Brian was very helpful when we spent 10 days at Aarons Cottage The place is outdated needs some tender care The refrigerator was rusted and the clothing dryer you needed a screw driver to operate and to open

There was no children pool, barbecue and parking was limited But nevertheless the cottage was clean and a great place to just sleep

alfred domingo

Was not impressed with the house keeping, used this place before and was treated well, but was not impressed this time common area kitchen was for guest use or was to be, employee had food in refrigerator age of food unknown and the refrigerator was dirty, I had to sweep the floors in the room and bathroom because of dirty floors, floors needed cleaning/mopping, had to wear shoes inside, which is a go no And I would get up in the middle of the night because the kitchen lights were turned on and the back door leading to the kitchen was wide open, employee would go in and cook leaving the door open when he would leave the cottage, that’s not good customer service, my family and I did not appreciate this treatment

A whole star, NO! half a star for customer service and safety is being generous

El S

Who complains about frogs??? Wow 🤯 I’m sad NOT about frogs which I loved, but about cockroaches The room was full of them, even in a sink I saw long black whiskers Bed linen and mattresses were old and grey

Floor dirty Microwave, fridge and w&d – rusty Walls – thin And Alan wasn’t helpful, he was unfriendly, distant, cold and overall inconsiderate Aside from these, everything else was ok 😐🥴

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I ever had First, they tell you at check in to leave dirty towels and trash in plastic bags out in the hallway Staff was not to go and service rooms because of their Covid protocol

How could leaving soiled laundry and trash in the hallways be any more safe than leaving it in the rooms for pickup? Our bed was never made Shampoo and soap was never replenished We had to go chase people down in the lobby to get simple supplies each day Total inconvenience and to top it off, i was expected to pay the full room rate while i was doing their job Second, the restaurant was extremely overpriced and the quality of the food was worse than a bad fast food joint The rib eye was the worst cut you could get It was dry, fatty and full of gristle The wait staff went through the motions You had to ask for everything from more water to salt and pepper Finally the only upside to our stay was they provided a water bottle and a refill station outside the lobby entrance No other refill stations were available on any of the floors so if you needed to refill your bottle, you had to go to the lobbyI’m sure this is place is better during normal times, but if they have fear over servicing their guests because of Covid, they should close the hotel until they feel safe Until then, expect less than adequate service

Troy Song

Pro:Location and view One of the best view in Hilo bay apart from Hilton besides it Near to coconut island, Japanese garden and Hilo bay

Con:Old AC is struggling to get room cooled down and it’s really loud We ended up keeping the lanai door open through our our stayThey don’t do regular house keeping…due to their Covid policy etc so expect to save your towels/daily use expendables regularly and place your trash bin outside of your room if it’s full and call front desk for anything neededOverall okish experience

Steve Smith

Good size rooms with plenty of space for four guests ,The cafe has great food and the restaurant is really good for a more up market eating experienceThere’s a great grocery store just outside the front door which has everything you need

Me and my family stay at the hotel was great The workers were friendly and helpful The service was great

The hotel was pretty clean There were activities that my family could do ex: Bike riding, paddle boarding, lei making, a hula dance, board games to play, a lounge to relax and a clean pool There was also a $10 credit per day to spend at the little store in the lobby and free coffee The hotel had a nice view overlooking the ice pond which you can swim and paddle board There were turtles that would swim next to you The only downfall is that there was no elevator we stayed on the 3rd floor Other then that our stay was great i would recommend staying there

Daniel Lum

When we arrived to SCP we were greeted with a cute motel type facility The front desk staff was very polite and informative When we arrived to the room we discovered rodent feces in the bathroom and behind the bed which seemed very fresh

We then went back to the front desk to inform them and attempt to move into another room They were very helpful and empathetic but by that point we were already put off by our experience We kindly asked for a refund which they accommodated, we then booked another hotel down the street I would not recommend this hotel Good luck out there

This place is a gemI arrived yesterday and had a reservation at a different hotel Upon arrival at the other property, I was met with alarmingly sketchy appearances, rude staff and difficulties with them accepting payment

I am so glad and lucky to have decided to look elsewhere and stumbled upon this place I love the accommodations Clean, aesthetically pleasing, I love the open natural spaces inside Huge huge bonus to the ethically minded philosophies they donate to I am in love with this place, never want to leave If you are noise sensitive, know there are bird, airplane and people noises aplenty here I did see a roach but honestly when you see how much the rooms and the hotel are integrated with the natural surroundings, you should understand you can’t be 100% free of bugs Who would want that much poison in their environment? I will return here again and againPhotos are my room, view directly outside my room and the lobby

I cannot say enough good things about Cheryl and Everell They were AWESOME! From letting us check in SUPER late, to providing a DELICIOUS breakfast everyday, and even just hanging out and chatting with us They make you feel comfortable and at home

The location is perfect to walk to downtown to go to shops and restaurants The frogs are a bit loud, but the view makes up for it You are literally right next to the water The room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable We would definitely visit again Mahalo!!!

If you are traveling to stay in the beautiful town of Hilo, I highly recommend staying at the Hilo Bay Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast! My long stay at this beautiful seafront B&B was one of the best I have ever had The location is perfect, close to the Hilo airport and just a mile or so from town This big gorgeous home is very comfortable and clean, and the very friendly owners and staff do a great job of making you feel at home

The rooms are cozy and the decor is classy I recommend staying in a room with an ocean view You fall asleep to the relaxing sound of crashing waves and get a cool breeze from the ocean, then wake up to a stunning view and the aroma of bacon cooking in the kitchen One of my favorite parts of my stay was the delicious breakfast each morning You get to sit down to a gorgeous view of Hilo Bay while you are offered coffee or a cold juice and a beautifully arranged plate of Hawaiian fruits The incredibly friendly and accommodating staff then offers you a large range of hot breakfast dishes, my ultimate favorite being the toasted coconut and macadamia nut pancakes The owners and staff are always willing to help you with anything you may need, which really gives you the feeling of being taken care of All in all, stay at the Hilo Bay Oceanfront B&B if you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing and home-like atmosphere on your next trip to Hilo

Great B&B Me and my wife stayed in November of 2016 Spent a few days on the other side of the island and a few days here

Steve was a great host, very informative (lived in Hawaii since the 70s) Breakfast was delicious An assortment of fruit, baked goods, – and fresh waffles one of the daysAt breakfast we picked his brain about good places to sight see, what to bring along, and what to avoid He also let us borrow water shoes and had snorkel gear we could use (we brought our own)Would highly recommend

Steve Mick

Extended stay, 4 nights, in August 2018 Exceptionally clean and comfortable, updated suite (wifi, cable TV) Owner was away; the staff was capable and kind

Delicious fruit and bread breakfast each morningHilo is a quiet locale, there are nice dining options available, and the people are exceptionally friendly But, this is not like the busier Kona Coast destination If you want to experience beautiful tropical scenery, like outdoor activity; and/or are looking for serenity, Hilo is a great place to visit

In Transit

LOVELY Nice

ALOHA feelingsAfter we were a little bit disappointed about a B&B in Kailua/Ohau (see seperate review about Sheffield house) we had a smooth touch down in Hilo and the world turned around in a different direction First, we have missed the right Enterprise in Hilo and took the one at the airport and that guy (Justine?) did not send me and my little daughter to the 2 miles far away other Enterprise but upgraded us to a BLUE Ford Mustang convertible! Than we have recognized a different pace and some kind of tranquility which we have missed even in Kailua/Ohau But the best is yet to come From the very first moment entering the Orchid tree we felt home, relaxed and arrived I will not mention for the x time the outstanding breakfast or the very much en detail taste Steve has put into the Koi Suite and the garden and I will not mention again the perfect balance Steve´s between giving room for your privacy and being there when his knowledge or help is needed, when he needs to be your perfect host No boy, you gotta find out on your own and I am sure you will not be dissapointed Let my have a few words about the place/geo Hilo is worth spending 3-4 days We have loved the Botanical Garden ( the one closer to Orchid tree, please try to avoid going to the other one) The rainbow falls close to Hilo downtown Kens HOP is worth going out there and, and, and

Dolphin Bay is such a hidden gem! It says very clearly on the label that it’s not a fancy luxury resort, but it has a wonderfully charming and friendly vibe Very casual – like staying with friends or family The rooms were very clean and had a surprisingly nice bathroom

About a 10 minute walk from downtown Hilo and lots of restaurants, or about a 40 minute walk to the more tourist-y parks and hotels

Michelle Soto

If I could give More Stars I would Loved the Retro Charm, Cleanliness and Hospitality of this Conveniently located gem Host

Gave Great restaurant recommendations I really liked the Facial spa Bar they gave me Has a kitchenette, I didn’t use it, because I wasn’t there long enough In the morning they had Coffee, Herbal tea and Banana Bread Will definitely stay here again

Geof Givens

We stayed here Aug 10, 2022, for 1 night, visiting friends in the area before heading to a fancy condo on the Kohala coast This hotel is an excellent choice for an affordable short-term stay in Hilo The hotel is 53 years old (and looks its age: cinderblock walls, dated style, no AC, mature landscaping), in a shady, quiet, mostly residential area on the outskirts of downtown Hilo

It was clean and well-maintained; we had a full kitchen The wifi was a little weak due to the walls, but fully functional The breakfast is modest, but perfect for Hawaii: excellent homemade banana bread, fresh papayas, and coffee/tea By far the best thing about this hotel was the staff: every single person we met was extremely friendly, charming, and helpful So if you need a modest place to stay in Hilo, a great value, with absolutely delightful staff, and you don’t need AC or a flashy, luxury beach resort, I think you will be very happy here We will certainly come again next time we’re in Hilo

We stayed here for 5 days and loved every minute of it This hotel matched the description online perfectly, the grounds are stunning, and the staff is excellent Check in took <5 minutes and that included talking with staff about where best to visit in Hilo

We stayed in a corner lanai room with panoramic ocean views Our room was quiet and any noise we heard was typical hotel noise The room was clean, nice sized, and we had no issue getting more towels and toiletries when we needed them The parking lot is directly across a quiet street (two lane road, average speed 10-15 mph) from the hotel and decently lit at night It is very easy to cross and does have some pot holes at the entrance, but there were not an issue at all We ate at the restaurant once and it was delicious with great service Prior to coming I read a lot of negative reviews on this place and after staying here for almost a week I can confidently say they were all wrong This is definitely up to the Hilton standard and such a steal for the price We can’t wait to return here and beautiful Hilo We will be telling everyone we know to come check out this hotel and Hilo- a hidden gem of the Hawaiian islands!

Chose this venue for my wedding, and it was absolutely beautiful here! The photos came out like a dream I loved staying here and it was a location close to different restaurants and not far from the downtown area The only thing I’d caution on would be that we got charged a little more than we should for the hotel stay, but I called the hotel and they helped clear it up

As for the wedding venue, it really is a beautiful location I do have to say it did take some time and persistence on my part to get certain details finalized while overseas, but the day-of, the staff were super helpful and caring, and for that we are grateful A big thank you to this hotel We will be back again

Dino Rathod

1) Only difficulty we encountered was finding the hotel on Banyan Road Hotel Sign was very difficult to see due to a very large tree casting a dark shadow, making it hard to read as well as see it during day time hours Suggest to have proper contrast of colors to make hotel name more easily seen and readable from the road

2) Hotel restaurant offered nice vegetarian breakfast and vegetarian pizza selection with wonderful service Staff with big smiles!3) Hotel location is nice secluded area with park as well Coconut Island within walking distance Hotel grounds are well maintained with nice walk pathsOverall very good hotel Congratulations to staff for offering us wonderful experience

Claudia is just a wonderful host to spend time with and we could not have appreciated her hospitality any more! Hilo is such a great down to explore (Beaches, restaurants, shops, waterfalls, etc) We prefer staying in small hotels or B & B’s as opposed to the big boxes

For the trade off in amenities you get local, personalized care Our room was spacious and clean (Bamboo Room) along with our own little patio overlooking a little pond The beach is right across the street and downtown is a 10 minute ride Claudia makes a wonderful breakfast each AM and is just a wonderful person to get to know Thanks for everything! (Andy and Kim from Boston)

Allison Vanos
