearby eating places that are in walking distance

Coley Girl

Very friendly staff The location was awesome We were able to walk to the aquarium in under 15 minutes

There is a beach across the street and we were able to hear the sea lions and the waves from our room What a wonderful adventure We were hesitant at first because it was only rated 2 stars and looks older but we will definitely be back The room had lots of character and even had a small balcony to enjoy the area

Nicole Sissoyev

The location is great, walking distance to the beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, the aquarium and Cannery Row That’s where the good ends For the price I have a million complaints

The front desk is not very friendly (if they are anywhere to be found), the room had lights that did not work, holes in the walls, towel racks coming off and overgrowth on the patio making it impossible to enjoy I should have paid the extra money and stayed elsewhere

Jen Philips

Cannery Row Inn has one thing going for it at it’s price point – location It’s just a half-block up from San Carlos Beach and walkable to everywhere in Cannery Row But it is an older place showing its age for sure

The staff are ok but unfortunately not overly friendly, and there was some difficulty communicating due to language barriers Our room was updated though, with a comfortable mattress and nice sheets, pillows and comforters Overall, for the relatively low price, this is a good place to say in Monterey

This hotel is the best in Monterey I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing and enjoyable stay Our room was lovely, clean and spacious

If you are looking for a nice ocean view, don’t stay here All you hear is very loud road noise, no ocean waves even at night You have the view of a little lake/pond beyond the busy road below and a tiny bit of the ocean in the distance

For $350 per night on a Monday, it’s not worth the money The shower curtain does not fully contain the water so you will have an additional pond on the floor Oh, and don’t slide the pocket door all the way closed in the bathroom or you won’t get out It gets stuck I wanted to sit on the balcony and enjoy the “view” but it was just too noisy and I don’t mean crashing waves And the coffee in the room was stale and nastyagain at $350 per nightnoThe breakfast was good but again the coffee not representative of what one would expect for $350 per night The customer service was impeccable and the room was clean and comfortable but I can get that at a Hampton for way less money I’m thankful for the excellent customer service which is non-existent these days as the front desk rep took us to see the potential upgrade before upgrading It was a downgrade for me unless I had a few more people with me and needed two bedrooms The view was non-existent

Visiting the aquarium and expected to pay up for weekend rates because of the area Experienced pros and cons hereBooked two separate 2 double beds with pullout sofa for party of 10

All double beds were terrible and sunk in like a deep valley in the middle One suite didn’t have the security latch to stop door from opening in, while the other did Pullout sofa is fine for kids, not adults Weak water pressure for showers but the water was hot Loved the extra air purifiers in rooms inlight of the pandemic but don’t know how well maintained they were as far as changing out filters Ac worked wellFree parking and breakfast buffet as expected from Embassy Suites Big, open parking lot is a plus Staff bussing tables and dishes were awesome and quick at cleaning tables and clearing dishes They deserve a raise Plenty of food at buffet consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, apple, and orange Coffee drinkers in my group all said the Starbucks branded coffee was weak and watery Love the Minute Maid juice machine, especially the passion fruit juice Breakfast buffet seating is limited with our group size and avoid 8-9 am if you want a seat even if you have a smaller party Made to order omelettes, eggs and pancakes was a long wait with 12 people in front of me Both cooks were great and got all of the orders correct Management needs to provide more help with the rush It wasn’t worth the wait as my party had to wait for me to finish eatingOn side note, Hotel staff should either tell guests or have signs that show buffet setup has 2 serving lines Everybody was lining up on inside line with the bread facing the seating area but there was another serving line with the dry cereal and hot oatmeal that was completely empty I happened upon it while wandering around after my party had already got food and sat down to eat

Update: I’ve been here for over two weeks I haven’t seen the homeless issue again since the manager dealt with it That’s good enough for me

Really enjoyed my stay We were here for our work and anniversary Happy memories made Adding a star for management dealing with the homeless issue************Original ReviewPros: I’m currently staying here Mostly, it is great The customer service at the front desk is top of the line Excellent buffet breakfast also with omelets and avocado toast (certain days), and fresh pancakes made to order The chef, Jose, goes the extra mile to get the omelet perfect for me The rooms are nice They have chromecast so we can watch our channels and recordings from home From some rooms one can enjoy the ocean viewCons: Last night, a homeless person parked their basket between the two sets of glass doors and he was sitting in the main area and employees were permitting it We walked in and I started gagging and gagging from the stench I have a very sensitive stomach to bad smells He’s the same guy who looks into our vehicles in the parking lot There are a few other homeless who hang around the front entrance and parking lot, too Very unsafe for women or children to be alone I am very disappointed this is permitted I want to feel safe here and not gag when I walk in the front door

This is a lovely hotel! The rooms are clean, spacious and well appointed with everything you need The staff is great and informative The hotel is well-maintained and the views are great

I write this as I sit on the balcony of my room looking at the harbor, listening to the seals and watching dogs play on the beach I’ve just enjoyed a lovely complementary continental breakfast that was brought to our door complete with coffee danish and fruit Five stars stay I would not hesitate to book again!

Sharon Sprouse

This place is high class There is a wonderful bathroom with 2 sinks, a bath mat in front of each sink Also there is a separate commode room with a door with frosted glass so it can be used even while someone is taking a shower

The only problem was that the shower head had really wimpy water pressure And the streams are all going in different directions They need to replace or do a serious cleaning on that shower head Otherwise the room was great Quiet Nice balcony with a lovely ocean view The front office staff is great Friendly and helpful They were happy to get us into the parking lot early And they had yummy chocolate chip cookies for guests in the lobby Great place! I highly recommend it

Alan Poon

We stayed here for 3 nights with a marina view and loved it Waking up in the mornings to the sun and beach/water is magical The room is big with double vanity and separate toilet room

Having 2 on site hot tubs is great as well! The staff were fantastic and courteous, especially when offering a daily chocolate chip cookie! It is walking distance to the Wharf in one direction and the restaurants in the other Well worth checking out

Room was well appointed We were put in an accessible room, which we did not request, but did not reserve until 5 days before arrival so that may have been the only king room availableThe property is beautiful and in a great location with access to

downtown Monterey, the wharf, and many golf areasThey dohave a restaurant on site, the clam chowder was really good, but somewhat expensive for what you getStaff was friendly and efficient, from front desk to restaurant to valet I realized that I had left a couple items in the closet after we left I contacted the hotel and staff was able to locate and send the items to my home They arrived the next day! So grateful to the security team for recovering those itemsWe will likely be back to this property mainly for the great customer service, but also the location and the amenities

Alison Bartram

We had a wonderful stay at the Portola From an easy, wait free checking-in to leaving was made trouble free and quick by all staff The room was a good size with great views across to Fisherman’s Wharf and Monterey Bay

The bed was comfortable, so we enjoyed a good night’s sleep The shower gushed a refreshing forceful shower and all was cleaned daily No room service for food, however an easy ‘to go’ option for ordering and self-collection from the lobby was a speedy alternative The Portola was the only hotel which offered to cancel our stay for free when covid restrictions came into force 2 years ago barring travel from the UK We were impressed and very thankful Thank you, Portola We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Brianna Thorne

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel I don’t usually pay as much as I did for a hotel, but I absolutely got my money’s worth out of it The room was gorgeous, featuring a balcony, plenty of space to walk, sit, or lay, a pristine bathroom, and an overall classy atmosphere

One of the best parts is that the hotel is walking distance from so many amenities The pier is right across the plaza, Cannery Row is about a mile down a lovely bike/walking path with the ocean right there as you walk We even discovered a little pier between the main pier and Cannery Row that had at least a hundred seals and sea lions right there on the brake! The one and only bad thing I have to say about the hotel was the shower The water pressure was very low and the water was almost a mist It was difficult to try and wash myself under it Additionally, there’s no door on the shower, so it takes a while for the bathroom to warm up and not feel cold But that’s literally the only negative I had about this hotelI think my family and I found our vacation spot for the future!

The customer service was excellent, friendly, helpful, and politely professional No laundry but she offered to dry our swimsuits in their dryer Room was small but very clean

The bed was extra firm (hard) and the shower was the low point (Very small walk in tile shower) Breakfast was very well prepared and kept stocked (Eggs bacon tater tots oatmeal waffles fresh fruit) the hot tub was a plus

Old, but clean and very well maintained Excellent staff, very friendly and accommodating Decent hot breakfast

Heated pool Bike/walking path across street Near a nice mall Bathroom had no exhaust vent, had a small window one could open a bit for ventilation Pricey, but perhaps average for area Can see the bay from second floor No exercise room nor guest laundry room

Püppi

Room was neat and clean and check-in was quick and the receptionist very friendly We had a downstairs room and the ceiling is very thin and therefore you could hear every movement in the upstairs room Bathroom is okay, but no ventilation other than a window which isn’t ideal for a downstairs room next to another building

Wifi is appalling as it constantly drops

The beds were comfortable and luxurious The room was clean The info folder mentioned a heater control for fireplace was on the side of the fireplace, but it was on another wall near second bedroom and we didn’t find it til morning

The small portable heater worked well however The history of the Inn is interesting, old photos on hallWe enjoyed the walk down to Lover’s Point, beautiful area The surrouding neighborhood is lovelyMy husband an I were there one night, April 31, 2022, as we travelled further north The staff was friendly and helpfulParking on site was nice

Steve Denison

Location is perfect The website should be more specific about the fact there are two houses, one on the back of property Very surprised at the location of our room

In the back, it had a balcony With a tree up against it, you could see a slight ocean view off to the side We were aware the house was old but the house and room had a smell Called and was told that’s the room we picked and nothing could be done We did not specifically pick it nor would have True the parking is very tight Just investigate the location of you room

Cameron Fisher

The good: booking and check in was very easy, with door codes sent by text It was also by far the best value accommodation in town and the room was very clean which is the main thingThe okay: the parking lot is small, and the spaces are very tight

Myself, and another guest both had to park on the street despite a space being available Granted, I’m in a full size pickup but the other guest was in a normal sized car (although I reckon I could’ve got their car in the space) This wasn’t a huge issue as we were both able to park on the street directly outside on this occasionThe bad: it should be noted that this is an old property, and so the floors do creek a lot, especially when the guests above us walked around Not much that can be done about it though The windows also allowed a lot of Street noise throug although again, just a problem with the property being oldThe shower didn’t have great water pressure which was slightly frustrating And as with most propertie the area there isn’t ac Not the end of the world with their climate, but keep in mind you may need to have the windows open which will leave you subject to the street noise

Beautiful hotel! Well maintained and clean with friendly and helpful staff Our room was very comfortable and good sized Furniture was comfy including the king bed

Lovely views of the ocean from our room, and it was walking distance to shopping and several restaurants Free breakfast was quite tasty and included cold and hot items such as scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, danish rolls, etc Our stay was very enjoyable!

We are finishing up a 20 day west coast trip We stayed at Marriott’s the entire time – of varying quality and brand This SpringHill was lovely and about mid way through our trip

The staff was friendly and the rooms were big, clean and updated (hotel looks new) The hotel is a bit off the beaten path from Monterey but a good location for an overnight and nearby many box shops as well

Some confusion at check in was really upsetting especially with a cranky toddler on your hands… check in was at 3… we arrived at 4 and was told a 45 min wait… hotel front desk said our room wasn’t ready I said well I’ll take a complete refund and I’ll get outta here… 5 minutes later and what do you know our hotel was “ready??? “ seemed suspicious I’ll sitck to Monterey bay inn

I’m someone who NEVER writes reviews unless they are positive, but this one really got me Listen to all the bad ones below and save your money Yes it’s on the beach but it’s still not worth the cost

I’m someone who loves a fancy hotel and can still appreciate a motel 6, but I feel robbed and duped This place is dirty, still smells of smoke, couldn’t even be bothered to replace the shower curtains (this was obviously a different, older hotel previously) or clean the bathroom vents The beds are uncomfortable, the door had been sloppily fixed and painted so I had to literally SLAM it to close properly I called the front desk to find out where I could locate the room service menu and was told I had to come down to the bar to retrieve it So I called room service and he told me how to find it online Ordered room service but they couldn’t fill our cocktail order (“we only have very basic beverages here”, so had to go to the bar which was a pretty far jaunt) For the price I paid to stay at a “resort”, I expected a little more The food was good, nothing disappointing about it but obviously way overpriced All in all, my husband summed it up best, “a polished turd” I wish we had just stayed at The Holiday Inn (where we usually stay when we travel), but this place seemed like a nice splurge as we were passing through town (we were only here one night) IT WAS NOT So mad I wasted my money here

Reserved the premium oceanfront room at this hotel for three nights Checked in and the lobby was nice, just like the photos on their website That’s where the truth in advertising ends

There were only two elevators and only one worked No problem Get to our room that was advertised as having panoramic views and it’s completely false advertising Our room had one window If this room was premium I’d hate to see the other rooms The door latch looked like it had previously been kicked in and sloppily replaced The straw was when I pulled back the bedspread to Lysol the bed and there was a spot on the sheets that looked like blood Blood We left and checked into the Hyatt for a total of about $50 more Read the reviews carefully The location of being right next to the ocean might be nice, but not worth it

Great location, love that you can walk directly on to the beach just yards away from your room Rooms are ok, wished they had a microwave in the roomsPrices are a little on the high side and they don’t provide complimentary breakfast or coffee (they have small coffee pot in the room I wouldn’t use)

Also look for hidden fees like parking$20 Great place for walking on the beach We always find ourselves going back once a year Also is dog friendly 🐶

Stayed at The Old Monterey Inn over this last weekend with my husband for a romantic getaways from our busy day to day Arriving at the inn I felt like I was transported to another world The grounds are spectacular and the inn itself is stunning

There was ample parking and the inn is away from any main roads making it quiet and peaceful We stayed in the Dovecote room on the third floor and the room was stunning From the ivy covered window to the cozy bed the whole room felt so welcoming and peaceful The breakfast each morning was delicious and delivered right to our room The Innkeeper Wendy was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed I highly recommended staying at this beautiful inn

Greg Wheeler

Where to start? That’s easy Wendy, the manager, was stupendously gracious in making us, my wife Linda and me, welcome and getting us set up in our room The inn is old and well kept – again to Wendy

The gallery does a nice job of giving you a picture of things The gardens are great to walk around and a fantastic place to have the daily wine and cheese – thanks again Wendy Breakfast in the dining room was definitely something to write home about – one of the best we’ve had, and we have stayed at a lot of inns So what can I say? If inns are your thing (even if they are not), a stay at the Old Monterey Inn will be utterly enjoyable!

E Tadeo

A must stay if you are plan to visit the Monterey Bay area Charming with an old world style, this quaint bed and breakfast is a great place to stay after a busy day of touring the area It is centrally located to Carmel, Pacific Grove and downtown Monterey

The Inn is tucked away from the hustle and bustle There grounds are perfect to have afternoon wine and cheese, read a book, have a cup of tea or just watch the deer that visit The cozy common area is a nice place to read a book by the fire when the Monterey fog rolls in The rooms are pleasantly decorated and comfortable The breakfast was tasty and filling and just the right amount to start you off on your day of adventure Wendy, the Inn keeper is kind and friendly She is truly the hidden gem of the Inn

I’ve stayed here a couple times and love the place! It’s family owned, rooms are always perfect and the breakfast is yummy! If you’re not into Monterey prices and don’t mind a 5 minute freeway drive, then this is perfect! I’ll def be a repeat customer! 🤗💜 Also, mini fridge and microwaves!Edit! The bed is amazing and they provide pillows with different thicknesses!

Booked a recent stay at the Howard Johnson in Marina, Ca, directly with the motel as we wanted a downstairs room The motel is a couple of minutes off HWY 1, sitting behind a Valero gas station/ minimart, with fast food and restaurants just down the street Quiet location, and on the days we were there, better rates than Monterey or Santa Cruz, and definitely not the traffic of either town

Motel seemed busy, but during our stay, most of the trucks in the parking lot were guys from out of town staying to work construction jobs in the area Our double queen room was fine, with hardwood floors and throw rugs, we even had a patio with a table and chairs, but this was not the chase with most units Bed was comfortable, bathtub was small, and the shower curtain rod was hanging at an angle, so the shower curtain drooped at both ends We had a minifridge and microwave, table and chair, and the vanity was not in the bathroom, but in the room near entrance door Front desk staff was friendly, they even had maintenance replace a missing smoke alarm which we noticed the first night But the best thing about the motel may have been the sampling of treats in our grab and go breakfasts, by far the biggest number of items we have ever encountered Location, price, and breakfast are the reason we will try again

Pricey for a Comfort Inn Very nice & spacious double queen room There was a fridge and microwave which was a plus

There was also a spacious patio with 2 lounge chairs Lobby is tiny where you check in Front desk not that helpful with wifi issues Limited housing staff so couldn’t have items brought to our room Parking is pretty tight if you have a SUV Property is relaxing and clean I will definitely go back

Chaya Singh

It was a pleasure to stay here Excellent service from arrival to departureStaff is very professional, friendly and helpful

Sam the Manager made our stay very comfortable would highly recommend this locationRooms are clean with modern furniture and with all amenities you may need Free Wi-Fi works perfectly

Myra Alcoran

At check-in, there is only a desk front No lobby So if you arrive a little before 3pm and need to use a restroom

You’ll need to go across the street to the airport restaurant and bar (front desk person informed me of this)My room was very clean I had the single queen with patio 2nd floor I slept well You get 4 pillows with various firmness, so you can pick which one works best for your sleep comfort I was hugging them allComplimentary breakfast is from 7 to 10am You’ll get a paper bag of pre-packed items I got a bottled water, 1 granola bar, 1 microwaveable hot pocketOverall this place is fine If you just want a clean place in a good location, no extra frills here at all I would stay here again as it is central to a lot of places

I booked my room on Expedia and the room itself was MUCH smaller than in the photos I stayed 2 nights and it was not a great restful sleep My neighbors were loud, the desk clerk called them but still they continued

The upstairs bedrooms have a SKYLIGHT above the bed, so WAKE UP- THE SUN IS UP Ugh Also, the blinds didn’t really black out the parking lot lights and the road noise was really presentBummer If you were staying further back I’m sure it would be lovely

Tara Bell

Beautiful, spacious and updated rooms The staff were a bit hard to talk to or find at times And the room was cold with no heating, which isn’t a big deal for most of the year but we were there at the end of winter

The breakfast was terrible, just a grab bag with yogurt, granola bar and squished muffins Overall it’s a beautiful hotel and I wouldn’t mind staying again if the breakfast was improved

Teresa D

Pros:Room inside was tastefully renovated, including vinyl flooring instead of yucky carpetComplimentary fluffys were a very nice touchClose to freewayCons:Rooms do NOT get serviced during stay (still using the “for your safety” excuse)

YET not one employee wears face coverBreakfast is a joke Expext a paper bag with a granola and a juice, and maybe an apple unless they run outBed was extremely firm, could not get a good night sleep for the life of meBalcony was shared with room next door, not allowing us to keep curtains open for lack of privacy And for that reason we didn’t even get to use itI really wish their description was not so deceiving, when searching for a room I specifically searched for breakfast and free parking (pretty basic stuff) and this place popped up I would hardly call what they offer here breakfast and while they renovated recently, they clearly skipped on replacing the mattresses because the one we slept on was very uncomfortable Front desk staff was nice but I would never stay here or recommend this hotel to anyone
