After a two-hour search for a last-minute Charleston area hotel room, I snagged the last available room at Microtel As I was traveling in the next day, I wanted my Mom to be able to check in ahead of me Kelly called me right away to help me make arrangements for this to happen as my Mom did not have my credit card to produce upon check-in

Kelly was SUPER helpful, a true pleasure to deal with When I checked in the next evening, I met Michelle, who was also a pleasure to encounter after a long day of travel and dealing with a family medical emergency The overnight lady, whose name I wish I had gotten, helped me reserve the room one more night so my Mom could leave the hospital and shower/rest/reset This lady helped ease my heart and mind over what has been some devastating news concerning my sick family member Honestly, the room was clean and comfy The location was perfect Traveling alone, I felt safe But the truth is, the accommodations could have been sub-par, and the ladies, who work there would have made up for it The staff were all so helpful and pleasant, the rest almost didn’t matter at all ❤️

Rhys

Very clean and comfortable! But what was exceptionally impressive was the receptionist! There was a small room mixup in the system that lead to some minor confusion, but Michele was an absolute angel Went above and beyond to make things right, even personally checking the room herself before handing over the keys to be sure everything was in order Will definitely be returning here for future trips!

They have bed bugs! DO NOT STAY HERE! We stayed here last weekend for a soccer tournament and came back with bites all over us Just read the most recent reviewsAlso the African American lady at the front desk was incredibly RUDE

We walked in and she was on a personal phone call we had to wait for her to finish for her acknowledge us When she asked for our debit card and ID we tried to explain to her that we had already paid and her words verbatim were “that ain’t got nothin to do with me, I still need your card”This was the biggest waste of money, I would never ever recommend this hotel Rooms were mediocre, breakfast was terrible The cereal was stale and there was maybe 3 options Yogurt, waffles and stale cereal Just an overall terrible experience

A great place to stay! Super easy to get to, it’s right off the interstate and within walking distance to a few restaurants, which is really nice after driving all day The staff was so kind! They really went above and beyond when I couldn’t find my wedding ring The 2 ladies cleaning the rooms stopped what they were doing to help me dig through the room

They were so diligent and confident that we would find my ring And we did!! Thank you ladies, you will always be remembered ❤️ May God bless you greatly

Excellent hotel We only stayed one night, but loved the room layout of the suite and the grounds were very pretty Nice staff

Great breakfast Also loved the self checkout snack items area And pet friendly on top of it Could easily stay several days at this hotel very comfortably with the size of the kitchen and space of the rooms and available amenities

Robert McWhirter II

We had a short weekend stay here I was checked in by Cindy, who was knowledgeable on the hotel amenities The breakfast was okay

Charlotte did her best to serve everything the best she could They should have more then one attendant on the weekends The breakfast was a “full” breakfast but was satisfying nonetheless The 2 bedroom suite came with 2 bathrooms, which we loved We’d definitely stay here again

Ashley Garcia

We stayed here overnight passing through, it is well into the town and away from the highway The parking lot was well lit and we asked for our room to face the parking lot The front desk staff was kind enough to accommodate us

The room was clean and included a coffee maker, fridge, kitchen, pots, pans, plates, cups, utensils, etc It was quiet and in the morning there was breakfast and we were able to take coffee for on the go The internet could be a little better and the furniture (TV) a little updated, but overall we had a good night Additionally, it is pet friendly

EVERY room is pet friendly I did not know this when booking over the phone First room smelled of smoke and dog

That’s when I found out all rooms were pet friendly They were good enough to get us a different room which wasn’t as bad The booking agent also told us the room had double beds that were much bigger than fulls when in actuality they are exactly the same sizeIt is a beautiful hotel One of the nicest lobby’s I’ve been in The staff are exceptional It’s very clean It just smells in the rooms and my towel also smelled doggy Once we got the AC going that helped with the odorThe breakfast was excellent Many options and the food was goodLong and short: if you have pets or don’t mind the smell this is an excellent option

Myles Away

Our stay here was overall an enjoyable one The location is great and the staff were very friendly and helpful The parking is a little annoying because of how long the walk is from the garage

The common area is beautiful, and very clean and kept And of course, the breakfast was outstanding The rooms could use a little touch up There was chipped paint, rust, and that sort of thing Not a deal breaker We did find 3 bugs on the walls crawling around The room was suprosingly musty, and very difficult to cool off It was actually humid in there, and a little uncomfortable, but not the end of the world Turning down the thermostat did very little to help We would stay here again when passing through The location was perfect for our needs and right next door to an outback steakhouse

Joe Nounou

It really comes down to the staff At the front desk, Rebekah is always good about welcoming guests, the breakfast service is fantastic and personable and in the evening I enjoy the fantastic service from Frankie and Stephanie They are exceptional in their focus on patrons, and excel in their service

I look forward to seeing them when I visit

I stay at this Holiday Inn Express two overnights a week every week The staff is always friendly, and willing to help The rooms are always clean and comfortable

I’ve eaten breakfast one time here, I’m normally gone by 5:30 am, but when I did eat breakfast it was very good Eggs, sausage and your choice of biscuits and gravy, or both if you’re really hungry

Barbara S.

Front desk and other staff were friendly, helpful, and prompt The rooms were typical in size, very clean, but a bit run down The fridge and microwave worked fine

Breakfast offered a variety of hot and cold food, and there was ample room to sit Chairs were a bit worn The staff continously refilled food items and clean the areaParking is on site and located in a safe area

Marsha Scherer

Wasn’t thrilled with this hotel Wasn’t the cleanest Several semi’s in parking lot

Breakfast the next morning we came down at 9:00 am which it was 30 until it ended but there was no eggs, no meat, gravy was all gone, staff got me a banana There were not out But several in back room No peanut butter One coffee pot was empty Staff apologized saying he was doing breakfast and front desk We are coming back thru Charleston on our way home, but staying at another hotel…

I stayed here about a week ago for a night while I was in town I requested a quiet room on the second floor and the sweet lady at the desk was very accommodating I had been in a couple hotels in the region and thatbwas the first good night’s sleep I got

Phyllis helped me so much with my breakfast on the morning She is an absolute gem, and I really hope they recognize her for hard work and outstanding customer service I was bringing food and coffee up the room for my husband and myself, and she kept offering things like to go boxes, drink holders she even put my fried apples in a coffee cup so my food didn’t get too messy You are lucky to even get a tray at other hotels, let alone have someone package up your breakfast and do it with such a cheerful personality Courtney, who was serving was also really sweet These girls got me off to a great start Thank you, Phyllis <3

Mike Edwards

Good stay, good staff, good service Breakfast line included individual servers for the eggs, sausage, Canadian back, etc (Keep track of the ticket they gave you at check-in!) Waffle maker was a little iffy

Room AC was super cold; at 77 degree-setting it was still freezing in there! But seriously, it was a good stay at a convenient spot on a long trip A little tricky to get to, but a good stop nonetheless

First of all, all of the front desk/security staff I spoke to were incredibly friendly and helpful I hope they’re paid well! However, someone should really schedule more people when there’s an event next door Having a small amount of staff for LOTS of guests is just not safe for anyone or efficient

Second, room was pretty clean and the beds were fine The TV had issues with the picture Both the bathroom door handld and toilet paper holder were very looseThird, location is great, especially if you’re there for something happening at the center nearby There’s a small mall within walking distance that offers food and your basic mall storesOverall, I would definitely stay here again, but the rooms could use a little touch-up

Don’t forget to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏᴄᴏm when booking a stay They compare hundreds of hotel sites and typically will have rooms much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This hotel is one of the best in this area

I have been coming here for a very long time If you decide to stay here you definitely won’t be disappointedWe really enjoyed our stay The TV was not working properly so they sent the engineer to our room to fix it immediately! He was the sweetest person and I just want to give a shout out to him! Please give this man a raise! Sorry did not catch his name but definitely a great employee!

Sam Frontino

Always loved the Charleston Marriott however in recent years the property (rooms) have seem to not been maintained More than half the lamps in the room had bulbs that were burnt out, wallpaper was peeling and furnishings are definitely showing their original age However this hotel maintains its convenience in downtown Charleston and is still an overall nice place to stay

Nice bar, amazing breakfast, great views and the most friendly staff

More than 5 stars! At the end of June, my fiancee and I were on our way back to NW Ohio from a quick weekend in Virginia Beach when our car died on I-64 There’s more to add as to how awful that was, but for time’s sake, I’ll get to the review We arrived at the hotel on a Sunday morning

They originally had nothing for us until possibly early afternoon Then, a few minutes later, Kelli told us she got us a room Kelli is a godsend!! The staff were great and very courteous! The hotel is very nice and clean The hallways have a clean, fresh scent The room was excellent; nice and clean There is a pool, but we never used it The continental breakfast was always warm and delicious If we ever need or want to stay in Charleston again, this will be our first choice by far Thank you for turning a bad experience into a good one!

8/9-8/11/22Mgr Kellie does a great job! The property is clean & in good shape All the staff were friendly and polite

Very impressed with this Hampton Inn Made the reservation directly with front desk, the day before and received great service Arrived the next day, the front desk receptionist was friendly and helpful

Generally speaking, when you stay at a Marriott you expect something that’s a little bit above the normal This one does not disappoint Although the last renovation was done in 2018, the physical plant is in excellent condition I looked hard and could find almost no evidence of where anywhere

The front desk staff greeted us immediately and was able to answer any questions we had As with many merits, they do do a hot breakfast and this one seems to be a pretty nice selection, with a plentiful spacious eating area to utilize They have a fair size weight room with about five pieces of equipment Elevators were quick and clean, and the room was excellent Bathroom had plenty of space to turn and move etc etc – not cramped like it can be in other hotels There’s plenty of parking on both sides of the building All in all, well worth the price and you won’t regret coming here to stay

Dawn Davis

This is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at! The staff upon check-in were so friendly and helpful The hotel itself is spotless and beautiful Our room was wonderful

Immaculate and smelled wonderfully clean Hot shower along with big comfy towels The bedding smelled clean and looked new The bed was so comfortable Would definately stay here again!

Kathy Smith

Great place to stay! The lady at check in was very nice and helpful The entire place was very clean, including our room The rooms are large and the beds are comfy! The only suggestion I would make is to have different cereal choices at breakfast and maybe scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy

A waffle maker wouldn’t hurt either That didn’t lower my score, though

A nice out of the way hotel Has a restaurant in the parking lot Check in was quick and easy

the rooms were nice and clean and beds were comfortable It was nice and quiet and got a good nights sleep The breakfast is the best one I have received yet at Choice hotels Very nice selections and variety to choose from Food and coffee was hot Will be back at this location when I am back in the area

Jake

We passed through WV on our way home from the Outer Banks The room was affordable, and we’ve had good luck with Sleep Inns in the past Thistime was no different

Front desk was welcoming and helpful They had complementary choc chip cookies, popcorn, coffee, hot choc, and hot tea available in the lobby This was great for my 4 year old Room was clean and suited our needs While I gave it a 5 out 5, some considerations: no pool, about 8 min outside the city (which wasn’t a huge deal to us), and our room at least had the sink outside of the bathroom which was a little odd and inconvenient, but not enough to be a major drawback

Tarah Carr

Very pleased as a gold member this is one of the nicest places I’ve been in a while Quick and easy check in with friendly knowledge staff Clean updated rooms

Giant continental breakfast with a large variety Coffee and tea 24/7 and complimentary popcorn 🍿 cookies 🍪 and soup 🍲 A cute pavilion for smokers by the river, and conveniently off the highway

I want to start out by saying I did not have a hotel of choice in the Charleston area being I only live about 25 hours away and never really needed the service,

until I did! My mother was in hospital very ill and I couldn’t travel that 2x a day so a hotel it what I called home for over 15 months It was such a busy time for the hotels with many events going on but they welcomed me after I explained my purpose and made allowances so I didn’t have to worry about if I had a place to stay No other hotel was able to do that! And this particular hotel stayed booked as well! From the general manager to front desk, Lori, Jamie, Darion, to all the sweet and wonderful house keeping to maintenance Just a wonder experience that helped me get through the most scary and unpleasant time I felt like a true guest and among friends and I will always use this hotel in that area and no other! My husband works for a company that has many employees that travel every where and he was so greatful for all their kindness as well and hopes to get this hotel some good business from respectable blue collar workers! I know nothing is perfect but I just do not have any negative remarks what so ever I’m not a big review person ether by leaving one or reading one but this may help someone else make a great choice We have finally made it home and everyone helped me get through and back to home! Much love to everyone!

I’ve stayed at many Hampton Inns around the USA, this by a mile was the BEST one yet! The staff was incredible, always asking if we needed anything not one employee ignored us walking by them Clean room, comfy bed, even the sofa bed my 10 yr old said was the most comfortable she’s slept in The location is convenient, we were there for a family member in the hospital

Lots of dining and shopping optionsThis will be my go to accomodations when I travel to Charleston WV

The Harrison Bunch

Clean, comfortable beds, friendly staff The bathroom needs a ventilation system though and breakfast was ok but not the best It was a nice hotel though

My only problem and it wasn’t the hotels fault But took the kids to the pool and some parents thought it was ok to bring their sick child swimming who was coughing and all stuffy The poor kid could hardly breath while swimming You could tell she was sick So if you were that parent please be considerate of others I had to pull my kids out early I was afraid they’d catch something and with Covid going around you need be safe Not the hotels fault at all I just wish others were more considerate Thank you!

Do Not Recommend! Starts off from pulling into the hotel all the lights outside are off; parking lot lights, building lights, street leading up to hotel (this was at 11 pm)

and in this area it was scary cause you couldnt see anything as mountains block all other light from other businesses Room are very dated and the whole place smells like cover up cigarette/urine smells And then at 1240 am while laying there, the fire alarms start going off only our room and then they stop and then the room above us they start going off and everyone from every room was in the halls wondering what was going on to only have “management” come and see it turned off and go back on with their night as if it was normal of it to happen All just so weird and not worth close to $200 a night DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Kimberly Sterne

This hotel was just ok We arrived late in the evening after driving over 12 hours Our room’s pull out bed was broken and didn’t pull out

There were no available rooms, so one of our kids had to try to sleep on a loveseat sized couch Not the best situation The pool closed at 10 pm, so we couldn’t swim We’re from a different time zone, so the kids were needing to get out their energy and couldn’t Half of the parking lot lights weren’t working and there were BIG potholes in the road leading to the hoteljust be aware We finally got to sleep and the fire alarm in our hallway went off two times around 12:30 am It was just a rough evening with little sleep and made the next travel day really hard Some of this was not the hotel’s fault, but it was frustrating The breakfast was good though 🙂

We were set to staying VRBO in St Albans but that place was unkempt and not secure We found this not to far from our original destination

They had a couple rooms available at the last minute The first suite they put us in had a problem with the pull out couch that only the maintenance guy could fix and he was off work They were quick to move us to another room The room was clean although a couple of the lamp shades were busted and you could see ware and tear in the elevator and elevator hall Decent night’s sleep but the free breakfast is nothing to write home about

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott on a stop through Charleston while driving from the east coast back to the Midwest The location was very convenient to the interstate, yet didn’t feel as though it was in the shadows of such a busy roadway In fact, it was nicely situated along the river, but with ample parking and easy in-and-out access

Unfortunately there weren’t a whole lot of other things within walking distance, but that wasn’t an issue for usService was friendly, but sparse as there was only one front desk staff there on a Saturday evening and Sunday morning The lobby and hallways seemed to be undergoing renovations as there were all kinds of new and old lobby furniture and wall hangings located all over the lobby, but I assumed that was temporary The bistro was also only open during evening hours, contrary to the signs in the elevator advertising breakfast No matter, as there is a brand new Starbucks located just across the parking lot, about a 30-second walk Overall if I were there for several days or having an event at the hotel, I would have been disappointed, but for personal travel it was a non-issueThe kids enjoyed the small pool (even though the water was very cold), and the receptionist was able to accommodate our adjoining room request despite some reservation discrepancies Everything felt clean, well maintained and comfortable, and that’s exactly what we needed after a long day of traveling and another long one the next day

I wanted to make sure I left a positive review, because I had a good experience and I saw that there had been some negative reviews in the past I opted to split a trip in half and chose this hotel I stayed on the top (5th) floor and had the riverside view (odd-numbered rooms) and it was nice! (Pictures below) The floor was quiet, the room was clean, and the remodeled rooms have the beds facing out from the middle of the room, so the headboard isn’t against a wall of an adjoining room

My only beef was not getting the breakfast on Sunday morning, which they don’t offer on Sundays There is a Starbucks within easy walking distance, though There’s also a big patio area riverside with lots of seating, and several jet skis and boats went by Not a bad spot!

I give one star for having a clean room Pool was closed They told me at the front desk because of the life ring being tore up but it was hanging perfectly on the wall

There’s no phone service, so the tv doesn’t have any channels And the fridge in our room isn’t working If you only need a pillow and a place to shower it’s not terrible but it is not child or infant friendly
