What a delightful surprise ! The Ashby Inn is a sweet, charming gem nestled into the Virginia countryside We had booked for lunch even though the menu is limited ,and we were truly very happy with our leisurely lunchOur server greeted us , and was ready to show us our requested table on the terrace but suggested it was a bit chilly ,and offered us apleasant window table inside

What a nice touch to start our meal Good service means such a lot ,and can make all the difference Thank you so much for making us feel comfortableOur lunch ended up being 3 courses ! All absolutely delicious, and so beautifully presented As a cook I truly appreciated and noticed every detail-including all the hard work involved in each step of preparation -so hats off to Chef and his crew ! BRAVO!Our server had just the right balance of being attentive without being intrusive ,or making us feel rushed as we savored every mouthfulWe left feeling happy ! After so long with Covid restrictions it was such a treat !I have never written such an extensive review before but I felt so “at home” at The Ashby Thank you all for a most enjoyable and memorable lunch We will be back !

We stayed at The Ashby Inn last weekend to celebrate my husband’s birthday The setting is so peaceful and beautiful but it is the staff’s attention to ensure a memorable stay that makes The Ashby our favorite Inn and Restaurant My husband has special dietary restrictions, so I called Wendy ahead of time to see if they could accommodate his special needs

Chef Jonathan Martin went above and beyond to prepare a special delicious meal meeting his dietary requirements for both dinner and breakfast From the special meals, to the cozy rooms, to the peaceful setting, we left The Ashby knowing we will be back soon to enjoy their amazing hospitality!

Chris Weller

Stayed in the East Dominion room in the attic of the inn Bathroom was in a separate area which was inconvenient Had we known the bathroom wasn’t in the room, we would have chosen another

No assistance to guests having to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs If you’re going to stay, try the Old Schoolhouse building or the lower level of the inn itself for more room and easier access Breakfast was very well done, in fact it was far better than our dinner at the Ashby the night before Had issues with dinner food quality but those were taken care of appropriately by the manager Service was adequate but food preparation time from the kitchen was far too long We were seated for dinner at 7:15, ordered by 7:30, got our soup by 8:05 but didn’t get our main course until 8:50 There were 10 other diners in the dining area but I wouldn’t have expected that to be an issue to create such a waitGrounds are beautiful, staff is accommodating, buildings are clean, plenty of parking, quiet area, comfortable beds, and a nice sampling of Port wine supplied to each room was a nice touch We’ll be back but will ask to have a larger room on the lower floor and make dinner plans for elsewhere

It’s an average sort of place In general it looks like the others It’s a franchise, so not owned by Marriott, but rather by an individual who is seldom if ever seen

The long term employees there are decent All of the employees are severely underpaid All of the employees rely on some sort of special circumstance to make ends meetfood stamps, welfare, relatives with access to some sort of peculiar funding, etc It’s actually quite sad in this way Be prepared to tip generously and graciously to these employees who seldom if ever get to go anywhere and have no chance at retirement Understand that many of these people are college graduates, trade educated and many are multi-lingual They do it because they’re good at it, they work as a team and quite frankly it’s all there is for hospitality geared individuals Tips make a huge difference, so you’d better do it And do it heavily Don’t assume that desk people are paid more than housekeeping just because they look different, wear different clothes or speak differently In essence, they are all slaves If you stay there then these slaves are working for you, so be prepared to do the right thing by making their lives a little better If you can afford to stay there then you certainly have more than they It’s a shame that I even have to explain this Tip big-time Be polite Be understanding Chill out and be thankful Talk less Tip more Be low impact Tip more Tell Marriott they should be ashamed of their corporate slave scheme Tell Marriott to take direct control and responsibility of the place rather than run this slave scheme Enjoy your stay!

Overall, a nice place Clean rooms, surprisingly good breakfast Like that the sitting area in the room was separate from the bedroom, as I get up early while my wife sleeps a little later

The mattresses on the queen beds are about ready to be replaced in my opinion, but provided for a good sleep We had some people upstairs who had kids who were jumping around quite a bit, but fortunately, there antics did not last long Staff was great and provided good information on things to do in the Strasburg area The pool and exercise room were in the process of being renovated, so these were not available The restaurant next door offers a 10% discount if staying at the Fairfield Inn, so don’t forget to ask for it We loved this restaurant as well!

Jesus Herrera

Room looked dusty like it hadn’t been cleaned at all, there was still a sock behind tv from previous guests, there was a pill of some sort under fridge which definitely created a health and safety hazard for guest’s children If you stay here definitely check for these things before letting your little ones roam free in room, really unacceptable cleaning practices, yet in there website they state they take cleaning and sanitizing seriously By the looks of it , now i doubt if they even changed the sheets

Definitely unsatisfactory cleaning procedures, there should be someone on top of housekeeping, as sadly as it sounds It shouldn’t take a bad review to check areas like these, this is not a room for improvement thing, it’s someone not doing their job, period, Breakfast was good, great bacon Front desk clerk at night was helpful and courteous

This was the first overnight stop my family and I made on our very long drive to Florida We were all very tired, and needed a nice place to stay The name Wingate is perfect for this hotel, because it was definitely a win in every way

Very clean rooms and lobby, very friendly and accommodating staff The bed was the most comfortable one that I have EVER slept in If I were to say anything negative at all about the stay, it would be that the complimentary “breakfast” wasn’t actually breakfast, it was snacks and coffee However, that in no way diminished the quality of our stay If I could give this one 10 stats, I would Well done

Lori Ward

Nice hotel, great location I made reservations through snap travel When we went to check in, they couldn’t fine my reservation

Lara, the front desk employee, was absolutely wonderful, so kind and helpful She went above and beyond to help us get everything straightened out I so appreciated it after a long day of travel We have stayed here before and will stay again Lara, thank you so very much

Mark Wettstein

Room was clean, but hotel needs updating No USB plugs to charge new electronics Check in clerk had zero personality

Never looked up at us We stated we had reservation, she handed us the paper to sign and told us elevator was to the left and down the hall That was it Also There is NO breakfast buffet as advertised There are wrapped Danish and coffee The coffee cups are 5 Oz at best A buffet implies multiple selections, not a couple of vending machine snacks Who the heck drinks a 5 Oz coffee?

My husband and I wanted a quick weekend away and chose the Candlewood Suites I was a little nervous because we had never stayed here But we were pleasantly surprised

First, the staff was amazing They went above and beyond making sure our stay was perfect From the moment we checked in we felt like we were the most important people The room was great I loved the suite The kitchenette was perfect for us And the separate livingroom was comfortable and surprisingly spacious We asked for more pillows and towels and they came quickly without hesitation My sisters and I have already decided that this is where we are staying when we come out for the Apple Blossom Festival When you find a gemlike this, it’s a no brainer

Crusaders LLC

I have stayed at many extended term hotels over the years and what is particularily noteworthy about this establishment is the level of cleanliness and modernization of the whole establishment compared to others in its classThe staff was attentive and courteous, and more importantly, the other guests were well behaved too (no ghetto non-sense)Complimentary (FREE) laundry machines are a real PLUS! The internet works great! And they have a well equipped and modern weight room!Keep up the good work IHG Winchester

Jeremy Hardy

Hotel was good but I was given a hard time when I was checking in because my ID address was too close to the property They don’t allow locals to stay at their property Never mentioned it when I was booking

Was ready to go through IHG corporate and express my concerns of this property for their brand I was between selling my house and waiting for my new build to be completed Refused my business for an extended stay Was forced to find other accommodations for the rest of my time between houses

Beautiful historic hotel We spent the weekend with our 6 month old son Perfect location with many restaurants and stores within walking distance

We stayed in one of the king rooms and it was the perfect size for us and our son in his pack n play The front desk even remembered our request to have a corner room so we didn’t inconvenience other guests We did have some issues with one of the elevators being out of service, but this was quickly resolved by the staff allowing us to use the service elevator since we had our stroller Overall, excellent customer service and we highly recommend this hotel if you are in the Winchester area Look forward to coming back again soon!

This hotel is lovely! Each room has lots of space, the pool is nice and unique – my guests and my sisters kids a like loved it, my mom was able to get a last minute massage, it is walkable to a lot of lovely restaurants, and the Half Note bar in the hotel Lobby is great to hang out! Oh! and large bathrooms which is great for getting ready!I worked with Felicia to book our hotel block! She was wonderful at helping us work through problems with our guests booking This is the only reason we are giving it 4 stars The booking process was rough for our guests

Every single one of our guests, including ourselves, had issues booking with the block when they called the front desk It always worked out but it was unnecessarily difficult to get a room at times It seems like there is some sort of disconnect between the block and what the front desk is able to do Also the parking with snow was a bit tricky with uncleared spots, and then the garage parking was a bit unclear with valet parking or if we could park there because the outside lot was fullOn a positive note, I booked their largest suite and it was a amazing! I had my bridal party over the night before and the day of to get ready There was also a waterfall shower and large tub!Overall, I would say book here but make sure you have more than enough rooms on hold in your block and have them a few days before the wedding as well

D & L Brannon

For the price the hotel is not worth it The front desk staff were not helpful, friendly or curious They advertised a restaurant and that’s not really true

They do have a bar that only opens at 4pm and serves only bar food A separate breakfast restaurant only serves limited breakfastBooked the Spa located within the hotel Checking the booking two days out, the day before all confirmed the spa treatment We showed up on the day and time of the reservation and they had no record of the reservation The hot tub located in the pool area was cold For the pool there was no changing roomsThey charge for parking which is fair enough In the uncovered parking area loud groups gather well into the evening, shouting and clearly drinking Not a comfortable situationThe rooms were dated Wet marks on the roof of the room caused by leaks, rooms very smallCannot recommend

This hotel is the absolutely, hands down, the BEST HOTEL we’ve ever stayed at!! From the hospitality of the receptionists, to the cleanliness of our room, to the continental breakfast served

The beds are also extremely comfortable and the 2 room suite is spacious The TV’s were all programmed with my name and a welcome message too! This hotel goes above and beyond for its guests and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again! We purposefully stayed again last night after being here six weeks prior (on 2 separate trips), and look forward to staying there again in the future!!!!!!!!

M. Torres

This TownePlace Suites is conveniently located and easy to get to There’s plenty of parking space and it’s also near a number of restaurants (or gas stations) within the areaAs soon as we walked through the slightly unusual entrance, we checked in with ease

Entering our room, it looks like a little apartment with a small, not mini, fridge, an electric stove, and a sink There’s a decent number of cabinets and space despite the king sized bed in the main space TV might be oddly placed, but it allows to be watched from the sofaThis location has a gym, pool, and a small business center The bathroom is spacious and the shower works greatThe AC blows very cold and it’s easy to control from the wallI would definitely come back here again, and of note, this hotel is pet friendly

Robin Ness

The staff went far above any expectations The room was very clean The beds were extremely comfortable

We had a 2br suite, and loved the fact that each room had its own heat/ac controls If we were staying longer we would have utilized the well stocked kitchen, but instead we used the full size fridge to store water and left overs Breakfast was also very very tasty The staff were helpful and happy Nobody was fussing over anything at all, and they had the best of attitudes When we left there we made a decision that we would never stay anywhere else Even though it is a pet friendly hotel and we did see a good amount of doggies, you would never have known it We did not hear barking, and we never smelled dog We had some unexpected last minute situations, and stayed an extra night (thank goodness it wasn’t booked) The staff from the front desk to the housekeeping again, superb! We are truly looking forward to returning

I stayed in the Jacuzzi suite and was not impressed The Jacuzzi had kitchen sink faucets fixtures which made it take a long time to fill up the Jacuzzi Also the bar handle was in an odd position which was not helpful for safety precautions getting in/out of it

There were cobwebs and dust throughout the room There was no fitted sheet on the bed, only a tucked in top sheet The complimentary shampoo bottle looks reused/dirtyThe free breakfast was the only highlight to staying at this hotel The staff was also nice and helpful when checking in/out and at the breakfast areaI would not come back unless they update the Jacuzzi suite and start cleaning better

Shelby Shrader

The elevator smelt like weed morning, noon, and night The hallway and my room smelt horribly of cigarette smoke Meaning everything in the room (the blankets, sheets, pillows, furniture) smelt like cigarette smoke too

And that smell then made me and all of my belonging reek as well I had to throw everything, including my duffel bag, in the washing machine once I got home There was a tooth brush sitting in the shower, the carpet was stained, I found two bugs, the bathroom door looked like someone tried to break in, and the bathroom vent (that didn’t work) was dirty I considered asking for another room, but then read other reviews that shared the same disgusting smell Would not recommend

Emily Morgan

Stayed in the room with jacuzzi- I literally had to get cleaner to clean it before use

The floors are just in desperate need of either a thorough shampoo or replacement There is a lot of empty space in the room, a lot of noise in the common areas of the hotel, NO VENDING MACHINES WORK AND NO STORE WALKING DISTANCE, however they do have complimentary tea & coffee all hours & free breakfast There seems to be a lot of ppl living in the rooms and I believe the staff all lives there too Just kind of weird

Not a good place for families! Check in was great, the staff was super friendly In our room my two children and myself fell asleep Later that night, my wife who is a smoker went outside around 11pm had her cigarette and to get our tablets from the vehicle

As she walked down the hallway a man came running down the hallway at her from behind She quickly turned around right before he tried to rob her of her belongings They were alone in the hallway, she scared him off, he then apologized and ran She was so shooken up she spent the rest of the night checking the peep hole The staff said sorry they couldn’t even access the cameras she is still traumatized by it Was supposed to receive a call from management but that phone call never came After our own investigating of the hallway we came to find out strangers who were not checked into the hotel were entering/exiting the building as they pleased without a problem using the emergency stairwell To top it all off the continental breakfast that was included had nothing as staff stated they had run out of food because no had ordered any supplies

Rachel Wineman

We have stayed at this hotel so many times when visiting my grandmother and have always really enjoyed our stay It’s more expensive than surrounding hotels, but the quality of the rooms and service made it worth it But this time, there were so many things wrong with our room

The toilet bowl had black mildew under the edges like it hadn’t been scrubbed in so long The bathroom fan was broken so the room stayed very humid with 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) showering The shower rod was broken and tipped forward so the curtain bunched in the middle and water sprayed out around the sides The blankets had stains The mini fridge wouldn’t work upon arrival We discovered it had never been defrosted and had an inch of ice on the back inside panel We spent awhile with a hair dryer defrosting it Some water got on the carpet, so we mopped it up with a towel The towel came up black, as did our feet whenever walking barefoot in the room because the carpet was filthy I understand that staffing is a problem all over right now, but the quality of this hotel has fallen dramatically while the price remains high, and I doubt we will stay here again unless convinced they have improved substantially

This place was obviously a newer establishment, but man is it beautiful! Honestly, we were surprised by the quality of our room based on the price We stayed for a wedding and the service and flexibility of the staff to accommodate us was wonderful and something I’m not often used to with hotels If we find ourselves in that area again, we’ll be sure to stay again

And breakfast was wonderful!!!

Jason Bowers

Friendly staff Great breakfast with terrific hours on weekends Rooms are looking rough already for a newer hotel and could use a deep cleaning

There were oily fingerprint smears on the headboard, marker stains on the desk, dusty AC vents, etc I get hotels don’t clean everyday like they used to but this wasn’t the Marriott quality I’ve come to expect after staying over 1,420 lifetime nights

Tracy Boruff

Do not book threw Expedia They charge a “Extra Guest Fee” for children! The price your given is based on 2 adultsThe room was okay, had a glass sliding door to the bathroom which was different

There was a big stain on foot stool that looked like it could of been cleaned up and there was little black hairs on the two decorative pillows Made me wonder if they actually wash them?

I don’t know who rated this so low This is a Courtyard not the 4 seasons I am a lifetime platinum member and I’ve seen some run down ones and this is not one

The lobby is nice The design is fresh What I care about is a clean room Clean bathroom Can the room stay dark in the morning? I hate when there’s a gap in the curtains Nice big screen TV with streaming options Water pressure in the shower This Courtyard has it all I would definitely stay here again

Amarjit Kumari

This was our first points redemption stay and we were excited to use a free night for a quick getaway We checked in early afternoon and although the parking lot was empty, we were denied an upgrade Our Marriott Elite status was disregarded and we were given a room right next to the elevators

The parking lot remained empty throughout the night and early morning The room was superficially cleaned by housekeeping The phone on the nightstand was dirty and appeared to not have been wiped down, including the bed headboard and other furniture doors You could see the glare of handling from sitting on the couch There was visible dirt under the tv as well The room was definitely renovated with a modern touch; however, the bathroom was disregarded in this aspect with poor lighting Despite the room being modern, the overall layout was poorly designed For example, if you wanted to lay in the bed and watch tv, the closet came in the way The ac also appeared outdated and the vents were very dirty I also found it inappropriate for housekeeping staff to knock on our door at 9am when we had the DND sign on the door knob and check out wasn’t until 11amThe location of the hotel is definitely very convenient and right off of the highway The best part of the hotel lobby was the cozy fireplace

There are so many positive things to say from the courteous staff to the outstanding food We had our wedding here and I can’t say enough about the amazing experience Michelle, our wedding coordinator did a fabulous job and handled everything for us

She was personable, down to earth, and made us feel special I can’t say enough good things about her The place itself is very quaint and on beautiful grounds The food is incredible This place is the best kept secret – if you’re lucky enough to find it Thank you to everyone who made our day so special We will be back!

Candice Costa

Staying at the Hillbrook Inn and Spa was an absolute great experience The staff is wonderful and very helpful I stayed in the Spring Cottage, and it was gorgeous

I scheduled a massage for my mom and a facial for myself Both were so relaxing and calming! I also had reservations for dinner, and the food was impeccable! I have never had such amazing, tasty food I will absolutely be back for another weekend getaway! Thank you to all the staff and their hospitality!

Amy Warrington

I can not say enough good things about the Guest Services staff at the Hillbrook! They made us feel taken care of before we even got there, and greeted us as if they were genuinely excited at our arrival They even put out dog bowls and treats for our puppy Newton, who was traveling with my boyfriend and I And I haven’t even gotten to how amazing the room was! From the super comfortable king bed, to the fireplace with cozy armchairs, to the soaking tub, to the fluffy robes and towels—we were blown away by the entire space! Breakfast the next morning was phenomenal, but not complimentary like we thought

However, still highly recommend if you’re a breakfast person!

Had an opportunity to stay at the Hampton Inn Winchester for a weekend and have to say that I was so pleasantly surprised by the hotel It has recently been renovated so all the rooms, lobby, meeting room space was fresh and new, which I loved! The staff could not have been any nicer Customer service was excellent! Any requests made of the staff were handled immediately and with a smile!

Stayed for 2 nights Everything was great until we had breakfast in the morning and the rude disrespectful racist breakfast attendant ruined it The lazy GM was nonchalant about the situation when I complained

Horrible way to manage a property Surprisingly this isn’t the first complaint they have gotten about her and yet she’s still there If you work hard for your money I’d advise not to say there Disrespectful employees that think it’s ok to treat people any way Sad that one person ruins the entire stay Had I not encountered that, my stay would’ve have been great

Very comfortable bed and pillows Perfectly clean and excellent use of space Large, well equipped bathroom with quick hot water and nice water pressure

Horrible breakfast Do not consider it when you seek your stay Children’s sugar cereals and yogurt, white bread, white bagels, frozen omelettes, runny oatmeal, green bananas, tough, meally apples Make a decision Do a continental with fresh fruit and a Variety of carbs OR do real, hot breakfast with fresh omlettes, potatoes, meat More doesn’t mean better when you have to go elsewhere and pay for breakfast Coffee was decent

The Fairfield Inn I just checked into should not be having guests stay in Room 131 It was not finished yet they issued it to a customerThe window in the room overlooks an actual dump complete with an abandoned school bus, the closet did not have a rod to hang clothes on nor hangers, there was no lighting for the in-room desk, and the TV did not work

There is no where to hang a towel except a hook on the back of the bathroom door I like the Marriott brand a great deal At the same time I will avoid this location going forward

The folks here tried their best to provide a positive experience, but we were a little disappointed that the hotel was under major renovations and all of the amenities were closed, due to construction We did get a nice suite on the first floor and at a great price, so this sort of made up for the other issues The grab and go breakfast was a little sparse, but that was to be expected because of the construction going on

It was neither the best nor the worst accommodation on our trip Hence the rating

Made a reservation for one night based on Google reviews Room was just okay There was a strong odor (not pleasant felt like bath room smell) in the lobby near the check in

Room is bit congested and shower liner was not cleaned and stinky Carpet looked old Reservation said breakfast is complimentary We got a coupon for breakfast This is where it gets interesting Breakfast area is not buffet but need to order items from the menu We have been told that coupon covers only 1 item and you need to pay for anything other than your 1st pick including coffee/tea! Service was terribly slow and not at all worth to sit and wait We have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express hotels which serve decent breakfast Overall experience was bad We would never go back to this place

Super clean place We were a little nervous, because I think it was only 3 or 3½ stars, but it was great Staff was friendly enough, room was very clean, orderly, and bathroom was stocked with essentials

Unfortunately, we had to depart early, so I cannot comment on the breakfast that was included Definitely would stay here again if passing thru this area

Good place to stay Decent breakfast but you must pay I wish the pool and fitness center stayed open 24/7

So that’s annoying THE most annoying part is the laundry, it needs quarters, there is no machine for quarters even if you have cash (which I never do) They also won’t give you quarters (or don’t have quarters) at the front desk unless you have cash Ughhhh Crappier places have laundry for free If you can’t manage to have quarters (and can ideally charge to the room or to a card for them) make it free!!!
