One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at!! Clean, good location and super friendly people that work there! I felt welcome from the first second I got there (thanks Bailey!) !! Right across the street is a hotel where you can walk through to get to the ocean Trolley stops right in front of the hostel! Kitchen is awesome too! Enjoyed my stay a lot and didn’t want to leave! ❤️

James Russell Lingerfelt

I had a wonderful time meeting everyone from around the world The owner and employees genuinely enjoyed having everyone there and they were very accommodating The kitchen was fully stacked with all the cooking tools you need and the employees were right there to help

Great sitting/living room area where everyone hangs out and eats while awaiting the next adventure The beach and beer/wine store was within walking distance and the grocery store and downtown was a short drive away I’ve been to a lot of hostels across the world and I’d say this was one of the best experiences I was sad to leave!

Rebecca Baggerly

I stayed in an all female doorm for 3days The room was spacious, clean and the AC was quite There are lockers for your valuables including a lock which is free of charge

The bathrooms were always clean and so is the kitchen The kitchen is truly the heart of the hostel and you are sure to meet all kinds of people there The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible The owner is an absolute delight and really has done a marvelous job at making the place feel like a home even when you’re a couple thousand miles away from your own I can’t recommend this place enough! I would choose this hostel again every time

Absolutely in love with this place Peaceful, tranquil but close enough to everything and everywhere you’d want to explore We stayed in the Red Barn, which is HUGE and so private and self-contained with everything you need including its own parking, kitchen, terrace, and lounge

It’s like a very large and very beautiful studio apartment The rest of the property is simply stunning, with breathtaking views The breakfast is some of the best on the island (especially the banana pancakes!) and the staff are so kind and helpful Boutique luxury at its best Will definitely return

Frank Walter

My partner, and friends, love this Inn The setting is spectacular, set in the middle of a coffee farm, overlooking the ocean The service from the staff was great

We really enjoyed meeting them The rooms are beautiful and the public space is charming You could easily stay on the property the whole time and have a great trip We also enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and afternoon snacks We ordered dinner in one night and ate in the dining room Was a great experience Highly recommend!

Rebecca Yount

Such an incredible stay! The inn is more beautiful in person than in pictures, and I didn’t think that was possible Hosts are very aware of current safety precautions and uphold those to the greatest extent, but there is still a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere The beautiful breakfasts, amenities, concierge guidance, and daily afternoon baked treats could not have been better

You will be so glad you booked here!

The grounds were gorgeous The staff was lovely The amenities were excellent

The bed was perfect for one of us and a little hard for the other The view of our garden from our patio was as beautiful as anything on the entire island I don’t know what’s wrong with the people who gave this place one star I think they must take negativity with them everywhere they go

Ralph Roe

Tremendous stay from the minute we arrived until we completed check-out Staff was friendly and professional and seemed to care that we were being taken care of The facility is magnificent

With the ability to use the other Hilton facilities, it opens up another opportunity to see more The two bedroom we stayed in was absolutely perfect for our stay Clean and fresh All appliances worked well and the washer/dryer is a blessing when staying a week Not sure when I will visit this site again because there are so many places still on our list, but this is definitely worth another relaxing visit About 20-25 minutes north of the Kona airport, the transit is easy So much to see within a couple hours of the Kohala Suites 1 1/2 hours to Hilo Less than an hour to Waimea and about 25 hours from Volcano National Park This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken

Lindsey Dillon

The resort itself is beautiful, staff is friendly and accommodating BUT our room was infested with roaches Like not a few an entire freaking army of them Roaches came out of the knobs on the stove, an entire family was living in the coffee pot, the bathroom had large and small roaches scurrying over the walls

I’ve stayed in many Hawaiian resorts and never seen as many roaches in the rooms as I have here Their solution was putting a few sticky traps, which did nothing

Jen Burke

We enjoyed the educational displays about Hawaiian history and culture The little shops on the first floor were so convenient! We tried the coffee and the shave ice place Rooms were fine

I booked the standard view and our rooms overlooked the tennis court and parking lot The location was nice for walking around town The little beach right outside the hotel was a good calm spot to practice our snorkel skills

Mary Perez

Location is good and easily able to walk to places to eat The coffee shop and shaved ice spot are good! The pool could be better kept and a server checking to see if anyone needed anything rather then having to go to the bar to request a drink/food The food a the grill by the pool wasn’t anything special and the drinks weren’t that great

Service was okayBiggest complaint, room only gets cleaned every 3 days Even though on the website it says daily cleaning They did not say this at check in, we had to ask why are room hadn’t been cleaned yet and that’s when we found out

Brady Timme

Way over priced for a view of the asphalt roof an parking lot Rooms were recently renovated, however it was down incredibly cheap

The bathrooms are tiny The food pricing is astronomical for what is at best, a golden corral buffet $100 for 2 to have breakfast? Come on The “free” beach chairs are a scam Kona boys beach gear only has maybe 20 chairs So if you’re not first there, you’re not getting a chair But you’ll still be charged the resort fee The parking is terrible You pay $22 a day for them to oversell the lot Multiple times we had to leave an just drive for a bit in hopes a spot was open when we got back again First night found blood on the towels Called the desk No towels were ever brought Had to go down an grab them This is an extremely expensive hotel that felt like a cheaply done motel The history in the area is amazing but there are much better hotels in the area for less The little beach access isn’t even worth it as half our visit it was filled with boats doing a regatta so you could not safely swim as they were constantly launching boats on the beach Everything about this hotel is over booking and charging an hoping the consumers don’t actually try to use all amenities they’re being charged for

Definitely!

Marcia Herrera

Where do I begin the resort is well maintained, the floral landscape, the rooms, the pool/spa area The grounds offer such invitation to relax I traveled with my 7&9 year to celebrate my 50th birthday and low and behold the answer to my prayers was “Ms

Joy” resort coordinator She was phenomenal! Each days activity offers more information on the Hawaiian culture, dance, Leis, history, the arts and crafts so much opportunity to have family fun! She shared information for local dinning, swim, etc I loved the resort but her contribution as activity coordinator MADE this trip a trip of a lifetime!

My husband and I visited Honu Kai Bed and Breakfast for 9 days It was a wonderful stay! Amy greeted us with a warm smile and an endearing personality! The room was beautiful and comfortable The breakfast was delicious every morning! I especially loved sitting on the deck and drinking Kona coffee or watching the fish in our private Koi Pond

Everything was wonderful and I can’t recommend this B and B enough!

David Paletta

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Honu Kai BnB As one turns into the driveway you enter a beautiful garden/oasis that has a peaceful serenity about it Our room was immaculate and tastefully arranged

Amy was great to interact with and very attentive to our needs Talking with the other guests at breakfast was a delight Breakfast was a pleasant start to each day The location is very convenient We highly recommend this BnB

Abhimanyu Kothari

Not just a BnB – but a Ohana Home!My wife and I stayed in Honu Kai BnB for 4 nights in Dec 2021 – 2 nights in Mahina room and 2 nights in the bungalow room Wendi and Dave are AWESOME hosts, and even though we have stayed in 20+ BnBs in the last 3 years – this was easily the BEST BnB ever! They truly treat you like family, and you feel like you are at home (just much more luxurious) Some specifics:1

Rooms – Both Mahina room and the Bungalow were great Comfortable beds, well stocked washrooms, nice towels The Mahina room also had a A/C which we used in the night The bungalow had a huge private lanai (balcony), and a big living room + kitchenette, which we also really enjoyed! Loved both rooms – but if you need more space, try to stay in the bungalow2 Breakfast – They serve a finger-licking good 3 course breakfast (see my pics) Wendi easily accommodated my vegetarian dietary restrictions, and we were typically so full that we skipped lunch most days! Breakfast was served from 730-9 AM everyday on a big family style table, and we liked the fact that we didn’t need to commit to a time in advance Just roll out of bed, and you will be treated like a king!3 Beach gear – A big highlight/convenience factor for us There are beach chairs, umbrellas, boggey board, snorkels, fins, towels, ice box etc etc which you could borrow for the day! It was like a well stocked rental shop – just free 😊 Also we were allowed to take the gear the morning of check in, and keep it until the end of the day the day we checked out, which meant we didn’t have to come back and forth4 Hosts – Wendi and Dave are OUTSTANDING CARING people, which made our stay even more special When our flight got cancelled they flexed their plans so that we had a place to stay for 2 extra nights When our friends flight got cancelled, while they didn’t have any availability, Wendi called multiple friends of hers to get them a hotel room at a friends and family rate of ~$200 something, when the market rate over NYE was around $5-6K5 Concierge services – Wendi and Dave know everything about everything on Big Island! They gave us a hand curated restaurant guide, helped us plan each of our days (even when we were not staying with them), gave us 1 page printouts of what to do where, the list goes on6 Ambience – Super well decorated place, have a nice koi fish pond and an outdoor hot tub7 Location – 8 min drive to downtown Kona, so pretty convenient Nothing is really walking, but like us I think everybody in Hawaii rents a car, so no big deal 😊All in all, a big part of why we enjoyed Big Island so much (despite a canceled flight), was because of Wendi and Dave’s hospitality If we go back to Kona again, we will ensure we stay with them only!

Nice, unexpected surprise, but the check-in process was a complete disaster Short-staffed front desk made the wait incredibly long even at off hours The staff member who finally waited on us, however, was extremely efficient

I only booked one night to be close to the airport for an early morning flight but I wish it had been a longer stay The bar area and restaurant is right on the water but not all seats have an ocean view The pool area looked great The room was updated and the bed was very comfortable I’d definitely return if I’m ever back on the island

H G

Nice older property Renovated rooms are better than average Comfortable King bed

Daily housekeeping, which is a rarity these days, was a welcome perk and kept things nice and clean The luau was fun Beautiful location on the shore, but no beach, just lava rocks Downtown has it’s seedy areas and problems If you’re coming to the big island, this is a solid choice for a decent price, but I’d recommend you skip the big island altogether Outside of the volcano, there is little draw and the smaller islands are nicer

Stephany Vargas

Great place over all! Always kept the room clean and refilled Very nice pool, but absolutely loved the ocean pool! We also loved the refillable water bottle station The sliding doors were very loud, it was a good way to wake each other up 😂 The view was definitely the best

Everything was conveniently at walking distance, like beaches, shops, and restaurants All good places They offer a lot! (Took these epic pics at the hotel)

A truly amazing resort with the most attentive and kind staff This property is one of the most stunning resorts I have been too Offering 4 different pools, 5 different restaurants, and oceanfront access you have everything you need here

Our hotel room was spacious, beautifully designed, clean, and best of all… one of the most comfy beds I’ve ever slept in! Cannot recommend this establishment more

Vivienne Doyle

My husband and I just stayed here for our honeymoon and it was everything we wanted and more! Our room was excellent and the resort itself is amazing Our room had complimentary champagne and goodies and there was a card congratulating us Everything you need/want is on the resort from activities to dining

The staff was beyond compare Literally every single person we came into contact with was helpful and extremely polite and somehow all the servers and the like remembered us by name despite seeing hundreds of people a day We also recommend getting their detoxifying mud & volcanic clay application, it was our favorite!

CD

My wife and I booked for five nights I’m a hot sleeper, and so without a cooling mattress pad, I cannot sleep well unless the bedroom is at or below 63 degrees F I was told by hotel staff that their A/C system in their rooms could provide this

But after the first night it was clear the “coolest” their system could reach was 69 degrees Even with the ceiling fan on and covered with only a sheet, I literally woke up dripping sweat It was miserableThe front desk suggested, of course, that I talk to engineering And, of course, the engineer told me – in the most disdainful manner that I have ever been spoken to by anyone – that they would have to change the systems of the entire resort in order to change mine, implying that was clearly out of the questionThe bed was also extremely soft, so much so that my back went out I asked them twice the 2nd day if they could provide a firmer mattress, which they twice refused After desperately asking a third time, they agreed but the replacement was so hard it was actually painful to sleep on, since I’m a side sleeperI also dropped off two silk shirts the morning after I arrived for their “24 hour” dry cleaning service After 34+ hours later had to call to ask why the shirts had not been returned When they were finally returned, my black shirt had visible white spots on it (soap?), some of which I rinsed out in the sink and hand-dried with the hair dryer When I got tired of that I called housekeeping and asked why my shirts were returned with spots on them I was told, dismissively, that there were no spots on them So, apparently, both my wife and I were hallucinatingAfter two nights I asked to check out early, in order to end this torture session I was told that I would have to pay a penalty fee!Keep in mind that we were paying several thousand dollars a night for this place Service this bad is simply not worth that price In fact it’s not worth any priceWe won’t be returning

XELA PROXYCARD

I stayed at Kona Sea Side Hotel for two nights The room was clean, the king bed was comfortable and the AC was cold I got the best sleep in a long time! The staff was pleasant and the location can not be beat

I really did not need a car for the two night stay There’s a great beach suitable for kids and elderly within a two minute walk I would stay here again!

Susan Daddow

The room was freshly decorated and the air conditioner worked great! The grounds are beautiful! Only three stars because there is no closet or dresser – they have a free standing unit to hang your clothes but my maxi dress/ moo moo hit the floor Also the bathroom counter is sloped so everything round kept rolling off There is a foam mattress on a platform bed in the room we stayed in that is a shin killer! The bed platform sticks out beyond the mattress so we both hit our ankles and shins! Be aware if you stay in the garden area like we did, there is no elevator so you’re hauling your luggage up and down stairs

But the biggest annoyance we had is there is no fan in the bathroom It has a great location though and the staff all had the aloha spirit!

Canli Mertz

The hotel is away from the the ocean so there is no ocean view from the second floor It has basic necessities like a small refrigerator and writing desk There are no USB ports, so bring a charger adapter

The beds are very small, possibly fulls, not queens The A/C is nice but it’s in an odd spot You can have cool air but not a dark room It does its job as a place to sleep and it has old school appeal but if you’re looking for more, look elsewhere

Just recently stayed here for my honeymoon for 11 days and 10 nights The women at the office were very nice The room was absolutely great

Stocked with everything needed and the view from the balcony was absolutely beautiful The pool and hot tub was always kept clean and being so close to Honl’s beach was awesome Its located right on the strip with all the best restaurants, bars and shopping plazas in Kona Highly recommend anyone staying here and I can’t wait to come back!!!!

JEFFERY COMER

Our trip this year was to go to Kona for our honeymoon and we ended up staying at the Kona Reef Resort in A4 Every morning we were waking nicely by the sound of crashing waves outside our patio and every evening we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset The place is located very close to town in walking distance and buy many wonderful restaurants When we come back to the island we would always request this room and of course this resort

One of the best experiences of our lives

Jeffrey Watts

I have rented my friends room a couple times and never felt so awkward in my entire life as indirectly at the pool people who work on the complex made subliminal messages making me feel uncomfortable and one of them thought they were being sneaky by questioning my children They then felt uncomfortable to even swim and my children do not ever act in a way we felt today! I love the views I love the room I rent but I felt very uncomfortable I will not take this down as no one should ever have to feel this way

We had missed our flight and needed a place to crash for a nightWe tried Airbnb, but the host wasn’t home Our cab dropped us off at a nearby resort, where the staff were rude and wanted to charge $700 for 1 night

We ended up walking 10 min with our luggage to holiday inn express The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and compared to other hotels, were reasonably priced ($300 per night) The next day, after check out, we were able to leave our luggage so we could walk around town And they even hunted down some towels so we could shower before our flightHighly recommend! The staff were wonderful

Yamina Stiet

This hotel provided exactly what was expected We stayed one night to sleep off travel fatigue before heading to a resort I got the room using Alaska Miles and check in/out was hassle free

No surprise fees Breakfast was good The pool was nice They also held our luggage after check out since we had to kill some time before we could check in at the next place Staff was super friendly and helpful My only complaint is that it was a bit noisy with a room on the ground floor next to the parking lot, but not a huge dealAlso there are cheeky little birds that hang out in the lobby that try to steal your breakfast but they are cute so it’s okay 🙂

I had a very bad experience of parkingDuring my stay in the hotel, I had the parking permit, and I kept it in my car I got a parking ticket one afternoon since they were not able to find the permit on the platform

It probably accidently fell down under seat I brought the ticket to front desk and asked how could I dispute the ticket, since I had the permit and it should be reasonable to cancel the ticket The front desk simple told me “you need call the parking service to handle it” I sent email to the parking service and called them a week later The parking service agent told me “call the hotel, tell them the ticket number, and they will take care of it” I had to call the hotel back again, and the staff was rude simply told me: “That’s your problem We don’t handle that”– PLEASE! I’m fine to pay the ticket, but could you be honest and told me at the first time “It’s not disputable, you need to pay the ticket”? That could save me a lot of time and energy! We requested house keeping twice during the stay, simply asked to replace towels and remove garbage The hotel gave us new towels, but left the used towels in the bathroom, and forgot to remove the garbageI do not recommend the hotel at all

Wonderful resort with so much to do! Wish we had more time to spend here Will definitely return Snorkeling in the lagoon was great; even with poor visibility there was still plenty of fish and turtles to see, and you can swim under the bridge out to the open ocean or access the beach directly if you prefer, or swim in one of several pools and enjoy the water slides

There’s a train and boats to get you around the property, but don’t miss the covered, curated art walk that runs the entire length, and the meandering outdoor walking paths offer plenty to discover as well Views are amazing, pools are beautiful, the dolphins are great, the scenery is breathtaking Food from the different restaurants on property was delicious but unsurprisingly overpriced Front desk staff extremely helpful Took off 1 star because there were several areas needing repairs and upkeep, the conflicts in decor and aesthetic were odd, and apparently some names of buildings had changed but not all the signs were updated with the new names, so I overheard some confusion from other guests about what was where Everything else was so amazing that it’s easy to overlook the issues Looking forward to our next visit

The resort is nice if you want to be confined to just that area It has a rail system that is not worth the wait to get where you need to go Old and slow

The rooms were so old and dated Carpets are just gross! Sandy and dirty The $60000 a night price was not worth the price The food that we had was so overpriced for something inedible They trap you in this resort, making it so far to your car you are discouraged to leave, so you are forced to pay extremely high prices to eat The grounds are well cared for and the lagoon area and swimming pool are great for family’s with children As someone who lives here, you would be better off buying a day pass to use the facilities and stay somewhere else Making it easier to enjoy local eateries and beaches It will be a much better experience and better on your wallet

The rooms were clean, pretty much standard, the birds in the atrium will wake you up every morning The food at the lagoon grill was great The luau I’d have to give it an average

The location of this resort is fantastic It’s right on the ocean It’s beautiful Overall I’d have to give it a 10 The people are great, friendly, helpful The food and items There are overpriced If you leave the resort and go into town, you’ll get food much cheaper and your items much cheaper Again overall I would go back
