We visited this location while touring collegesWe chose this location due to it’s proximity to Iowa State and the availability of a suite The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and set up well to travel with a teenager

The staff was welcoming and helpful and all of our needs were met This was the least expensive hotel we stayed at during our trip and it was well worth the price (unlike the others) Great little market next door where you could grab sandwiches or snacks Right off the highway and very convenient to Iowa State

The Positives: Great location as its’ close to the university and a great price point Very clean and well maintained building with a clean and comfortable room The daytime manager was very friendly and accommodating as we had to switch to a new room after the first night of our 4 night stay

The gym, pool and hot tub were large enough for a hotel of this sizeThe Negatives: The breakfast was terrible! Even on the weekend when their was “hot” food, they ran out of eggs before breakfast was over I informed the front desk and was told that they simple didn’t have anymore The sausages looked like they were a week old and they had no hot oatmeal, as you had to make instant oatmeal Limited variety on the yogurt and no hard boiled eggs DO NOT get a room on the gas station side of the hotel as we had a fuel truck fill the gas tanks at 5:30 am and a garbage truck pick up trash at 6:30 am, which woke us up and kept us up Hence why we asked the manager to switch our room

Stayed here on a Saturday the first week of April of 2022 and my stay was phenomenal I really appreciated the fantastic customer service from the front desk receptionist (I gave you a shout out to your manager so hopefully you got promoted brother) and from the manager the morning I checked out All the staff was accommodating and professional each time I spoke with them

I would highly recommend anyone staying in Ames for a weekend getaway, college visit, or just stopping for a sporting event to seriously consider this fabolous hotel I will be staying there each time I revisit the beautiful city of Ames, the hospitality and service is unmatched!

The room had a broken coffee pot that spilled all over the floor No one would come clean it The girl at the front desk was very rude about the possibility of us having coffee from in the lobby

It took two days to get someone to remove the dirty towels from the room and replace them so we could shower The tub drained so slowly that it became slippery an unsafe The kitchen staff for the buffet in the morning we’re lovely people Although the last day we had breakfast they didn’t tell us that the bacon was turkey bacon & turkey sausage and it was cold and tasted like cardboard

Good place to stay! I use it during business travel, but also very popular for family weekend stays especially when sports games are going on in town!Just grab a beverage at the bar and you will be fine!

The room was great for what we needed, hotel side things were great A little outdated look but still nice for an out of state visit Our issue was the restaurant

They didn’t communicate with the front desk so when we were ready to eat and head out we were told we had a 45 min to 60 minute wait We look inside and there are open tables No option for a continental breakfast, we were excited for the buffet menu had to leave hungry and frustrated Poor restaurant communication We would have reserved had we known

Nickole Lowry

The hot tub was hot and clean The rooms were comfortable A bit old, but clean

Fridge and microwave in room Plenty of space for me and my son while we were touring the college I found the breakfast expensive for a banana, English muffin and coffee Many good places to eat in Ames, a stop to Hyvee would cover breakfast easily in your room We had to call front desk to get new towels and empty trash We enjoyed our stay at the Gateway Hotel

Really nice place, modern upgrades, very clean and professional Location is in a neighborhood and it backs up to Iowa State softball field and is a few blocks from restaurants and shops It is more of a Hotel than a B and B, so it depends on what vibe your looking for

The hallways are like a hotel not a house, if that makes sense

Had some issues with our group’s reservation, but the staff was extremely helpful and got it sorted out for us I spend far too much time in hotels and in my experience customer service found at the front desk is rarely this helpful They went the extra mile and never made it feel like we were a burden

The rooms are clean and comfortable Not a much in the way of food options without driving 15 min to Ames

Audrey Jones

Very nice hotel Big rooms, quiet, wonderful hot breakfasts Conveniently located to activities in Boone, Ledges State Park and Ames

Only concern was the price per night of over $150 I would still book a stay there again over other hotels in the area because of the quality and comfort No elevator but only two floors so it wasn’t a big deal to carry up overnight bags You might want to ask for the first-floor rooms if you struggle with steps

Good Food A bit pricey but that’s their callBiggest issue: Service takes a lot of time

I mean lots of time (So there goes 2 stars) Maybe that was because it was mothers day I could see many customers visibly more upset than us Also their buffet had limited cheese! I understand, but then it shouldn’t be called a buffet (there goes another star) The guy serving Bacon, Potatoes etc was very niceThe head chef did a great job of entertaining everyone I saw that the kids were having a great time (so 1 star is given back)

Maddy Doeden

Been here twice I wanted to give the place a second chance It is just too overpriced and the food/ drinks are horrible

I had the veggie lasagna which was cold and frozen And their specialty drink tasted bad I also had their cold brew and was not a fan My friend had the blueberry tea and they did not like that either The only good thing is the atmosphere Otherwise I do not recommend To make matters worse I was supposed to be given $5 off my bill due to their special, but instead was given less then that off I will not be returning Waste of money

Clouds cafe sports an excellent aesthetic from seating to drinks, where they nail both casual and classy My friend and I relaxed upstairs, and the creative seating layout made for a very comfortable place to brunch (or study if you’re so inclined) I enjoyed a cappuccino with added dark chocolate shavings, elevating an already high quality drink, and dined on a light spinach quiche

Their menu prices are more than fair for the pleasant taste, the handmade quality, and the amazing views My friend and I were very excited to see their wine tastings events and are anticipating coming back to explore If you have the time for a sit-in cafe experience, please remember to look up on Lincoln because Clouds is truly a unique European gem in Ames that deserves to be as popular as Stomping Grounds

I gave this hotel 2 stars for the following reasons, which I broke down into Pros and ConsPros:*Very comfortable, clean beds with awesome pillows!* Hotel staff were polite and respectful!* Good-tasting, well-stocked, hot breakfast!*Overall, clean room*Not cheap yet fairly affordable compared to other hotels in the area

* Nice sized fridge and awesome microwave in the room* heating/fans workedCons:* Hottub/spa was out of service (no sign posted) yet it only had a foot or so of murky water in itit looked like it had been sitting lile that for some time (this was a disappointment to me and other guests)* Our room tv didn’t work The hotel front desk staff was kind enough to move us to a new room on another floor, yet it was still a hassle since we had already unpacked* Limited vending machine options They didn’t even have bottled water (and the drinking water in Ames is not the greatest), so had to go the gas station* No coffee cup lids available in case you want your coffee to go* Poorly lit hallways (made the hallways look creepy my kids said)* Check-in isn’t until 3 PM* There were always wet towels laying on the elevator floorexcept the final time we used the elevator!
