Clean and comfortable hotel Definitely don’t expect a big and fancy place with a lot of amenitiesOverall, our stay was fantastic

The location is right by Union Square and very close walk to all the shopping The room was clean and quite, and the hotel felt safe and secure with a number pad lock on the front door

Susie C

This is a really great hotel with fabulous staff and the perfect location We had a superior king room and it was really spacious The hotel is just around the corner from union Square

The rooms have a safe and coffee maker The staff member who was working when we arrived (April 30th around 4pm) was so friendly and helpful, we really appreciated it

We 100% adored this property I love a place with a retro vibe Even though the building is “vintage”, it was clean, cute and comfortable

Beds were a dream Staff was SUPER friendly Free breakfast was awesome and way more than expected Pretty sure the almond filled croissant and coffee would have cost me $10 around the corner Location can’t be beat and is walking distance from so much My only small advice would be to have refrigerator in the room Other than that 10/10

NANCY GONZALEZ

The people that work at this hotel are all very helpful, super friendly The hotel is very clean The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to restaurant and transportation just down the street

Very close to the ocean so at night when the city is quiet you can hear the boats blow horn My family and I were very happy to stay at this hotel My kids specially enjoyed the pool and fresh cookies everyday

Kay Gee

Great hotel in a great location The rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean The hotel is on the pricey side but staff are friendly

Note that the King rooms don’t have a fridge or a kettle Also, they charge you a $50 bond per day that is (hopefully) later being released when you leave However, they don’t mention this during check in! So that can be a bit of a surprise when you check your bank account Cleaning service is only available upon request Another thing that could easily be mentioned during check in The heating unit wasn’t working and took a while to fix but staff were helpful

Ashley Asadi

Truly a magical place First time in a hostel and I was greeted with the kindest staff and amazing fellow travelers! The common area is perfect for cooking, socializing, pool, and they even have instruments for people to jam out Comfy couches to kick back and read

The rooms are clean and the location is just superb if you like being in a busy part of the city Walking distance from great restaurants, attractions, cafes, bars, etc The pub crawl was also super fun! Cannot wait to return <3

Belle La Rouge

I really liked my stay here The location is great (right next to China Town, with a lot of fun shops and restaurants) The beds and bath rooms seemed clean

The common area is spacious and has a great vibe The staff is friendly and helpful They also have some social gatherings every night so it’s easy to get to know people The mood is great as the guests are actually travellers and not homeless people (when I was in green tortoise in Seattle it seemed like a lot of the guests stayed there because they couldn’t afford to live somewhere else)The only thing is that we booked a tour to Muir woods with the hostel in order to get 10$ or so in discount But when we arrived to Muir woods we had to pay the entrance fee (15$) in addition It might not be the best to book through the hostel I guess the upside is that you get picked up right in front of the hostel

Rachael Sperling

We only stayed one night at the Green Tortoise and I wish we’d had more time to attend some of the social events The Indian food + piano bar + comedy show sounded so fun! My partner and I stayed in a private room: it was clean and a good enough size for two The shared bathrooms were clean and I never had to wait to use the restroom or shower

The free breakfast was a nice treat I recommend this spot for anyone on a budget or looking to meet other travelers!

Jenny Hansen

This is an average hotel It’s clean, quiet in room 215 or not street side but not sure if it’s loud towards street rooms This hotel is close to public transportation spots

No tent homeless people but homeless people are sprinkled throughout San Francisco I felt safe at this location Bar was not open our 4 day stay over weekend Breakfast was eggs, hash browns or diced potatoes, meat, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juice, and bagels, toast Beds are comfortable This isn’t a fancy hotel but good for price All staff very nice

Jess Mallory

I must say that our stay here was a great experience Our room was perfectly clean and comfortable We had everything we needed and the location was perfect

Josh Smith

The good:The location is amazing right on the ocean, lots of parks within walking distance and a bike path runs right past that can take you all the way to the Golden GateThe cost is very affordable especially compared to the alternatives, this was actually cheaper per night than my rent back homeFree parking

The HI in downtown does not have this and ends up being twice the cost if you have a carThe kitchen area was nice, nothing fancy thoughThe bad:I found the beds were pretty noisy wherever I moved There was also no where on the top bunk to put my phone within arm’s reach so I could set an alarm without risking walking everyone else in the room up (Fortunately others in the room woke up before me) Anything you want to charge has to be left on the floor too Other HI hostels I’ve been did not have these issueThe showers were functional enough but they weren’t amazing and I found them a bit difficult to set the water temperature on

Emma Bromfield

Terrible stay Most of the cookers in the kitchen were broken, along with 3 of the sinks and one of the female showers No breakfast as advertised

There were blood stains on the bedsheets Our room was advertised as a standard queen room which it was not, it was very small with a standard double The first room we were in had a completely see through blind sheet not blocking out any light (instead of curtains as shown in the photos) Second room had a curtain but again very small and the windows rattled It is supposed to be quiet hours after 11pm however the dorm next to us were screaming loud I had to get out of bed and ask reception twice to ask them to be quiet There was no mirror in the room which would have been handy to do make up in the room Someone said the hostel has just reopened however it seems maybe they shouldn’t be open yet if they are not ready with lots of things broken and not available as advertised

Rafael Baena

Great location in the San Francisco Bay area Very clean and the staff was very polite Unfortunately the top bunk beds have a curved bar that basically makes a hole in the middle of the mattress

There is no ladder to climb to the top of the bed so you have to monkey yourself to the top and the lockers are below the bunk bed hence very uncomfortable to reach Bathrooms were very clean

Ivanna Ricci

The good, location is pretty close from everything Like walking distance closeFull kitchen real practical and comfortable

The bad, whole place smells really bad Zero soundproof It’s quite impossible to sleep in a room with a street view There is a huge parking across the street and the alarm sounds all night They provide earplugs toughEnded out leaving two nights earlier because of this two thingsNot very comfortable bed Got a private queen with bathroom The door didn’t close good enough which provided very little privacyIf you are on a budget it’s ok… I wouldn’t come back but maybe this kinda places are just not for meI must say staff was great They even gave me my money back for the two nights I wasn’t gonna stay no

Adrien Lehman

All of us were a young group of high school seniors The hostle was ridiculously cheap, clean, comfortable, good service Fantastic location we walked across the entire San Francisco easily from there

We didn’t participate in the hostel culture, we just got private rooms and it was the same experience as a hotel but just cheaper The 3 person rooms have 1 big bed that can very easily fit 2 and a bunk on the top for 1 Free breakfast wasn’t offered but there was free tea and coffee on the first floor There is a kitchen just for cooking with a little free food from other guests

Gerald Cook

Great environment Great experience Small “quirky” room

Clean Shared kitchen space worked well Location was good Close to Moscone Center Friendly staff My room initially had an odd smell, but was fine after I opened the window and door and let it air out a bit Shared lounge area was well used by mostly respectful folks The elevator was broken One morning I helped some worried-looking young women with a rather large suitcase come down two floorsnot sure they could have done so aloneI will be back for an upcoming business trip I recommend it Good hostel

This hotel was such a great experience The hotel was clean and as promised The staff were the most kind and amenable people

I wanted to change the dates of my stay and they helped me without any concern They were also kind enough to waive off parking fees for us for staying extra days with them It was so great, I came to stay twice in the same place It’s 30 minutes away from SFO downtown(by car) and <10 minutes from SFO airport They also offer shuttle services to the airport Recommend 10/10

One of the best in terms of location and amenities! That view of the cove in the Bay combined with quality rooms and amenities gives you that much – needed breather from life’s daily hustle and bustle Definitely going back soon! Please have that elevator fixed though, good thing we were only at the 2F 😉 And I hope the lobby bar can sell coffee in the morning

Usually one of the more decently priced places in the area Right next to a police station so you don’t have to worry too much about someone breaking into your car and they have 2 small garages for guests Staff is always friendly and accommodating

We have a specific room we get every time no problem Get a room closer to the back of the building/middle by the parking lot for quietest rooms the highway near the front can get be loud for some, we prefer the back of the building Breakfast is the usual and pretty good

Sydnie

Free parking and free wi-fi! The room was extremely clean The bed was so comfy, we ended up purchasing our own set of sheets from them There were no noise disturbances at night Breakfast was 6-10am, lots of variety of food and drinks Enjoyed the complimentary tea and coffee The check out process was very easy and smooth Every staff member we encountered was respectful, helpful, and kind Will definitely return and recommend to others

Overall a pretty solid Marriott right off of the wharf in San FranStayed here for just one Day/night before flying out and had a good experienceBest thing about this Marriott is its location

The hotel is in a prime stop just three blocks off the wharf and only a few blocks away from some great restaurants/barsThe hotel as a whole is very modern and has a very cool outdoor courtyard with table games, sectionals, and gas firepits My only complaint with this is they close the courtyard at 9pm I get not having it open all night but 9pm is pretty earlyRooms are pretty basic but the beds are comfy and so are the pillowsOverall not a bad spot to stay at

Paola Cooper

Fun place to stay while visiting for a quick weekend LOCATION alone would give this hotel a 5/5 Super short walk to all the sight seeing, restaurants and entertainment

The staff was very friendly and helpful They helped me use the laundry facility after hours without a problem The flavored waters and fun treats were fun to come to after a day of sight seeing Rooms were modern and clean I would stay here again

Brittany Carranza

I stayed here for the weekend with my little sister I honestly loved this hotel The room was clean and looked nice

The bathroom had a slider door, but the shower head was really nice and at a good height above my head (I’m 5’9) The bed was comfy and the pillows fluffy The only downside to the room was that it was on the street side so you could hear some noises from the street It didn’t bother us and we fell asleep easily However the hotel gives you complimentary earplugs and face masks! There is complimentary flavored water in the lobby also which is nice They have a sitting area with games, and a laundry as wellThe valet was a little annoying, as they only have one or two people working so sometimes there is a wait to get your vehicle But there is also self parking if you don’t want to use valetLocation is amazing It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the fisherman’s wharf It’s about a 10 min walk to the cable car There’s a Walgreens across the street It’s a great locationI took a video instead of pictures but I tried to screenshot some of the video to upload They’re a little blurry

Highly recommend this hotel! The rooms are small but they are very nice and this hotel has all the amenities! It is a very pet friendly hotel with a little rooftop dog run! The swimming pool looked amazing and they have a hot tub and a huge workout facility that is bigger than some paid gyms The suites are large as well as we met someone staying in one and we checked it out We also got to check out the catering and the top floor event space

Great space for hosting events with a view of the city The hotel has valet parking and luggage storage as well The hotel is central the metro and the cable car system

Patricia Babcock

A very nice hotel Be careful of the fees and parking charges (added $200 to our one night stay) – also the pool looked nice and I wanted to stay here to be able to swim

however the pool was full of kids and every lounge chair taken with their things, every time we checked it out during our stay (even during adult only swim hours) Very clean hotel and we had a nice view of the city

This was my first time traveling solo, and my first shared room experience I stayed in the Japanese capsule room and got a wonderful roommate for a short period of time that was another solo traveler The rooms were clean and housekeeping did a fantastic job of changing out the towels everyday and straightening up

The hotel staff overall are genuinely caring and hospitable The customer service in this fun and funky place is top notchWhile the neighborhood can be perceived as sketchy, I have never felt unsafe here The security is great and I appreciate that the entrance is not available to those that don’t have keysWhen I return to San Francisco, I will not hesitate to stay here again I cannot recommend this place enough for the solo traveler, especially if you’re really into music

Bri Wallisch

Check in staff were incredibly nice Rooms were clean, bathrooms were maintained, showers were hot Beds were very comfortable

I’m not sure I’d want to walk around too late at night, the streets south of the hotel could be a bit uncomfortable if you’re not used to it, especially for women traveling alone, but the hotel itself has key card entry so nobody unsafe is getting into the building West and north of the hotel were very safe seeming After 11 the music turns off and most people were quiet by midnight Would stay here again

Very nice but older hotel The decor and vibe was definitely of a time from older San Francisco but it is still a very welcoming place Our first room was fine, king bed, little desk and chair but the bathroom was extremely small

Our knees were hitting the sink while on the toilet We asked for a room with a slightly bigger bathroom but had to give up our king for a queen bed That was fine Aside from that the room was comfortable, clean and quiet enough for a good rest The area is close to transit and restaurants in the area Takes maybe 40 minutes to get to pier 39 area Great spot a d would highly recommend

James Brosnan

The hotel is situated in a lovely and charming building, right in the centre of town, with a lot of history The customer service at the desk is top notch with nothing being too much trouble There is 24 hour tea and coffee at the reception, as well as a simple continental breakfast served on each floor with delicious pastries along with a lovely complimentary glass of wine in the evenings

The rooms are certainly not very large, but thanks to the closest there is certainly enough space While the bathroom is very small and probably not large enough to swing a cat, even with my 6’2 frame (188cm) I never found myself not having enough room Overall a very pleasant experience

Aaron Caine

Antique with charm, and great value Staff were friendly and engaged Depending on your reference, you may find it small (this isn’t a Hampton inn) – but if you prefer historic charm, you’ll find it here

Antique elevator with automatic internal gate (supervise the kids) and swinging doors, plaster and mouldings and with all the original quirks Beds were fine, pillows leave a bit to be desired Water pressure was great You won’t find AC, but ceiling fans do the job Location, value & charm can’t be beat The attached restaurant was popular, and the smell of garlic will draw you in

This hotel is a good option for times when the downtown hotels are sold out or very expensive due to conventions If you use public transportation and need to go downtown, there are some options, but if you have luggage, public transportation is not a good option here The rooms are clean and have a nice view, but some have very small refrigerators but no microwave

I travel so much that small details make a difference for me For example, I like full size hangers that you can remove from the rod because I use a garment steamer to steam suits and shirts The ones here are not regular size Also, they used to offer an option to book a room with a breakfast package; this option is no longer offered There’s a restaurant on site, but unrelated to the hotel There are no fast food options or convenience stores nearby There’s a gas station and a pharmacy nearby and that’s it I only book this hotel as a last resort to a lack of availability for downtown hotels

Completely loved the room, view and cleanliness Most definitely would stay here again Alex at the front desk was my favorite! He was kind and calm and cared

A mini crush for Alex just being a good human who was trying to help They have an area you can get food and drinks and snacks that closes around 1000 or 1100ish so be prepared The only reason it got 4 stars is because is was a small room for the price, but absolutely loved the room and the parking situation was confusing to me But most definitely worth staying at this location to get to anything else you need

This hotel was great The room though small was very clean and comfortable The style minimal but pleasing and the bed was very very comfy

The staff, especially Susan the front desk manager, went out of her way to assist us with our needs I cant say enough good things about her and all the staff were friendly and accomodatingThe location is perfect for walking to many of the areas we wanted to visit I recommend this hotel!

Good location, but service was poor; the attendant downstairs was always wearing airpods while talking to us (which I find incredibly rude towards your customers), and seemed very boredThe rooms are very small The bathroom door is a sliding door, and very loud

It also doesn’t properly close (it kept sliding back) Cleanliness was decentBreakfast was definitely one of the better ones during our trip!

We loved it here! The location is super convenient Cable car stations are just around the corner and BART, Muni and rental car dealers are within a short walk There’s also a great Irish Pub in the same building as the hotel that has excellent food and friendly service as well as a Walgreens around the corner that has a wide selection of things to make your stay comfortable

The hotel staff was amazing They were really helpful and friendly The building is well kept and the rooms are nice – especially considering the age of the building The attendant that takes care of the morning breakfast area did a great job of keeping things clean and stocked In fact, he was always busy any time I went to the room and would ask me if I needed any helpWe will definitely be staying here on our next trip!
