We’ve stayed at this location twice in the last year and it’s been very good each time The rooms have been clean and comfortable and the staff friendlyLiterally the only issue we had was having a hard time getting bottled waters (which my spouse needed for his C-Pap)

the staffperson got a little short about that, kind of a “you’ll get it when you get it” feeling But we’ve enjoyed all the other staff we spoke with, especially the college student who works as a valet on the weekendsParking was catty-corner across the street and the price wasn’t bad for downtown in a large city It’s very difficult (and a little lucky) to get a space in front of the hotel for the few minutes you need to unload, though A lot of patrons have to double-park for that reasonThe food available on-site (a restaurant, a bar, and a snack bar) was goodI’d say a 4/5 and that’s much better than some hotel food offerings!

James Rose

As of this moment, there is a 45-50 person line waiting to be checked in I’ve never seen an amusement-park-style line in a hotel, but this was pretty close I’ll further update this when we get our room, but so far, the bar isn’t open, the line is long, and the guests are getting restless

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable Next time we come back, this hotel is definitely on my radar This would have 5 stars, except that they leave you water bottles in your room – which is nice, but they want to charge you $2 a bottle for off brand water It’s almost a slap in the face

The staff was absolutely amazing! So accomidating&helpful The hotels lobby area is beautiful And sets a high expectations for your room

Upscale feel Upon proceeding to my room, the lobby there seemed totally out of sync with downstairs It was as if I had entered a whole new hotel It needs a make-over Entering the room was more of the same Desperate need for an upgrade all around As someone who travels a LOT, It was disappointing The facet was leaking, the toilet was in need of service, and there was glass on the bathroom floor Leading back to my entry of the room My feeling was not that of a fresh, clean feel It was as if the last guest was still staying in the roomhard to describe It was just not a fresh feel to it The way a hotel room should feel I have never had to pay for parking as a guest at any hotel I think they should purchase the parking structure next door I just found this odd And I have been all over the world

I try to be fair and I don’t rate a business one star unless it’s truly deserved However I would not recommend the Element hotel DetroitLets start with the positives,1

The Monarch club is nice and has a few food choices which makes service fast2 Most of the Staff are polite3 The breakfast is okay as well, when it’s not left over eggs from the previous day The fresh muffins are goodSerious negatives1VERY UNSAFE2 I had over $1,500 in parking fees charged to my account when I did not valet park or park period with the element hotel at all during my stay3Some of the housekeeping staff are very dishonest and steal from guest rooms and are very dishonest to guest4 The hotel is very out of control at times, people are so drunk and high off drugs that they are fighting, arguing and banging on stuff in the hall ways at 2am, makes you feel very unsafe I was afraid to go out into the hallway5Rooms are literally falling apart from domestic violence and people fighting in the roomsIf I had to choose a hotel to reside at in downtown Detroit I would choose Shinola hotel for my safety and peace of mind I have stayed there and never had any problems always very pleasant

Really can’t say enough great things about this hotel! It’s well-priced, and accordingly sort of a no-frills experience, but it does all the important things right Gives you the feel of staying in a boutique hotel, without the boutique price tag It’s in a gorgeous historic building, perfectly located very central to Detroit’s entertainment district

Modern, updated rooms that feel clean and fresh, with very comfortable bedding Free wifi, free breakfast, and reasonably priced valet parking This is my go-to Detroit hotel!

Aaron

This might be the best business hotel I’ve ever stayed in! So much to highlight in a stay I thoroughly enjoyed: fabulous service from everyone; very comfortable, quiet, big, modern rooms with awesome beds and white noise machines; perfectly silent air conditioning; fantastic desks, ergo chairs(!) and WiFi for work; a full kitchen with stove and dishwasher that I could have had my meals in; decent hotel gym; access to the fantastic YMCA Detroit next door if you really want to stay fit; nice, healthy breakfasts and cooked omelettes in what is supposed to be a 3-star hotel(?); perfect location; great restaurants nearby; cool restoration of a beautiful old building Can’t wait to come back I hope all element hotels are like this

Marc Long

I have stayed in worse places, but this was the worst Marriott property I have every stayed atWe paid way to much for what we received I would not pay more than $100 a night where I paid more than twice that

I would not recommend this place to a friend The smell of weed was strong, inside the hallways and outside the buildings Neighbor had two dogs that barked The room was not clean Feet were sticking to the floor, upholstery was ripped, carpet and beds were stained The hotel is located very close to run down and abandoned buildings and a good amount of sirens which did not make us feel safe Me, wife and kids did not get much sleep that night The positives: The people we interacted with were polite and nice We checked for bugs and did not find any actively crawling around and my car was still there in the morning Marriott customer service said there was nothing they could do to help us with our situation which was disappointing

Sharise Talley

I truly enjoyed my stay inside the room but there was a Marijuana smell in the hallwayHowever, my room was clean but I did have to ask for different sheets they looked dusty not dirtyIt is a mini stove in the room so I did cook

Overall it was a 3 Location was ideal for traffic

TD B

The good: we had a 2 bdrm suite (which are rare)! Full kitchen (fridge, stove, coffee maker dishwasher and microwave) living area, separate sink area from shower and hot breakfast with variety including meat and eggs Off the highway

Room was clean, bed comfortable Great service Priced well! The bad: location is off highway but surrounding neighborhood is sketchy (not the place to go jogging) Gas stations close-by are a def no (off-brand, panhandling, etc)The ugly: Bring your own food/snacks The Walmart nearby is disgusting Pool is small and outside Its was the fourth weekend so the pool crowd was a bit rowdy and crowded Ppl smoke outside and near the pool (fyi Cannabis is legal)Overall a good stay for 2 days to visit family

I was visiting some friends who are members of the Detroit Club and they insisted on going there for dinner and drinks What a wonderful suggestion and a pleasant surprise We were a large and diverse group so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the staff went out of their way to accomodate us

The building is magnificent and the atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting After a lovely meal, we finished the evening off with cigars at the the cigar bar I highly recommend The Detroit Club to anyone passing through or living in Detroit!

Phyllis George

We LOVED staying here The gentleman at the check-in counter went above and beyond We checked in late after a concert

Local restaurants were closed He had us order from a restaurant that stayed open late, he drove to the restaurant and picked up our order and brought it back to the hotel for us (at 1 am!) Then he extended a late check-out for us The historic atmosphere was gorgeous Hope to be able to stay here again!

I booked a room here for 2 nights as a small getaway for my birthday It was so quiet and just

amazing! If you’re a mom + wife, y’all know what I mean! The hotel and room were clean, the bed and pillows were amazingly comfortable, water pressure was okay, fridge/microwave & TV all worked well (back was missing on the remote 🤷🏽‍♀️) I was impressed with the breakfast because a lot of places do not have very many non-pork options on their menu They had a fancy waffle station too! There was a variety of breakfast options to choose from and the juice options were good too; it wasn’t that weak and nasty, cheap stuff some places offer Made me wish I didn’t sleep in my first morning and got it two days in a row!Checking in and out from within the app and having a digital key are great bonuses I didn’t have too much interaction with the staff, except for when my room needed to be switched (cord for the blinds was broken in my first room, so I asked to be moved to a different room) Her vibe was so-so, nothing exceptional All in all, I would definitely stay here again and I recommend this location I hope to check out the pool and other amenities next time!

Barbara Herzog

Good location close to The Henry Ford Museum and highway Nice, clean hotel Friendly helpful staff

Good breakfast and the woman who oversaw the breakfast was very helpful, asking everyone if they were finding what they needed and always busy cleaning and stocking Room was nice except for poor lighting Light on ceiling when you first walk in didn’t work Light on desk only pointed down and low, not helpful for tasks or adding more Light to room Fridge very small and didn’t hold much or taller bottlesOverall it was a nice stay and I would recommend it

Brandi J

Bed was comfy Front desk gentleman was very funny and great to interact with upon check-in Did thank me for being a honors member and provided me with the member check in snack bag

When my digital key did not work I had the privilege of working with another women who apologized and thank me again for being a Hilton honors member and worked very quickly to resolve the issueThe room on other hand, needs a major update and repair I couldn’t find the remote and upon looking under the bed found the remote, along with a water bottle cap, price tag for new clothing, among a few other items of garbage You could tell the ceiling had been replaced from water damage The seams were splitting and you could see brown water marks on the ceiling It was a big square right above the TV (room 423) The bath tub could use a deep cleaning as it had a few black marks (maybe mold) along the seams The bed was super comfortable, the AC was great, my room faced the train and it was very sound proofed from hearing the train I never heard itA few things to improve on and this would have been a great stay

We reserved a block of rooms for my husband’s 50th birthday Janet Woods, Director of Sales, was phenomenal! She helped me ever step of the way with my planning needs She was always quick to respond, courteous, and professional

I’d definitely recommend this propertyI gave four stars instead of five due to the kids hockey tournament that stayed at the property They were loud but no reflection of how the property hosted my group

Melissa Galindo

Other than them trying to charge our training class a deposit which was already paid for by our company! But overall their rooms were extravagant and their breakfast was really goodI also enjoyed their swimming pool and laundry, weight roomsAll were great!👍Only thing is housekeeping never went to service our rooms for our 2 nights stay which I found strange

Richie M

With my career, I stay at many hotels for a month or longer As of last March, with everything going on, it became hard to expect exceptional service With my stay so far, I have been very satisfied

I did not expect to be this pleased with my stay here at the townplace suites They are doing a wonderful job with a clean hotel in these less then perfect times

From the day we arrived, the staff was excellent We were in for a funeral and were treated very well The suite was perfect for our needs and so comfortable

I went down for tea after I’d missed breakfast and the GM was so sweet! She gave me food to carry up to my son and aunt who’d slept in I also made a friend who liked glasses like I did All in all I’d say everyone was top notch! I’d stay here again anytime! Thanks again to all the staff who were so good to us!

Shannon Fischer

The hotel is pretty modern and very clean! Our suite was fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful in giving us information and suggestions for dinner The website stated that both the pool and spa were out of commission, but both were in working order and clean

We didn’t use the laundry room, however, it was also clean and had newer machines The outdoor patio was very pleasant to sit and enjoy the evening There are grills on the patio for guests to use to prepare dinner We were on a short one night stay, so we went out, but would definitely take advantage of the many amenities if we were staying longer

His Gaze, Inc.

Service was amazing Rooms can and should be cleaner Beds were quite comfortable

Location would be perfect, except for the fact that it is right next door to the Holiday Inn It is so close to the other hotel that tge two hotels look connected, but they are not at all connected Extremely weird Both hotels share the same parking lot

The Detroit Foundation Hotel is an absolute great stay The rooms are new and really beautiful The aesthetics throughout the whole hotel are very chic and relaxing

Our time was quiet and comfortable despite being a holiday weekend The staff were extremely kind and accommodating, even allowing us a very late checkout so we could kill some time before our flight The room service and bar downstairs were equally high quality Even the hotel gym was exceptional, especially compared to others I have found myself in The location is perfect and anything in downtown Detroit is walkable Overall, I would highly recommend a stay at the Detroit Foundation Hotel for any trip to the city You might pay a little more than a generic chain hotel, but it’s well worth it for the comfort and style

Helene Gidley

Lovely hotel in the heart of downtown Detroit Great history at the old Fort Pontchartrain siteNicely appointed- urban cellars breakfast buffet a good deal at $14 /person

Clean, quiet, with friendly and attentive staffOnly thing missing was decaf coffee In the US I have not been at a hotel that did not carry decaf in the breakfast area Beyond that small imperfection the hotel is wonderful

Lindsay Butterfield

We used The Detroit Foundation for our wedding block for guests to book for our March wedding All of our guests were extremely impressed with the hotel (from the decor, The Apparatus Room, hospitality of all hotel staff) We also stayed in The Commissioner Suite (absolutely gorgeous) the weekend of our wedding and it was amazing

The staff is beyond accommodating and always happy to help I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to just stay downtown (great location) or hosting your wedding guests Loved it so much!!

My wife and I Stayed here for a wedding recently Even though there was a convention that brought thousands of people to downtown Detroit that weekend, the staff was calm, cool, and collected From the concierge to the cleaning staff, everyone who worked here was more than helpful (and polite)

Since the pandemic, I’ve come to expect the hotel industry to have a lesser level of service because of staffing shortages But I was pleasantly surprised of a high class, mid-century level of hospitality we experienced at the Westin Cadillac Great times at the lobby bar each night!

Erika

Decided to stay here for our girls weekend Front desk girl upon check in was nice/hospitable Arriving to our rooms, looked nice as well

So far starting out goodor so we thought Our AC didn’t work well in the room, the bed was terrible along with the flat pillows Trying to call the front desk late night for additional items for our bed- we were told we could come get it but no one was able to bring it to our room We walked down to get a pizza we ordered then see 4 employees just standing around at the front desk The man who was working the desk in the evening was so rude, rolling his eyes like we were an issue after asking for suggestions to where we could get food then the whole you can walk down to get your own requests What is the point of paying for a $400 room?? Not hospitable AT ALL! Called to ask for a manger this morning and still haven’t received a call from them How do you run a Westin this terribly? I’ve never had this type of experience at any other location Would spend my money elsewhere if you want to be treated like a guest!

Short version: unique stay, romantic atmosphere, big city feel – stay here, you won’t regret it!Long version: I had seen this hotel a few times when booking Detroit stays but the price was always a bit high My boyfriend and I were in town to celebrate Valentine’s Day and we noticed the price was great so we booked it We parked in the Z garage which was only a block away, the attendant ending up giving us completely free parking which was awesome! Check-in was great, staff was friendly, room was very clean

We booked the Parlor room (king bed) and it was cozy but loved the feel to it No fridge or coffee station in the room but there is a cafe in the lobby For any girls out there, the shower shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were surprisingly good I typically have to pack my own conditioner to handle my long curly hair but the hotel provided huge bottles in the shower that worked great! Bed was comfy, sheets felt clean, never heard any other guests which shocked me due to the older building Upon checkout, the receptionist was very kind and asked how we liked our stayOverall, I definitely recommend a stay here! I typically tend to stay at chain hotels, but I am so glad I strayed from that habit and booked at the Siren The whole building had such a refreshing, romantic atmosphere that was perfect for a Valentine’s Day retreat

Jason

The entire staff here was superb Probably one of my best experiences at a hotel From the housekeeping staff to the front desk, everyone was super nice

Extra kudos to Ivory! We enjoyed ourselves so much we ended up staying an extra night which they seamlessly made happen If we ever have occasion to come back, we will definitely make this our first choice for our stay

Jennifer P

I loved our stay here All of the staff was friendly It had a nice vibe

Everything was exceptionally clean (staff was constantly cleaning common areas) The decor is charming and fun The bed was comfortable and our stay was quiet We stayed in a Superior chamber room There wasn’t a lot of room, but the large windows and tall ceiling give it a feel like it is roomier than it really is The hotels location was great We walked to dinner and to a show at the Filmore The only thing to watch for is no mini fridge (and if you want ice it is a hike down to the basement to get some) Also, no coffee in your room (but there is a coffee station in the lobby where you can buy yourself a cup)

I had family staying there in bridal suite for 3-4 days for her wedding Housekeeping was awful at cleaning it Had to call 3x in one day to have them come clean the room!! Than on the day of the wedding we called front desk to see if they could spread some rose petals on the bed while they were gone

We were told no, not enough time in advanceReally?? It’s the bridal suite!! Shouldn’t this be something you should be doing ANYWAY?!?So we came in later to do it ourselves and Housekeeping was finally in there to clean and we asked if they could just do it when they were done, so we didn’t get in their way We were told no again, not my job The front desk staff wasn’t nice either For the amount of money paid for that room you should have staff that is willing to make their stay memorable in a positive way!!FYI we did the rose petals ourselves, had to leave the reception to do it but it was done and done right

Excellent stay, could not recommend it more Beautiful design – modern interpretation on Detroit’s bygone Art Deco era – and tastefully appointed rooms Enjoyed the stay tremendously and would stay here again if in Detroit

Had no problem with the valet like in some other reviews, valet was courteous, fast and efficient no issues in my experience of it

One of the best stays of my life in the downtown Detroit area Once staying here I was staying in a “Cass or Cass King” it had a awesome terrace you could lounge on During this time of year(winter) it was a bit cold

The room it’s self was incredible! Room service was great, cocktail lounge was great, awesome drinks They saved me in a pinch too I had forgot to pack my belt We were going to a redwings game that evening I had to run down to the store to purchase a belt Life saver! Otherwise my pants would have been falling off of me all night Always a great stay at the Shinola I will revisit soon!

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Walked in and got blown away Was shocked to find pictures online axtually match the hotel and it wasn’t all staged We met the GM and was greater by amazing hospitality

The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable especially if you enjoy extra firm mattresses The pool and sauna was amazing too! Pool was at a constant warm temperature too We had no issues, no noise complaints, no issues at all Everything was really nice and definitely will be back!

This is a very nice and clean hotel We enjoyed using the pool except when 3 kids were left alone in the pool and the mother was laying in the sauna until I said something to her Other than that we had a pleasant stay

The rooms were nice and clean We loved the jacuzzi tubs The lady at the front was nice and helpful The breakfast was a little bit of a let down though, not too much to choose from

We were looking for the perfect hotel to celebrate after our wedding, and after looking at 4 star hotels in the area we were discouraged Then we happened to find the Leo Collection and immediately knew this was the one we wantedThe outside, lobby, and room were all clean and beautiful

You could tell it was recently constructed, though, because of some stickers on the shelving hardware We weren’t a fan of the rainfall shower, partly because of the style but also because it somehow leaked all over the bathroom floorThe in-room jacuzzi definitely made up for it; it was definitely the highlight of the room The TV swiveled out so we could watch from the living room space or the bed The little zen garden was a nice touch tooThe nightstand drawer started to fall apart when we opened it, but we didn’t use it anyway So there were a few small kinks they still need to smooth out, but overall we were extremely satisfied and would love to come again some day

This hotel is located in a great area next to a lot of amenities If you love swimming, I’m sorry there is no pool They do have rooms with jetted tubs

We had to switch our room because it had a strong musty onion scent We were checking in on my way to my birthday dinner, and our next room appeared to be clean but the next morning we realized the shower was not clean The living room area is nice, the furniture is a little dated, and the baseboards were coming up Other than that the room was nice I like the vanity, that leads down three steps to your bedroom The rooms have a nice view, but some of the front desk reps are unfriendly My valet parking was paid for, and I was still charged To receive a reversal you must speak with a mgr, and I wasn’t called back for 2 days The bedroom and King size bed are very nice it would be perfect if the room was fully cleaned and they updated the furniture

I will never be able to say enough good things about this place First, the service was amazing Everyone we interacted with was a prime example of how service should be

It made every experience here so worth it! Probably the nicest people I have ever met in a hotelInside the hotel was gorgeous Every where you look it was pleasing to the eye Now, every other hotel experience we have will have to live up to this oneIt was only a 15 minute walk to the Fox theatre and that made it even better Very pleased

Prudence

Location was great, valet service was great The room was a deluxe suite, very nice and spacious with 2 doubles in it and a separate sitting room The bath was so big our toddlers were too afraid to get in it

We were even offered a shuttle to and from the passport agency which took away our stress completely Big big thank you to Andre who went above and beyond for our familyWe booked through a 3rd party that advertised free breakfast for 2 adults with the room However once there it was not free and management would not honour it even after showing proof it was part of our booking A consolation was $25 off our order So beware of offered perks through 3rd party websites Other than that a great stay at The Atheneum and would recommend

Everyone at this hotel was wonderful – the housekeeping manager – Anita, the front desk attendant, and the young man at the breakfast bar Anita told us that the staff was like a family, many working there 25+ years, and we could tell how much they enjoyed their jobs The hotel was very clean, the pool was fun for the kids, and the breakfast (not free) was amazing

I’d pay for good food over a continental breakfast Easy drive to the Ford museums Thanks to this team!

My family and I planned on staying in the area for two nights We booked the rooms with another hotel, however, based on our first nights experience, we got out of that place as quickly as we couldNeeding a place for our second night, we found availability at the Courtyard

I was immediately impressed with the staff, the service, and the attentiveness that we received The room was clean, in order, and everything functioned as it should (all of which was severely lacking in our hotel the previous night) I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable place to rest Will definitely come back the next time we are in the area

Elizabeth Pier

The staff at this hotel are nothing short of amazing So incredibly helpful, friendly, and kind We had to book a room last minute due to disrupted travel at DTW and they were beyond accommodating and understanding, as we switched back and forth many times between needing a second night and not needing a second night as our updated travel plans constantly evolved

They turned a stressful event into a comforting and relaxing experience We also had really delicious breakfast sandwiches there!

Really nice place to stay The only issue I have is if you do an extended stay of multiple days, you have to request room cleaning, linens, towels and such However, the rooms are very nice and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful and lots of nice shops to visit

The view outside from the rooms is a great view of Canada and the city of Detroit itself which is really brilliant in the night 🌃 scapes Thoroughly enjoyed my stay

Awesome place to stay Staff is so friendly and helpful Clean rooms, lobby, gym area, breakfast area

Loved the kitchen with a full size refrigerator and everything you need I brought a electric fry pan and we had all of our meals in the room Saved us a lot on eating out Was worth every penny Will seek out Home2 locations for further stays

Jewel Beji

I really enjoyed the front desk staff, breakfast, my room and the amenities! However, being on night shift, my colleagues and I had a big issue with housekeeping banging the doors in the mornings when they’re cleaning and going in and out of the rooms using a door stopper (not all of them do that though) And on my day off, I was waiting for housekeeping to do my room and one of them reported that I refused cleaning when I didn’t even have a DND sign on my door or anything The rest of features of the hotel really saved my rating and outlook

Overall, thank you all for being so welcoming to our team and going above and beyond for us!
