I’ve definitely seen worse, but I was very unimpressed There was never anyone at the front desk When checking in and out we had to ring the bell multiple times and would still have to wait several minutes for someone to show up

The staff wasn’t rude, but certainly not friendly by any means, and they always seemed annoyed to be there Our room smelled DISGUSTING Kind of like body odor and urine The carpet felt gross and overall just skeeved us out The room was also just very outdated To be honest, the super 8 next door looked nicer than this place The complimentary breakfast in the morning was okay- just a typical hotel breakfast I would definitely not stay here again

Richard Classon

We didn’t check in because we made a mistake and thought it was pet friendly ( Google messed up and we didn’t notice )The lady at the desk was rude She took time to check booking

com ( where we made our reservation) to prove it didn’t say pet friendly Then when we said “all we want is a refund” she replied rudely ” you have to contact bookingcom”Will not be back again

Great customer service and cool on site activities Room was dirty when we arrived My little one’s hands and pants turned black after 3 minutes crawling on the floor

Had to ask to clean the floors twice Also, I have killed about 8 spiders in 2-3 nights We are on the ground floor next to the AC units Maybe they are coming through the vents? A couple traps would be nice

Brandon Fawley

Everyone that worked there was very helpful The facilities were very dated and not in good condition The blacktop everywhere on the property was in such bad shape you could not avoid the holes

The playground was wrapped in emergency tape and was not accessible There were several pieces of siding missing off our building This may have been a really nice place 10 years ago but the owners really need to make some effort to bring this place up to date before we would go back

Morgan Lee

Stayed 3 nights and I would never go back Only stayed due to the water park and although the reservation was made 2 months prior I got an email 2 days before check in tell me the water park was only open on weekends (we did not attend on a weekend) Got a phone call around 6 confirming my check in time They then proceeded to try and get me to give a firm time which I thought was odd

Checked in at 10:15pm only to find the room smelled musty and there were chunks of food in the kitchen sink I called the front desk to inform them and their response was “okay hold on” after being on hold for 10 minutes I decide to go up to the front desk and they tell me they don’t have any rooms and they can have housekeeping clean the room that night or the next morning… unexceptionable it was then 11pm I was traveling with 2 children and an infant and we wanted to sleep not wait around for housekeeping to clean If they didn’t clean the sink what else did they skip After 30 minutes of we can’t help you we have no rooms I was given an upgrade to a presidential suite Things looked good enough to go to sleep because by then it was almost midnight In the morning I noticed the comforter we were using all night was dirty It had red stains all over it almost as if someone was eating Cheetos and wiping their fingers on the blanket! There was nothing close I asked if they had a vending machine and they didn’t even have that Will never be returning and wouldn’t suggest you wasting your money and or holiday inn points There was no hot water and the dryer did not dry the clothes

Amazing hotel, I spend a night in the hotel with my wife and my 1 year old Pomeranian It is amazing because they are pet friendly Moreover, the quality of people and food is amazing

Everyone was so polite and attentive Honestly it deserves a 5 star, the only thing that could be a down side is the price, a bit pricey, however it’s worth every penny

Kathi Gosnell

Public spaces and suite were fresh and clean; others in our party stated their standard room was not as up-to-date Sounds like a progressive reno Front desk staff were welcoming, friendly, and informative Breakfast area is hosted by a treasure of a woman who makes you feel like you’re a guest in her home; going above and beyond to meet the needs of guests and make them feel valued

Would definitely stay again when we’re in the Starved Rock area

Carol Everett

The friendly staff at this Fairfield went over and above necessary when we had trouble with our reservation Gena made sure all our problems were resolved Cathy was outstanding at our full breakfast which included omlets and breakfast sandwiches

Our room was perfectly clean and comfortable We enjoyed the pool and hot tub We will definitely return You will not regret your decisionshould you choose the Fairfield in Ottawa!

Was planning on camping at Starved Rock but was turned away and told to check this place out As people have said, the owner is incredibly nice I wound up at a spot without a fire pit so he introduced me to a group at a nearby site with one

The following morning he stopped by with coffee and a pastry for me The campground itself isn’t special but I highly recommend it just because the owner is great Thanks again for everything! (I stayed there in Aug 2012 but wanted to leave a review since he was so nice and I wasn’t reviewing things back then)

Connie Petzing

This is a small privately owned campground and is nothing fancy but as other reviewers said the owner is the sweetest guy and will bend over backwards to be of assistance! We had a last minute family emergency and no other campgrounds for miles were avail so the owner here was so nice to take us in and welcome us like family! The location is close to Utica and Peru but quite and peaceful good nts sleep The best part is the campground is full hookup and only $150 wk!

My wife and I stayed in the Chippewa cabin two nights but we both wished we’d had time to stay for at least three or four The cabins are very clean and comfortable, the area is secluded, and the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful; they really do want to make sure you enjoy your stay Terisa, the owner, is incredibly organized, stays in touch and is on top of everything

What a great getaway spot!

Nancey Trandel

Exactly as promised this place is relaxing! If you need to check in with WiFi you are able to do so in the office I was offered an easy chair and got to share the space with two wonderful, friendly dogs We suggested adding some mirrors in the bedrooms and replacing the grill which had seen better days

It worked, though! We spent each evening around the fire pit and it was awesome! Despite really high temperatures the setting in the trees and a lovely breeze kept us very comfortable It was fun to see young families enjoying their stays, too, but the cabins are spaced far enough apart that we felt we had ample privacy We would recommend Kishauwau Cabins to others and we might just go back!

Moon Deb

Peaceful, quiet, clean and comfortable

exactly the type of environment to de-stress, relax and get away & disconnect Most cabins are generously spaced out on site for privacy Cabins are equipped with most everything you need so you don’t have to haul many supplies Our first visit was a winter retreat; we will definitely be back to enjoy it in the warmer months

The place has a lot of potential as other reviewers mentioned BEAUTIFUL forests and lots of threes The pool was nice too despite nobody using it

You need brain to find it No map given at the entrance Some people have the TV’s at maximum volume after 10:30 pm 20% good rv’s or campers combined and 80% garbage The water from the sinks smell so bad that I even couldn’t wash my face The only good things are: the general manager was extremely friendly and helpful and the location is amazing I understood from other people, that camping here year round is extremely cheap compare w other places, which explains the low expectations The lady who answer the phone when I called was very friendly as wet

Travis Edwards

As you first pull in, you sit in front of an old abandoned guard shack waiting for someone to come escort you in They advertise full service hookups, pretty sure those are all taken by the permanent campers there Found this campground via Good Sams, asked when I got there if I get the discount

I was told yeah and never got it Water smells like sulfur in the showers, there are no fire pits, you have to build your own Their map online is very outdated as well as their website There is no swimming pond with a beach like the map shows When you find the pond you can see what remains of the beach after it was stopped being for There is no baby/ kiddie pool as the website shows, it’s been filled in with concrete Bathrooms could use a little more attention, men’s was dirty and had 1 working light It seems like it was once a great campground that they stopped caring for as much Site also advertises WiFi, never could find it, there were no hay rack rides as the website advertises in the summer You have 1 person working the entire park and trying to run the store there

K LaViolette

Staff was very helpful but the campground is more a trailer park than a campground The grounds have potential, very green, beautiful trees But there are several dilapidated campers/trailers abandoned on the property

When you arrive there is an abandoned shack full of junk with a phone number to call Bathrooms were ok, outdated which doesn’t bother me, but definitely not cleaned regularly Several golf carts going way to fast, racing each other, loud video game music from several sites away, loud dump truck going back and forth, and all this on a dirt road We drove around and there are a couple of state park campgrounds very close and in much better conditions Won’t be staying here again

Moved here from tameling campground due to unprofessional management and way to high electricity It is the best move my husband and I ever did My husband’s a truck driver and needed to find a place open year round for our home time each month

They were not only friendly but very helpful as well Such a sweet little town Everyone waves to you They have a pool laundry and fishing its pretty quiet in the evening and love hearing the cute kiddos out playing They have 2 different play areas for the kids very family oriented Love love love this place

Hope Redfearin

My family stayed here 2 months for work in the area Full hookups, I think it was sulfur water It’s a huge campground, with tons of campers and trailers

Some long term, seasonal, and transient They have a laundry room, shower & bathroom There is a small arcade type room that we enjoyed while waiting on laundry Vending machines A security guard There’s a playground area, and a pond that we saw We didn’t get out too much, because of the snow, but we did feel comfortable here and I was happy with our stay Thank you Four Star Campground!

Everyone that worked there was friendly, great kid friendly atmosphere At check in she could have explained to us where things were located since it was our first time there, but she was busy Our room was really clean and the blankets smelled clean

The beds were a bit smaller than a queen and our fridge started to leak onto the floor, but it still workedThe pool, hot tub, slides, lazy river was so much fun and my boys had a blast I did notice the kid play area in the middle didn’t work fully, but still looked fun The arcade room is clean, fun, cheap, and has a ton of awesome games! The exercise equipment my kids enjoyed with their dad and there was a great selection and very well keptThe downfall was certainly the breakfast buffet 10$ for kids and 12$ for adults was way to expensive for regularly “free” breakfast at other hotels Overall this was a wonderful stay And we all had a blast

Alicia Williams

We stayed here while passing through We were accommodated for a single night I was told that there is typically a two night minimum but figured that this accommodation was made because it was so last minute

The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable Little details missing though (not enough coffee, toiletries) I’m sure the front desk would assist but we just made due with what we had The waterpark was cool Great for younger children Some parts of the splash pad not functioning and minerals in the water discolored parts of the splash pad All in all seemed decently clean Arcade was neat, clean and fun atmosphere We had dinner at Jack’s the service was a bit slow but the waitress was very nice Morning buffet was decent A bit overpriced for what it is but you are paying for convenience of not having to load up kids into the vehicle and go elsewhere The crowd of people is a mixture of families and adults reliving their childhoods 🙃 Security is on site The resort is very clearly understaffed but I understand that this is the off season and the current hiring crisis Every employee we came in contact with was incredibly friendly and helpful One thing I would change, when you walk into the main entrance there are smokers everywhere Cigarette butts litter the area I’m not an anti smoker but if you’re trying to attract families they don’t really want to walk through a smoke curtain to get inside Advice to owner or management would be to relocate a designated smoking section away from the main entrance and doors to the conference halls (perhaps in the far parking lot) I would come here again if passing through Definitely has the potential to be a decent place

Theresa Rollins

This place was great! I traveled with my 7yr and 1yr old and they had a blast doing everything! It was clean, food was great If you know anyone who eats GF they had great tasting options! The staff was also very helpful, this is a great place to stay with little ones, maybe not so much if you have older teens but we had a blast and so much fun! We will be back in the summer for sure Since we had little one they gave us a special offer (we did pay extra for but was worth it) we got into the pool early and got to check In early and check out a little later!

Came to stay at the Hampton Inn to enjoy some time at Starved Rock State Park Hubby is in the hotel business so we go a lot of places He came out of the hotel after checking in and first thing he said was that it was THE best check-in he’s ever had

The clerk at the desk, her name was Ashlee did a wonderful job of checking him in quick, she was very friendly and extremely helpful She gave him all kinds of local information, about the downtown area and even the State Park We definitely “caught her at her best” I would highly recommend staying here if you can’t get a spot at the Inn at Starved Rock

Vickie Alcorn

This was such a pleasant, comfortable stay! First, the nice young lady who welcomed us in at the check-in desk, Ashlei was just the sweetest person! Second, pets get a free stay! And they do take cats also! A lot of places are dog friendly! Not cat friendly!😿 Third, room very clean, and very comfortable! I love all the pillows and nice fluffy comforter on the bed! Fourth, very nice breakfast bar, with homemade oatmeal, yum! Fifth, a Cracker Barrel restaurant a short walk across the parking lot and fast food a very short drive away If you’re like us, the last thing you want to do is get back into the car to drive to a restaurant! We just ordered our food and took back to our room! Convient! Oh, and the fresh baked cookies put out was a nice touch! Nice tea and coffee made available regularly! What’s not to love!!!

Hands down, a magical place to stay! Love the history and very authentic lodge feel Staff is very friendly! Dinner was very tasty, service by Emily was attentive and friendly Great drink menu

We stayed in a cabin and loved being able to make a fire at night Only one word of caution, walls are shared, so you can hear others too well, be respectful of your neighbors Outstanding state park with so many natural beauties to explore! ❤️

Melanie Holmes

I absolutely and utterly adore this place Kudos for their docents/volunteers who lead hikes and other educational programs More kudos for their well-maintained walking paths

From eagle watching in winter to river cruise in summer, this place is an absolute gem But I don’t live close enough!! (haha)But really, a day spent here, walking and perhaps grab lunch at their pub, or a night (or weekend) here at the lodge, spells perfectionThankful for outdoor spaces such as this!!

Theresa Chenoweth

Absolutely loved our stay at the Starved Rock Lodge The décor is warm and cozy with knotty pine everywhere The warm pool and hot tub were just the thing after hitting the trails

Can’t say enough about the staff Absolutely every person from the front desk to wait staff to housekeeping and maintenance were friendly, Extremely helpful and very accommodating The grounds are lovely with artwork and carved totem Poles throughout The hot water and water pressure were a nice surprise too!! Would Highly recommend a stay here and will certainly be back
