I was pleasantly surprised, nice enough room We stayed in the Sailfish Building in an oceanfront suite It was smaller than I expected but after reading some reviews I was concerned

I was pleased with the room It seemed to have been updated No stains New bathroom, very clean Balcony was small, but big enough fir 3 of us The beds were comfortable The bldg had one elevator but no issues waiting The parking g was a little tight in the garage, but I mostly parked in another area Breakfast was buffet and great I would come back

Stayed the first week of August Originally I had no idea that my group was staying at the Dunes, which if I would’ve known we wouldn’t of paid so much to stay there I figured we were staying in a hotel, not motel feeling

It was too late to cancel when I realized, so we bit the bullet and kept the reservationUpon arriving, guest service was great! We got our room quickly and had our keys attached as a bracelet! Which, was awesome!! The pool for the Dunes is small, but not as crowded as the other pools The other pools at the resort, we’re super small and crowded Which, expected but being such a small area figured the pool would be a bit biggerNo free breakfast, which I would’ve loved Considering the price of the room Housekeeping was great, they would knock every morning and they were very prompt with delivering towelsThe room itself was okay The lighting was bad, the bathroom had no vents, and the bed itself was a bit uncomfortable Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again for the price but it was tolerable

Katie Vanderhoek

I’m giving this an okay stay … with the price of the room we were expecting a nicer looking room For our 5 night stay we did not get any service except for one day which they only gave us towels and took out the trash With two kids eating in the room it got very dirty

The carpet was super old and wrinkly Then the couches and chairs were very old and dirty The sheets were clean, so that was the good part Not to mention if you are cooking the smoke alarm will go off The good parts were the pools but got very dirty at the end of day They did clean the pools every morning And The staff was friendly We just wanted cleaner updated room with the price we were paying Recommend looking someplace else that cares more about their property

Couldn’t recommend this place enough! Sheila went above and beyond to accommodate my travel plans My flight arrived after the posted front desk hours, but she stayed late in order to check me in When I checked out, she also offered to hold my luggage in the lobby so I could enjoy my last day unencumbered by my luggage since my flight didn’t depart until much later in the evening

Sheila also lent me a beach umbrella and a cooler during my stay, which was a huge help as I traveled very light Another employee, Trish, even lent me a book to read on the beach after I finished mine on the first day These little touches made a huge difference in making my last minute vacation comfortable and enjoyable The customer service I received here was unmatched! Totally recommend supporting this small business— they really treat you like familyBeach access is only a couple hundred feet across the street which is super convenient, and the kitchenette in the rooms is a huge money saver if you choose to make breakfasts and lunches in your roomPro tip: the fourth floor rooms have a beautiful view of the ocean!

Stayed for a week at an efficiency room and loved it Room was a little outdated but very clean and beds were comfortable I also saw the pool get cleaned every morning before it opened which was wonderful

Only minor issue was that they did not have a washer and dryer available to use but other than that, my family and I enjoyed our stay I definitely recommend the Darlington Inn!

Mimi Smiley

I stayed the entire month of February at The Darlington Hotel and wish I could leave 10 stars Sheila, Jeff and Tricia treated me like family The hotel itself was very clean and safe

I had an efficiency with stove and full size refrigerator and all the items I would need to make a meal My ocean view was beautiful and I was able to bring my best friend Tilly my 4 lb poodleGreat place and I highly recommend!!

I read all the reviews right before my stay and got a little nervous BUT I had absolutely no issues at this hotel It was perfect for our stay for a teaching conference

Our room was spacious and we had everything we needed I slept SO well I was able to make my room super cold the way I like it for sleeping They had less hot breakfast choices than other hotels-most likely because of covid policies which is totally understandable, (cereal, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, pastries, juice, waffles) but it was really good and I was full Everything was clean, staff were nice, there was one of those little stores up front with snacks, drinks, and necessities I would come here again You can’t beat the price

Pang Lee

Definitely not impressed with the service! We checked into a place with sand on the bed I was told they were not sand, and the blanket was just old The housekeeper was called to change out the blanket

Instead of knocking on the door, the housekeeper, Barbara, barged in and screamed after she saw my dog and closed the door I immediately closed my dog inside the bathroom, assuming she was shocked to have seen my dog Then I approached Barbara Before I could apologize to her about my dog, she repeatedly informed me she was afraid of dogs I told her he was closed inside the bathroom, and she was OK to enter Instead of entering and changing the sheets, she handed me the sheets to change on my own I repeated myself again, “My dog is closed inside the bathroom Come in” She refused again but eventually walked in Throughout the whole time she changed the sheets, she made excuses they were not sand but an old blanket I had to “scoop” sand off the bed and show it to her That’s sand! She then went on that they do change after every customer and petAt check out, I informed the front desk lady of the situation She did apologized, but said, “oh, poor Barbara” But what about our stay?I understand things happened BUT I def was not impressed with Barbara barging in without a knock on when she did saw me walked in beforehand And I also was not impressed walking into a place that was not cleaned wellThis was our FIRST time staying at La Quinta and will be the LAST!

Overall, I enjoyed my 3 night stayPros: location, service and large lobby area to hangoutCons: AC turns on and off nonstop, cleanliness, breakfast (out of lots of things well before breakfast is over), fitness center (not much there), TOWELS (SO MUCH LINT)Bottom line: Will not stay here again

We stayed here for a week in January while traveling and really enjoyed ourselves The staff was super friendly and willing to assist with any of our needs They allow pets and offer weekly and monthly rates

The in room kitchenette was a fantastic amenity and we could see the ocean from our poolside room This is a vintage beach hotel not a sky high resort but that is our preference Close to restaurants and attractions, steps from the beach This is by far the best pet friendly room we have stayed in at a far better price than the rest i would recommend and stay again if we were in the area

kassie grim

The staff were excellent and very accommodating We were asked daily if we had enough clean linens, and towels The rooms were very clean! You can tell the staff there take pride in their facility

The room had great working appliances, soft beds, and the hotel pool was very clean and maintained The hotel is ocean front The boardwalk which leads to the ocean has a rinse off shower, which we appreciated since we had kids with us the hotel is also in a great location only a few minutes from all of the great local attractions, like the water park, the mall, fabulous restaurants, mini golf, and so much more!! We will definitely be back, and we highly recommend this place!

Rhyna Simmers

I want so badly to give this cute nostalgic little motel a good review…the service was amazing, we were given as many towels and ice as we needed with no complaints…and the salt water pool was in the sun and clean for the most part…but…we stayed for 2 nights We were on a budget, and we still paid $400 for two nights This place, while cute, we realized wasn’t worth that price once checked in

In the photos of our room, there was a small kitchenette so we brought eggs and bacon in a cooler to cook for breakfast and lunch BLTs…our room didn’t have a kitchenette when we got checked in Everything was dirty…the blinds, the corners of the rooms, the shelves The water in the sink smelled like straight sulfur and was gag worthy The first night we realized the shower barely trickled any water It was so hard to get sand off of us and wash our hair with the lack of pressure Our first full day, we went to relax by the pool and it REEKED of trash To a gagging point We had to leave the pool and couldn’t enjoy it all morning until the trash wasn’t taken off right before check in the next day for new guests at 2 The cleaning ladies parked their cart right on our patio…when I talked to the owner about the trash and cart, he said oh yes it’s trash pick up time and said I could just move the cart…the second day I really wanted to read my book on the porch…only to open my door and the cart be there again and one of the cleaning personnel sitting in the chair on my patioEveryone who worked here was kind and friendly, and we enjoyed the laid back environment… the price was too much for the issues that we had, and that left us leaving feeling disappointed

Recently visited The Strand on an overnight trip to Myrtle BeachMy family and I had a blast The lobby was super clean and had every facility a person could ask for

In fact, with their hot tub, swimming pool, beach front location, work out facilities, and dining amenities, it would be pretty easy to have an enjoyable vacation without leaving the property The breakfast featured scrambled eggs, sausage, awesome home fries, and great biscuits and gravy I mean they were better than my grandmas (though I’d never tell her)Our room was spacious and balcony features seating and a table for long sits with ocean view We also appreciated the waterproof bracelet keys that allowed easy access to rooms and facilities without keeping track of key cardsWe arrived a little before our room was ready but were allowed to use the parking deck and pool while our room was prepared In the meantime, desk clerk James was professional and had such a cheerful and jovial energy that it felt more like interacting with an old friendWe had a slight problem with our room that hotel manager Chris Styles also fixed in record speed, leaving us beyond satisfied with our stayOn my next trip to Myrtle Beach, The Strand will most definitely be my first choice The accommodations, the amenities, and superb staff all give the hotel resort incredible value for the money

Sophia Amaker

Great value for the price Rooms are clean and efficient, although bathrooms could use a little updating I have stayed at The Strand 3 times and breakfast is always nice compared to other hotels/resorts that I’ve visited

Although I wish there was an indoor pool, the outdoor pool is always clean and the hot tub is nice as well Overall, the staff are really friendly Front desk can be a little more welcoming but they aren’t rude so it’s not a big deal Last, but not least, the location is great as it’s only about a mile from Broadway at the Beach I would definitely stay there again

Marion Hartridge

I had such a marvelous time The room was fantastic and the service was great I had a balcony on the beach front view

Oh my God to see the waves each morning and walk on the beach was such a beautiful experience They gave a restaurant in the lobby The burgers were awesome and the homemade potato chips were unbelievable delicious I can not remember the waitress or the cook’s name but they were so kind and friendly They made you feel do welcome and at home Thanks to you both for your kind hearts and delicious food And let me not forget the awesome breakfast Fantastic and filling

We checked in on December 31 for a one night stay The bed was comfy and the room was mostly clean There were some stains on the carpet near the door, and what looked like a previous occupants makeup on the ceramic in the bathroom

The rest of the room was very clean Why I am giving three stars is because at 8:30 this morning, a cleaning employee tried to barge in my room Thank goodness I put the metal latch over the door The loud abrupt noise was so jarring that I could not go back to sleep Checkout was at 11:am and at 9:00 my key card no longer worked for the door I brought this up to the attendee at the front desk during check out and she asked for my room number and said “wow” and then said everything was in order and to have a good day Overall the experience was okay and I would stay again but I would recommend putting the do not disturb sign on the door

Michele Stohon

Had a king room on the third floor Spacious and clean Bed was super comfortable! Air conditioner unit worked great, kept the room a tad bit chilly as we like it

Breakfast was good, typical hotel Breakfastmore importantly the coffee was very good! All staff we encountered were friendly and professional Would definitely stay here again

Sara A

My first room had a very musty smell and you could see mold growing on the AC Second room was less must, only tiny bits of dust and mold on AC, but still just skipped using it Fridge made horrible noise all the time

And the KICKER was all the BUG BITES I came home with after two nights Bed bugs? Fleas?I’d give this place 0 stars if I could Maybe 5 because the sheets were surprisingly soft for such a disgusting place

Staff is friendly from check-in to check-out Hotel is clean and inviting Room is clean, sanitized and comfortable

All staff met in between our visit were friendly and quick to help with any questions Pool is clean and plenty of complimentary towels to assist in your comfort The breakfast was the cherry on top of the great stay, we did not want to leave! Thank you so much for a great stay, we will be back soon!

CC Lashay

This property was OK for me and my family It is located very close to Broadway on the beach where you can literally walk to everythingHowever, some of the rooms are a little dated

Our room wasn’t very clean it had a few crumbs on the floor but we did not complain because we understand that there is a shortage in housekeeping Also, our tub had rust around the ridges The doors were not painted all the way Basically, it looked like a quick paint job A remodel that went way too fast **See pictures belowThere is a full hot breakfast, but don’t expect to get bacon if you are staying on the weekends There were pork sausage, turkey sausage, and pork sausage gravy with scrambled eggs and pancakes of course The first time I ever stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and didn’t receive baconOh well, wouldn’t wanna stay again on the weekends and definitely would not pay the price we paid for one night The price is about $200 plus a night and you are not getting a $200 plus a night experienceOverall, the stay was pretty pleasant, but it’s not a whole lot to do at the motel the pool is outdoors We did not access it during our stay It didn’t look very clean

Wendy Wright

While traveling often for work, I have found this hotel to be one of the best I have stayed at in South Carolina The staff is very friendly and helpful from the time I walked in the door Every place in the hotel was immaculately clean! The rooms are well stocked and the bed was very comfortable

Breakfast was hot and fresh I will definitely return every time I’m in the area!

Rooms were super clean!! Loved that!! Right across the street from broadway at the beach and down the street from the Hollywood wax museum and helicopter rides Restaurant was great, chicken wings on point! There are renovations going on outside but no biggie, the inside of hotel was exceptionally clean which I appreciated, however I did see a small brown bug in the bathroom one morning, immediately killed it, and was on the lookout the rest of the trip (hence the 4 star rating) front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful Outdoor pool was great and clean as well

Would definitely stay here again, hopefully we won’t see any bugs during our next stay!

Jordan Mitchell

Here for a wedding weekend trip, so not a long stay This hotel was good but not great Exterior renovations going on and there’s no mention of this on the website or in an email when you book a stay

I’ll start with the good: rooms were very clean and spacious with a sofa couch Bathroom small but clean as well Definitely up to Marriott standards I wish the AC worked a bit better but overall, the room was greatTo the not-so-good: First is the price I should’ve just paid a little bit more & stayed oceanfront The on-site Starbucks tasted nothing like a regular Starbucks but charged the same price As a Marriott Bonvoy cardholder I stayed in NYC a week ago & they got me in a room at 8:30 am on my check in date Showed up here around 2pm & was told our room wasn’t ready yet Check in supposedly at 3 pm so not a huge deal, but stuff like that gets you 5 stars in my book It was a good place to stay for a couple of nights but I wouldn’t want to spend an actual vacation at this location

Coralita

My hubby booked through Marriott Bonvoy for a 2night stay We were definitely surprised to see the renovations and limited parking I was not pleased with no mention of it so I asked to see the room first and glad I did! The rooms are not worth premium price, the elevator was broken, and the pool looked dirty and small

We quickly cancelled our reservation and found a much better ocean front Resort for roughly the same price! We did try to stay with Marriott but the manager said he was completely booked and didn’t even bother searching for another location Oh well there loss not mine

We absolutely LOVE staying here We have stayed here four times throughout the years and each time we are always pleasantly surprised with our room upon walking in We were soooo happy to see they got rid of the carpet and now have linoleum flooring

The bed is always super comfy and so are the pillows The other plus is they have large refrigerators The only disappointment this trip was the ice machine was not working the entire stay I hope they make that a priority in the future I also noticed as I was waiting for the elevator one of the staff was walking throughout the hallway spraying down and wiping all the door handles, elevator buttons, etc which I was impressed with You can’t beat the location either It is walkable to all the hot spots and every room has a great view I recommend this place to anyone visiting

Sean O’Brien

We arrived 30 minutes before check in to see if we could check in, and we were told there were rooms available, but we would have to pay a $25 early check-in fee to get it If a hotel wants charge for that that they’re absolutely within their right to do so, but the person helping us made it seem like if we showed up 3 minutes early it would be the same situation Most hotels we stay at would give us the room if we had arrived 30 minutes early and they had one available

When we got into the room the room had a stench like it may have been a smoking hotel at one point and they never got rid of it entirely Not the worst but definitely not idealThis may be more of an indictment on the city of Myrtle Beach, but after we went to bed the bar across the street had a bunch of bikers and street racers blaring music and revving engines well into the night Please note that we stayed on a Monday night headed into Tuesday, so definitely not a prime party day The room provided absolutely no sound protection and it came in clear as if I was standing outside of the bar (we were in the 7th floor) We basically got no sleepThe only positives I can give this place is that it did have a nice view, and it did have a good location However, I would not recommend it and I would never go back

Jeannette Dixon

The place is ideally located in the heart of the happenings Located right off of the main strip It has the best views of rides and entertainment for just a leisure stay

I want to commend the staff for being so helpful, when the start was rough on arrival The staff was sincere in the condition of the room and did their best to make accommodations for the inconvenienceI would recommend this establishment but not highly I would stay again with the best intentions and well mannerisms of the staffThe hotel needs work and when the work is done well, it can get the 5 stars for the room However, the room was not up to par for what is advertised with the rate of the room Executive Suite speaks a lot but it was to unkept to be a Suite

Hotel was clean, comfy and nice The staff was very friendly We flew in late so having a restaurant and little market on site was a huge plus

The kids enjoyed both indoor and outdoor pools and hot tub Smaller size but not crowded Our only complaint, the pool needed to be cleaned a little more but didn’t bother our kids! We would stay again

Dominique

So far so good I saw a previous post about the decorative curtains not closing Don’t be alarmed there’s black out curtains

Another post mentioned expensive snacks but I personally think the prices of the snacks are reasonable and customary It’s about convenience The location is great It’s near the beach, the mall, and too many food spots to count

In town for the Myrtle Beach marathon and decided to give this place a try Location was good located right near the mall Not close to the strip or Broadway at The Beach but not far either which is what we liked

Away from all of the hustle and bustle and wild crowds Windy at the front dusk was exceptional and very welcoming! Our room was clean and spacious and we really enjoyed our stay

The management and staff were great, appropriate discounts applied, really efficient If they oxidized the hotel and removed the terrible 🚬 smell it would have been 10 better Had to sleep with our door open from the balcony to keep fresh air circulating in

Bathroom walls had some grit or sand on them A few minor inconveniences, but we stayed there for two days If it were terrible we would have left The price was good convenient location Down stairs parking🤪🥶🤯🤒😱

Was a good budgeted vacation for us We had a good time, only stayed one night but worth it Rooms were ok for what you paid for

WATCH OUT FOR THE COFFEE MAKER Looked inside ours and it looked like it hasn’t been cleaned out in a few weeks I think the mold family had it’s own area code on that one Bathroom was cleaned pretty good The little kitchenette wasn’t too bad Really didn’t use the oven but it did work, I checked it Fridge kept everything cold Beds weren’t bad, our room was on the third floor right over the pool Had it’s own private way to get to the beach All in all wasn’t too bad There were people in the office around the clock as well It isn’t a high classed hotel but if your looking to have a budgeted family trip then i say go for it Yea there is allot of things that could be better when it comes to staying in a hotel room but it’s the memories and fun you have with your loved ones that makes it really count I love seeing my family have fun

Motel was not in the best condition First time staying here since 2008 or 2009 First thing of notice was the old musty smell

Walls and ceiling had cracks and holes Microwave was dirty The burners on the stove were not level Did not offer to change sheets in our 5 night stay Management and staff was friendly and did provide towels and wash cloths when needed Just need some upgrades and repairs Will consider staying there again if improvements are made Consider painting the interior and replacing the old carpets and have your room cleaners do a more thorough cleaning

It’s older rooms but they are nice and ocean front

we paid only 14400 for 2 nights price is good, even has a stove and full size refrigerator and of course a microwave The only thing is whatever they clean the rooms with, it smelt good when I walked in because it was fresh and clean but the smell is like it’s in the air unit so it started messing with my allergies so had to turn the air off unless it was needed but weather was great so we just opened the door plus who comes to the beach to stay in a room the whole time?? Not me overall it was a nice place to stay and staff was very friendly and GREAT BEACH ACCESS and right on the strip

My mom booked this room for us because the reviews were pretty good The lady behind the desk was very kind, but the room smell was so bad If you have allergies and asthma, steer clear! The second we walked in, it reeked of cigarettes, mildew, and mold

Both of us were coughing and wheezing and had to use my rescue inhaler Thankfully, the woman at the desk was very kind and understand and apologized for what had happened and offered us a full refund, but I’ve never been to a hotel or motel with such poor air quality I felt like I was suffocating It took me hours to breathe normally again! Again, do not stay here if you have allergies/asthma This place needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt

Marty Stogner

The room was OK; it had only the bare necessities It smelled funny (bring the febreze); but no bugs and everything worked Porch was nice with a great view, very quiet and private

Parking mostly was no problem The whole staff was very hospitable and helpful Traffic was pretty bad being Memorial Day; bike week; and limited access to ocean BLV It was great for a getaway weekend for two; but when the whole family comes with me, I want a better place

The room was clean, the ONLY issue I had was the pull out sofa wasn’t very clean, but it wasn’t nothing to dust it off The beds were comfortable The front desk lady was very nice and friendly, she allowed us to check in early

The maintenance guy was nice, as well The location was perfect, right across the street from the beach We will definitely be back to stay!

Victoria Barton

Owner is very nice! The room was really clean, it looks like it has been remodeled recently, very updated and modern The pool was also very clean, the cleaning chemicals in it was not over powering, the size of the pool is perfect for younglings and adults! The motel itself is very cute! The color scheme is really pretty I had a great time while staying here and never had any problems

Brittany W

Booked this last minute & out of the other options this place was the best one The price was unbeatable, our room was very clean as well as the pool, staff was friendly, & it’s across from the beach, only a short walk You can tell they recently renovated this motel, it’s well kept

Side note: the beds are super comfy! When adjusting the shower temp the hot water may sneak up on you, it’s pretty sensitive but hey, it’s hot water

The staff were very friendly and nice and were always helpful Lynn was very helpful in making our stay as comfortable as possible Samantha and the rest of the office staff were always there with smiles and any way they could help they did

It’s pet friendly and was a great time for our pets Even on weekends when capacity was almost full it was relaxing and not noisy and we slept well Would definitely recommend for extended stay or a couple of nights

I honestly was anxious when coming here after booking online because of the bad reviews However when we checked in everything was accurately in their system and surprised me compared to the negative reviews The room we got was nice and clean

We found no bugs (and yes we immediately checked upon arrival) My dog was allowed to stay for an affordable price Plenty of parking spaces The hotel isn’t too far from the beach and we didn’t mind the drive The only complaint I have is with the water pressure being very high in the shower Other than that, I was satisfied with my stay here

Kendra Amick

First of all, I reserved a room online, and the room I got was nothing like the website The floors were slippery and sticky, I mentioned this to 3 people shortly after I checked in, (one of the front desk girls, actually told me that it doesn’t look like the website), I was told by the GM, that they use a 3rd party for the website, I fell on the nasty floor and hurt my hip, I told one of the employees about falling @1am, and that is when the maintenance guy came and dried the floor with a towel and mop The GM said that he could only give me $50 back, I paid $280, and I heard another guest complaining about the floors, and they have known about this issue for weeks, also when I arrived, there was moisture in the light fixtures, a maintenance guy came up and dried them out, and told me there was nothing to worry about, I wish I could add the pictures that I took of the room

I will be consulting with a lawyer about my hip, because I have a big bruise on my hip and pain, and it happened because of the motels negligence I will definitely not be staying here ever again, and I will tell everyone I can, not to stay here
