Vanessa Carter

We stayed at the Garden Grove in this past weekend, and it was wonderful The room was very comfortable, with a place for us both to sit that wasn’t the bed, and the bathroom had a beautiful claw foot tub Hillary was so helpful with recommendations

She gave us recs for antique shopping, meals, and the farmers market, and we loved them all She has two bikes to use (that are super cute), and we rode them to the winery that is just down the road The location was very convenient, less than a 10 min drive to everything that we wanted to do Her breakfasts were delicious, too We loved our stay and can’t wait to go back

Anna Swiontoniowski

The Woodlands Suite is absolutely stunning! Dramatic colors, soaring ceilings, a gorgeous two-sided fireplace! We’d come back just to enjoy this space again, it’s a bonus that each of our three breakfasts there were also excellent! Fresh, creative, so filling The grounds are lovely, and the host, Hillary, saw to our every need Pick her brain for local recommendations, she’s a wealth of knowledge

Highly recommend!

Susan Nerlove

My husband and I loved everything about our stay at Garden Grove Inn Hillary is a gracious hostess with meticulous attention to detail I am a coffee snob—and much appreciated the carafe of delicious brewed coffee every morning with breakfast

We liked being be able to drive a short distance to spend time at the beach, but most enjoyed the hours we spent reading and relaxing in the lush garden Highly recommend!

Casandra Red

The mood of this hotel is definitely low key and chic From the moment I walked into the lobby I felt welcomed and relaxed The hunter green paint paired with the black and white wall art instantly made me feel like there was a good time to be had

I did not want to leave the space This is the first place that I’ve stayed where the room looks better than the photos online Shout out to the interior designer The staff was very attentive and committed to us enjoying our stay Thanks to Ashley for always answering our questions and recommending cool places to experience Michigan

Andrea Meeker

Love this place! Perfect, easy getaway from Chicago for couples We have been here several times, both before and after their renovation Love the details of the new renovation, rooms are well decorated and clean

When we stay we always eat at the restaurant, the ravioli and salmon are great and the restaurant has a nice vibe My favorite thing hands down is the free breakfast basket We always have a great time here Highly recommend!

Emily Kello

Had a really good time very clean and friendly staff breakfast was okay The in room jacuzzi tubs are very nice We did enjoy the pool although it didn’t feel like it was heated very much at all and it seems like the bottom of the pool might be peeling up It’s poofy on the bottom like you’re on a trampoline

? But all in all a great visit would definitely come back again Emily

Heaven Bristow

The room was great fit a pack n play and had room to walk still the balcony door did not lock all the way only with a bar so if you had A little one they could get out The pool is really big but the bottom is soft so I did not like swimming in it felt like you was stepping in a lake No steem room or hot tub

Breakfast was not bad but the front desk person had to work both so had to wait on food Over all seem to be clean I had to wash the bathroom sink and counter off to clean baby bottle and the wash cloth was still white so made me 😊

Susie Zinn

Room was so cute and so clean Had a suite with a kitchen The appliances worked perfectly

We were part of a large group (9 rooms in all), and the super friendly manager, Pete, made his rounds a couple times each day to check on each and every one of us What a great guy!! The location of this place is absolutely the best!! It’s a short drive to so many great beaches, boat harbor, and the Dunes Highly recommend!!

Shelbi Dawkins

These rooms were adorable, clean, and very cozy Pete was amazing in getting us settled, telling us all of the great places to go to, and checking in on us There’s nothing cooler than waking up next to such a beautiful lake in the morning

If you’re sensitive to noise while you sleep prepare yourself There are trains that come through occasionally that can be a little noisy but they are quick and not too loud from inside the room

Kevin Owens

Extremely clean, modern, comfortable, cozy and secludedAmple parking and close proximity to The Bridges restaurant, one of the best restaurants in the city, it’s within walking distance from the Bridge InnIf you like trains and boats, it’s complete paradise

You are surrounded by history from the 100 year old swing away railroad bridge which crosses the ship channel so that boats and ships can pass, to the famous Blue Chip casino, and other surprises throughout the marinaSo if you’re tired of all the ritzy, commercial and boring hotels, The Bridge Inn is a delightful alternative!!

Mary Mellady

Our family really enjoyed staying at this bed and breakfast Train rooms are adorable and trains go by constantlyIt felt like you were riding on a real train when they go by

You hear them all night but they have earplugs if you need Beautiful lodge with a fireplace so lovely The people that own it are so welcoming and friendly Delicious breakfast, they had it early because we had to leave at 9 They were so accommodating We will be back!

Margaret Sen

So I’m really torn about the reviewCons: trains go through about every 20 minutes Even though there are earplugs, you will hear trains BLOW HORN throughout night

It vibrates the whole room You will not sleepPros: Unique , great for train enthusiasts, can hang out in depot, benches to watch trains, great owners, good breakfast, free parking, fire pit and grill to use, free parking when stay, nice accommodations like a regular hotel Next to a two block Main Street that has food and ice cream parlorSo go for the fun but do not expect to sleepIf you want to rent the depot I can see how that can be greatThe caboose only sleeps two The box car and the upstairs with balcony sleep 4

ArizonaRails

If you’re a railfan who loves the wide variety of trains that roll by, then this is definitely one of the best places to stay at! Located less than a block from Norfolk Southern’s Chicago Line, this is definitely the place for some of the best action that’s out there! Mr Riley is someone you’ll easily get along with, and also gets along with all railfans who gather at this truly special place right in the heart of historic downtown Chesterton I can’t wait for my next trip out there someday again real soon! 😁-AZRails

Jen Knox

I am surprised that this is rated as a 2 star hotel, I feel it should at least be a 3 or a 35 (sorry not quite 4) Jordan was great at check in, super friendly and attentive which was nice at 11 o’clock at night when I finally arrived

King room was very spacious, clean and comfortable Bathroom was clean, plenty of towels and wahoo for water pressure!! I can’t comment on the breakfast because I was gone before the 7a start time on a Sunday There is also ample room for parking which is a huge plus The only con is that it is a few miles off the I80, but don’t let that stop you it is worth the few mile drive I would stay here again in a heart beat if I am in the area

Coffee Bean

This was the only hotel I could find availability for at nearly 2 am and now I see why For 9 hours in the room it was over $300 The front desk clerk gave me no receipt or paper to sign

She told me it was non smoking and had me sign for my credit card About 15 minutes after leaving I got another $250 charge on my card! Upon calling the hotel, the front desk clerk got super snippy and told me it’s because I had a cat in the room I was never told no pets nor was I given any paper to sign saying I would be charged like every other hotel I had stopped at! All she had to say in response was “there are signs everywhere”, then why didn’t I see any? Why wasn’t it pointed out to me or brought up? The room was nice but not worth nearly 600 dollars for the short amount of time I stayed there It was a rip off and I would rather sleep in my car than stay at this hotel ever again

Jackie Brooks

The service was not great The front desk staff kicked us out of the lobby (rudely) and pool earlier than posted signs The rooms are different sizes and they put my family of 4 in one of the smallest rooms and other families of two that we were there with were in larger rooms

The king rooms do not include a pullout couch There is a lounge chair that is hard as a rock in those rooms so it wasn’t comfortable to sleep on We were actually lucky enough to get the last rollaway bed even though it barely fit in our room (We hit our leg on it trying to get out of the other bed since there was no room) They also ran out of bathroom towels I would not recommend this hotel

Decided to return for our anniversary after a couple years and still find it a very nice place to stay Staff is very accommodating and helpful Would have been 5 stars but for a plumbing issue related to renovations

the only issue we’ve ever had since staying here over the years Management addressed things to our satisfaction and we would not hesitate to return

Linda Oberg

We stayed this last Sunday and Monday night The rooms were very clean Each room has a patio or balcony facing the marina

We ate breakfast and dinner there During the week the eat in area of restaurant is closed, but you can order from the menu for pick up and eat in your room The food was very good Less than a mile walk to the beach and to restaurants I do think the rooms are a little over-priced, but you are paying for the view & location

Kristin Kerrigan

This resort salvaged a birthday trip & made it an absolutely wonderful 3 day stay! From being able to get a room day of arrival, to the beautiful marina views this resort did not disappointThe coffee shop & restaurant on the property were convenient & delicious The pool was a wonderful accommodation that we used everyday (towels provided)

This resort is about a 15 minute walk to the main strip for food, drinks & entertainment It is also a short drive from some of the main wineries/breweries in MichiganI am looking forward to coming back again soon!

We love staying in rooms with a jacuzzi tub in room Not only did Blue Heron Inn have that, but it also had so much more The view from our room was absolutely stunning! There is anything you could possibly want close

The staff were super friendly, and honestly it felt like being at home Rooms were clean and the entire place just makes you feel comfortable I would not hesitate to stay here again next time in town In fact we have already started talking about a return visit

Melissa Womack

We did our reservation online, after I got a message asking what time we would be arriving When we arrived the room was read and the staff was very friendly Over all the room was clean, cloud use a good dusting would not pass a white glove for sure but as far as bed sheets, bathroom and floors it was clean

We had a suite with a lake view The jet tub was amazing personally my favorite after a 8 hour road trip It was very relaxing and cleanThe view from the room balcony was relaxing The only down fall was there were a lot of spiders on the balcony Besides that it was nice to sit outside and relax When it comes to sleeping the bed was soft I loved it but my fiancé didn’t But he still slept good Very cute and not a lot of noise at night Breakfast was good and check is at noon We come up often to La porte and have stayed at almost all the hotels in the area and by far this is the best one We are planning to come up in Dec and already booked a room hereI will note it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like the newer hotels across the street but for us it was well worth the money

Emily Gosselin

We stayed here after visiting Indiana Dunes National Park and we are so happy we didThe Inn has an older feel to it and as others have mentioned, it could use an update in areas but overall the Blue Heron is incredibly clean and everyone on staff is so friendly that you feel like you are at home We have never stayed at a place where our dogs were so welcomed and that made a world of difference to us

Also, the big perk is that it’s right on the water and if you want to take a walk to get some fresh air, there’s a nice little park where you can sit by the water right next door and watch the sun set or you can cross the street, walk a block and take the Chessie trailThere’s a distinct unique charm to this place and my husband and I hope to visit it again soon

After an incredibly stressful day of travelling, I checked into the hotel The front desk staff, upon hearing my story, spoke to their manager and concessions were made to accommodate my needs for which I was truly grateful The room was large, bed was comfortable, space was clean

Breakfast was decent In the morning upon checking out, my car battery was dead (another hiccup in my travel saga) Staff were supportive in finding someone to boost me and lending me jumper cables Really great service

Rajesh Ojha

The Service desk was nice and accommodating We had issues in the first King room that was allocated where bathroom smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, drawer handle was broken We called front desk and they found another room quickly

Room was very spacious way larger than what we have seen The room AC was very quiet and bed was comfortable Breakfast was nice as well

Arturo Martinez

Service was good respectful But my issues was they say it’s 138 per night then you get there and they wanna charge you $50 deposit Which it was returned the next day

But then they want to charge extra $30 because I was gonna check in before 3!!!! What!! Never heard of that I needed a place to stay so I had to get it But if I had known this I would have gone somewhere else

We will stay here again! The staff were very friendly and helpful, happy to be there The rooms and the building seemed clean, however the bathrooms could have used more attention Even though Michigan City has had its problems with catalytic converters thefts, we felt safe at this location

The parking lot was well lit and laid out nicely Wide variety of breakfast items Overall we were very happy!

Ashley Jones-Stewart

MONEY HUNGRY!!!!! I stayed here before and it was lovely This time I booked around 3am and received my COIVD test back and it was positive! I called the hotel a few hours later to change my dates or reschedule they said I would still pay the price for one night! They rather me come and risk getting other guests sick than to cancel without penalty! They will never get my business again

Carrie Budzinski

It was our family’s first motel stay and it met our needs The remodel is cute and the room was spacious The smart tv was great because we could watch movies our kids liked at night

It’s a 2 minute drive to Central Beach and 5 minutes out of Michigan City’s downtown (great breweries, outlet shopping, botanical gardens and casino)There was no contact with anyone beyond text and that is fine for us More space for trash would have been helpful There were also some cracks that let ants in but nothing to diminish our stay – just mentioning for those who this would be a deal-breaker forThere’s an old playground in the back that my boys loved playing on We would stay again

Shayna Thompson

We stayed for memorial weekend and ended up being surprised by the area! Upon first driving in you wouldn’t think there’s much to do, but the dunes national park adds a lot of fun sight seeing and beach going to the agenda As far as Al & Sally’s, it’s cool that it’s one of the historic motels making a come back in the area You can definitely tell they’re renovating and bringing it back to life still, but our room met our needs (aka showering and sleeping)

My only complaint is not having some sort of housekeeping service throughout the trip When we needed more towels or amenities, we were able to text and have them brought pretty quickly, but during our 3 night stay we never had a room clean (vacuum, bed made, or trash removal) They had mentioned not doing sheet changes after one night which was understandable, but it wasn’t made clear that we couldn’t get a vacuum or trash removal after I had asked for it Overall, we had a great time, it was good for our needs, and a cute “work in progress” to bring in some tourism for the area, but for the price on a holiday weekend I would’ve appreciated some light cleaning throughout

Erin O

Post-holiday provided for a quiet visit Minimal guests Limited staff

We were in a sparse but spacious room #1 near the officeI believe we were just a little too early for check inRequesting additional items felt a bit cumbersome, like we were inconveniencing staffWe never figured out where to walk from motel to water, but there were lots of other lake access options via car We chose Washington Park/BeachThe whole vacation was an otherwise top-notch experience for me::: Recommended places nearby::::Cool Runnings Jamaican had stellar foodHokkaido Sushi, Bubbles Ice Cream: very tasty!Fluid Coffee was fab! Multi visit coffee stopThe Sugar Bowl was everything I wanted for last morning brunchWashington Park and Beach was beautiful and perfect, even with eager seagulls looking for any and all snacksI had such a lovely time! Looking forward to going back

This hotel was disgusting upon arrival The toilet seat had spots of what looked to be urine on it The shower had black hair on the floor

The comforter also had hair under the folded area up top I was instantly turned off and felt like I shouldn’t even let my 10 month old be on the floor There was rust debris on the side tables of the bed and the TV stand everything in the room was old and dated I was very dissatisfied and disappointed I was glad that we were only staying one night I would have not been able to be comfortable here any longer than that

Loni Flowers

This was a very nice place to stay Rooms where clean, smelled nice No complaints there

I loved that they had lemon water at the entrance! The continental breakfast was so good! I was pleasantly surprised! The lady that was working the breakfast was so nice and pleasant They had WAFFLES! We will be staying there again The price was a bit much, but I think it was because of an event that was going on I’m hoping it comes down A very nice place to stay! I recommend 👌

Mike Weaver

I had to stay here for a week for a class, and on the second night I backed my truck up to far and got stuck in the trench I really appreciate how above and beyond the Manger went to help me out and made sure I was able to continue my school

The rooms are fantastic The food was amazing, and all of the staff members were very hospitable and polite I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling, as I will be only using this hotel in the future

Great customer service Got a room for my kids’ birthday (10 years old) so he and his bro could swim The room was spacious, clean and smelled great

The breakfast was awesome and when a worker heard we were going to our room with it they brought a tray The elevator was a little sketchy (very squeaky and slow) and the pool is salt water- which I didn’t know- but all in all we had a great night

Our stay/room was great, breakfast was good, not a ton to choose from but definitely filled us up!However, you should choose your staff a little more wisely, the ones who don’t normally deal with people, are amazing, nice, friendly, and seem to really care The one at the front desk seemed to be the opposite, rude, had an attitude and didn’t seem to careOverall, I’d stay again but I’d hope there was someone else at the front desk! 🙂

I have stayed here a couple of times and this is the only hotel I oversleep because I’m so comfortable Bed and pillows just right, and the room is cozy and just perfect This is the only hotel I will stay for business or personal when I’m in the Michigan City, Valparaiso and Porter area and surrounding cities

Thank you for having an awesome staff!

This place is an absolute gem in Michigan City We decided to take a trip here on short notice, and were happy to see 4411 had king beds available It was in the perfect location for our vacation, and is conveniently located just off the main roads in a great part of town

Check-in was easy and our room was adorable This mid-century vibe carried throughout the property and the fire bits, baggo games, picnic tables and grill was a nice touch The property was recently renovated and clearly well-cared for We found the room to be spacious, clean and comfortable, and the view of the woods out the patio doors made this trip feel more relaxing than we expected The fridge was a great size and the microwave was perfect for us Text communication throughout our stay was so convenient and made things like getting a few extra towels and a bucket of ice a breeze I would definitely stay here again

Not your cookie-cutter hotel chain here Rustic, more of a homey feel Our room was extremely quiet – no noise from the floor above or adjoining rooms

Decent sized pool as well as a sauna Good assortment at complimentary breakfast Hotel is tucked away in a scenic, wooded residential area A lot better than being situated next to a busy interstate highway Really, good value for the money Would stay again in a heartbeat

We absolutely love everything about this place Clean, good breakfast, great view, warm heated pool and friendly staff The only thing I would change is enforcing the rules posted by the pool especially the kids out by 9 and adult time after

We tried going to the pool yesterday wasn’t even packed but the few kids were jumping screaming water all over the place Which I get I’m a mom Just be nice to actually enjoy the pool without all the extra like the signs state in the pool area but is not enforced We can’t wait for our next stay 🙂🙂 Oh the jacuzzi tub rooms amazing ❤️❤️

Honest review here! We ended up killing about 7 roaches total throughout our stay Maybe we just had a bad room One of which was IN our bed that I had been sleeping with

I don’t usually leave reviews but thought it was worth mentioning Especially since I was paranoid after that checking the bed every night (I’m pregnant so extra paranoid) We just stayed here for a week It is a really cute and quaint place But definitely room for potential No one wants to sleep with roaches in their bed 🙁 but staff was nice Definitely dated but we like that aspect about the lodges we stay at There’s a pizza place next door It’s in a wooded area so the balcony out back was beautiful…just no chairs to sit on and enjoy it which was a bummer Breakfast wasn’t anything great (sausage and pastries…one day there was eggs) and kind of got less options as the week went along but it’s complimentary so not complaining! Can’t beat the price and we got our room last minute Just won’t be coming back unfortunately
